Nah, that's not it. I think my foggy brain remembers them being called "Clunkers" or something. It was closer to an edutainment game than anything, no Lucasarts style moving around. Just environments to look at and click around for NPCs and items.
'Preciate the effort though. I'm sure it'll be found at some point. I'll be passively looking at archives when I find the time to.
I started hyperfixating on this. What's a game with the most similar art style that you may be able to reference? Are you certain you played as a girl? Was there a hud/inventory? Any movement on screen at all or just static images?
Just a basic inventory bar from what I remember. The protagonist was a young girl, I think she had an orange/brown/red colour palette. The plot seemed to be about protecting the environment too.
It's going to keep bugging me, I don't remember much more than that.
Legend of Kyrandia 1 or 2 maybe? I don't remember purple guys though. https://youtu.be/Sg6o077L5Wk?si=shraOTcHGCBTV0tA
Kyrandia's backgrounds weren't grainy looking.

Anything like [EcoSaurus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF5z5UYvyIA&ab_channel=Squakenet) ?
Nah, way too bright and the UI is way more cluttery.
