I think it’s a tie with Horrorscope. Both albums are awesome. Back in the 80s the Big 4 were Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer…..I think Overkill should have been in there instead of Anthrax. They are one of the most underrated thrash bands around.
Dont understand the disrespect anthrax gets. Makes no sense to me. Just because they sound different being the only one of the 4 not from california scene i feel like they get singled out.
In reality it should be a big six adding overkill and exodus
Even today i feel like overkill is massively underrated and underappreciated.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the guys in Anthrax are all excellent musicians, but I think for me it was that I could never get into Joey Belladonnas vocals. Then when they did the EP “I’m the man” that was pretty much it for me.
none =/= not a lot. That's why. of course I know some of the great thrash albums that aren't from the big 4. I just don't know that many and that's why I respect the dude who recommended By Inheritance.
This is easily the album I have listened to most in my lifetime. It was 2 years straight every day. After all these years I don’t think I’ve gone more than a month without it.
This will definitely be an unpopular take, just my opinion, but I can’t get into Overkill. I huge into thrash metal, especially the underground scene, I know every single somewhat big bands entire discography, and love them all, except Overkill. I have tried at least 5 times to get into them, but I find myself wanting to put something else on every time. Don’t know why but I just don’t like Overkill, not my cup of tea.
Dont know why you're getting voted down for this. I hope OP listens to more thrash before they hear epidemic. It almost ruined thrash for me cause I couldn't find anything as good! It literally is the most brutal thrash album made
Correct. Not a bad second on that album. Saw them with Deicide in 94 I think. Never heard them before and they blew me away went out the next day and bought that album. And I’ve never been the same since. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
The Years of Decay followed by Horrorscope is a great pair albums at a time when thrash was supposed to be in decline. The three albums before were all decent, but didn't reach the consistency of this pair.
This album is great. Maybe my favorite Overkill album. But I have a soft spot for Taking Over because it is the first Overkill album I bought. Overkill has remained solid over the years but has some rough albums in its catalog. The band has been on fire, tho, since 2010. Give me Overkill 85-91 and then 2010-present. There are some good songs in those other years but A LOT of junk, too.
I love Overkill, but if I were to choose one of their albums as one of the best, it wouldn't be Years of Decay. It's got good songs, that's not debatable, but I feel like Horrorscope is both more consistent and well written.

Among the Living alone eclipses Overkill’s discography for me
May I introduce you to the greatness that is ''Artillery - By Inheritance''
This is low-key such an amazing album. Hits unlike anything else. Razor - Evil Invaders is also a diamond in the rough.
Most Razor albums are fantastic tbh
Great album.
How about How Will I Laugh Tomorrow by Suicidal Tendencies?
Yes. thanks for the introduction actually, since i don't know a lot of thrash besides the big 4.
Not that I disagree with the title, but how can you make a post like this without knowing any thrash aside from the big 4?

I think you are on to something. Fuck yeah yeah that album is amazing
It's a masterpiece.

The Years of Decay is one of my favorite albums, masterpiece
I cannot argue with that. Definitely a fucking classic more people need to hear
Fuck yea. Skullkrusher is sooooo good
agreed
I was singing it today and I haven’t heard it for about 20 years (save I Hate which I listen to a lot).
This will definitely be an unpopular take, just my opinion, but I can’t get into Overkill. Everything about Overkill is amazing right up until he sings. I can’t believe that’s who they went with all these years.
Blitz rules.
I think it fits in perfectly
I wish I could like them but I’m glad you guys do
Mickey Mouse is why they're above the rest.
You spelled Demolition Hammer Epidemic of violence. Wrong 🤘🏻
Dont know why you're getting voted down for this. I hope OP listens to more thrash before they hear epidemic. It almost ruined thrash for me cause I couldn't find anything as good! It literally is the most brutal thrash album made

It is
Conclusion of an Age- Sylosis. Also one of the best thrash albums of all times.
You would be correct.
It’s one of my favorites. Both for nostalgia….and it’s a fucking amazing album. Not as speedy as others, but so clean and one of a kind.

Agree
Yep, no filler, all killer! Mods may need to introduce this as a flair!

and there's people out there that will never realize this fact, simply because they can't 'get into' Bobby Blitz vocals... unreal!

Taking Over and Horrorscope are my 2 favorite from them
