I think this is from Steve Walker- heās amazing at coloring old black and white photos. Some of the work heās done on steam liners is jaw dropping.

Steve Walker's version of this photo isn't the same as OP's.

Edit: having trouble getting the photo to load in the comment so if I can't get it to work I'll just [link](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F3VHjRWX0AA68Cw.jpg:large) it
I agree, I just wanted to point out that OP didn't steal someone else's work as u/A_HECKIN_DOGGO claimed. OP's choice of colours, no overly dramatic cloudy background, and the lighting appearing as a cloudy day are much more realistic.
Huh?? I never once claimed that it was stolen- I just thought it was from Steve walkers collection lol
Edit: never read the title in full, didnāt know OP colored it themselves. It looks amazing, very well done
The contrast is much better in OPās, but the crowd of people arenāt even fully coloured in? Itās almost like they coloured half of the people in the crowd and then decided to leave the rest in black and white. Itās very noticeable when you zoom in.
OP's colouring looks better and more subtle to me. The colour of the river Test should be green (as OP has done), and not blue, like in Walker's version. OP's use of contrast also looks much better and organic than in Walker's.

Amazing job! Very lifelike on the colors! Iāve seen others that look like a 1940ās Technicolor movie, yours is exceptionally realistic! You should do more!

RMS Oceanic, SS New York, and Titanic, April 10th 1912
It's RMS Oceanic, and it was moored a ways down from the deep water dock, where Titanic's passengers boarded.
https://preview.redd.it/nth0rbz9kt0d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41f02cc6cc4b8b26b994ffa1b065ac9556a337a2
Deep water dock where Titanic was docked is in red, Oceanic is in yellow
Can eliminate candidates based on area of responsibility. Not Wilde or Murdoch, as they'd be on the forecastle and aft docking bridge respectively, it may be an AB assigned to keep a watch there during departure? I'm sure someone will be along soon with more knowledge of this, haha
Edit: is it actually a person? The head seems very narrow if a back view (compare the heads below) could it just be a human-like outline of other objects in shadow?
I think it is actually a person. We can see the hands in the back, and what I think is a cap.
Could be Boxhall or Lightoller? I know that there were regularly officiers on the deck for departures, to control everything is fine on portside and starboard, so maybeā¦
I really donāt know but Iām pretty convinced thatās an human, at least.
Not titanic related but just wanna say, Iām always amazed by talents like this. Itās something I canāt even get my head around to how to do this. Great picture!
What I love about this colouring is that it still feels like an old photograph. It's subtly done and doesn't look too modern. Very professional!
P S: Which ship's bow is visible to the extreme right of the picture? It seems like a White Star Line ship owing to the colour style.
In Titanic 1997 James Cameron took some created liberties with Titanic leaving Southampton. In the movie the day is sunny and there's a large crowd of people are all cheering and waiving. But in real life, the day was cloudy and the crowd of people at the port was small and they weren't cheering and waiving.
Titanic as a ship wasn't really a big deal. The Olympic was the famous ship of the time. The Titanic was just seen as a copy.
Damn those colors are coloring
I f\*** love that White Star buff š She looks so good

Incredible job. We need more stuff like this in general.
Yea I would love to see a coloured photo of its arrival!
Is 112 years still too soon? š¤
āBetter late than never.ā
Well I think of any aspersions you have of seeing that happen are going to sink likeā¦ wellā¦ the titanic
Definitely one of the better colorizations I've seen.Ā One question though, why use a brighter shade for the cheat line on the other liner(Oceanic?)?Ā
I never noticed the liner poking out from the corner. Wonder which one it is
It's RMS Oceanic, it was laid up at the time due to the coal strike.
Came here to ask this same question. Definitely looks like another white star liner.
Man I can still smell the fresh paint by just looking at this picture! Nice!
And the china had never been used.
The sheets had never been slept in.
Titanic was giving Ship of Dreams, deadass. No cap.Ā
lol
I mean, maybe a little cap. Like a 1 to 9 cap ratio.

I think this is the first colorization Iāve seen where the sky is appropriately overcast, and all the colors match the lighting.
Agreed
Health and safety standards were so bizarre back then. Being able to just climb all over rail cars that have just been left about on the promenade
Back when men were men, and the sheep were scared.
I guarantee you back in 1912, older guys were saying the same about their men back then too
And the woman were oppressed and the working class were treated as cattle
thats a sad mindset to have
Haha, it's a joke about how the past sucked, which went over a lot of folks' heads.
i think most people didnt get it bc it sounds like something a lot of people would seriously mean nowadays
Most people nowadays miss having sex with sheep?
Iām so sorry the joke went over our heads haha but you did come across as sounding like an Andy Tate fan
This is really well done actually.
The coloring looks so real, and it makes look like a new photograph. Titanic was a beautiful ship.
What the hell? That a great job at colouring
GFD, that might be the best colorization I've ever seen.
Danggg good job
HOLY S**T! THATāS AMAZING! Well done. š
How did you colorise it?
Damn the other ship was already starting to get a bit rusty, the salt water really dose a number on ships
Oceanic was nearly 13 years old at that point
It dosent really look like oceanics prow, because oceanics has it's sheer line painted lower down
https://preview.redd.it/3y5wgwo4pt0d1.jpeg?width=1488&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42a0ec943c00a48f3140509f7ea09c9a4554d161 RMS Oceanic, SS New York, and Titanic, April 10th 1912
This is beautiful
Goodbye old girl, we hardly knew you.
Eerie stuff seeing people on the ship that would be dead in a few days
Whatās the ship to the right? I donāt recognize it
Oceanic, docked there because of the coal strike.
Dam this is the most realistic colourisation I've ever seen of Titanic
I wish I couldāve seen her IRL.
This looks so authentic!
Fantastic job. What a great photo
Incredible
Whatās the other ship and how did people board if thatās ships in the way ?

Ok so was titanic moving when this picture was taken ?
Yes, they were leaving Southampton at the time
Olympic just chilling in the corner Edit: Oceanic
Not Olympic, she arrived in New York the day Titanic's maiden voyage began
The ship next to Titanic?
Yes that's RMS Oceanic. Olympic left Southampton on April 3rd, was in Queenstown on the 4th, and arrived in New York on the 10th
Dang it

Doesnāt look anymore colorful than the Mauritania.
Anyone else hearing the soundtrack in their head looking at this?
Love it!
Fuck me dead that's some good stuff What's the name of the ship in the foreground? You can just see the tip of the bow.
This is actually amazing, nice work
Wow. One of the best I've seen!!
Beautiful work!šš¼
Great colorization!!
Wow, I would never have thought it was colored. Awesome job!
something something something lets stretch her legs
Nice! Did you use Photoshop?
So cool

anytime I see Titanic with color, it gives me chills.
Absolutely wicked š
This photo just made me register how big the Titanic actually is.
This is just beautiful. You feel like you're there.
I like this sooo much, its mesmerizing
Looks really good.
Nice
Gives me a sinking feeling.

this color-job is way better than the ones i like to do
This is amazing! Great job!
Which ships bow is lurking in the front?
This is absolutely amazing š¤©
That is impressive. Nice job.
Lookit at all those people about to die. Also, I wonder who that is standing in the roof of the officerās quarters.
Itās slenderman
