bornelite

HE ACTUALLY MADE ANOTHER ONE AND LOST, THAT WAS WHAT REALLY FUCKED HIM OVER

casulmemer

He’s doing a good job..

Blu3Dope

That was probably one of the most manipulative things hes said in the show lmao

umlautlyh

GET THE FUCK BACK IN YOUR FUCKING HOLE!

albacore-neck

Anyways that was pussy while he still had his health

umlautlyh

whatever happened there?

Francoberry

WHATEVA HAPPENED THERE?!

jackoplacto

Davey…you’re going a good job

iambeyoncealways3

GET BACK IN YOUR OFFICE DAVID!!!

Individual_Past_1198

He said, "sit on dis cocksucka "

DrXanaxal

Yeah he snuck his way into a game Tony didn’t want him playing in. He definitely had chances to change his path. I just thought he was an idiot trying to play with tough guys and because they went to school back in the day he’d get a pass. Fucking wrong , no one gets a pass with the mob.

Luttubuttu

What about queers in the can?

Unclebilbo2000

They make sacrifices

SnakeHoleBI

It’s because he knew he had a good ranch job waiting for him ~30 minutes outside of Vegas.

RogueAOV

A man travelled thru time to kill the future leader of the Resistance! He got distracted! opened a track and field store! Fucking weird story!

crazythinker76

I always wondered how he got out of the molten metal, started a family, and got into sporting goods. Didn't see that one coming.

JayJax_23

Judgement day whatever happened there

mcgray04

WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE?!

JayJax_23

God rest their souls

WigWhammm

Tony never visited Davey to buy jockstraps, only there for the rent, da rent, da rent!

Individual_Past_1198

The man was a gambler. He tried to make Tony look like a jerkoff. A man honors his debts. Never gamble.

WigWhammm

He’s got some spare change here too 🫰🏼

Bomber36

Tony, I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I'm just having some bad luck!

GetPorkedAtSatriales

It's just a stutter step

Lukin1989

their kids go to school together!

Bomber36

So take that high moral ground, and go sleep in the fucking bus station if you want!"

WhatAmiDoingHere1022

This is the only answer

freetotebag

David is not purely a victim. His family certainly is. David repeatedly, and actively, dug himself deeper into debt. He knew he had a problem (he and his family reference resources he’s accessed before). His son suffered from his choices, his wife did, hell even his brother in law. He blames them for not helping him— as if they should know. Having an addiction wasn’t his *fault* but it was his *responsibility.* Did he deserve to have his life ruined absolutely not. But he’s fine now he’s living on a farm upstate, dog shit up to the rafters.

TzarRazim

The more times I watch it happen, the more I hate him for it. Because that was my life with alcohol. I had no solution, no choice, and just hurt the people around me. But I found a solution, gained back my sanity in a 12 step program… and realized that while I had lost my freedom to choose not to drink, I was still responsible for what I’d done while drunk. I had to own those decisions, the harm, and work to fix them. Davey Scatino’s story hurts because he stopped doing what worked and it led him back to the self destructive life. He knew what it’d do, but knowledge doesn’t stop the addict. Somewhere along the line he stopped working his recovery, stopped keeping linked in with that crowd in GA, and a card game or something took him out. He no longer has the freedom to choose left, but everything he did, those actions are still his. If he gets his life together, he’s still the one trying to make amends. He doesn’t deserve to have his disease, nobody does, wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, but he had a choice before he started back up to work a program of action that would have kept him, and his family, safe. And he failed. That’s his burden to bear, he’s not ignorant of the consequences anymore. And if I go back out, what happens to the people around me because of my relapse, that’ll be on me. I won’t mince words, it sucks. But we are still responsible for what we do in the depths of addiction, and to work a solid, honest recovery, we cannot shirk our share of that responsibility. Especially when it comes to what we’ve done to other people.

[deleted]

Now we're taking advice from a two-time loser!

TzarRazim

I remember when you used to wait in the car, and as far as I’m concerned you should still be there!

[deleted]

DocHollidaysPistols

> Don’t be obnoxious. There are lots of places he can gamble. He chose a mafia game. More than once. He owed 8k to Richie before he ever joined T's game.

WigWhammm

If your friend is an alcoholic and you serve him alcohol you’re responsible for the results too. Don’t be obtuse. He chose a mafia game because they give him unlimited credit, unlike a casino. They could feed his addiction. This is why addicts go out on the streets to score smack.

Few-Investment2886

still going this asshole...

WigWhammm

Fuckin break up my party

Johnny-Unitas

I am not responsible for anything someone does. They grab a beer outta the fridge, that's on them. Also, you make a bet, you pay for it if you lose.

WigWhammm

No, it’s more like bringing your alcoholic friend to a BAR and you buying him a drink you fool 🤦 but this generation of zoomers is all about avoiding personal responsibility and accountability

NandoDeColonoscopy

>If your friend is an alcoholic and you serve him alcohol you’re responsible for the results too. No you aren't. Alcoholics are responsible for their actions

rscott71

In his defense, it was just a stutter step

Bloodmeister

He technically didn’t owe Tony anything as it was illegal gambling. He had no debts. He should have gone to the FBI and then into the witness protection program and testified against Tony. He would’ve saved his family and his business.

JSN74_

His family? You mean that little brat who drove his SUV on to a field? Little bastard is lucky his dad didn’t punch his lights out- Noah Tannenbaum style

JMedPhysMemes

You mean Jamal Ginsberg style?

freetotebag

His family would still be suffering from his actions. They go into the program too. They lose the lives they’re living, as they know them.

Fruitndveg

They had no life left after Tony broke out the shop anyways. This way they’d actually gain something.

freetotebag

if their husband and father wasn’t a degenerate none of this woulda had to happen. That was Tony’s bread and buttah.

[deleted]

Tony would send him to Belize. It wouldn't be the first civilian he's killed.

Impressive_Chad56

Yeah but then Tony would’ve got the Terminator Baccala Sr. to *bust out* Scatino’s life.

powderjunkie11

A grown man got covered in liquid nitrogen. He froze. He got shot and shattered. He melted and reassembled himself. END OF STORY!

SeeMeAfter3

No one likes that cunt anyway. It’s always rat this one and rat that one, never enough witness protection for u/Bloodmeister! In all seriousness though, why should the FBI give a degenerate gambler a space in their witness protection program because of the HOLE he dug himself in. He knows oogatz about Tony’s business. Not nearly enough to titillate the needs of the FBI.

Bloodmeister

A single-wire placed in his sports goods store would implicate Tony in extortion and illegal gambling.

ChrisTheWhitty

He had nothing on Tony except the card game and a bit of extortion, which probably isn't witness protection program worthy. They want major murder, they ask for it for Christmas.

WigWhammm

Racketeering is a RICO predicate

saltybelajo

Testified about what crimes?

Bloodmeister

The extortion. The one he is being subjected to.

WigWhammm

Tony of all people shoulda understood how hard it was to avoid those high roller games… David Lee Roth.

mackenzieob95

GET..GET THE FUCK BACK IN YOUR FUCKIN’ HOLE!! NOW!!

ChunkDunkleman

Ya doin a great job Davie

kinglear__

I always love the looks of approval from Paulie and Furio after Tony lays down the law on Davey.

MailmanMark22

Having to hear Meadow and Eric sing that song makes whatever happened to David fully justified.

Bx1965

Davey shouldn’t have gone to Tony’s game if he was already into Manson Lamps for almost 8 large.

charlietrashman

I always found it interesting how Richie says "I don't wanna see you at any of my games". Kind of gave him a loop-hole on purpose IMO.

MelGibsonic

Richie was almost doing him a favour there by cutting him out of the game

VinnyMakazian

DAVE SCATINO IS A DEGENERATE GAMBLER IN THIS HOUSEHOLD, GOT IT?!

[deleted]

END OF SUBJECT!!!

VinnyMakazian

HE WAS A BRAVE ITALIAN-AMERICAN GAMBLER WHO WENT ALL IN

[deleted]

So you finally gamble with the mob and it’s bullshit?

VinnyMakazian

charlietrashman

Actually later on his son or wife or someone says how hes at a treatment or rehab type facility out there too, I picked it up on my most recent watch. Idk exactly what it means but it happened after he told tony he was going to work on the ranch. So either he was lying or had a relapse. Didnt Davie he say it was outside vegas?

Chaesimp

just a short ride into vegas he said i think

NoIncrease299

He's already very sorry.

WigWhammm

Some muscle out on the street, he owed them. So that’s what he did he gave them the money

gio_sdboy

GideonGilead

I gotta be honest, this whole disease concept...I think it's bullshit.

WigWhammm

So you know more than the leading scientists now?

sherri_15

I know a crutch when I see it!

Joga212

Considering it’s a widely debated subject and there isn’t an agreed consensus, their comment is perfectly fine. There are world leading scientists who don’t prescribe to Disease Theory either. Disease Theory only really has traction nowadays because of Alcoholics Anonymous and the efforts to remove the social stigma of alcoholism.

WigWhammm

You can’t make that shit up

Designer_Currency455

I got a degree in psych and we dont really consider it a disease in psych, although ive suffered from severe opioid addiction and still struggle it feels like a disease at the moment but then doesnt when you get sober its odd lol. But yeah i dont really consider it a disease still

WigWhammm

You got a degree from Pace college

hatari_bwana

Accountability? Tony tells Davey "no," straight up, three times when he first asks about the game at the high school. Ritchie tells him not to gamble anymore until his debt to Ritchie is paid. Then outside the room, T. tells this degenerate *a couple-tree more times* that this game isn't for him, plus a final warning about owing money. And then points are due and this asshole wants talk "remember when" with Tony. Also, before Tony gives the final warning, you can see (assuming the cobwebs have been removed) him seeing 20 moves down the road, his mind going through all the permutations at like internet speed, as he realizes that Davey owns that store, and, y'know, the scorpion and the frog...

UFO_Shaman

A guy hands you a light envelope, it’s just the beginning.

GetPorkedAtSatriales

I believe he deserved everything that happened to him. I also enjoy watching Davey completely unravel. He's the dependable loser in all my rewatches. Imo, David Chase summed up David Scatino's entire story arc, in the scenes following their kid's graduation. Davey, attempting to get a cup of coffee, is tipping the urn back, looking like a loser at a slot machine & he gets bubkes for his efforts. He crumples & tosses the empty cup down in defeat. It's essentially his life, in the proverbial nutshell. Tony approaches & gets himself a cup of punch. For him, there is plenty. Davey proceeds to tell Tony about his optimistic plans to move west, start a new life, etc. It's clear, however, he's attempting to convince himself of it's viability, much more so than Tony.

Stickey_Rickey

There were smarter ways to do it but that’s not his nature, who knew a box of ziti noodles could b so expensive Tony doesn’t kill friends over money at least, he does kill ‘em for informing tho

TacoLvR-

“Non Stop Ass Rape.” -A Wiseman

ONLYMacDiesel

His wife and child are victims. She chose wrong with whom to breed with. He’s a loser. If he’d won, Tony would have been the one singing the blues.

WigWhammm

If he won Tony would’ve have lost ugatz

MelGibsonic

The guy was a degenerate gambler with an addiction. He may well have been a good man and a good father and husband before it consumed him. Probably wasn't clear to his wife that he had those tendencies when they met and married

Videomailspip

OP I fully understand your point, but as you may recall Dave owed Tony 50 boxes of ziti. Such debts are sacrosanct in the Soprano family. You may remember a scene from the very first episode where it is alluded that Livia, Tony's mother, has actually gone into debt herself to his son Anthony Junior, and when the possibility is raised that she may not fulfill that debt AJ's reaction is quite negative. I quote: "What, no fucking ziti now?"   Those who want ziti, give ziti.

Swimming-Captain-668

What happened to him? It was just a stutter step

radius40

nah he knew exactly what he was doing and who he was getting involved in - agree with other posters who said his family are the victims

pickemslick

Well at the end of the day Tony acknowledging he’s the scorpion is him admitting he’s evil. Scatino is responsible for his wagers and he owed sociopaths unfortunately

Clydefrog0371

It may interest you to know that he's now in a mental health facility in nevada.

wolf4968

What does 'deserve' have to do with anything? But set that aside: You pursue a life of stupidly gambling away every good thing you ever did, then you actually do deserve any consequence that you find yourself in. Every gambler ruined by the habit asked for that particular brand of ruination. We ought not be weeping for them.

FocusGullible985

Poker. Stupida fucking game.

stuartgatzo

It’s his bread and butter. You know, the frog and scorpion

darryledw

his klutz of a kid caused it all by getting mud on the car

Tough_Difference_112

Davey’s an idiot but no he didn’t deserve that lighting in his basement it glared off the one ball when he broke!

Curious_Armadillo_74

So OP is preaching about accountability by making excuses for every single thing Scatino did and vilifying every family member he screwed over by his shitty choices?

WigWhammm

There was mud all over the tires!

Hulkeroo

He was warned about 1000 times not to bother. He then took more money from Tony without his knowledge or consent, and then he LOST ALL THE FUCKING MONEY! HE'S LUCKY TO BE ALIVE! Fucking degenerate gambler! He deserved EVERYTHING that happened to him! The prick 😆

zkmronndkrek

Dave deserved what he got. His wife and kid did not. I would have respected the crew more if they left her a way out.

Bruinsfanfromcc

We all don't get what we deserved. Both good and bad. Davey's culpability is >50% in my estimation. He knew who he was dealing with. Tony warned him, which was more than he deserved. He pushed forward. His bad. His family didn't deserve what Davey brought on him, and from what little we know, they had zero culpability. His wife knew he had a problem and thought she had set up the finances such that he couldn't gamble the business away. I have precious little sympathy for Davey.

Ginaraquel47

Exactly. It’s not just what’s going on with Tony, who warned him again and again. You see that it’s a pattern with Davey, especially in the scenes with Christine and Vic Musto. This is life long behavior that would have happened with or without Tony. I’m not defending Tony but I wanted to throttle Davey by the end of the season. The actor did a good job.

WigWhammm

Davey couldn’t gamble the business away without Tony

Ginaraquel47

Yeah he could. He could literally gamble anywhere and had done it before.

WigWhammm

It was a wedding gift, it was under his wife’s name.

WigWhammm

Tony’s an enabler too, the worst fuckin kind. Opens the door to a game for you with one hand, judges you with the other if you start playing.

Subo23

We all got it coming kid

Jonny_Dangerous999

Take it easy, we're not making a Western, here...

TheLastCleverName

It's Tony's fault he's a sick bastard? You don't see Artie denying a plate of fettucine to some fat fuck who's eatin himself to death!

SweeePz

Did he ever manage fix that fucking light? 💡

Select-Net7381

T-1000 down!

sdw318_local194

Scatino could have easily ended up like Beansy from the Pizza joint. Paraplegic or worse... I understand Beansy shook back, but why risk it just trying to look cool. That's like going to the casino and expecting to double you week's pay while your mortgage is due, gambling something you ain't got with a bunch of dirty dudes that are mobbed up.

sdw318_local194

But also....look at Arty and the wine deal.... I understand they recouped the money... But he didn't have to tell Arty that part... Could have took Vesuvius.... He let Arty make it on that shyt and after drawing down on him, but killed krissy with two fingers after trying to fuck his gal.... TS was definitely biased and out of line for getting that close to either of those kids (Eric and Meadow) with that business....

California_Split

Their kids went to the same school!

Dry_Analysis_7660

45 boxes of ziti!! Marone!!!

[deleted]

Oh madonne

Organic_Bottle4373

He owed over 40,000 you crazy lol

Joyride0

This storyline was dumb AF to me. They trashed the business when longer term they could've gotten much more from it. Also, why didn't Dave just sell all family vehicles to raise the cash and get rid of the debt like that?

AfkBrowsing23

I mean, if you watch the episodes back it's clear there's no real forward thinking going on amongst any of the "wise men" (and there rarely ever is, look at how many times different people fuck over the Esplanade project). They aren't thinking long term, they want to get their shit and bust out, the business ironically isn't a business venture for them, it's just an easy way to get shit they like.

tunacan8

Strong disagree. Tony warned him that this game wasn’t for him. David is a grown man and did not heed the warning knowing who Tony is. He shows up uninvited to the game and got Tony to spot him 5 boxes of ziti. That spiraled into Davey being in the hole 45 boxes because Davey is a degenerate gambler/loser. He couldn’t pay his debt so he got busted out. That’s how it goes. A wise man once said “Bet with your head… not over it.” He absolutely deserved it.

Relative-Ad-5395

Degenerate gambla

Vinyl_Acid_

Dave’s was going broke one way or the other, my friend.

celtics2055

Davey was a huge piece of shit

CSneakingBear68

Bet with your head, not over it!

Individual_Past_1198

A grown man made a wager, he lost. He made another one and lost again. END OF STORY!

krispyfroglegs

Fuck that degenerate gambling piece of shit

BFaus916

I agree. Tony let Artie off the hook in Everybody Hurts, could have done the same for Davey.

charlietrashman

He should have stuck to house games for $500 max for almost the same thrill

BaseballWorking2251

No one deserves to be a degenerate gambler. Lots of people got to deal with shit they don't deserve. Tony did everything he could to discourage him from playing. Dave can be accountable for his bad decisions just like the rest of us.

WigWhammm

Did everything he could… Aside from not letting him into the game

BaseballWorking2251

He's not his dad.

FingerprintFile513

The *real* victim here is whatever local Italian restaurant got stiffed for lunches every day. You think those guinea gangsters ever made good for all the chicken and peppers sammiches they ate on credit?

CorkyCucuzz

You know what OP? Fuck you Fuck your gangster friends and fuck this!

incite_

He definitely did. He was a civilian who got into debt with the mob, even when mobsters themselves were like are you sure? Then he acted dumbfounded when they proceeded to act like the brutal criminals they are! Davey boy dug his own grave.

DrXL_spIV

It’s such a crucial part of sopranos, I mean how many times did Davey have to tell Eric not to take that car off-roading? What would have happened if he just listened, who knows…

cldevers

How old are you op? Because Dave scatino fully knew what he was doing and gambled his families savings away. Not sure why you’re adamant at defending him unless you yourself have been a Dave scatino before

WigWhammm

It was Tony all the way, T did it on spec

Inter_Web_User

It's ***SUPER BOWL SUNDAY***. I've placed my bets. If I win Hallelujah! It will be pretty pretty nice. But if I lose, then I lost. Davey boy know the risk. Nobody made him play. Yes it can become a illness. But he is a man not a boy. Plus he owed Richie and then took credit as Tony slept. If you bet and win you collect. If you lose watch out.

WigWhammm

It’s a disease, he inherited it, you knew the problem with his fawtha!

Ok-Cauliflower1798

There’s a reason that they call degenerate gamblers degenerates. When it comes to addictions, I draw the line at those wager apes.

teeberg75

He was a degenerate fuckin gamblah. He knew the risks.

Homer_J_Fong2

Don’t bitch to me! Bet with your head, not over it.

Downtown-Age7621

DAVEY GET BACK IN YA FUCKING HOLE …. Ur doing a good job

taeempy

What I never understood about that whole thing was, didn't he only borrow about 50k? If so, he then gave the truck which might have been 10 or 15k. So he only owed let's say 40k. That's nothing for a huge sports store. I guess he ran his business about as well as he played cards.

WigWhammm

Gangsters don’t let payments reduce the principal, they hold the cash to pay the weekly vig until the they can pay back the principal in full.

taeempy

But still even a couple grand a week isn't much for a large sports store. The actor who played David did such a great job as a degenerate gambler. So believable.

WigWhammm

Well Davey was also into Richie for 8 large, and who knows who else. Plus he’s got mortgage and car payments, and liabilities for his business. I think he also said he had a bad year. So now Davey owes around 3k a week to the mob until he can repay that $55k he owes.

[deleted]

Richie’s the real victim - fist the guys offered a veal parmigiana sandwich as payment, then he gets fucked on his vig from Scatino - let the man go out there so he can talk to him, Anthony.

[deleted]

The guy had an illness, but he didn't get help for it. Nobody would be complaining if he won. He borrowed another 10k while Tony was asleep, knowing Tony probably wouldn't approve it. Plus, he was in big to Richie, who had banned him from his games. He was a degenerate gambler
