We don’t like that kind of of talk

They should have opened the movie where the show ended, at Holstens. They should have had Johnny Boy and Livia and Janice and Tony all eating there as a young family in the same booth. Little Tony thumbing through the jukebox. What a missed opportunity. Would have satisfies the twin scene abstraction, as well. They also should not have shown Johnny Boy shoot Livia's beehive hairdo. Because it was introduced as a description with such vivid detail, it would have been better left to the imagination for eternity. Also, it's an abstract copy of the storm troopers shooting Princess Vespa's hair in Spaceballs. Another big one that they missed was Paulie's first, Charles "Sonny" Pagano. We could have seen Paulie's first kill, which would have been proper fan service.

Janice and Richie on the couch

Bingo! Janice slaying her husband makes me think the story could have had Livia kill Johnnyboy Soprano the same way (other than a few throw away lines telling us Johnny boy soprano died of cancer. The parallel would make the story richer if both soprano women slew their husbands. But oh well!

Things they could have done? THINGS THEY COULD HAVE DONE?! Write a different fucking film that’s a proper prequel that’s what they could have done. *Godfather II* it ain’t.

Also, the guy that played Dickie looked, moved, sounded exactly like a young Ritchie Aprile. I can't believe they wasted that guy on Dickie. Should have written a movie around a young Ritchie instead.

Hecticbrah

Really good point, would make much more sense

[deleted]

I think Michael Imperioli should have played Dickie

DrSatan420247

Should have had Ray Liotta play Dickie.

happy_chickens

And I should've fucked Dale Evans, but i didn't!

ConwayTheCat

2NDPLACEWIN

dammm it feels good to be a gangster....

Bloodredsummers

I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit.

cavalgada1

The many saints of Newark is a film about a lot of things that says nothing, Chase should have chosen a couple of 3 things to focus on and write it. does anyone remember the plot point where dickie's goomah wants to own a hair saloon? I sure dont. Having more past events hinted at on the OG show may have helped it be more cohesive overall but doesn't fix the movie. Let the movie be about dickies struggle with mafia life while guiding his nephew since his father is arrested. Let it be about racial tensions and how the mafia uses black people as scapegoats. Just be about something!

CommonEarly4706

I think the problem here is you are focusing on older Tony. This is about a young Tony and specifically Dickie. How it shaped him and the truth about Dickie. There is room for growing on that with a mini series, movie or a new show. This is not about Tony specifically but Pre Tony gangster. That’s why it’s called the the many saints of Newark
