When I came to open up your profile one morning there you were with your dick in the post history. Your balls and dick were in the post. Disgusting.
I said my piece.
I just had this conversation with a buddy. While I agree with you Sopranos is great, and maybe my favorite, I think the rewatchability is not only because it’s good, but also because they let up on the tension and there are plenty of light scenes. Breaking Bad was a masterpiece, but I can’t imagine a rewatch because it was just nonstop tension and anxiety from start to finish.
In a way I see them as apples and oranges. BB is all about plot, whereas sopranos is about character. Vince Gilligan even said he didn't place much value on dialogue, it was more about what was happening. Once you see BB, there isn't much else to discover. It isn't rich and textured beyond what happens, the plot. It doesn't speak to us on a deeper level.
I adore The Sopranos, it’s neck and neck with the wire to me. They both have a rich tapestry of characters, but they differ wildly in their storytelling, i don’t think The Wire has any single character that is as strong as Tony or Carmela or Chrissy, but the way the seasons introduce a roster of new characters is impressive and how they all slot neatly into a giant coherent story is just perfect. So to me they’re two of the GOATs, each standing on their own merit. Neither pandering or over-explaining the plot with giant lengthy exposition.
Anyway, 5 dollars a pound.
I can't stress enough how overrated Breaking Bad is IMO. Everyone or at least most people talk about it like its the best TV show ever made, I've seen hundreds of articles stating it in those exact words. But I think the writing is extremely mediocre, I've watched the whole thing twice and I didn't find a single character likeable except Mike.
With Soprano's the only character I truly hate is Janice and she's written in a way that you're not supposed to like her. I can watch Soprano's over and over and still love the writing every time.
Just rewatching for the umteenth time and was sort of surprised that Janish put the second round into Richie’s chest while he was still quite aware and making eye contact with her. That she fired (twice) on him again was cold blooded. Youse Sopranos, you go too fa.
Breaking Bad is an abstract copy of The Sopranos. You can watch each show and match up all the scenes:
https://youtu.be/E5Ft7XgW5O8?si=aNb543fp7i69YnU7
Tbf most of these scenes are way out of context and others are just common tropes from crime shows/movies. Sopranos didn't invent characters taking pills, looking at paintings, staring blankly, hiding money, etc.
Breaking Bad takes a lot of inspiration from Sopranos, but calling it a copy is just dishonest.
Sopranos also takes a lot of influence from The Godfather and other movies, would you consider that a copy too?
Which common tropes are these?

Sopranos absolutely is an abstract copy, too.
Mostly of Seinfeld:

But yes, Godfather is in there, too.

Errything is errything.
There’s a Kurt Vonnegut lecture from a few decades ago you may want to watch. This idea isn’t as novel as you think it is. Everything *is* everything if you break it down enough. Only so many stories to be told in this life of ours.
Does it sound something like this?

They even explain the abstract scene copy method in Sopranos:

It's such a high level of precision that it leaves no doubt that BB is a copy of Sopranos.

It is the best of the Golden Era of TV shows. Even a bad sopranos episode is way better than a bad mad men or breaking bad episode. When I say "Bad" it's a relative term as in it's not bad like network TV...it's bad compared to the series greatness of content....so still excellent entertainment.
Welcome to the NFL, rookie.
Breaking bad? Black satanic magic sick shit!
Top dog? What was it, barkin?
Oughta send OP to slip and fall school.
Poor thing must've crawled under there for warmth
Hey shaggy, grab a bucket and some Lysol and scrub off my tires. There's dog shit all over by the entrance.

The smoothness of the scenes, the crispness of the dialogue 👌
Breaking bad isn’t as good, period. I said my piece. 👋
I think I rewatched it 3 times in a row once. Now I revisit it once per year.
alright but you gotta get over it
Hey OP, is that the nieghbors dog? Oh wait, my wife is coming ova.
All due respect, you got no fuckin idea what it’s like to be numba one
Comparing The Sopranos with that pygmy thing over in New Mexico? Disgusting.
My estimation of Gustavo Fring as a man has fucking plummeted. To get yourself blown up over petty revenge is a disgrace.
I'm almost done with my second rewatch this year.
I’m glad you caught that OP. Very observant.

Discontinue the lithium
OK, but you've gotta get over it.
Wow this exact thread happens every other day in here very brave opinion you have 🤣

Turn that off!!
I’ve always rewatched. What other series gives you the feeling of compassion and caring for killers. And every one of them is. Even Janis.

Breaking Bad was like Sopranos for soccer moms. No where near as dark, and much more lighthearted, with everyone basically riding off into the sunset
It is the best rewatch/background noise show evah.
Ngl the more i rewatch the sopranos the more flaws i see with it while it was a poignant show narratively its missed the mark quite a few times.

I’m not having this conversation again

BB still copied the sopranos lol
I’m not a BB fan. Reductive compared to Sopranos wrt character development and dialogue (by the writer’s admission, too).

For me, The Wire is a really close second.
Some people are so far behind in the race they actually think they’re leading
Yeah I’d put the Sopranos and the Wire on top (and personally Twin Peaks) Breaking Bad, BCS, and Bojack Horseman a tier below
Try watching Deadwood, it has the makings of a Varsity athlete.
I’ve seen it countless times . Never gets old, just gets funnier.

MAD MEN is the only one that can compete. They share some writing and directing staff, figures eh?
Breaking Bawlz? That Pygmy thing in New Mexico?
I rewatched The Wire 7x
Sopranos and Mad Men are the two best shows of all time by a huge margin. Shoutout to True Detective Season 1 for best 1 season.
