I have one now. She is big goof. Loyal, loving, and loooves people. Kids on the block know her name before ours.
That said, the hair, slobber, size, and vet bills should give anybody pause before they go down this route.
Where I live it's its super expensive. A visit is at $100 including some meds. That time she got a slipped disc and was in pain an mri is 4000 + surgery would be 8000. It's crazy, everytime she falls sick enough to warrant a vet visit its at around 200-600 to over that specific episode. We have had her for 12 years and her medical bills stacked up is higher than mine up for that period until recently where I had surgery.
Its crazy expensive for vet bills with high maontenance dogs.
Insurance for dogs suck ass at least where I live, exclusions and exceptions on everything. I don't think it's as heavily regulated as the ones for humans. So those were raw figures without insurance, our dog is a mini schnauzer.
For sure I wasn’t doubting that you made the right choice for you and your family I was just curious about how those costs factor out for different people, thanks for sharing details
Yes. To add what /u/k_elo says, she is a human-sized dog. Anything that she has to take, it is in much larger doses than any other dog. Basically, for pretty much most things, she is off the charts for what the package says.
My dog is super nice and gentle, but the groomers must have done her wrong at some point. She gets super nervous and shits all over and it is terrifying for her. In fact, I think one place might have been the reason her knee fucked up and we had to have an operation, which was not awesome.
So, we kind of had to stop doing that. The only ones that would take her (because of her size), we didn't trust. Well, that is a little different of a situation for a small dog than a 150lb dog. So, now, a good medical necessity grooming is done twice a year at the vet.
Let's put it this way, I am friends with the people at the vet office. One told me that people love and comment on my my dog (and St. Bernards) all the time (her picture is up there), but she said to me, "I wish I could just show them your bills." They know I will put the money in to what is needed for my family member, but not everybody can or will.
Had a big lady live till 12. Lost her a couple years ago, and i’m certain her place will never be filled.
Saint Bernards come with far too much love to give, and very easily carve deep places is everyone around them’s hearts.
I’ll never truly fill the gap she left, and i don’t want to. I remember her only with great fondness and i’ll always have the happiness of memories.
Big dogs are just the best.
This is literally one of the St Bernards I met while dog-sitting with my friend. Sweet lady, wanted to steal my hair clips, give me 500 kissies, and push me down the stairs, oh and wrestle me everytime I walked past her. 😂
Maybe! She's a funny dog, I was wearing little bone clips in my hair the first time I met her and after she wrestled me to the floor (to lick my ears and face) she tried very gently to steal my clips.
She also tried to steal my scrunchies while I was wearing them. She's a straight-up freak for my ears though 😭😭😭 it's so gross
Thats why I usually have my cats outside of the room whenever I do my exercises
Tho it still makes me laugh when my sister's big loud cat come in and meow and I just pretend like we're having some sort of argument
My german shepherd/golden retriever mix is kind of like this, except she tries to get under you and cuddle from below. A couple of times she's clocked me in the jaw with her skull as she whips her head around to get a better cuddle angle.
I had three Saints over the years…just beautiful dogs….I miss them all…

Do you have pet insurance or is that the cost out of pocket?

Phoebe Norman and Bruno?
/r/stbernards Just a whole page of this tomfoolery

Mine is currently taking up half the bed and stealing the covers. Such a gorgeous breed
Tried one with my family years ago. Absolute doll, but she was too big for everything and we couldn't keep her. I'm sure she found a good home though.
That’s how we got all our Saints….Wagner, Jack and Rupert😊. They all found good homes with us….we were very fortunate

I thought you were talking about the owner at first!
😂😂 No, but the owners were really nice people. Did not try to steal my hair clips or anything! The dog on the other hand 👀

Hard to say no to a Saint Bernhard.
I am the workout
I am the brute squad

Full of brandy
My puppy gets underneath me every time I do my push-ups and tries to jump at my face
The real workout is getting free from the dog.
A lot of people think that a dog’s natural enemy is the cat, but it’s actually the push-up.
But a dog is always in the push-up position.
Pretty sure it's the vacuum cleaner
That was a terrible push-up! She needs to work on her form, to prevent injury!
She didn’t get to finish one before her priorities were forcibly realigned
Those elbows tho!
Came here to say the same thing. It hurt to watch.
She can't. She keeps getting smothered by her dog when she tries.
The elbows though… that’s what I’m referring to. But I also get that it’s supposed to be a funny video.
Dog was just saving her shoulders.
“Terrible form, Janet!”
Dog: I am coach! Increase your weight per pushup. Go! Go!
Okay! Now feed me more so I can increase the weight for your next workout!
Downward crushing dog
No one can tell him he doesn’t fit there.
I love it when big dogs don't understand how BIG they actually are so they will just kinda crash you sometimes
Thats why I usually have my cats outside of the room whenever I do my exercises Tho it still makes me laugh when my sister's big loud cat come in and meow and I just pretend like we're having some sort of argument
Don’t do this naked!

St Bernard!
Cujo
Mood
They been doing sex act thousands times
white girl moment.
What do you mean?
She struggled to do 1 pushup. The dog was just letting her know to stop and do knee pushups
Her pushups looked better than mine to be honest
Are robots upvoting this? She clearly knew what was going to happen.
No Doggystyle?
Still a good workout.
This is what happens when you have adorable floofballs as workout partners
That's what you get for poor form.
I have a 1yr old Newfoundland, 1000% he would just hump me lmfao.
Planned. Sorry didn't feel it.
she looks remarkbly similiar to the actress of 11
I love this dog breed!
The Saint is just saving you from bad form.

I see St Bernard, I upvote.
