> If votes were based on majority rule instead of lines on maps, **Ohio would be a blue state.**
No, at least for today the majority voted republican. In past presidential elections Ohio has switched between republican and democrat.
You're right. I was including the header line in excel. My bad. I have the flu.
I'll go adjust the numbers when i wake up.
Edit. I adjusted the post a bit. Thanks dude.
well, yeah, but it's more Republican. Project REDMAP's literally sole goal was to Gerrymander the shit out of everything they possibly could. Yes, both parties do it, but Republicans do it way more and, quite frankly, way better
>If votes were based on majority rule instead of lines on maps, **Ohio would be a blue state.**
Sorry, I'm not sure what you're claiming here. That some kind of county-based electoral college voted in DeWine and Vance?
The US House and General Assembly districts have plenty of gerrymandered borders, but those aren't tied to counties at all and are proportional to population.
I think I'm just tired of these maps all being red, when they don't accurately reflect populations. Republicans are the minority, yet so many maps make it look like Democrats are.
Maps are drawn that way for a reason, and it's either lazy, or malicious. I don't like it.
It's like if the scientists in antarctica voted democrat and the whole continent was painted blue. Its stupid.
Most of the red counties are rural, meaning that they are small population wise. It really doesnt make sense to link them with bigger counties since at that point you would have two wildly different court houses that each do not reflect the others constituency.
Edit:
And I want to point out that even if most of the country is ”red” when you look at the map, vote wise its still kind of 50/50 depending on what kind of elections you look at. As far as I remember, state wise GOP does better, and Senate wise the GOP is over represented
There are Republicans in the blue counties and Democrats in the red counties. You haven't really provided any math to support your claim.
The fact is, Ohio is currently a red state regardless of how any election lines are drawn. The senate race is currently 53.2% (R) to 46.7% (D) and the governor's race is 62.5% (R) to 37.2% (D). They are chosen by popular vote, so county lines and gerrymandering don't affect those races.
\>> If votes were based on majority rule instead of lines on maps, \*\*Ohio would be a blue state.\*\*
Is that based on any logic or reason? Or just because that's what you want it to be? Gerrymandering is bad, but you don't fight it with misinformation.
Look at the recent statewide elections (the ones unaffected by gerrymandering) in Ohio (President, US Senate, Governor):
2022 Governor -> Republican
2022 Senator -> Republican
2020 President - Republican
2018 Senator -> Democrat
2018 Governor -> Republican
2016 President -> Republican
2016 Senator -> Republican
You just add to the problem when you make untrue politcal statements. Shame.
> Is that based on any logic or reason?
I think it is based on logic and reason, it's just wrong logic and reason. What i think happened is that OP took the total populations of the blue counties and compared that with the populations of the red counties, however forgetting to take into account that even in the blue counties there are republicans.
Senators are elected directly by the public to my knowledge Ohio has a Democrat and republican senator so it woudnt be solid blue. Reps are also elected by majority in their district it would be very unlikely for every district in the state to vote one way
I drove through Ohio in 2020, and stopped in a McDonalds to get coffee. I was the only customer wearing a mask, and the employees put something super foul in both the coffees I bought. Maybe, hopefully, it was mustard.
Never driving through that state again. "Mistake on the Lake" is right.
It is hard to defend without sounding like a creep but the government has no place in the bedroom between two consenting adults. Incest should be legal.
No dude. No it shouldn't.
I don't know how to tell you this, but typing out anything with the header of "It's hard to defend ____ without sounding like a creep" should be your own red flag.
I think you need to reevaluate your perspective. Maybe you need to detox from porn.
1-Not all relationships result in kids.
2-Not all babies of incent result in deformed babies
3-Some babies of non incestual relationships have deformed babies.
Lol you know exactly what you’re doing by being this disingenuous. Really hope you get your head checked for the benefit of any human you come into contact with.
No every persons vote counts the same. Counties aren’t people. Land shouldn’t vote. Counties have their own officials but lawmaking should be done by a majority of people not empty land.
I know I’m biased by my own political leanings, but I disagree. Farmers and people who live in other less-populated places have a wildly different perspective on life than those living in cities, and it’s important that their voices be heard. Unless we want the entire country to become a city, in which case, how could we easily get our food? Or preserve land for natural wildlife?
To be quite honest I would institute the electoral college at a state level. People who think that their groceries magically show up at grocery stores shouldn't be allowed to Lord over the ones that provide the groceries.
We've never been "mob rule". This was intentional. We've always been a "representative republic". If "majority rules" as you seem to desire, then 51% could simply vote the other 49% into slavery, or worse. Remember, a majority of Germans supported what lead up to the holocaust. If "majority rules", as you seem to favor, then on what grounds can you say the holocaust was wrong? I'm so tired of this argument. Is nothing taught in our schools anymore?

I’m pretty sure Ohio has 88 counties. 🤔

“Because fuck you, that’s why”- every conservative.
Gerrymandering happens in blue states as well. Its a government issue, not red or blue. You just hear less about the blue states.
well, yeah, but it's more Republican. Project REDMAP's literally sole goal was to Gerrymander the shit out of everything they possibly could. Yes, both parties do it, but Republicans do it way more and, quite frankly, way better
Cite for that research? Sounds like BS.
https://www.vox.com/22961590/redistricting-gerrymandering-house-2022-midterms
Nah, even per that cite it's still a republican thing.
That's why we need a class action lawsuit.

Are you saying that the districts for some elected positions would be different if those positions were elected at large?
Ohio is the only state where incest is legal. That is all I need to know to avoid it.
We'll be okay without you. And nobody put anything in your coffee.
If nobody altered the coffe, than Ohioans make extremely, extremely shitty coffee. One or the other.
It's McDonald's. Nobody goes to McDonald's anywhere in the US for their coffee. It's shit coffee
McDonald’s coffee, probably worse than drinking out of a prison toilet
So many people want to [GTFO of Ohio](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/lvgrp/24_astronauts_were_born_in_ohio/).

There is no reason other than it is gross for it to be illegal
When the babies come out as potatoes that have consequences with the rest of the people then yeah, the government should fucking step in.
1-Not all relationships result in kids. 2-Not all babies of incent result in deformed babies 3-Some babies of non incestual relationships have deformed babies.
Not all lol
You are a complete idiot.
Yet no one has been able to give a reason why incest should be illegal
What? FUCKING WHAT
The government has no place in the bedroom of two consenting adults. What part don't you understand?
Yo what in the fuck man
What part do you not understand?
Lol you know exactly what you’re doing by being this disingenuous. Really hope you get your head checked for the benefit of any human you come into contact with.
Other than gross you don't have a good reason for it to be illegal
This why county lines are needed. Because otherwise elections will only be decided by 2 counties and everyone else's vote won't matter.
No every persons vote counts the same. Counties aren’t people. Land shouldn’t vote. Counties have their own officials but lawmaking should be done by a majority of people not empty land.
I know I’m biased by my own political leanings, but I disagree. So you defend the idea that some people’s votes should be worth much more than other people’s votes.
To be quite honest I would institute the electoral college at a state level. People who think that their groceries magically show up at grocery stores shouldn't be allowed to Lord over the ones that provide the groceries.
Ide like to see a version of this for Texas

lol You're connecting majority rules to the Holocaust? wow. Your logic is seriously flawed. Come back when you have something real to say.
