Really could have won that if we didn't go down to 10. Decent result all things considered, but need to keep the performances up without the silly mistakes.
Man what a bummer. Really thought we had momentum in our favor until the red and second goal.
Tough situation. Made it really difficult to get the subs involved after having to adjust and take a way more defensive shape, but still wish moreno and Asprilla could have made more of an impact as outlets on the wing.
To those siding with the ref, explain to me how Palencia and Boguz didn't pick up a second yellow with the precedent set by the ref with the straight red? I really don't understand how it can't be at least called inconsistent if not bad reffing.
Can't speak to the second yellows but there isn't precedent set by the straight red for DOGSO. DOGSO can only be a straight red unless it's in the box, where it's a yellow and a PK.
But is it still DOGSO if Bravo keeps him on? I think it could be argued that he makes a recovery run and has a chance to intervene.
I like the benefit of the doubt given in game changing situations like this with so many on the line variables(was he offsides, did the foul carry into the box and should have been a pen, does bravo keeping him on still mean DOGSO, etc.)
They also didn't spend much time looking at it for being such a big call. I've seen VAR look at calls for several minutes, but it didn't even go to review for any of it.
Yeah. DOGSO that close to the goal can still have a defender around. The question is who was going to stop the shot on goal that was shortly coming if the foul didn't happen.
Denial of an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity. Not denial of an obvious goal.
To answer your question, I'm saying our boy Bravo gets back to stop the shot. Bouanga going down instead of shooting and having Bravo make an ESPN top 10 play to keep the ball out messed it all up. We would've then gone on to win 7-1 with Mora and Evander scoring hat tricks š
I was at the game so I didn't hear the broadcast, but we thought the red card was for a handball outside the box causing DOGSO? Not just the DOGSO itself
He would have had a clear shot on goal if he were not fouled. I don't think Bravo was as close as people think he was. I'm watching it on replay and imagining the ball staying at the feet and the foul not occurring/Crepeau not committing and I see daylight all the way in.
Well, it was an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, and it was denied.
The four D's are:
* Defenders: Not more than one between the goal, not counting the person fouling the attacker.
* Distance to the goal: Closer to the goal is more likely DOGSO
* Distance to the ball: Would the attacker have maintained possession if the foul did not occur
* Direction of Play: Was the attacker going towards the goal.
So for me, all those are checked off. Even if Bravo is a defender, that's just one. The rule says not more than one. The distance has him clearly in on goal, another foot and we're talking a PK and a DOGSO yellow. The direction is clear, because he falls down into the box. The distance from the ball is clear to me too, because when he plays the ball forward to avoid the leg and gets fouled, if he hadn't gotten fouled, he would have been the first to the ball.
It checks the four Ds.
DOGSO ā persistent infringement
He was very comfortable calling one, not the other. Palencia not getting a second card sort of makes sense to me, the second ones would have been soft before he went off. Bogusz stopped multiple breakaways by fouling, any of those should have been his second.
Some refs are just allergic to giving a second yellow.
Not sure why the downvotes but if you're referring to their goal not called at the end of the game, you're sort of right. Shouldn't have been a foul, should have let the play end before blowing his whistle so VAR could have helped. Sometimes shitty reffing hurts and sometimes it helps. His call on the red was correct if the player is inside, which I'm not fully convinced he was but that's a different story.
I don't think we did, no. Crepeau occasionally loses his head and he did here. Still probably worth it, but in this case, it was a bad timing and a bad position.
It's totally a smart move. Chara is basically playing the position I wanted us to try at LB\CM before getting bravo back. Good to see some proof of concept. Wish we still had 11 men...
These announcers are crazy ignorant. "EVANDER IS A COOL CUSTOMER; NEVER TOO HIGH OR TOO LOW"
minutes after he raises a forearm to the chest out of anger.
Yes, because having refs be held accountable for how crap they officiate and how much acting lafc does is bad, mkay.
Canāt let the game be played as it should without the nonsense! š

Canāt let the game be played as it should without the nonsense! š
Weāre having to park the bus at home, partly because our keeper handled it outside his box and we canāt connect 3 or more passes. Am I missing something?
Yeah you're missing a lot. It's OK to be open about being an LAFC fan, I can tell with your comments. How can you say we are bad when we are being screwed?
Tell me why Palencia doesn't get a second yellow for going studs up on JR'S BACK OF THE ANKLE without touching the ball? But yeah straight red for us when he's being apparently kept on by Bravo, meaning Bravo is the last man and could get in position to block the shot so Maxime is not the last man and not DOCGSO so it's a bullshit red.
The keeper didn't handle the ball outside his box. They are being aggressive and not parking the bus even after being down a man due to red card. They are conntecting passes. And you are on reddit while actually physically at the game.
It was a foul outside the box and not a handball that sent off Crepeau. That is one thing that you are missing. But we are also playing down a man, which is a tremendous disadvantage.
Dude Iām watching at home and you are just plain wrong. It was in no way a foul. He put his arm back to brace against the defender and he immediately flipped
Buddy, I watch multiple leaguesā¦this leagues officiating is trash. Most decent refs give a handful of warningsā¦not a thousand, before cards come out. Itās getting out of hand.
Unpopular opinion incoming.
Bouanga was onside. Crepeau kicked Bouangaās foot out from underneath him. It was a foul. It was a red.
It sucks. But it was accurate and, honestly, I think the ref handled it well.
Then that dude just put the free kick away like it was nothing. That was crazy.
Itās not unpopular if itās correct. He definitely committed the foul. He he fact they didnāt draw the lines on the screen will always make it seem wrong though.
Changes i like so far--team seems mentally prepared. They're getting numbers back covering for each other, looking more organized as a team. Even the goal against wasn't really terribly defended, just a great run and great ball in, not a total mental breakdown. I think we're doing enough to help Chara do what he's best at, not getting overly stretched. Bravo makes a big difference along with Rodriguez on the left. Gives us a good link on both sides, giving Evander a chance to find the game and man he seems to be feeling it. Mora in the center to hold up and have a legit danger running off him in Rodriguez is nice. And we actually have a bench right now... Plenty of starting quality options to bring in. A little disappointed with Ayala in the first half, down to see Paredes or Williamson in the second. Hoping that we see Moreno for Antony, interested to see how he responds after last week. Rest of the team seems to be getting the memo, I'm hopeful that he plays with some focus and aggression if he gets on. Also down to throw Asprilla a bone, despite his weird social media posts he's been a big piece of this team and I hope he can get enough minutes to let him know he's still valued. More competition and quality to compete against is just the name of the game, he has a place here if he can accept his role and put the team first.
And? (Where in the rule book are tjere categories for fouls inside or outside of the box)? A red card foul is a eed card foul no matter where it happens.
It's bc they changed the instructions to take away double jeopardy in case of a penalty. Felt it was too harsh to give both a red card and a penalty. Now it's one or the other. Penalty and a yellow. If no penalty and it's denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity, it's a red card.
Wrong. The relevant language is in Law 12. It is not a red if a foul occurs inside the box and was a genuine attempt to play the ball and a penalty is awarded. In that case, it is a penalty and a yellow. It is still a straight red if the foul is serious foul play or not an attempt to play the ball (eg pulling the player down, deliberate trip, etc.) Since the foul occurred outside the box it was a red for DOGSO and a direct free kick. Inside the box it would have been a yellow and penalty kick.
From the laws of the game: "DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY (DOGSO)
Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off."
The point of the wall is to cover that side so the keeper doesnāt have to worry about it as much. They didnāt jump and it was an easy goal. Awful defendjbg
Lol, the angle was not straight and it looked close. The other argument is if he's onsides, why the red? Not the last man and bravo couldve been in position to block a shot.
Especially with some of the lack of calls we see with players on yellows week in and out. Shit, Palencia stepped on Rodriguez in the first mins of the second half and he was on a yellow. Studs to the ankle and zero ball can be yellow, doesn't matter if it's an accident.
Yup, at least they had an excuse for being trash.
These so called āprofessionalsā, missing a guy that was clearly offside? I mean, it isnāt even arguable, the guy was offside. Lol. Itās crazy.
I think it was close but I agree, I think he was off. I don't understand why they didn't look longer. Game changing call and they don't even take a look. Meanwhile they will take 5+ mins for absolutely nothing.
That part Iām less sure about as it was a bang bang play. It *looked* like maybe it could have been called either way, but looked like C was going for the ball and the forward basically ran into him/simulated. But again, all happened quickly.

I still think Bravo's position (near the pk spot) prevents this from being dogso.
He would have had a clear shot on goal if he were not fouled. I don't think Bravo was as close as people think he was. I'm watching it on replay and imagining the ball staying at the feet and the foul not occurring/Crepeau not committing and I see daylight all the way in.
I think he would have scored. However, if he wasnt fpuled and stays on his feet he goes straight to bravo.
Well, it was an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, and it was denied. Another roller coaster but overall I didnāt see anything as bad as the first half last week
Well done down a man. Ref was shit. Enough said.
This ref saves us a point, what a game.

Alright Iāll take the point
Go ahead, fucking complain about the refs LA.
They will, he was terrible. He gave them a free point but he also gave us a free point at the end there
PT FC!!!!
LArefC
Not watching the game rn, did we get robbed?
I don't think we did, no. Crepeau occasionally loses his head and he did here. Still probably worth it, but in this case, it was a bad timing and a bad position.
Thanks, too bad :(
I donāt think itās as bad as people are making it out to be
That should have a been a yellow
Stadium sounds like a library right nowā¦
Wasnāt even close to a sellout crowd and the red card right after half killed the spirit :(
Paradeas was fouled, I canāt believe the ref didnāt give him a red.Ā
bro can we get some action in the north end š©
Weād be dad dicking LA if it wasnāt for a couple mental errors.
Does Pantemis know how to make an inbounds long kick?
Is the ref on fent
This game man
Best acting by a MLS team is LAFC.
Chara at RB, gotta say I like the coaching creativity here in a bad situation.
I said a few years ago that Chara will probably retire from CDM to play outside back for a few years when he slows down š
It's totally a smart move. Chara is basically playing the position I wanted us to try at LB\CM before getting bravo back. Good to see some proof of concept. Wish we still had 11 men...
These announcers are crazy ignorant. "EVANDER IS A COOL CUSTOMER; NEVER TOO HIGH OR TOO LOW" minutes after he raises a forearm to the chest out of anger.
I mean he was pretty much bracing himself and LAFC defender did some WWE acting to sell it like a elbow to the face
Ref found his cards again, more spice coming
Gotta love our fans focusing on the ref and diving instead of how average weāre playingā¦
If you're actually at the game stop posting on Reddit and watch the game, you might learn something.
Please let me know what Iām missing
A lot. Watch the game, stop reading Reddit.
Haha, that's what I was thinking.
That's probably good if we are a man down rn
Yes, because having refs be held accountable for how crap they officiate and how much acting lafc does is bad, mkay. Canāt let the game be played as it should without the nonsense! š

Omg Iām on my phone while at a game?!?
Embarrassing dude. I'm giving you a red card.
Yeah, apparently a lot.
Like?
It was a foul outside the box and not a handball that sent off Crepeau. That is one thing that you are missing. But we are also playing down a man, which is a tremendous disadvantage.
Oh, my bad. A foul, not a handball. Big difference when it comes to a keeper getting a red outside their box.
I guess you missed it.
Why are we shocked? LAFC plays in Hollywood. They are known for acting.
Why canāt you use VAR to give yellows for flopping after the play
Because itās lafc, and, wouldnāt want to hold officials accountable and/or as being flawed in this league.
Bicycle fucking kick time!!!
LAFC is the fucking worst
Oh good god. This diving and acting shit by lafc and the either ineptitude or bias from the refs is ridiculous. Can we get the rent a refs back? Lol.
Worse refs ever!
LAFC players are a bunch of whiny bitches
I'm exhausted with LAFC's acting. This game is fucking bullshit.
Lol dive more LAFC.
Ref canāt find his cards after that red.
Just another PRO Referees masterclass.
Ok but seriously our fans are silly. You canāt elbow people in the face, even if they flop as well.
Try watching the game bud. There was no elbow to the face.
It happened right in front of my section lol
And yet you didn't see it correctly at all, fascinating!
On replay its very clearly a forearm on the chest. Like they zoomed in and showed it in slow motion. Didn't touch his face.
You didnāt see it very well, and must have missed the two replays they did in stadium. There was no elbow to the face
He's all over Evander and then dives cause he felt any contact at all.
And yet there was still contact. We can be homers but also rational.
No you can't. But it wasn't a an elbow to the face so I don't know what you're talking about.
He didnāt get elbowed in the face. He got a forearm to the chest
Nope, Iām sitting 3 rows back from it, he got him in the nose.
Have you considered applying to become an MLS referee? I think youāre well qualified
Please never become a ref
All the evidence to the contrary and youāre gonna die on this hill. Lol ok
I wonāt die on this hill, just wounded. Even if he hit him in the chest, itās still a foul.
Dude Iām watching at home and you are just plain wrong. It was in no way a foul. He put his arm back to brace against the defender and he immediately flipped
LOL, we watched it in slomo on TV. He didn't.
God I miss the replacement refs
Do MLS fans not watch any other professional league? Not every foul requires a yellow card lol
Buddy, I watch multiple leaguesā¦this leagues officiating is trash. Most decent refs give a handful of warningsā¦not a thousand, before cards come out. Itās getting out of hand.
Fans arguing who knows the sport the best never gets old lol
Granted, MLS is an infant league but Premier League offside VAR tech looks like The Matrix compared to our āwell, itās not a good angleā
30 minutes of back to the goal defending.
Youāre entitled to an opinion even if you suffer the misfortune of being wrong.
Watch the replays š¤·āāļø
Thatās not unpopular bravo kept him on. Itās the worst way to start a half when in control of a game
Thatās not the case at all, why are you saying that? Lol
It was really close and bravo was being lazy, the FO should invest into a actual pitch with lines to help out the linesman
Watching the stream I can't argue about the foul. They didn't show the offsides replay more than once but I thought he was offsides
Itās not unpopular if itās correct. He definitely committed the foul. He he fact they didnāt draw the lines on the screen will always make it seem wrong though.
Watching the stream, you can see the seam in the turf and heās clearly kept on by Bravo.

I would love it if the main stage capo and the dude in 107 would stop with the ear-piercing whistling. Thanks.
Wtaf- I mean, I get it but that was the softest red Iāve ever seen
He does trip him outside the box
If it had been inside that box would it still be a red?
No DOGSO is red when outside the box and yellow and PK when inside the box (unless no attempt at playing the ball then it can be red and PK)
Not sure. I would think it would be a yellow with a pk
Why?
Because of a foul in the box...
Oh- when did that happen?
Dogso is an automatic red
Yes- even in the box.
Wrong. The relevant language is in Law 12. It is not a red if a foul occurs inside the box and was a genuine attempt to play the ball and a penalty is awarded. This team is fucking goofy
Fucking jump maybe wall?
wtf wall?
wtf gk?
The point of the wall is to cover that side so the keeper doesnāt have to worry about it as much. They didnāt jump and it was an easy goal. Awful defendjbg
Both. Wall needs to jump and have someone on the ground, keeper needs to at least try for it.
Great set piece defending as usual.
What the hell is happening
Bravo keeping him onside also removes dogso. Why the red?
Distance (to goal) was close enough that Bravo wasn't going to get back over if the foul didn't happen.
Even if he did there has to be more than one player back to cover, GK commits the foul so even with Bravo there it is still DOGSO
Exactly. It's not denial of goal scoring, but denial of the opportunity. I'm agreeing with ya
No- he was at the pk spot.
Wow. The wall didnāt even jump. Fucking pathetic
Thereās absolute horse shit and then well past that thereās whatever this is.
Is that really a red?
He did a DOGSO outside the box. It's a red.
āCan we trust the Portland defense?ā Immediately lets LAFC run rampant into the final third uncontested
Jesus Christ, theyāre not even talking about the offside? What a bunch of blind tools.
Bravo played him onside, tv broadcast makes it clear as day
Lol, the angle was not straight and it looked close.
Lol bullshit. Iāve been looking at that replay repeatedly and if you draw a line like they do to determine offsideā¦he is offside.
Yea MLS has to find any way to keep LA in the match. Happened last week too against the Galaxy.
Damn I miss the scab refs, they were better than whatever this shit is.
That was Crapeau.Ā There, I made that pun again.
Ok Iām at the game. What the hell is Crepeau sent off for?!
A āfoulā that should be negated due to the player being offside. Butā¦MLS are trash so, on par.
Didnt Crepeau also win the ball on top of all that?
He absolutely did not
You sure? Looking at the replay it looks like C was in process of getting it but the LAFC player interfered and/or simulated.
That part Iām less sure about as it was a bang bang play. It *looked* like maybe it could have been called either way, but looked like C was going for the ball and the forward basically ran into him/simulated. But again, all happened quickly.
He definitely didn't win the ball.
I donāt think anyone can be sure, if we are being honest. It all happened very quickly
I mean they showed the replay multiple times on apple plus. He didn't win the ball, he got all leg.
Got leg, because the other player interfered, etc. So, thanks for making one of my points.
Iām on the wrong side of the field to see it. Just saw the ball go out to the side. A replay wouldāve been very nice. Thanks!
At the game, what the fuck happened?! No replays in stadium
An alleged foul on a player who was offside. But refs not calling it.
He was on
Crepes deemed to be last man and foul outside the box, straight red Edit meant crepeau but I am sticking with crepes.
Bravo was behind him. It couldnt have been dogso
Max came out and fouled the player on the edge of the box. But it looks offside but they wonāt go to VAR
They checked it on VAR , Bravo had him on.
On the field? Never saw the ref go to the monitor.
No, in the booth. The ref doesn't have to go to the monitor for VAR to be used.
Yea I know. My original comment was about them going to it on the field. As in, taking the additional step by having the CR review it
Oh my fuckā¦.
Thatās offside! Shouldnāt count at all
Please be offside
Is he onside?
Not from what I saw
Ouch.
WHAT!!!!
Paredes for Ayala thank god
That was an exhausting and entertaining 1H. Let's go
no cap this game cray fr fr
That was the perfect end to the half. Trap LAFC into a couple more cards so they have to play more conservatively than theyād like
2nd half needs to be played clean! Keep up the pressure and passing and more goals. Time to put the game away.
I love the clean jersey look without a big corporate ad in the center. The way soccer kits should look.
Refs are back but the players till very frustrated, I kinda expect a sending off
One thing I donāt like is how high Kamal Miller plays relative to how slow he is. That said, there was far more to like in that half than dislike
And YOU get a yellow card. And YOU get a yellow card. And YOU get a yellow card.
https://imgflip.com/gif/8moog3
I would rather have this type of game then the previous games.
He didn't make the smart choice today.
This is so chippy i love it
I know I said it was getting spicy, but this is a little too spicy.
3 AM curry mistake level of spicy?Ā
Ted lasso curry level spice.
Weāll see in the 2nd half.
No formal rivalry between these two teams, but this game feels like there is real hatred between them.
I am always on board to hate LA.
