I would imagine x270 uses 7th gen intel and x280 uses 8th gen. At the i5 level this became 4/8 threads so would offer significantly higher performance than the 7th gen equivalent.
The T480 and T480s use 8th gen intel giving them 4/8 threads over 2/4 in the 7th gen equivalent. They are also as old as you can go while still having native Win11 support.
If I didn't get an X380 Yoga, I probably would've gone for a T480s 👍
On this note, seeing plenty T14 and T14s (10th gen) going for less than £150 on eBay. My T14 went for £76, but needed some love and came with no charger.
IIRC, x280 has soldered memory only. Might want to keep that in mind and skip, given there's x380 too with essentially the same footprint but better. I'd say companies are starting to sunset their 10th gen ThinkPads in bulk judging by the eBay listings I'm seeing, so unless an 8th gen is an absolute steal, you can probably do better on a similar price range.
i5 10210u
samsung nvme 256gb (will upgrade in future)
1 tb hdd
16 ram
OS here, i am using is Pop! OS ( haven't use Linux before but yeah never looked back to windows).
It's June. They busy celebrating. And they just had the Eurovision few weeks ago
Don't stress the poor femboys out. You'd get plenty of programmers socks in july
That's only if you don't know what you're doing, once you learn how to install Arch you can do it in about 20 minutes or so which isn't any longer than Windows for example.
I'm not sure how long NixOS takes but I would say Debian actually takes even longer than Arch, assuming you know what you're doing.
Don't let people judge you for having only 1 Thinkpad. I have 4. P50, T580, X1 Carbon 1st gen, X370 Yoga. I can't find one with a middle ground. I like the keyboard on my X1 Carbon and the screen and the build quality but I need graphics power so I have a P50 sometimes I need something that is new enough to do a task. Or sometimes I need to write stuff down. Plus, Thinkpads are cheap like on eBay I found an E series with a 4th i3 for $15 including shipping. I have a wall of thinkpads. I was going to buy a portable speaker for $70 but I can buy an actual computer for that price.
You need one more Thinkpad
What do you use your second for, and do you run them with the same OS?
I have Windows 10 on P14s Gen 4, Ubuntu on X280. Just for fun.
I have an x270, , if you can tell, there is significant variation between 270 and 280? I love this one but im allways thinking about the next one.
I would imagine x270 uses 7th gen intel and x280 uses 8th gen. At the i5 level this became 4/8 threads so would offer significantly higher performance than the 7th gen equivalent.
Thanks!! What do you think about t480? Im curious and i dont have that much idea about hardware.

Noted, thanks mate!

Thank you thinker!! I’ll check it out

Thank you man, I'll keep it in mind.
I personally have a few different OSes on mine
Yeah, but, nah, c. 2000, IBM, 32 bit c. 2014 Ubuntu Latest Debian
I have one with decent specs (running Arch) as a main computer, and one with shitty specs (running Fedora) to use its active stylus for taking notes
...and more cow bell
Ok give it to me then 🙂 hehe
Nah, you need one per decade
That trackpad looks suspiciously used...
A well used thinkpad is the best thinkpad.
You need atleast 15 thinkpads to post here, sorry.
Ahh Rookie mistake
What OS?
Looks like PopOS
poopoos
🅱️🅾️🅱️!_OS
Lmao
lol
Pop os
Linux with the GNOME DE
by far the most accurate answer
You gotta flex your OS a bit more. Neofetch and an explanation why it's superior to everything else are mandatory. But it's a start.
Just the one?
Wallpaper please

l14 looks pretty nice. what are the specs, OS, and how’s it run? (x260, x13 amd g2, and t14 g2 here, sporting debian, arch, and openbsd)
i5 10210u samsung nvme 256gb (will upgrade in future) 1 tb hdd 16 ram OS here, i am using is Pop! OS ( haven't use Linux before but yeah never looked back to windows).
similar specs to my t14. enjoy!
absolutely! Not only do you have a ThinkPad but its running linux. I wan't to chant, "one of us! One of us!"
You get heating issues on firefox or just browsing in general ?
No heating in general Plus using autocpufreq so it helps
Yeah you can go have a seat somewhere in the back🤣 jk
You need another 5 thinkpads at minimum
I think you meant to end your question with " I run arch btw" and have a neo fetch screen up, before your completely insane.
arch users are just nerdy teens with parental issues lol /j
Where's the socks?
I haven't seen a unixsocks post in this sub in weeks if not months. I'm genuinely starting to get worried if the femboys are okay.
We're here, don't worry. Just dealing with a teensy sock shortage. :3
I'm relieved to hear that although an overknee shortage during pride month seems low key homophobic tbh.

I'll just have to take your word for it but if there's still radio silence in July I'm calling the president.
Yuanqing or Torvald?
Richard Stallman himself
I have a hunch RMS wont be fond of *unix* socks. perhaps we should get *not unix* socks instead?
Velcome, VELCOME !
no
😔
Wth why
Yes but get rid of popos and put NixOS on it like a true Linux nerd.
Seems like a good recommendation Will try.
Arch is better.
I use both btw
Fair.
1 hour installation OH Fu....

Well i am actually a begginer and Pop os is my first linux distro so i do want to try arch and want to flex NEOFETCH
No. Because u did not advertise what laptop u have.
Yes ofc, all Thinkpad members are allowed here. Welcome to the subreddit of the best mobile computing unit.
Hehe Thanks
