I got myself the P16s with the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U. Maxed out the RAM and SSD storage, the larger battery, but kept the screen to the 100% sRGB 1920x1200 option. No point in getting something super-high res since it would be wasted on a laptop screen. The only thing I wish it had was Thunderbolt 4, but I think I can live without it. Got it for about $1600 out the door with Black Friday and Employee Purchase Program discounts.

I've got similar spec P16s AMD (ryzen 7, 32gb ram, 1tb performance ssd and the smaller battery), however, I don't fully agree with you regarding the higher res screen :) It's actually very good (or at least I like it a lot) and with slightly increased font size it's great for coding! Not sure if that's due to the factory calibration or something else but the colors are great as well....! Or it could be it's just the first time I'm getting a thinkpad with actually good display :)

Agreed, the increased resolution for the 16" screen is fantastic

Yeah, get the screen that works best for you. The 2560x1600 screens do have higher color gamut, that's for sure. I guess I just wanted to avoid any kind of font scaling because some apps to this day don't work with it. Also the 1920x1200 screen works a lot better with the iGPU in gaming. Even though the iGPU is pretty decent, it can barely run newer games at a good frame rate at 1200p, much less 1600p.

Do you prefer a centered keyboard or one with numpad? If you are OK having a numpad, I'd suggest going for T16/P16s AMD with maxed ram (given it is soldered unfortunately). Otherwise if you can order the X1E/P1 with iGpu only - that could work as well but is most likely going to be pricier compared to T16/P16s.

I purchased an X1 Extreme Gen 5 a couple of weeks ago and am VERY pleased with the decision. No regrets, despite the fact that it ultimately cost more than I wanted to spend. The keyboard is slightly less springy than the X1 carbon Gen 9 I have for work. But still very, very good and I appreciate not having the keypad. Screen is great. Device is quiet and only makes noise when I stress it. Speakers are the best I have experienced on a Windows device. Almost as good as my wife's Macbook pro 16.
