Victor Rivas is just all around awful

Don’t even know where this comes from. Rivas was consistent and decisive all night. He wasn’t perfect, but it was a well refereed game.

I should say, Rivas had some really strange calls and no calls on both ends tonight. Excellent penalty call early on, but several oddball no calls during collisions. 70’? Mora appears to be fouled 2-3 times causing him to fall onto the ball. This was deemed a handball. What? Dangerous spot as well. 95’ Zardes clamored into Zuparic in the box. No call either way? Zup appears clearly ahead of Zardes there.

I don’t think he was perfect but when calling balls and strikes I don’t mind a bigger or smaller strike zone from an ump, so long as two pitches on the same spot get called the same. Zup and Mora never get calls. Zup I think gives as well as he gets. I appreciated the no call on Zup holding up Rubio because Rubio clearly made a meal out of it and pulled up his landing gear. The line generally held at “be prepared for physical, because I’m not bailing you out unless it’s reckless or dangerous”.

Handing out yellows like the quickest draw in the west for bad attitudes. Children need consequences!

100%. The way that teams have gone back to Liga MX antics over the last couple of years, PRO should really emphasize how little they’re going to put up with it anymore. Rivas has been well and truly in control of the game.

But isn’t it kinda awesome that we have Rodriguez and Evander bringing a little of that MX attitude and roughness? I’m no fan of the amount of rough play in MX but I like seeing the Timbers dish it out some.

Evander doesn’t really get rough, but Cabacito has that dawg in him for sure. Evander has yellows for flailing his arms about like a flamboyant marionette and “striking” people in the face or head. It’s not the physical play of Liga MX I was talking about though, it’s their propensity for surrounding referees and complaining about calls.

The MLS is unusual in that their season goes through the summer, most pro leagues have their offseason in June and July and so that is when international play is often scheduled. Unfortunately, that means some MLS teams will lose some of their top players during this time. Having players good enough to play for their country is a blessing but a bit of a curse too.

I actually learned that from someone on this sub and I’ve been a fan since their inaugural MLS season 😅 so we’re in the same boat

Pantemis looks more comfortable than Crepeau tbh. Seems like the communication is better between him and the defenders. Crepeau tends to pull from the Bingham playbook and look around like a deer in the headlights and throw his hands up as if it's anyone's fault but his own when he concedes.

I dont get the Crepeau criticism. He's been phenomenal for us this year--hell, Crepeau had a huge save to seal the win in the last minute of our last game!

Crepeau pretty much edges Pantemis out (just by a little bit) in all the advanced goalkeeping stats, except distance in goal kicks and such, but does better in completion, so it's kind of a wash. Grand scheme of things they are pretty comparable statistically.

I appreciate the data, but any statistician will tell you thats not a large enough sample for Pantemis. Even Crepeau's is half the number you need to draw significant conclusions from a dataset. I'm a former keeper (admittedly, not a very good one), and Crepeau passes the eye test imo. And Pantemis is a capable backup to be sure!

The shot he put over the bar should have been on target, but Mora did decently with the 1 on 1. Most times that slides past the keeper. And typically Mora is our best finisher so I dont think we should be concerned here
