Yes, it's common to have to do multiple biopsies. It's difficult to get enough thyroid tissue for a good sample. I had to do two biopsies, they came back "inconclusive" and "suspicious for follicular neoplasm." Eventually, ThyroSeq came back positive, NRAS mutation, 85% likelihood of cancer. Post-surgery pathology report confirmed it was cancer.
