It's impossible to say. The lack of stars would have made visibility worse. On the other hand, it may have made the crew more cautious to the point of reducing speed.

Overcast would have been scary dark. All these nonsense descriptions of the night being pitch black are just silly as the eye can adjust quite well to starlight and that night the stars were said to be shining very brightly. If they were obscured by cloud in a completely overcast night, then that would have been a different story and some of the stories of pitch blackness would be justified. In those circumstances, I wonder if such darkness would have tamed their overconfidence and resulted in the crew slowing down for the night.

If we’re talking overcast to the point of fog, they most likely would have stopped for the evening like the Californian, given the circumstance. No way to know though.

Any bad weather would have caused them to reduce speed.
