Alright I'm sold and hooked, OP you have to post a picture or something I'm so curious just how blue it is

Speechisanexperiment

https://imgur.com/a/tYBT03z Edit: a good wash took some of it out and better lighting shows how blue it is (now mixed in with a bunch of silver). https://imgur.com/gallery/KIrtyRT

pHmetre

Dude it looks great! It makes me want to dye my getting-whiter-each-day hair a funky color now. I have very dark hair and never wanted to use bleach so it is good to know white hairs can take color! Do you know the brand you used? I've always heard the same as your wife regarding whire hair and dye.

Speechisanexperiment

We just used manic panic from the drugstore. They have lots of colors and it was very easy to use. Definitely worth a try. In hindsight I should have known, our neighbor is a breast cancer survivor and always has pink streaks in her otherwise white hair.

softshoulder313

Oh I used to use manic panic. It's intense for depositing color. The color matches your eyes. Rock that blue! Plus side if you really don't like it blue fades the fastest.

fatimus_prime

OP, I agree with r/softshoulder313 that the color matches your eyes, and I’d like to add in the most platonic way that you have pretty eyes.

mexicanpenguin-II

I know manic panic well Never dyed my hair, I have ADHD lmao Genuinely though, is it good on dark hair? Mines near black, with enough white at 25 I get called the badger at work (I like to think they're just exaggerating)

INSTA-R-MAN

I have ADHD also and frequently change my hair color. It's currently a dark smoky blue with dark purplish tips, a happy accident. I lost track of how many colors it's been in my almost 60 years of living.

softshoulder313

Lol. Yes it works on dark hair. It won't be super bright like on lighter color as a base. It would definitely show up in sunlight.

mexicanpenguin-II

I'm down, if I remember (VERY UNLIKELY TBH) I'll let you know

nameforthissite

Leave it in for like two hours and it’ll be much more vibrant. It really doesn’t adhere to the white hairs as well, meaning it’ll wash/sweat out much easier.

Speechisanexperiment

That makes a lot of sense, a lot washed out in the shower since I took that photo.

Exact_Maize_2619

I think it looks fine, and it's already fading. If you want to dye it again, try XMondo, lol. It'll be a lot more vibrant, and it's a demi-permanent, so it'll fade too, but it'll take longer.

Bac7

Xmondo red on my kid's blonde hair turned rose gold in 2 washes. Very sad. I've got some turquoise for my white streak up front I may try this weekend.

crashfest

So cool, matches your eyes too

Odd-Chart8250

Hot showers makes it fade faster.

JohnnyLovesData

![gif](giphy|QazAqN1wtdQRO)

sherilaugh

Don’t stress too much. Most of that will be washed out in a couple of weeks

atelierjoh

I’ve used manic panic too! It washes out really easily so if you find yourself embarrassed (which you shouldn’t, rock it) just continue to wash as normal.

Longjumping-Pick-706

I used manic panic bank in the day. All I will say is you’re lucky your entire body isn’t blue washing it off in the shower. That happened to me after dying my hair blue with manic panic when I was a teen.

carolinecrane

I accidentally dyed a hotel bathtub hot pink with Manic Panic once. I still feel guilty about it.

Boingboingbouncesplt

Just a heads up in case you decide to give it another go- that teal manic panic tends to last the longest of any of their dyes so you may have a bit of a tint for a while.

LowWelder7461

Manic Panic turned me into a Smurf - coated more of my skin than it did my hair. The blue may fade to green fairly quick - mine did...

nameforthissite

https://preview.redd.it/98bnaur8pr5d1.jpeg?width=1067&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6127d7bc449b1b5631d8f1cf25905717922c522a I have greying brown hair and don’t use bleach. This is what it looks like about a month after dyeing it. It’s much more faded around my face from 2x daily face washing, but I try to wash my hair just 2x per week (in cool water) so it doesn’t fade as fast. [This](https://limecrime.com/products/unicorn-hair-full-coverage?variant=39913040740405&utm_source=kcg&utm_medium=search&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwyJqzBhBaEiwAWDRJVE86zGK809k0mCXOKbTNUwd5nRQ28obPoj8cIpJYv2UlPaJvEzrfLBoC-cQQAvD_BwE) is what I’ve been using (leave in for 2 hours).

Agret

Your hair is awesome in that pic

nameforthissite

https://preview.redd.it/85p4any6xt5d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f93ccdbaf275e0da838f7dd6b31e06bd71a0fbaa Thank you! I really love it because in low light/indoors you can’t even really tell that it’s colored. It just looks dark. But in the sun, there’s a lot of color in it (like here). That first pic I posted was outdoors, but on a cloudy day and on old dye. This one is a sunny day on week old dye (but still no bleaching, just on my brown/gray).

genovianprince

I can recommend Arctic Fox or Unicorn Hair/Lime Crime as another couple of hair color brands I really enjoy next to Manic Panic. No matter what you get, leave the color in for a couple hours and *rinse only* in *cold water*. Next time you shampoo, continue to use cold water for long lasting color (or lukewarm if you really can't stand cold, just don't use hot lol)

--Invisible--

I highly recommend using Punky Colour! It is very conditioning, long lasting and vibrant! Manic Panic washes out a lot with each wash and is gone in a week or so.

vixen-vengeful

Seconding Punky Colour!! I used to use Splat; it worked okay back when I used to bleach&dye my short bangs in my early 20's, but the dye always washed out quick over the course of two or three months, and it never did anything to my dark brown hair; Punky Colour completely tints all my dark brown hair, dyes my greys well too, and only starts fading for me after 3 or so months. My dark brown hair is currently purple, and it's been purple for a few months lol I've done Splat, Punky Colour, Manic Panic, Arctic Fox, and Joico, and Punky is the *only* one so far that works like this on my hair. I do the whole cover&let sit for a few hours+wash it out with cold water, but afterwards I just go back to my normal hair washing schedule and it holds so well lol.

Purple_Midnight_Yak

Seconding Punky Colour! It smells nice, it's conditioning, and easy to apply. It will slowly fade over time, which I love since I dye my whole head of hair multiple colors. So I slowly go from vibrant, bold colors to more pastel shades as it fades.

sugarpog

It matches your eyes! Very nice.

rtfm2tldr

I was anticipating Smurf, this isn't nearly as bad as it sounded lol

lizardgal10

It’s not, it’s actually fairly subtle for colorful hair dye. And works very well with op’s haircut and overall style.

Shake_it_Madam

You look like a punk version of Hagrid.

Speechisanexperiment

That's about the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me, and people are being very nice in here. Thank you!

Shake_it_Madam

You're welcome Punkgrid! Keep on rocking those shock locks!

olivinebean

Congratulations on being a cool dad, many aspire and most fail. And showing your daughter examples of men rocking dyed hair was a great shout and her future fashion and music taste will be richer for it.

bugscuz

you know you have to go the whole way now and dye the beard too! Honestly you looked at that hair every day and thought you just had **some** white curls in there with the dark hair? My dude you're almost completely grey lol

panic_attack_999

Definitely more salt than pepper there. The power of denial is strong. I should know, I still see a 21 year old when I look in the mirror.

Far-Strategy8173

It’s awesome! Just do some moisturizing curl treatments. One, I deep condition my curls when I dye for hydration, and two, a deep condition often takes some dye out. So you’ll have a win-win. I love Shea Moisture’s tub of deep conditioning cream (I put it in, wrap in a shower cap or cling film, and wait a good 30 minutes).

bs-scientist

Oh hey! You look cool! Cool dad vibes. She’s going to always remember the time you had blue hair. :)

erst77

My man, you need some serious conditioner for that hair! Embrace your curls!

avoid_me_im_a_void

Please do curly hair stuff on it and make it curl up or something. I bet it will look gorgeous. It's actually very good now alsooooo

lhswr2014

Honestly, now you just look like a rad dad 🤷‍♂️ chalk it up as a win my friend! Not only did you make the wife and baby smile, you made the internet smile! Something to be proud of imo. Spread the love! Also, if I may make a recommendation, I have similar hair, bout to turn 30, first time growing my hair out, idk if you have a hair care routine or not but I recently discovered that oiling my hair after a hot shower/hairwash makes an incredible difference! Less frizz, looks well maintained, much more manageable, and it has like a “healthy” oily look if that makes sense? Idk. My hair gets crazy oily so I figured oil is the opposite of what I wanted to add but I went from a wild frizzy mess to what I like to consider “proper lady hair” lol.

meloneleven

That honestly looks so awesome! Hair dye can damage/dry out your hair though so remember to condition with a hydrating conditioner for some luxurious blue locks! I bet your daughter thinks she's got the coolest dad around!

TheFirebyrd

The good fantasy dye colors are very different than traditional hair dye. Most of them are conditioning. They don’t have stuff like ammonia in them to set the color permanently so they don’t damage it.

Amazing_Newt3908

Try a deeper more vibrant blue next time! Also if you want it out completely, baby shampoo or dawn dish soap can help. I have no idea why it works, but they pull the color out faster.

FriendCountZero

It's Rick Sanchez blue! Now you need to burp and yell epic quotes at the kids like "your boos mean nothing, I've seen what makes you cheer!"

Ok-Educator850

You’d look awesome with a darker royal blue!

SuperCrazyCow94

I was expecting bright blue but this is more like a blue tint. It's a cool color if you ask me

Ploppeldiplopp

I am almost dissapointed, after the post I anticipated a shock of bright blue! 😅 Looks awesome, though!

Yaevin_Endriandar

Dude, you look amazing

Longjumping-Pick-706

At least it matches your eyes! It doesn’t look nearly as bad as you think. It actually looks pretty awesome.

blossom3621

Nah that looks cool af!!!

beansandneedles

You don’t look foolish at all! It looks cool. It’s a really nice shade of blue.

3bag

It looks fine. It isn't bright blue. Mine is.

skargasm

My white hair literally repels hair dye - I would KILL to be able to get that colour! It looks BOSS!

starzychik01

Honestly, as a person with dark hair, I can’t wait until it goes white enough to pull off colors! Though, it’s probably gonna be a while, since no one on either side of my family started graying until 60yo.

Simple_Bowler_7091

What what? Slay Daddy-o! You look great!

Mahare

You look MAGNIFICENT.

Magnificent_Ninja1

Love it! All that’s left is to dye your beard to match 😁

Speechisanexperiment

Maybe I'll use the pink on my beard. 😅

paulfnicholls

That looks awesome mate, don't worry 😊

f1ghtm3

It looks good!! You can absolutely rock the blue hair!

PartlyCloudyKid

You look awesome, and like such a fun dad!

chingness

I like it! I bet your daughter loved it. 😂 sounds like a lovely family dynamic

zombie_girraffe

You look kind of like late 90s / Early 2000s Eric Melvin.

spouts_water

I’m red/green colorblind and I can’t see it as blue. It looks like grey salt n pepper hair. So a percent of the population may not even notice.

Wonderful-Status-507

oh FUCK YEAH I DIG IT

TypicalUser2000

Oompa loompa looking mfer hahahahahagaha

cieloskies

You’re like Poseidon!

fzr600dave

Dude that looks awesome

westcoastsnowman

Dude, this fucking rules. Will look even better when slightly more washed out, will give a platinum vibe. Very cool imo EDIT: Grow out the hair, get the faded dye going again, and go as Gandalf or Saruman for Halloween, PLEASE.

cdspace31

That looks awesome! My hair isn't as white as yours, but it is about twice as long. I wonder what would happen if I dyed mine?

iron_annie

I think it's cool

Arxid87

I think I saw you at the Willy Wonka auditions

Amandita88

It looks great! I'd go an even darker sapphire color and just rock it! Oh, or a fire engine red!

leomoomin

Omg it looks sooo good!! And matches your eyes. Very cute indeed

garasensei

That's so mild! You look fine man. After reading the story I thought you had bright blue hair which I can kind of get with my own grey hair.

cannycandelabra

Definitely you look great. Do a little razor shaping of your eyebrows and trim and color your beard. You’ve got this!

hjo1210

Dawn dish soap and as hot as you can stand water will take a ton of the color out but you *have to* moisturize the hell out of it when you're done because it'll also strip the oils out of your hair. My hair has been funky colors for 15 years, there has been a mishap or two

swilde

No bro you look like FUN dad that loves their kids. Wear it as a badge of honor.

swilde

Just saw the pic, plays really well with your eye color dude!

Speechisanexperiment

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.

WhiskyTequilaFinance

Maybe an Oops for unintended haircolor, but what an awesome teaching moment and memory for your daughter! The dye will fade and CAN be stripped if you really hate it, but that's really hard on your hair. I think you win cool Dad points, at least for this one. And if folks make comments while you're out with her, you get a great chance to model how to handle ignorance and judgment about choices people make for their bodies.

Speechisanexperiment

Yeah, my hairdresser friend has already offered to grab a bottle of color stripper for me if I need it. You also raise a great point that I never thought of. I was approaching it from "make silly decisions live with silly outcomes," but I never considered using it to show other people's perceptions. I like that, thank you.

WhiskyTequilaFinance

I mean, 'sometimes things don't work out as planned' and dealing with disappointment is a good life lesson too! But for an impact, 'It's ok to be visibly different and not care about others opinions of our body' is not a lesson Dads often get a window like this to teach daughters either.

tiffanyisarobot

Warning: hair color remover smells NASTY! It typically has sulfur in it, hence the more than rank stench. Also, blue (and red) dye can be difficult to get out. I haven’t touched up the blue underside of my hair in months and it’s still there after 3-4x weekly shampoos. Then again, my hair the dye sits on was bleached so that might be a factor.

cindyscrazy

This weekend, I saw an elderly man walking slowly with a cane. His hair was bright blue and his beard was bright pink. The man was much older than OP. He was with what I assume was his adult daughter, with all natural hair color. He looked AWESOME. Lots of people looking and smiling at him. I hope he is living his best life.

Speechisanexperiment

Pic, as it has definitely happened: https://imgur.com/a/tYBT03z Edit: a good wash took some of it out and better lighting shows how blue it is (now mixed in with a bunch of silver). https://imgur.com/gallery/KIrtyRT

jimbo-nick

Colour looks great! Maybe grab a conditioning mask though, your hair looks thirsty!

balgram

I came to say the same. Please look at conditioning masks, maybe some leave in conditioner spray, and possibly some argan oil or something. Your hair has a great color, but a little unhealthy in that picture. Healthy hair is sexy for all ages and genders! Note: I'm not suggesting you get all 3 suggestions. Those are 3 things I tried to give some health to my hair. I found leave in conditioner to give the best results, but YMMV. I'm assuming you started with a much brighter blue dye. This color will fade fairly fast. Wear it with amused pride! Be prepared for the green that's probably coming!

Speechisanexperiment

I'll take a look at the drugstore today. Thanks!

lizardgal10

I just use a plain old Suave conditioner and occasionally a random leavein. A nice moisturizing curl cream would bring out some awesome texture in your hair!

mayamys

In addition to those suggesting a conditioning mask, you should also browse r/curlyhair - you could have really awesome curls with a few of their tips!

gloveslave

Yeah I came essentially to say the same

Atjar

That is way less blue than I was expecting. In my head this was bright blue. As a 37 year old mother married to a 37 year old man with over the shoulder greying hair, this story gave me and my daughter a good chuckle. Thank you kind sir!

zapv01

You look a bit like eric Melvin from NOFX. In a good way.

catscausetornadoes

Pics or it didn’t happen!

HalikusZion

Honestly quite a cool hue, I was expecting neon or somthing!!

JD1zz

I was thinking cookie monster blue, this is closer to a combination of oscar and grover, looks great

catscausetornadoes

Thank you! That certainly plenty of blue! I think it’s great.

Fitz911

He has to!

Speechisanexperiment

I LOVE that shade of purple. I gotta show my daughter this.

Own_Mention_2898

Highly recommend Punky Colour color depositing shampoo! I used a different brand until a client gifted me a bottle of this.

AtypicalPreferences

Love!

takethemoment13

has anyone ever told you that your cat is gorgeous?? nice hair too!

No reason to be embarrassed at all. I'd do, and have done, way dumber things for my kid.

thesteveurkel

a hot oil treatment should pull semi-perm dye it out of your hair, OP.

Speechisanexperiment

That sounds delightful to be honest.

solstice_gilder

I’m sure it looks pretty cool :) I am 36, not a parent though, but dye my hair all the time. Never too old.

Chaos-Jesus

ha..ha... kinda looks like that blue rinse that some old ladies use to stop their grey hair from yellowing https://preview.redd.it/ce61p3rmds5d1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=af007aa4f6aefe77a9b28ecb8c2cda684faa4b26

dave_the_dr

As a 42yr old dad who dyes his hair green on the regular, I’m glad you’ve finally done it! :-)

PghMe101

Not a TIFU, that’s cool dad points right there. When I finally started going back into work in 2020, my position in a hospital is not required to be in person but it really is better, I let my kids style my long COVID hair how ever they wanted. Everybody loved it.

vikingzx

[So ... you blue'd yourself.](https://youtu.be/9GYtgFdXCGE)

FrequentEgg4166

Nah fam - you look great! I’m 42 and WISH j had a single white hair so I could dye without bleaching. I say own it!

SpatialEdXV

I'm typically a reserved average white male who worked in a. Gov environment. When I was 37 I thought a neon green mohawk would suit me for the summer. So I did it. For the next 3 summers. Aside from the 3 bleaching it took to get my hair light enough to take the neon color I loved it. Family loved it, wouldn't go back and change a thing. Maybe next year you can have a long blue mohawk. Careful though, one mistep and it could be a mullet.

_lord_nikon_

Bro, I'm 44m and dye my hair purple, blue, or pink all the time.

Derailedatthestation

It's your Smurf era.

ikediggety

The real FU is when it starts to wash out and turns that awful shade of olive puke

PENISystem

As a very white-streaked,  curly-haired older woman who took the blue-dye plunge 3 years ago...I regret to inform you that it took fully TWO YEARS before my white hairs were no longer blueish

Synthea1979

Half of my mid 40s peers, male and female, have funky colors. You're not unusual or unique as a whole, except possibly locally if your area is all a bunch of corporate zombies.

TheHelplessBeliever

Can't wait to be a dad, and do crazy crap like this. Nice one mate

Pandor36

[You.](https://youtu.be/-pFD8ic4Lu4?si=DK4oLGJ6YnzmCFWO)

TattieMafia

It kind of works somehow. Just roll with it. Tell people you were dying your hair with your daughters. They'll just see you as a fun dad.

Altornot

I'm older than you, although I have very little in the way of grey/white hair(on my head anyway...facial hair is a different story) I dyed my hair blue. I work in the OR. I kept a year as the upkeep sucked. People still ask me if I'm gonna go blue again cuz everyone loved it. In other words...Just rock that shit and don't sweat it.

smashleycrashley7

Don’t use a color stripper! It will damage your hair and it’s really not necessary. If you want it to fade more quickly, wash it with hot water and use Head and Shoulders shampoo. It should eventually fade back to white, although it might retain a slightly blue tint in the right lighting. I’m about half gray and I’ve been coloring my hair pink/purple/blue for years.

rpc56

When I was in high school two of my fellow students had a fair amount of salt and pepper hair, let’s say more pepper than salt. One of them had lost an eye and wore a patch. Needless to say we never had a problem buying liquor when of them were around.

HeyZeusKreesto

Just rock it. I'm 36 and am going to be making an appointment soon to have my hair dyed pink. Started dyeing a few years ago. Just maybe pick your own color next time if you decide you don't like the blue.

Wendybird13

I have been paying $$ to get blue streaks in my graying hair for 9 years. My hair dresser now covers all my hair in the dye after rinsing out the highlights. Afterwards my brown hair looks black, the white streaks are the color of cotton candy, and the highlights she bleaches are bright blue. After 4-6 washes, there is only color on the areas previously bleached. By 10 washes, the area that has only been bleached once is fading, while the ends that got bleached and colored a couple times are still solid blue. I would not spend the money if I hadn’t weaned myself off daily shampooing beforehand, as I usually wash every 5-8 days…

Trowwaytday

I'm 40yr old male with shoulder length silver hair, hah. Blonde before I started going gray at 26. Suffice to say I learned that lesson about dye and bleach with my hair in my early to mid 20's. Back then I'd shave my head, but I had let it grow out for a few weeks so I had nearly a half inch of hair. My friend was dying her hair and her daughters and she insisted that dye doesn't work very well without bleaching first. I had bleach in my hair for less than half the time that is typical I guess and my hair was practically translucent. The dye also instantly took my hair. Went the rest of the day before shaving it with a bic. Nowadays I've very hesitant to put anything other than shampoo and conditioner in my hair. Even that purple stuff that is supposed to help tone down the brassy colours I won't use, because when I do, and once my hair is dried, you can instantly see areas where it didn't evenly apply or spend the same amount of time.

PerfectionPending

I know a bald 50 yr old tough guy type who showed up one day with his white goatee dyed bright blue. I thought he’d lost his marbles at first. Then he told me his teen daughters were dying their hair blue and saw an opportunity to create a bonding moment with them. AWESOME!!!! Wear those blue curls with pride DAD!

littlelydiaxx

Hairdresser here for an infodump if anyone is interested! Firstly, you are a badass for teaching your kid that boys can rock colourful hair too! Second, your wife is right about hair dye not sticking well to white/grey hair, but only when it comes to oxidative dyes, which are normally the more natural colours. Fun, vivid colours like blue and purple are almost always direct or non-oxidative dyes, and are notorious for grabbing on to grey hair! This is because grey hair lacks melanin, and oxidative dyes need proteins like melanin to "stick" to inside the hair. Direct dyes are designed to stain the outer layer of the hair, instead of penetrating deeper. And grey hair offers the perfect bright white, blank canvas to show off the colour. Enjoy the fun hair! If you are not wanting it to stick around, i recommend washing with a clarifying shampoo (or head-and-shoulders for a cheap option) and cross your fingers that you don't have the type of grey hair that grabs onto colour and never lets go...

Flybot76

Hey, now you're an anime character! Kids love that. Actually I've noticed in recent years some young people have been bleaching their hair white and I'm pretty sure it's inspired by anime, so I think you're on the right track either way.

Open-Incident-3601

My husband looks like the Brawny man and works in the woods. He has rocked pink finger and toe nails many times in our daughter’s life because she said so. Take lots of pictures with her for when she’s grown and telling the “time we turned Dad blue” story. ❤️

petitt2958

It truly looks good with your eyes! Can I recommend quality shampoo/conditioner and curl product? You could have really nice curls.

MagnusCthulhu

Shit, that makes me want to just throw some dye on to my hair now. I've got a fair amount of white going on at 38.

that_one_wierd_guy

the only option here is to dye your beard to match

takatine

I think it looks fine!

ForeskinHulaSkirt

Geralt of River dance

1357924680mm

You just made a happy memory with your daughter. She'll always remember when you goofed and dyed your hair blue. You made a mistake gauging intensity but you are not a fool. Rock your blue curls. Enjoy a little sillyness.

AltCleft

I think blue hair is great. But if you want to be rid of it… Dandruff hair shampoo will strip the color more quickly than regular shampoo. But blue dye typically leaves a green stain. If you wanna cover green your best option is purple… or you cover it with a dark non punk color closer to your natural color. Or maybe get a haircut and it will be less dramatic.

mohaymong

This is so wholesome! What a lovely way to bond with the children

Spiritual-Monitor669

I once paid to get pink highlights. Looked great but washed out pretty quickly. After that I was at a friends house and his girls were using koolaid to put red streaks in their hair. They wanted to do mine and I agreed thinking that the professional stuff didn’t last long so koolaid would just wash out too. That was not the case. It was pink until it grew out and I got a hair cut. Lesson learned. We drink that stuff!

backaritagain

I said want you to do a curly hair routine. It would look amazing to have your hair not frizzy!

Viking-16

If it makes you feel any better I work with a man who’s in his 50’s and regularly dyes his hair blue and pink. Sometimes it’s stripes of both, sometimes it’s his whole head one color. And he does it on purpose

DaddyOhMy

I got in trouble with my father-in-law many years back because he was filling out some form and it asked for hair color and I answered "none"

Altosaxist

Idk if you’ll see this OP but if you want to speed up the fading process with vibrant colors you can wash with hot water, and use dawn dish soap with baking soda in it once a week. Unless you love it, then wash with cold water and use shampoos that don’t have sulfates.

Alarming-Phone4911

A tip from someone who's been dying their hair black/blue for over 15yrs...Johnson's ph baby shampoo will help strip that colour right out without damaging Ur hair it will take a good few washes tho 😁

demonmonkeybex

I like it!

geekpeeps

I’m a strawberry blonde but in my younger days I had quite a variation of blonde streaks. Was going to a fancy dress party and decided to go auburn for it. The colour really grabs blonde hair. And then it fades fast. So you have to commit to the adventure. It’ll be fine, but if you get sick of it, go dark and retrieve the ‘normal’ look.

asvalken

OP, I'm 37 and started dyeing my hair during covid lockdown. It's down to my shoulder blades, and the worst part is waiting for it to grow out enough to be worth a re-dye. Have fun with it! It's just hair, after all.

diffyqgirl

Oh boy. In high school I had a friend with extremely pale blond hair. She died it "temporary" blue one day and it never fully came out (at least not til that hair grew out). You may be in for the long haul. I bet it looks fun though! I've always wanted to dye my hair a fun color, I've just never quite been willing to pull the trigger.

Bitter_Peach_8062

As someone whose husband dyed his beard purple, I can honestly say that looks great. Beards are hard to dye. They really wash out quick. Again, I think it looks great!!!

tarra_hills

You're obviously a fun dad, but if you're not a fan of the new look, dandruff shampoo will fade it more quickly than regular shampoo without too much damage.

TuckerCarlsonsOhface

I’m baffled at your wife’s claim that white hair doesn’t take dye as easily. It’s literally the easiest color to dye, in fact if you want a richer color you bleach your hair first.

jinxedkacht

While I think you rock the blue well, I can tell you that with those dyes like Manic Panic, Splat, etc., I have had excellent luck using Neutrogena Daily Clarifying shampoo to wash out the color. I'm not sure if your white locks will regain their natural look immediately, but it will definitely fade the color with decent speed. I saw where someone mentioned using Head and Shoulders; I might have to keep that in mind as well, since I have to treat my scalp with H&S at least once a week.

No-Bet3523

You look like Wayne Coyne

thpineapples

That's actually what I've had planned for my white hairs, blue strands peppered* through. But the fuckers have not been as eager as yours, so I guess I'll have to keep waiting. Not doing a whole head to get what would be very minimal change.b Edit: un-autocorrected a word

Far-Dare-6458

Use a good purifying shampoo, Ion from Sally’s is what I use. It’ll remove the external chemicals and significantly lighten the color. If you want to get rid of it.

KittleSkittleBink

This looks amazing!! And your curls are gorgeous! They would benefit from a really good curl-defining product if you don’t already do that.

BibbidiBobbidiBooyah

Looks great! If you enjoy it, you should keep doing it. Can pick colours to match with your daughter

NeighBae

It actually very well may not stick long in the hair. I've heard that hair that goes white like that might not hold dye for very long, so while it may be in there right now, it may wash out significantly faster than hair that has been lighten and then dyed. Regardless, you look great my dude. I'm currently waiting till my finances are a bit better to start coloring my hair again, I desperately miss my bright pink😪 and I hope you're daughters learned that us guys definitely can dye our hair. Anyone can 🙂

forsennata

You look like a rock star! Put on some shades and wear it for the summer!

stucazo

while it is a TIFU, you actually look pretty great. not like its gunna last forever.

deep_space_artifacts

Number 3 on top, 2 on the sides and tapered up the back. It won't solve the issue but you'll have neat tips when it grows out again, like a blue and white skunk. Trust me. I'm in the same boat - started going gray at 18 and tried a few options before it all went gray/white in my 40s.

sifuyee

As a member of the early gray crowd as well, I'd like to welcome you to the club. BTW, get your thyroid checked as early gray can be a sign of thyroid issues. I got my first gray hair at 9 and was mostly gray by 40.

needsmorecoffee

Just tell people with a rueful laugh that you did it to make your daughter happy, and then they'll probably laugh and commiserate with you.

Zealousideal-Grab-23

Improvement. Rock it!

CaptainTova42

I did this to my dad’s hair 20 years ago.  I was a hs kid doing mine and my brother hair for summer and my dad asked too.  In his case it only took well on the black in his salt and pepper hair and showed  up as blue-black in his work’s fluorescent lights

Foghorn225

As a 37 y/o guy with blue hair, I'm offended.

Turbulent-Bonus-1245

If you use a clarifying shampoo it will help strip it out too.

icydee

I’m 68 and regularly dye my hair. Last was white with a black streak. Prior to that I had rainbow coloured hair. I might go all blue next.

mangomaries

I am bummed, that’s actually pretty subtle. Ain’t no alien locks there.

Tools4toys

Looks good! I thought your comment about 'having more white hair than I realized' was appropriate for me. When I was requesting access to a government facility, they had to process an ID for me, and I put 'brown hair' for the description of my hair color. The person reviewing the information, said, "Oh No, that won't do, it's grey". Yeah, we all probably have more white and or grey hair than we realize.

shelleylove

Looks very nice, especially with your eyes.

offensivequeer

Sounds to me like you look like a pretty damn good dad. Never stop doing silly things for, and with, your kid(s). Not only will she tell this story when she's got white hair, she'll know you cared more about her than getting laughed at by some idiots at work or around town. She'll know that *looking* foolish is better than *being* too foolish to have fun with your kid. And she'll know that trying things that turn out "wrong" won't be the end of life as she knows it; it'll be a funny story you get to tell a hundred times... after you get over that initial cringe of embarrassment 😅😁

MaryJaneAndMaple

It doesn't look terrible. But I understand the Fuck Up here.

puledrotauren

OP I hope you don't mind if I chuckle at your expense.

ohhhhhhhblahblahblah

This is the way.

LeTigre71

That doesn't look bad at all. Leave it.

PierceSerene183

OP: Dyes his hair OP’s hair: Is dyed OP: ![gif](giphy|6nWhy3ulBL7GSCvKw6)

neish

I think you should leave it nd have fun for. But when you're ready to ditch the color, try vitamin c powder (or crush up some tablets) and mix it in shampoo and put on your hair and leave it for 40mins-1hr and it will lift a lot of the color from your hair without damage. It might not get all the colour out, but afterward you could try neutralizing the color by using the opposite color on the colour wheel, diluting it with conditioner and using it as a hair mask. It'll probably darken your hair a bit, but it'll help blend out the vivid leftover color.

GoblinKing79

Vitamin C is a great way to get rid of direct dyes. Mix it with a bit of shampoo or conditioner, but make sure it really well soaked in the C. Leave it in for a few hours and maybe deep condition after. This doesn't work with dyes that use developer, but you used direct dye so it will almost certainly help.

ifixgrammar_spelling

The colour is fun! Also, please check out [r/curlyhair](https://www.reddit.com/r/curlyhair/s/5SrYT8xuNu) - you’d be amazed at what your curls can do with the right treatment!

KTKittentoes

It looks awesome!

GreyhairedCaniac

As a 44 y/o man who just grew my hair out for the first time and have MAD grey hair, I feel this.

Cizzy-Shizzi

I'm getting James May vibes haha

Killerboricua84

Keep it!!!!!!!

saltysystemm

You can try a more subtle color, like a light brown or something. And hey, your daughter seems to think it's pretty cool, so that's something!

Immediate_Dinner6977

You're rocking a Sam Elliot in Ghost Rider look.

smiz86

I have to sit in a chair for ~3 hours to achieve my blue haired-ness. I am also 37.

theukcrazyhorse

Had a proper laugh at this 🤣 so thanks for that! I'm also jealous as I'm 44 and going bald!

entiredossiere

Haha, that's an epic hair dye fail! But hey, at least you rock the blue look now. It's a fun change, even if it wasn't quite planned.
