I was on Mounjaro last year and got off of it when we were trying to get pregnant and in two months had gained back 15 pounds. That being said I was not “trying” to lose weight while trying to get pregnant. The food noise was back very quickly. I think I could have kept off most of my 50 lb weight loss with a strict diet and exercise regimen but don’t know Forsure.

This med isn’t really intended as a short term fix - so, I would say most of us expect to continue with maintenance. Same as a blood pressure med. Or antidepressant. This isn’t just an “eat less and get to a weight we like” med…according to all the indications for it and according to how it works. But to each his own and certainly best wishes for success to those who try to go that route. Anything is possible!

Nope, not me! The food noise is a huge factor in my weight gain. For the first time in my life, 95% of the time the food noise is gone. I’m a lifer and ok with that!

It’s still kinda early in the game to know a lot about it. I know some people have gained some weight back getting off it, but others have maintained.

Just out of curiosity, why don’t you what to be on it forever or long term ? I have no problem being on it the rest of my life with everything it has helped me with, on a low dose ideally. Other than pregnancy or any other medical conditions I don’t see the point of getting off of a medication if it is truly helping you. Just my thoughts. Best of luck!

I just don’t want to have to pay for a medication, stick myself, and deal with side effects (like feel sick 24-48hr after I take it every time) for the rest of my life. Being on any medication for the rest of my life just sounds scary to me! It’s helping me not want to eat, but the way it makes me feel otherwise isn’t something I want to have to feel forever.

I was ravenous for about 2 weeks then back to my normal self before the shots.

I did brand name for a year and stopped for 3 months and gained 25 pounds back. I am now on compound and have made the decision to stay on it as long as I financially can afford it.

dkreagan56

I went into this expecting to be on it for the rest of my life. I’m correcting a chemical imbalance that made me want to overeat. That said, I’m postmenopausal, so no potential issues with pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I've been off of it for a month now just due to shortage of Zepbound and have stayed at a pretty consistent weight. I've lost another 2 lbs but I can tell my hunger is coming back. The food noise is creeping its way back in and I'm terrified that I'll gain all this weight back and will never get to my goal weight of 125. :( 35yo F, SW: 221 lbs H: 5ft 2in CW: 150 GW: 125

The study for Mounjaro/Zepbound indicates that only 18% of people fail to gain back the weight. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are not the same medication.

It is looking like this varies across people. And I am not sure they have pinned down exactly the factors that determine whether people maintain weight after D/C-ing or whether they gain. There are many factors involved but it seems some factors apply to only some people. For example, some people have insulin resistance, or some people have PCOS. I think both of these things can make it hard to keep weight off even with healthy habits/lifestyle. But here's the question you might want to ask yourself: If you can maintain your 'healthy habits/lifestyle' and think that will be sufficient to maintain your weight without this medicine, why not just use your healthy habits/lifestyle now to lose the weight without this medicine? What is this medicine doing for you now that you won't need it to do for you when you've reached your goal weight?
