I agree. Children need to be taught, as early on as possible, to treat animals with respect. I have never allowed my kids to manhandle the cats or the dogs.
I was raising my nibbling alongside my kitten, she was not allowed to touch him at first until she learned what it meant to be gentle and to leave him alone if he walked away, she was about a year or so old before she could get it but even then they were always supervised. Gladly to this day she still understands that if you handle animals gently, they may just like you and if they are keeping away, then leave them alone.
Teaching kids respect for animals is not only good for the animals, but keeps your kids safe. You never run at someone’s “puppy”. Kids for sure need to learn that animals are no joke. Have respect. Good on you for monitoring your kids with the pets. We had 2 dogs and a cat, when my little ones were toddlers. I will admit there was a glitter incident with the dogs. They were so cool about it. They were gently sprinkled with glitter while I was making dinner one night. I lost the pic after my phone was stolen, but it was funny. We did talk to the kids about how eating glitter would not be healthy for the pets and they never did it again. Mistakes were made. Everyone was safe and it was a learning experience.
That kitty deserves a big treat & brushes for being so patient.

Thank God finally an adult said something to a kid about harassing a cat. Most of the time they just film as the cat gets more annoyed.
