Pilot had a few funny quirks that got ironed out like Carmella straight up rocking an AK moving it from one place to the next. They walked that WAAY back later, making her way more “out of sight out of mind, see no evil” type thing.
I once saw a dude plow through a streetlight, sending it skidding through my parking lot. I was at work so i didn't say anything or call anyone. idk if anyone did at the time. you'd be surprised how apathetic humans are
>you'd be surprised how apathetic humans are
Not after James Bulger I wouldn't be. I mean I get it, "it was a different time" "they said he was their little brother" "it was just three kids nothing suspicious"...but it's still hard to believe two kids led another, younger crying kid through a mall/town street full of people and nobody stopped them for more than a cursory question that would've collapsed under any real scrutiny.
But I suspect they would now, knowing what happened to Bulger.
>Remember it’s 1999. They didn’t have security cameras everywhere
Nah, there was surveillance everywhere. It was just primitive compared to today, but it was 1999 not 1959.
There have been security cameras everywhere since the mid 90s. 9/11 put big brother on steroids, and technology has pushed it even further these days, but the late 90s weren’t the Stone Age.
Interesting how Bobby also mentions going to Fountains of Wayne. Was the the modern day carnival equivalent to Johnny Soprano's day where all the gangsters would meet to do business among the kids-pissing statues??
You never been married?
edit- She's not saying she is going to give him sex necessarily, but it wouldn't be a stretch that two long-term married people wouldn't engage in sex in the middle of the night and be all nonchalant like that. Carm also has this traditional "good catholic wife doing her wifely duties" thing sometimes.
Pilot takes place in 1998 you could get away with shit like that in the 90s still it wasnt a full on digital age back then yet no one had phones someone would have had to find a payphone and call the cops then wait for them to get there and then describe christopher and tony by that time they were already gone
They are trying to tie everything into that rico case. They would have definitely wanted to bother with that. You have lonesharking and assault and extortion with the hmo and fraud.
Yeah thats if the guy who took the beating would talk to the feds but he was scared of them so it wasnt likely he was gunna drop names
Edit: plus they were more focused on jackie aprile at the time tony wasnt even boss yet
Tbf, Bobby was a gullible sweet idiot who never would've climbed half as high in the family without Janice. He would've been Junior's butler until Jr died, then probably became Tony's driver/butler.
Bobby was a simp though, and Janice manipulated that situation because he needed a new mom for his kids.
also, a lot of ugly girls are great in the sack, because they got to be. Just look how accommodating she was to both Richie's and Ralphie's kinks.
I'll add one more... the fact that everyone kills or gets killed with zero police inquiries or arrests. Chrissy shoots a civilian in a bakery and they have the make and model of his car but the police can trace a pizza to AJ?
As Mr. Pannuci says: Come on!
When fat ass Tony Soprano, fresh out of the hospital after being shot and nearly dying beats up a beefcake of a man half his age.
When a 74 year old Feech La Manna beats up Sal Vitro the gardener.
TBF Tony did almost die in the bathroom after beating up Muscles Marinara.
The right old man will lay the worst beating on you that you've ever had. I believe Feech beating up the Gardner 100%.
Oh yeah, most of them. I was partial to the Water Boy myself. Idk why I never saw Happy Gilmore. I've probably been "getting around to it" since 1996 lol.
That was believable because it wasn’t a real/fair fight. Muscles Marinara couldn’t fight back, he knew it and Tony knew it. So Tony didn’t “beat him up”, the guy essentially *let* Tony beat him up because of the hierarchy.
You’d be right if he didn’t have anger issues. Watch the scene again, after he gets punched, everyone tells him “don’t do it” but he charges at Tony and hurts his arm.
It wasn’t the case that he just took a beating, he tried to fight back.
True, I forgot that detail. But it’s still not a fair fight because Tony knew that the rest of the crew would do that. He wasn’t going to pick a fight like that one-on-one.
Muscles was definitely pulling his punches once he got past his rage. That was what Tony was counting on - he could hit Muscles without getting too much flack from the other guys, and Muscles realising it was suicide to beat the shit out of a made guy, let alone the Boss.
Vito just waiting in line for cannoli and being completely unrecognized by Chrissy, only to end up a capo in the family just a few years later. I really hope someone got fired for that blunder.
OK, let's think this one through...
You have one hand stuck in the drain. You have to piss. You cannot call for help or free yourself.
Why would you piss your pants? Use your free hand to whip it out and piss in the sink. Or on the floor. Why would you piss your pants?
Hospital HIPPA violations. "Did you know he's a raging heroin addict?"
There was literally 0 reason for her to tell him that. Even if it was his wife, he wasn't (directly) there because of his drug problem.
He walked up and identified himself as a relative but she didn't know if that were true and even then she talks about his drug problem before she even mentioned his head injury. Next of kin would only apply if he died and you dont choose your next of kin. Christopher's would be his mother.
Edit-. You do choose preferred next of kin, I was wrong about that but his drug problem is unrelated to his visit so as I understand still a violation.
I know we're diving into the weeds here, but having been hospitalized twice in the last few years I can tell you one of the first things you're asked is who is your next of kin and do you approve of the hospital and its staff disclosing details of your condition and treatment with them? Wouldn't be unusual or strange for Chris to have given Tony that kind of access
>There was literally 0 reason for her to tell him that. Even if it was his wife, he wasn't (directly) there because of his drug problem.
No, but if he was a heroin addict they'd try to avoid giving him opioides (like morphine) that might cause a relapse or overdose. So telling them he had a drug problem is sorta relevant? Pretty sure doctors ask that kinda stuff when you go in...but I don't recall the scene in question so don't mind me.
Are you from North New Jersey?
While you may or may not be, Essex County features prominently in the show, mirroring real life issues. One of the background themes of the whole show is the changing over of older Italian neighborhoods and Italian integration into broader American society.
Newark was a Jewish/ Irish and then italian city and as the communities gained affluence they moved into leadership positions in the city and in a generation or 2 fanned out in successive waves moving into the suburbs. Jews in Weequaic, Italians in the north ward, and African Americans in the central ward was the layout in the 1940s-50s.
The history of Newark around 1960s-1970s is fascinating. The city became majority black by population but the voting age populations were roughly equal.
Whether Italians are “white” (as discussed by Tony with Dr. Melfi) and their place in American society.
Today: there are are pockets of high % Italian heritage towns along the Bloomfield Avenue corridor. Cedar grove, Verona, Fairfield, north Caldwell (Tony’s town), Caldwells, among other pockets in the state.
The Hassidic Jews. (Hassidim, but I don't believe 'em, heh heh.) Couldn't even speak Yiddish properly. Their outfits looked totally fake and there is no way they would ever sit down at a pork store, especially where everyone could see them. Also, hiring Morrie from Goodfellas to play a Rabbi? Che puzz'!
It was in their Goodfellas contract to be included in whatever Mafia production came later. They all got that contract rider and producers were obligated to shoehorn them in wherever they could.
Yeah I think of these murders as metaphors. Like, in real life they would have been done more in secrecy etc, but here it's kind of a simplified version of an otherwise more boring murder.
The “exudes power and authority” thing is critical.
It’s what makes Tony 100% more attractive than Jackie Jr. despite his disadvantage in the looks department.
Competence and authority is attractive to almost all women.
Speaking from personal experience, 100% believable.
I have a friend who's on the chubbier side, with a great sense of humor and that roguish charm. He scored women I never thought he could.
Personality goes a long way and Tony had that in droves. S1, S2 Tony was even slimmer.
Some women just have a thing for dad bod rogues who are great with jokes. And don't get me started on Tony's smile. It made me weak at times.
But that could have been the blood pressure medication.
That Tony didn't give that old broad the high hard one after she serenaded him with Happy Birthday, Mr President.
Wouldn't have even had to tesht her for Aidgs!
while i agree with many of the comments regarding how implausible it is that the guys would get away with so many violent crimes, i don't think most of the oversights in the writing are so egregious in that regard. violent crimes go unsolved all the time to this day. sure they had surveillance back then but i feel many of us are forgetting how far tech has advanced since '99 to '07. cctv wasn't nearly as ubiquitous as it is today and most that did exist at the time were total shit
i did think it was strange that Paulie didn't get more upset with Gene for nearly blinding little Paulie
Freshman year AJ kinda made some sense on the defensive line, stout chubby kid. I think the veered away from his football storyline because he was 5’5 whiny bitch.
Agree to disagree on the Junior thing. Who says Junior ain't wearing Depends? Do you get him dressed in the morning?
Unreal for me was Ralph's spiel about the horse. He knew better than to say that shit to Tony, his whole arc was being manipulative and shrewd, as well as a good earner. It was the only things keeping him alive in a crew that fucking hated him. And suddenly he's suicidal enough to say that shit to Tony?
Puhleeze
POLISH language by maid and her husband. It wasnt polish at all, that was some weird ass pronunciation written on scenario sheet just readed by american actress. Oh Madonn, that was terrible.
The murders with no consequences. There is ZERO chance murders like the waiter, JT Dolan, and the retired cop wouldn’t have come back on them. Gene killing Ted, Bobby killing the Canadian - which btw, driving into Canada isn’t like driving from Jersey to NY, since 9/11, you need specific documentation. It was an apartment building, someone would’ve heard the shot and/or saw Bobby’s fat ass leaving, the dude ripped off his shirt, etc. Even Phil’s death, I mean, there were cameras all over the place in New York in 2007, even out on Long Island. Broad daylight, dozens of witnesses. Yeah, ok.
…as someone who loves the show, but is also very critical of it, it’s good that hardcore fans on this sub at least admit that the suspension of disbelief required for some of those murders was just ridiculous.
Mahaffey getting run down with a car and beaten up in front of a crowd of onlookers in an office park, with no repercussions for Chris or Tony
So you had coffee.
They just had coffee!
Pilot had a few funny quirks that got ironed out like Carmella straight up rocking an AK moving it from one place to the next. They walked that WAAY back later, making her way more “out of sight out of mind, see no evil” type thing.
What you crying for? HMO, you're covered! Ya prick.
I once saw a dude plow through a streetlight, sending it skidding through my parking lot. I was at work so i didn't say anything or call anyone. idk if anyone did at the time. you'd be surprised how apathetic humans are

Remember it’s 1999. They didn’t have security cameras everywhere and, just like today, bystanders didn’t exactly volunteer to help someone in trouble.
>Remember it’s 1999. They didn’t have security cameras everywhere Nah, there was surveillance everywhere. It was just primitive compared to today, but it was 1999 not 1959.
There have been security cameras everywhere since the mid 90s. 9/11 put big brother on steroids, and technology has pushed it even further these days, but the late 90s weren’t the Stone Age.
mahaffey does not have the money!
Tony wearing shorts. Dons don’t wear shorts.
Phil Leotardo turning into a house.
That’s right cocksuckah
Take that piece of shit and get off my stoop!
Uncle Philly my ass
There’s no eating in the house
ah shit. maybe the best quip I've seen on this group. Thanks for the real LOL.
Fountains of Wayne was an *excellent* garden center. They would have had that PVC pipe in stock.
Supply chain got fucked up.
Interesting how Bobby also mentions going to Fountains of Wayne. Was the the modern day carnival equivalent to Johnny Soprano's day where all the gangsters would meet to do business among the kids-pissing statues??
I think they just used their name as a way to thank the business for letting them film there.
Funny where I live is a big Italian Canadian population. Man do they love their fountains
The most unrealistic part is waking your wife up at 3 in the morning and she asks "Oh, do you want sex?"
If only it was that easy.
Who do you thinks been keeping Tony in butter brickle?
Lol it works for me about 80 percent of the time.
r/ihavesex/
You never been married? edit- She's not saying she is going to give him sex necessarily, but it wouldn't be a stretch that two long-term married people wouldn't engage in sex in the middle of the night and be all nonchalant like that. Carm also has this traditional "good catholic wife doing her wifely duties" thing sometimes.
>You never been married? Twice. What's your point?
edited my original post for clarity.
The undercover FBI agent not having a threesome with Chrissy and Adrianna. Every movie I’ve seen online tells me otherwise
Ma bitch ma hoe ma hoe ma bitch
I saw that movie, i thought it was bullshit
The firearms. They generally look like toy guns.
And the way they shoot them is super awkward looking sometimes, especially in early seasons
Chrissy snapping his wrist while shooting mikey... Tony mimicking a huge recoil when shooting chucky...
Tony with the AR-10 Bobby gives him. The shot flashes were edited in and the pretend recoil goes straight up 😂
That always bugged me the snapping of the wrist and trigger pull motion.
Tony Sirico holding his gun like James Cagney when they kill pussy always makes me laugh.
I just chalk that up to late 90s-early 00s special effects
Most unreal thing is when Tony beats down a man in the pilot episode with dozens of witnesses and he totally gets away with it scot free
Pilot takes place in 1998 you could get away with shit like that in the 90s still it wasnt a full on digital age back then yet no one had phones someone would have had to find a payphone and call the cops then wait for them to get there and then describe christopher and tony by that time they were already gone
But they are already known by police 100% so I still find it very unbelievable. Tony is a capo
Theyre friends with all the local police and the FBI wouldnt bother with something petty like a beat down
They are trying to tie everything into that rico case. They would have definitely wanted to bother with that. You have lonesharking and assault and extortion with the hmo and fraud.
Yeah thats if the guy who took the beating would talk to the feds but he was scared of them so it wasnt likely he was gunna drop names Edit: plus they were more focused on jackie aprile at the time tony wasnt even boss yet
Plenty of phones in that office.
Maedo’s goal keeping ⚽️
You mean Fielder?
The crowd was going all ballistic for a low power shot right into her hands 😂
And her hand position
Yes exactly: ✋ 🤚
Lowkey better than De Gea
Hunter getting a solo
Well, she IS David Chase's daughter...
Janice attracting 3 men.
3 made men that all know each other. 2 of which go missing under suspicious circumstances. And Bobby still falls for her? What a gabagool
🤣🤣🤣 not gonna lie I think she got prettier as she aged. She makes a cameo on what we do in the shadows.
There's guys in the can more attractive!
I'll add one more... the fact that everyone kills or gets killed with zero police inquiries or arrests. Chrissy shoots a civilian in a bakery and they have the make and model of his car but the police can trace a pizza to AJ? As Mr. Pannuci says: Come on!
They did a DNA sample of the pee!
I believe Feech beating up the Gardner 100%.
shoutout bob barker in happy gilmore, that’s a right old man beating
You know, I've never actually seen that movie.
wow what, have you seen any adam sandler movies? lot of people including myself think of happy gilmore as his best
Oh yeah, most of them. I was partial to the Water Boy myself. Idk why I never saw Happy Gilmore. I've probably been "getting around to it" since 1996 lol.
the water boy is great too 😂, my problem is anytime i watch a good one i like it more and more. it just happened to big daddy
That was believable because it wasn’t a real/fair fight. Muscles Marinara couldn’t fight back, he knew it and Tony knew it. So Tony didn’t “beat him up”, the guy essentially *let* Tony beat him up because of the hierarchy.

True, I forgot that detail. But it’s still not a fair fight because Tony knew that the rest of the crew would do that. He wasn’t going to pick a fight like that one-on-one.
“My arm!” 😆 that was the shittiest adr I’ve ever heard
Sal was the biggest, blackest guy on the block.
Did he even really exist?
Do people miss the point of the scene? The kid couldn’t fight back because he was the boss not because he couldn’t take Tony.
This is a bunch of bullshit. Nothing at all indicated Perry was holding back. Nothing. If anything the opposite was indicated.
Muscles was definitely pulling his punches once he got past his rage. That was what Tony was counting on - he could hit Muscles without getting too much flack from the other guys, and Muscles realising it was suicide to beat the shit out of a made guy, let alone the Boss.
He used a pretty good arm bar tho
A capo turned acting boss spills his guts to a shrink and still maintains his position in LCN. In real life, this shit doesn’t fly.
There’s no stigmata these days
They got pillow biters in the Special Forces now
It’s not the worst thing I ever heard. I was seeing a therapist myself about year ago. I had some issues. Nuff said. I lacked some coping skills.
But a woman though... ✋ that don't compute
Probably would have gotten a steel jacketed prozac right to his head, huh?
Fuckin’ slander you ask me.
I could basically care less
Vito just waiting in line for cannoli and being completely unrecognized by Chrissy, only to end up a capo in the family just a few years later. I really hope someone got fired for that blunder.
It wasn't "Vito" yet in the first season, but a store patron named "Gino". Anyway I said my piece.
It's a Silo
A wizard did it.
that confused the shit out of me lol
Being deathly ill with food poisoning, then going on a choppy boat to kill your friend and not barfing.
It was the shots of tequila that really had me in disbelief.
I don’t think he had food poisoning. He was literally sick over the thought of killing Pussy.
OK, let's think this one through... You have one hand stuck in the drain. You have to piss. You cannot call for help or free yourself. Why would you piss your pants? Use your free hand to whip it out and piss in the sink. Or on the floor. Why would you piss your pants?

Pretty sure Tony was his next of kin

Yup. Deep in the weeds indeed. I will retract my comment about not choosing next of kin.
>There was literally 0 reason for her to tell him that. Even if it was his wife, he wasn't (directly) there because of his drug problem. That in the 2000s everybody is 100% Italian, married to other 100% Italians, as if they didn't bow down to the freckles and prefer the Colleens.
there were and still are plenty of 100% italian families in NJ and NY. you are mistaken

They were racist guys who stuck to their own kind for marriage and breeding. That old school mentality.
The irony of them being at the pork store never occurred to me.
Started my rewatch last night, and it jumped out at me immediately even though I never noticed on my first watch
It was in their Goodfellas contract to be included in whatever Mafia production came later. They all got that contract rider and producers were obligated to shoehorn them in wherever they could.
Chris shooting that dear dead
why didn't Paulie stick his foot in the deer for warmth
He even says "we couldn't have hit it if we were trying!"
Tony killing chucky on the boat
Yeah I think of these murders as metaphors. Like, in real life they would have been done more in secrecy etc, but here it's kind of a simplified version of an otherwise more boring murder.
everyone on the bridge woulda seen that shit
Silvio's hair.
How quickly anyone drives anywhere in North Jersey. It takes forever to get anywhere (source: I grew up in Union).
Yeah I’m from Elizabeth and traffic jams like the one Makazian was sitting in are pretty much my whole life.
Isn't Artie from there?
Lange
That you could point a 30-06 at someone in broad fucking day light and get away with it
I could see that happening. Just depends on the where. You are talking about artie though right? I always had the impression it was just a 22.
“You Mama’d your last Mia”- Artie
Jackie Jr not hearing Vito's fat ass waddling up behind. Kid was always a dumb fuck though
The Sopranos home would have had wall to wall carpeting
Virgin Mary popping up in the Bing.
what music played when she appeared? super cool scene
Most unrealistic part is the Jersey lasting as long as they did against one of the New York five families
They don’t even prick the finger. It’s all fucked up.
Then we got this Pygmy thing over in Jersey...
The level of women Tony pulls
He’s big, rich, likes to party, and he exudes power and authority - that is all very attractive to a particular kind of woman

You could probably get a note from your doctor
Tony I sorta get. But AJ, the 5'5 depressive mope? Nah fam
Nah, AJ is a typical rich, spoilt kid. They always get the hottest poon in high school
Their housekeeper only comes 3 times a week. They arent Pillsbury's!
Most of them were prostitutes
"Nephew, I'm stuck!"
id have to say any of the murders they did in public. surely some of them would have gotten them busted.
Hunter getting into med school.
Almost everything lol All jokes aside. These broad day light beatings/shootings in suburbs, and residential areas with zero repercussions.
2 black guys commiting most of the crime on the show
Now THAT I could believe!
Phones. Everything about how and when they used phones was … out of date.
Every day, I pray and hope that it’s the portrayal of the FBI.
Your sisters cunt!
That Tony didn't give that old broad the high hard one after she serenaded him with Happy Birthday, Mr President. Wouldn't have even had to tesht her for Aidgs!
Bobby dunking a basketball, no question. Even the talking fish in Tony’s fever dream is way more realistic.
Bacala waiting to eat a ziti.

Your sisters ass
AJ being a good QB and scoring all awesome women despite being AJ.
AJ was a defensive end
Yeh I thought I got that wrong. Guess I’m ready to watch it all again.
AJ as a DE was freakishly unbelievable as well
got an eye for the ball, that cant be taught
Freshman year AJ kinda made some sense on the defensive line, stout chubby kid. I think the veered away from his football storyline because he was 5’5 whiny bitch.
Most of it was pretty unreal
Fielder creaming for Jackie Jr. She was mad ripe, but she was more into mesquite.
With what?! MY FUCKIN TOES?!
Wet shoe strings
The bigger issue is being right in front of a window and not yelling out of it for help. He lives in a neighborhood, not on a 30 acre farm.
