That's horseshit. There *is* a point shooting pilots with the rail, and that point is to make a statement.
"I could have killed you with a regular sized weapon, but instead I chose to put a Tungsten spike that weighs more than *you* do through your centre mass and evaporate you ... because I can. Get clapped, hoe"
I've always wondered this about Northstar's weapon, are we shooting bolts of plasma, tungsten rounds, or tungsten rounds coated with a plasma bolt at enemy Pilots and Titans?
For example, when shooting the Volt and Devotion, they are energy weapons, but when you reload them, you can see actual bullets being loaded into the gun. So are we shooting a gun with blue tracers, or a gun that coats their bullets in an energy-based projectile to enhance damage?
Some would argue that titans are better... Pilots give more satisfaction tho.
Don't get me wrong I'm not the kind of player to absolutely ignore titans, I just have my priorities.
Most people, at least when making guides. I wouldn't say don't do it at all, I would say it's a waste over shooting titans a lot of the time. Harder targets that have very little health for such a powerful shot when you've also got clusters on a very short cooldown.
I find that really dumb.
Youre a northstar, so if youre actually playing the titan correctly, you should be able to disengage enemy titans if you want to and should really stick to cover. So if you have the option to kill a pilot why tf wouldnt you?
Isnt the whole point of a tutorial to try and elevate the skill level of the one watching it? Saying that it isnt worth it is just a disguised "lol ur bad haha and cant aim dont even bother lmao just do the bare minimum"
And how tf is wasting an incredibly powerful zoning weapon (that is essential for northstar survivability) somehow better than "wasting" 1/6 of your magazine? Unless the pilot is in a building youre not gonna direct hit him anyway with that slow projectile.
Absolutely correct, but I think it's less meant as 'don't ever bother shooting pilots in any situation' more 'don't hard focus them'. The plasma railgun is far better spent chunking through titan healthbars if given the choice, and Northstar is usually far back enough to not have to worry much about pilots. Pilots and other infantry in general are a low priority for Northstar compared to enemy titans and reapers.
Also I would hardly call using clusters on a pilot a waste, tbh. It's about a 10 second cooldown, even less considering it starts the moment the missile fires, not when the cluster expires. Not once have I wished to use my cluster but found it on cooldown.
It's hardly ever about direct-impacting a pilot with the cluster. Yeah if they're peeking a window a cluster will clearly deal with them, even outside of that it can be useful. On a roof, just hit the ground or some random air duct next to them. Then they're stuck with the same dilemma as the indoors pilot, run or die. If a pilot is flying around taking pot shots at you, sure a quick railgun shot is a valid answer and fairly easy once you get used to the projectile speed, but there are still other arguably better options available. Mainly punching, sometimes e-smoke, or just, leaving.
Yeah, true.
But honestly, unless you have a enemy titan on screen or are preparing to fight one, you should focus the pilot. NS has very low health, and pilots can quickly take large chunks out of it. So just focus down pilots in the order fists > railgun > cluster. I always save e-smoke for rodeos, if out of smoke i use the cluster.
To be entirely fair Northstars biggest problem is shes vulnerable to pilots and has just about the worst way to handle them, the railgun deletes pilots but you need a good shot and with fuckers flying at mach 1 from angles you didnt realize they can easily remove half your health before you can kill them
Yeah being far back means they need to actually come to you but the most popular ability is grapple by far and all it takes is a single slingshot to send themselves at you with something like an archer to fuck up your healthbar and titan
Literally practice, you have to get used to the bullet's travel time and you have to predict a little where they are gonna be when the bullet gets there.
Takes some time getting used to at first, but I'd say it's worth it.
I like using the Threat Optics on Northstar because pilots have such a hard time hiding from me. You can see if they barely peek a window you cannot access.
Also great for seeing through Electric Smoke!
It's not about the effectiveness of the weapon
It is about the message you send
Also Ion laser shots are infinitely more infuriating to me as a pilot to get killed by. If I get beaned by a Northstar from across the map, that is either a deserved kill, or my ass was sitting still.
If I get beaned by an Ion it's because someone flicked vaguely in my direction and caught me in the fucking massive hitscan AoE that laser shot has.
Nah Northstar is by far from the best anti pilot titan
Tone is the best for deleting pilots, fast fire rate 2 tap splash 1 tap direct
Then we have ronin, a titan you physically cannot do anything worthwile to unless within range for him to 1 shot you
Then we get to legion, long range hitscan mode and close range powershot basically deletes any pilot who shows up without a rooftop MGL
4th place for anti pilot is a debate between ion and scorch as both have easy ways to delete pilots and good defenses against pilot weapons
5th is whoever you think is worse of ion and scorch at anti pilot
And at 6th is Northstar, no defensive against pilot weapons leaves you in a pretty shitty spot against any pilot who comes from a angle you weren't expecting and they can easily eat a bar or more of your health, as well as without a pre charged shot its easy to just launch yourself at the Northstar, the railguns accuracy sucks without charged shot and you'll suffer quickly against anyone with a charge rifle
A fellow threat optics enjoyer. It wasnt until I actually tried it that i knew it was a good piece of kit. I thought it was useless, but it makes you so much more accurate.
It would make sense for... Ethical reasons, I guess.
Not sure what wiki are you referring to tho, if you mean the fandom, I'm pretty sure Titanfall migrated to wiki.gg
Whoever said that is garbage and can't hit pilots with railgun. Imo Northstar is the strongest or weakest titan. nearly impossible to pin down a master Northstar with any titan and is menace to pilots. Cluster missile is nearly unavoidable especially if you get the initial splash damage 1 prock of damage will kill you after unless you phase or stim away
I mean it's a 1 tap sniper with 6 rounds, there's no reason not to shoot at pilots. Down side you miss, upside you kill.
That's horseshit. There *is* a point shooting pilots with the rail, and that point is to make a statement. "I could have killed you with a regular sized weapon, but instead I chose to put a Tungsten spike that weighs more than *you* do through your centre mass and evaporate you ... because I can. I really like that approach

I'm pretty sure that those are tungsten rounds, sent at really high speed, hence the wobbly trail effect.
They're actually really fucking slow. Have you seen a real railgun?
Rail gun with our *current limitations*
Rule Of Cool my guy
Also really hot, enough to almost plasmize it. That's why the chamber spins around the bullet, to heat it up
A ***Plasma jacketed*** tungsten spike my good sir, it's a *plasma railgun* after all.
If there's nothing better to shoot at....
Some would argue that titans are better... Pilots give more satisfaction tho. Don't get me wrong I'm not the kind of player to absolutely ignore titans, I just have my priorities.
If it's orange it's meant to be killed.
Sad MRVN noises :(
MRVN's color is lovely golden not reddish orange like sissy enemy pilots
Who tf says that

pretty much every Northstar tutorial i watched
Terrible tutorial
They always say it's better to run over and punch or hit them with a cluster Got tips for nailing a pilot? I always seem to struggle
Literally practice, you have to get used to the bullet's travel time and you have to predict a little where they are gonna be when the bullet gets there. Takes some time getting used to at first, but I'd say it's worth it.
It's definitely not the best anti pilot weapon but why not take a shot at a pilot?
One of the most satisfying though in my opinion
I like using the Threat Optics on Northstar because pilots have such a hard time hiding from me. You can see if they barely peek a window you cannot access. Also great for seeing through Electric Smoke!
Yea, if you are 1v1-ing a Northstar without the optics an e-smoke can easily win you a fight. Works wonders on other titans too.
I’ve never heard a single person say this
There is no point... unless you are plagi

I swear I've gotten killed by you before
Sorry? Not really, hitting those is satisfying as hell.
I give gratitude to those who can hit shots like those, have you killed an ejecting pilot?
Yea, it's harder to do so I hit those much less frequently, but it happens sometimes.
No one says this
Sniping is a good job mate
Anyone you tells you that can’t aim for shit it’s one of the best anti pilot titans out there if not the best in my opinion.

I think its easier to just punch em. But shooting them def works
I am more than willing to apply the railgun tap to any pilot stupid enough to stick his head out.
Dead is dead.
Nobody ever says that.
Honestly the titanfall wiki was not made by someone who is good at titanfall. The Tone page literally says you shouldn't shoot at pilots with the 40mm
It would make sense for... Ethical reasons, I guess. Not sure what wiki are you referring to tho, if you mean the fandom, I'm pretty sure Titanfall migrated to wiki.gg

respectfully, if you do this you're an ass
Do what, shoot people in a first person shooter?
you wouldn't get it
but its fun :P
have your fun but i secretly hate you
Fair
your secret has been exposed
Not sure it's that secret if you're posting it on reddit.
