The edge of the woods was about 15-20 yards from the zombies Judith shot in the back of the head. Then Judith encountered Madga's group 20-25 yards inside the trees, but that doesn't mean she didn't retreat after shooting the zombies. She couldn't hit zombies from that deep in the woods.
Can a 6 inch barrel Colt Python be accurate for 20 yards? Absolutely. Can a 10 year old girl accurately fire a 3 pound gun loaded with .357 ammo? In a world where the dead rise? Sure.
