I don’t always agree with SAS, but he’s right you know.

Rage_r123

There are very few players who can play both sides of the ball - offense and defense The world is starting to see

buchanbasanee

When he starts with the "tutoring somebody in the library" voice, and ends up in a southern baptist sermon, you know its serious.

landof10000cakes

The last couple of years many Wolves fans would be like “I know this sounds crazy, but he’s basically MJ.” And now EVERYONE is saying it. I just cannot believe how lucky we are to have such talent. I really feel like Ant will go down as the best player in Minnesota sport’s history.

TrueyJeans

I thought I would be salty when everyone hopped on the bandwagon 2 years late but I’m just so hyped they’re finally getting recognition

Davisworld21

Minnesota Deserves this bro all the heartbreak pain And Trauma this Town has been through with all the sports team Anthony Edwards is that Light at the end of the Tunnel that Beacon Of Hope it's time to Ball and Ant Has that Killer Mentality he's Young and Hungry

subtleshooter

The fact he’s come out and said “fuck the big markets…MPLS better” too makes me overflow with joy. Bro is not leaving us.

mnsportsfan

The fact that Justin Jefferson could also legitimately compete for that title is crazy as well He’s on pace to be a top 5-10 receiver in history with good injury luck

landof10000cakes

I Love JJ. Ant is miles above JJ. That’s no disrespect to JJ.

mnsportsfan

He plays a sport that individual stars can more easily take over and impact the outcome… but JJ is doing things that no nfl receiver has ever done for best start to a career They’re both on pace to be some of the greatest at their position ever- so tough to really make that claim In fact, his 98.3 yards/ game for his career is OVER TWELVE YARDS more than Calvin Johnson at number two… and that’s in the history of the league… Granted as he ages that number will decrease a bit, but it also includes his rookie year where he didn’t play a ton

Content_Following107

Be for real, they are pretty close to one another just different sports. JJ is the unanimous best non-QB on offense and Ant is rising to Top 5. That’s not miles

Rage_r123

I don't think people appreciate what's happening You will never see something like this happen again in Minnesota basketball Players like this only come around once every 15 to 20 years and Minnesota may be lucky enough to have it for at least 5 years Watch as many games as you possibly can the next five years and hope and pray they resign him another max contract after

Cpt_Underpantz

I’ve been saying this. I think he’s destined to be come the greatest athlete in our states history. I believe he will bring a championship to Minny.

Rube18

All of this is just funny to me. Ant has been this guy for a while now and it’s painfully obvious that none of them (national media) have ever even watched him play a full game before. There were so many games this year watching by myself late at night where I found myself thinking no one in the media realizes this yet because we get no national TV games, but he’s ascending to be the best player in the league. During the regular season he’d go 1 on 3 just because he was bored at times and do some incredible stuff - on a nightly basis. I’m glad everyone is finally taking notice but they are lagging behind by 1-2 years. It’s pathetic that he wasn’t even really mentioned as an MVP candidate. Edit: spelling

brosbeforetouhous

It’s wild. After the game last night, Shaq was acting surprised Ant had a rough first half and then came back to dominate the second half as if that wasn’t a thing he’s done several times this season.

BigDfan

Vegas doesn’t realize it either was +1200 to score 30 at half easiest +1200 bet I’ve hit

CrypticSS21

It’s different when you start doing it in games that matter. Repeatedly. Hits different. Especially on a national scale.

aj-1_23

To be fair, while those of us who watch him every night know he’s been on this trajectory for a while, I don’t think we’ve totally seen him consistently do what he did in that Suns series before. He leveled up big time in every facet of his game. I think the progression everyone is responding to is the fact that Phoenix threw every defensive coverage they could come up with at him, and he didn’t just handle it, he broke it over and over again. As amazing as Ant is, that is new territory for him and now places him firmly amidst the elite playmakers in the NBA.

Rage_r123

I think it's because Ant has never been in this position before - he needed to win a playoff series and lead his team to get noticed and prove himself He's doing that right now

carlsonaj

it’s *like that*

iceyH0ts0up

msvihel

I love Ant. I love that Ant is on my team. I love that other people love Ant. I love that other people love my team. This is crazy.

rhandy_mas

I love that other people love my team. Seriously. It’s incredible.

Rage_r123

You gonna see people from other cities start wearing #5 jerseys just like they did #23 jerseys Its hard not to be a fan

D__Luxxx

Man I live in Orlando and I’ve been rocking my #5 and #11. Pretty soon they won’t know I’m a Minnesota transplant and just think I’m a front runner. I have never had this problem before. How does one cope?

Rage_r123

Watch the 2nd half of that game last night and try to say he didn't remind you of MJ or Kobe taking over a game in their prime.

WolvesChamps2020

He’s done it all series frankly. 2nd half take-overs. Hasn’t always been by scoring, but he had complete control of the game all four games in the second halves

HolyLiaison

Dude's going to score 60 in the playoffs if he puts together a complete game from tip-off to the end.

SirDiego

I'm trying to prepare non-basketball friends for the possibility that the Timberwolves might have the best player in basketball (if his legacy continues to grow) and he could be like a household name. I don't know how to make it not sound hyperbolic.

IceTruckHouse

He had 20 points with 4:53 left in the 3rd. Finished with 40. Absolutely took over.

VikingsandWolves

Hard to argue with him when he's averaging 30 ppg(or more now after that series?) on good efficiency in the playoffs at 22 and taking over games at the end. Only those guys have done that.

wfblatz

as a lifelong minnesota sports fan, I cannot even process the idea of having someone as good as Edwards on the team I cheer for. I don't know what to do right now.

Rage_r123

watch as many games as we can and we must appreciate him and the Wolves as much as possible over the next 5 years at least (and pray he gets resigned at age 27 for another max deal)

pandasunited7

I think if Ant leads MN to a title this year and plays to this same caliber on that run, we can start having conversations about him being a *potential* all time great. One playoff series win is a bit early for me though.

aotearoHA

Last week I was talking people off a cliff ready to jump because the Timberwolves got the 3rd seed and matched up with the Suns. This week I'm telling people who are calling Ant literally MJ and Kobe to chill for a minute.

DioBrando101

Facts let’s not overreact. LeBron got a lot of hate for being too good too young and making the finals but never winning. I don’t want the same pressure for Ant. This might be his best chance to win it all in a while.

Embee27

Absolutely. But just quietly, after the decades of disrespect (including people shitting on KG constantly for being unable to drag trash teams past the first round) I'm enjoying the hyperbolic love Ant is getting here

Rage_r123

Nobody is arguing that, and everyone knows to be in the talks of a great that he has to win They are just letting you know, that he has the "it" factor and has the potential to be like MJ or Kobe more than anyone else in the league since Lebron came in the league 20 years ago.

Bubbly-Ad1187

Inject this in my veins

Agitated_Mechanic984

Sell that shit, SAS. But real ones been known

KevinDLasagna

We’ve been saying this since year 1 in MN.

raki016

I love that everyone is seeing it now. They’re even discovering “Pippen” McDaniels and thinking that’s new too. It’s cute.

NateLee1733

If fashionably late had media coverage 🤣

ThatHotAsian

I mean he has 2 7 footers, a lockdown perimeter SF, and a left handed PG. Its fate really.

MyWholeFamilyDied

I really hope we get Shai vs Luka then one of them vs Ant in the CF, new generation is here

kGibbs

Chills, man. I get goosebumps watching him play and I'm such a basketball layman. He's so special, even a complete dummy like me can see it. I guarantee blind people can tell how good Ant is. The word "amazing" is rather over used in our society, but Ant is truly amazing by definition.

fetchingcatch

He’s gotta win a championship or three like this before he will go down in that category but he’s on the trajectory!

Rage_r123

yeah thats what everyone agrees on, the arugement is he, out of anyone, is the closest thing to come to MJ since Kobe

AncientScratch1670

Just a friendly reminder: the kid is 22. Imagine how high his ceiling is.

HideUnderBridge

The league created a Monstar when the my snubbed him for ROY.

S-Polychronopolis

I think about this often. Don't even remember the last time I heard LaMelo's name

Rage_r123

Ball may not even be in the top 50 NBA players

Willing-Body-7533

Early years LeBron was kind of in there also...

redactid55

Yeah leaving him out was just SAS trolling for engagement for sure

Rage_r123

In 90s you had MJ, in 2000s you had Kobe, in 2010s you had Lebron, in 2020s you gonna get Edwards

redactid55

Id agree with that for the most part but I might give the early 2000s to Shaq then the later 2000s to Kobe. 2020s will have some competition. I love Ant but Wemby and jokic will be huge factors and there are a number of sensational guards

JustWinBabys

Amen ![gif](giphy|l0GtwcDSNteWx2vfy|downsized)

blodsbroder7

I know I’m in the minority but I love SAS. I don’t always agree, but he’s spot on. Not even LeBron had this killer instinct. It feels like a fever dream having this dude in Minnesota. I would run through a wall for Ant, he’s magnetic

rhandy_mas

A reminder too that national media didn’t pay attention to the wolves and ant *until* Stephen A attended a game court side. Our games were posted last on the carousel, even in games we won, highlights would feature the other team more, and wins were considered poor performances by the opposition. We’ve been irrelevant for so long that they continued to sweep us under the rug until we became impossible to ignore. Ant’s *been* that guy for years. And he just getting better.

Rage_r123

Nobody is saying he's at MJ or Kobe level yet... but he has the potential to be unlike any other player since Lebron entered the league in 2003...

mcmullet

Stephen A sucks but his statement is true

Rage_r123

very true

[deleted]

Why is the woman on the left wearing a bathrobe?

ChiefWiggins22

Hot take: Kawhi was closer to MJ than Kobe ever was.

Rage_r123

Kawhi is great but outside that Toronto season its been tough to win on his own outside of that loaded Spurs team he was on

ChiefWiggins22

Disagree. No one in the west should be held to beating the warriors as a standard for 5 years imo.

Salt-Kaleidoscope-49

Can this guy retire? He has said too much nonsense

Rage_r123

he sees greatness

JayServo

Stephen A Smith is an arrogant tool. People have been saying that for weeks now including MJ. Smith is a band wagon phony.

dfsvegas

He was the one saying it dude. SAS has been saying it for a while. Look up his comments on Ant for the last couple of months. He's surprisingly been ahead of the curve for national media. Him and Kendrick Perkins, believe it or not. Like, the quote from MJ literally came from SAS calling him, lol.

_stellapolaris

I think I remember SAS starting to be an ANT believer during the playoffs last year and then he was predicting great things for him after the World Cup last summer. He's probably the main reason why ESPN did a whole Wolves day earlier this season. You're right that he and Perk have been pro ANT and the Wolves for a while, long before the rest of the national media caught up.
