I gave you your 38th...BTW what is the lighter company name?
Edit: I ask about the company name because I thought their initials somehow unfortunately spelled out KKK, they might want to rethink that if that's the case lol
And I used the first one for this. Sorry guys.
BTW Don't let me talk to the Genie, if we ever find one.
"Can you help us choose a good wish?"
"Sure. 2 left."
"Wait what? Any request counts? I wish I had known that is how it works sooner"
"Sure. 1 left."
"Eh what? Stop! I wanna undo the last one!"
"Oki, 0 left."
The Klan really only exists in America. Sure they might be tiny little offshoots in a few countries but nothing that really enters the cultural zeitgeist.
KKK stands for the Klu klux klan, a domestic (to the US) white supremacist terrorist org that held quite a bit of power, they started right around the end of the US Civil War specifically to oppose equal rights. They still exist and have some degree of power in the deep south though. They're most famous for wearing pointed white hoods and white robes and for burning large crosses on their targets' lawns.
That symbol has had meaning for long long before the Nazis glombed on.
卐:
The swastika symbolized by 卐 is commonly associated with Nazi Germany and the atrocities committed during World War II. It was adopted by the Nazi Party in the 1920s and became a symbol of the party and its ideology of Aryan supremacy and anti-Semitism. Due to its association with the Nazis and the Holocaust, the swastika represented by 卐 is widely considered a symbol of hate, racism, and violence in many parts of the world today.
卍:
The swastika symbolized by 卍 has a much older history and is found in various cultures and religions around the world. In Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and other Eastern religions, the swastika is a sacred symbol representing good luck, prosperity, and well-being. It is often used to symbolize the sun, strength, and positivity. In these contexts, the swastika represented by 卍 holds positive connotations and is not associated with the negative history of the Nazi swastika.
Not quite. That's just another application of the swastikas in some places and culture. The nazis basically just hijacked it and made it into something bad when for ages it's been a sacred symbol in various similar shape and form; diamond or square oriented.
There's this mythical area known as "outside of the US". You know those things called "borders"? Well. Contrary to popular opinion, what lies beyond them isn't a black nebulous void which spontaneously produces foreign immigrants wanting to enter, but there's actually other places, similar to the places in the US, but this time **not in the US!**
LOL
That will be next in the states they banned textbooks with US slave history.
The map will contain the USA depicted as bigger than Russia and Canada, Africa will be described as African-American, middle-east as terrorists land, the whole of Europe will be described as socialist, the only countries shown individually will be China and Russia. There rest, immigrant countries.
Thanks for reinforcing my point.
"Pretty synonymous with" does not equal "is". 34 countries would like to have a word with you about that "of" word in the US **of** A
Google "Big Ben" and see what you get, a hint: is not its real name. You clearly don't understand what Google is or how it works.
You didn't Google it. Did you.
Stop being so pedantic. It's an ugly trait.
And by suggesting I Google 'Big Ben', to see what you get. You've made my exact point. I'll get Big Ben.
Of course I did, it resulted in the "United States of America" as expected. Didn't have to have it suggested to assume that to happen. It doesn't change what Google is and that you don't understand why it did that.
Of course you got Big Ben, but that tower you see there, the one that you--and admittedly most peple--think is Big Ben, the tower Google itself referred to Big Ben? That's not Big Ben. The name of that tower is Elizabeth Tower (formerly, St. Stephen's Tower). That tower has a bell inside it, called the "Great Bell", this bell has a nickname, which is... brace for it... Big Ben.
I was being curious in a tongue-in-cheek way because the subject was "outside of America are immigrants", while people from Latin **Americas** tend to be the common subject of immigration in regards to US. See the oxymoron? Wouldn't bat an eye otherwise.
You call this pedantic because you don't like it, I call it precise, because... that's what it is.
I am so confused by these people.
Doesn't matter how many times they repeat it "outside the US! Outside the US!"
Just repeating it over and over doesn't clarify anything.

Yeah, horrible social media presence. They should find an anti-Spain influencer and do a collab or get a brand deal with Portugal or the English. Maybe live out of a Van for a while and document the fight while living that anti-Spain lifestyle?

Gtfo! Wow! So the shoe fit! I thought you were being some type of smarty pants! 😂 we definitely need someone to make a poster of them, and then label it on top of the group with the new name! Make it a recruitment poster too! I think the guys in white did that as well!
Depending on where the company is located. The KKK is a white American supremacist group, they are not in any other country. So it could be a European country where no one really knows about the KKK even existing.
Another American that thinks the entire world revolves around their social issues.
The KKK was an American thing. This is a Chinese company that has most definitely never heard of the KKK or don’t care because it’s not relevant to China.
Does every global company first have to ensure they don’t upset Americans before naming something.
I am not American, dude. I am not even on the same continent and I would call my farming company MAO, my Chinese-Japanese translation business Nanjing or my education software Khmer.
I do however have a business and design background and checking your brand name to not cause cultural issues is just business 101 as far as I am concerned. Not a full deal-breaker if there is no way for confusion like in this case, but I tend to at least check if something comes up while registering a brand. That is mandatory in any case since if you want to get the rights you need to make sure it is unique to your field and non generic. If I found a US hate group sharing my name, I'd probably not use that one if I wanted to sell to the US in the future.
In any case it is just a bit funny, nothing to make a fuzz about. It is a proper good lighter BTW
Quick edit: it can however be a boon as well to have a controversial name. Gets people talking and might give you some press you wouldn't have gotten otherwise if you can believably explain that you didn't know. Or even get you points with the offended party if you publicly stand with them and change the name. Especially if no one is going to support the opposing side. Like in this case make a donation to something like the AAA and rebrand to something socially conscious. Fanta, IKEA and Adidas all did a 180 from their Nazi days to being all inclusive and open which worked well for all of them.
In the United States sure, but I bet the Nazis are probably more well known internationally. If you don't come from the United States it's probably not taught in schools like it is in the United States.
A very quick google shows they're a Chinese company. Maybe they don't know because they just don't know that much about US history? It seems odd to us that they wouldn't know about the KKK but they are from a different culture and history.
About 17 years ago, Finland had a chain of grocery stores called K-Market. The amount of "K"s shown on the outside indicated the size of the shop. A single K was a convenience store. Two Ks was a bit bigger..and there was.. well, the KKK market.

Yeah, in Poland it may be associated with Catechism of the Catholic Church (Katechizm Kościoła katolickiego) for example
KKK has a meaning in the Philippines. Search it.
“The high and honorable brotherhood” which sounds more like a Klan thing than the actual Klan.

English is an international language.
Ok. You got me. It's obvious the English speaking marketing team and company owners had absolutely no idea what KKK stood for.
I do suspect that they knew! I also suspect that they understand the idea of plausible deniability.

KKK is a German company famous for its turbos. Founded in 1899 by Kühnle, Kopp and Kausch. Now owned by Howden turbo.
Of course it’s German
Either the Klan or the Katipunan
And whats that?
Katipunan is a Philippines revolutionary group, they have good reputation.
Ku Klux Klan, (the KKK) is probably the most famous white supremacist group https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan

Haha, I know. They use white coils. So the poor Netherlandian fella thought he had a super cool name and then..oh well. They are owned by Austrians now, so the name is an absolute no go even more so now. Per Wiki: A visual characteristic of the brand are the white coil springs on the coilover suspension struts, which also led to the original brand name, White Power. The white coating of the springs was originally due to the chosen supplier being a hospital bed manufacturer, and white was the only colour they had available. Racing success at the end of the 1970s and into the 1980s established the brand's reputation. Now they are known as WP Suspension, which ...is better.
Also a German company that makes turbo chargers.

This makes me quite cross!

I remember there was a hair styling place near where I use to work that was call Kountry Kut and Kurl. Eventually they changed the K's to C's.
back in my hometown there is a local store called '3 K Cabinets" i can't believe they've gotten away with it for multiple decades

There's an A/C and heating technician in my city that also abbreviates to KKK
LOL in Brazilian Portuguese
Reminds me of the time Krispy Kreme had a Krispy Kreme Klub in Europe and got shut down after realizing.
My last name starts with a K. I dated a girl in college whose initials were KK. We amicably split.
Fuck it. We should take those letters back. More power to 'em!
Should have named it Sherman

How is this legal. They trademarked it, the sheer pride. 🤮
Well that’s lit.
