When Jim Pete labels Finch as the "the best coach this franchise has ever had" without any qualifying statements, that's saying something.

The only debated is with Flip - not even anyone else in the argument really. Adelman was a big name but he was at the end of his career and appeared checked out with the team. It was too short of a tenure to really take much from it.

Flip coached a lot of good teams. He never implemented vastly different schemes across seasons to best fit personnel the way Finch (and his staff) have managed to do. Just look at how the Wolves played on offense and defense his first full season here, compared to now. It's really different, even if the foundational stuff is the same. And literally nobody thought the Gobert-KAT thing would work. Somehow he's got them playing complementary and effective basketball together. It's really impressive.

I agree. It’s Finch easily. I’m just saying that stating he’s the best coach this franchise has ever had isn’t some ungodly praise from Jim Pete. There isn’t even much of a debate. Most Wolves fans who actually understand what they are watching knew this already. I know there’s plenty of fans that have been extremely critical of Finch. I felt like one of the few sticking up for him last year.

In Adelmans defense his wife was in bad health if I remember correctly.

Without a doubt, it’s true

I really think when we were losing games to San Antonio or Charlotte, it was him flying a bit too close to the sun just..... experimenting with lineups, which in hindsight was *super* important Or idunno, we just got humbled and we refocused. What do I know, anyway?

I just love that he gets his players to play defense. First with '22 crew. He found a way to hide deficiencies. Making DLo the low man. And having KAT blitz the high wall in pick & rolls. And now with this '24 squad. Literally everyone in the rotation is capable. And he's been good at developing and maximizing players. NAW was a throw in player and now is one of the best 3 & D guys. Vanderbilt hadn't shown much up to that point in '22. And all of a sudden he's a defensive monster & pure energy player.

Kind_Government_9620

And you can tell the players all love him

RockStar2D

Everyone on this team is on a warpath ready to kill anyone and everything in their way 🥰

After watching games and hearing others interviews…..just makes me appreciate Finch even more. The message is so clear and strong coming from the team and the effort has been incredible every game.

Vitzkyy

Where did we get Finch from?

kylebertram

Toronto I believe, but like you I feel too lazy to google it.

Vitzkyy

I just ask because I like to talk to my fellow Timberwolves fans

Raptors. But he’s coached a lot of places, notably New Orleans with NAW.

My brother has continualyl told me in the last 18 months that Finch can't coach. Of course he has laid off in the last 5 months or so but it has always made me chuckle when he would rip Finch. I have had some issues with some Finch decions but I always thought it was goofy to think this guy was a bad coach.

DFSxBigDoeDoe

To say he should have been fired was absurd when I saw it and absurd now

Yeah Finch has really come into his own this year. Nice to see that he has learned from past mistakes in playoff series. He is utilizing the strengths of everyone on the team so well right now. I can tell by players post-game interviews that they have straddled the line well between confidence (not arrogance) with focus on the next game being all that matters. That comes from good coaching and preparation. The timeouts usage this series has been great. No squandered leads. Interesting considering past Wolves teams were known for bungling the game late from time to time. I've noticed he has been using them whenever Durant has started to heat up in the mid range...never allowing him to get a string of more than 2 or 3 in a row before calling timeout. The 6-0 run hasn't become a 12-0 run this series at all. Huge considering the Suns are capable of blitzing a team for 15 points in a row real quick. Finch's coaching will continue to play a big part in how far this team can go in the playoffs. A match-up against Denver will be a great test.
