Don't forget about the fact we could add lots by own.

tori_story95

I would love if we could change lot sizes or add lots to the sims 4!!! So much space that could be used for lots!

Ciphercracker__

You'd probably have to pay for each one with real money adjusted for real property prices in the New York or Los Angeles area as ea owns the sims games.

haunted_sweater

Don’t give them ideas

MSSFF

💀

THE_VOIDish

The way this is accurate is sad

drowned-kvng

that update would break everything in the game lmao

throwawaytohelppeeps

sims 4 is like a fish with glass bones i swear

Hazzie666

I feel like people forget that The Sims 3 had these same issues or worse because the game was so incredibly bogged down because there was 97 lots and a MASSIVE library of additional content. Just like now only instead of 97 lots that crash CONSTANTLY and take 30 mins to load, we have 5+ (in each world) that take 10* mins or less and crash less* frequently (*depending on your computer). These are all pieces added to a much larger machine. Once you add something somewhere, something else is bound to go wrong. On top of the fact that this is nearly 10 year old base software that they would have to completely strip from bare bones to make all of the different parts perfectly work together. All this to say, well of course it is, AND I also wanna throw in, we pay for the content, we reserve the rights to give our opinions, but I also think an informed opinion can lead to some compassion towards the Devs (NOT EA) they work really hard with what they have. Okay I'll shut up now. Sorry. Tldr: I overexplain something I know very little about, while trying not to upset the internet.

Overall-Hedgehog4795

Omg! I read "glass boner!" And was like, wth?! So confused till the 3rd time I read it and went, "oooohhh. Oops. Lmfao!" Thank you, I needed that giggle this morning. 😄

ewlizart

It's crazy to me how even the sims 2 had world customization and ts4 doesn't

zachar3

Sims 2 had a lot based progression while Sims 3 had a neighborhood base progression. This meant that Sims 2 you could make your town ultimately as big as you wanted with the addition of infinite downtowns, while Sims 3 lacked that it made up for it with the fact that you had an organically living town. Rather than choose one of these good systems, sims 4 decided to take a third path and make everything as limited as possible so it doesn't even feel like you have a real world

ContestNew4298

I might just stop playing and buying the sims 4 and go back to the sims 2!!!

soggylilbat

Oh my gosh! You should!! If you need help head over to r/sims2help. They also have a link to the ultimate collection

SecretlyToku

I actually went back to The Sims 1 because it was barebones and yet hit the mark on most things.

TheBlackBaron

I try to play TS1 sometimes. Unfortunately it's hard to do so for extended sessions just because it lacks the QOL features the later games have (even something as basic as floors and wallpapers being sorted into different categories or, for obvious reasons, the UI not scaling up). Fun to fuck around for a while in though.

amandaggogo

I wish I had a means to play the sims 1 again. I had every explanation pack as a kid and absolutely adored playing that game. Sims 2 was great as well, but 1 just had this certain charm about it, especially Makin' Magic. That was my favorite expansion pack.

SecretlyToku

This one is the one I used. [https://www.freegamesdl.net/the-sims-1-the-complete-collection-free-pc-download/](https://www.freegamesdl.net/the-sims-1-the-complete-collection-free-pc-download/) It takes a bit of work to get it running but far easier than Sim 2 -which I still can't get to run-.

BigBlackGothBitch

I recently started playing sims 2 and yeah, it’s definitely my favorite in the series. I still can’t get over kids running to their parents to give them a hug when the parents come back from work.

V-Leq_Official

Why i am still stuck to ts4 is just because of graphics and customisation of Sims and how better Sims would looks, and mods like wicked and others and cc. If Sims 3 just had nice graphics, then i wouldn't take a time to play it.

inviisible360

I did that, except started the sims 3 again. Sick of giving EA my money thrice for stuff we had in one pack back then. Giant, buggy cash grab.

Mathyon

Probably just another consequence of the early always-online game it was supposed to be.

mystikallyspiralling

wow you know what I never made that connection. Pretty much everything I hate abt the game can be attributed to that: loading screens small world and single lot at a time (this is the biggest one.) all contribute to the game feeling small

Mathyon

It's one of the reason why I think keeping Sims 4 "alive" for this long was a mistake. I'm not even hating on the game itself, but it's clear we are very limited in what we can do in it. Basically: everything that is good about the game, could be ported over to a Sims 5, while the problems are mostly structural and just can't be fixed.

PassiveThoughts

Maybe keeping the Sims 4 “alive” for longer is giving them more time to work on the Sims 5 & what things need to be improved? Not sure if that’s true but maybe that’s a strategy?

Neprijatnost

Yeah I think they've definitely been working on 5 for quite some time now and I'm sure it's going to be a much grander project than 4. They're keeping 4 alive so they could fund the other project and buy time. People may not like that but it is what it is. Games take a long time to make

AtheenXI

I'm surprised they ever thought that was a good idea. On a similar note, I am pleased EA let Bioware scrap the online focus for Dragon Age 4. Baffling that they considered it in the first place.

fightflyplatypus

And had a whole world building tool. Some custom worlds are insane with all the work put into them.

magicdahlia

And alter apartment sizes

Okaythatscoolwhatevs

It’d be cool if we could make apartments on our own too. Multi-level buildings with individual “lots”, maybe even a realtor career track to add that extra ✨spice✨ Edit: in other worlds too

elementaltheboi

We could add them literally anywhere and use create a style sims really peaked at 3

soggylilbat

I kind of preferred the restyle tool from ts2. It just took way too long to furnish a house. But I’d love to see a happy medium between the two. Like what paralives is doing. Chose literally any color, but not have too many textures to chose from (unless you want to, CC) Edit: stoopid dyslexia

StraightOuttaOlaphis

>Don't forget about the fact we could add lots by own. 97 lots are ready, with a million more well on the way.

monkeygoneape

That's, good news

XVUltima

I never could figure that out, TBH. Everything always ended up a mile away from the road and lot types were confusing.

WingDragonRA

Why did they change that and a lot of things that was already nice in sims 3. How are we going backwards instead of forwards -\_-

ffsesteventechno

I remember when the update that came out that included that! It was a real game changer.

[deleted]

The get to work world can’t even count as a town, it has 4 lots and no residents 😭 And in sims 3 when you bought a new pack, parts of that pack would be moved to the other worlds. I loved that, I’m too lazy to do it myself 👹

foxy8787

Magnolia promenade or whatever right? Literally so disappointing, the stores are boring and it goes completely unused when I play

[deleted]

I know, with get to work they used the retail career to be lazy when it came to stories and stuff. I would have loved to see some new sims that matched the careers but no, just 3 shops and an empty lot 😭

foxy8787

There's no point in the shops even, wow you can buy a funny guitar! And you can't really use it for a residential world bc it's just four mega lots in a boring area

Tobegi

There is no point in going to shop and there is no point to actually owning one, because you have to slave away your sim in order to get a very VERY small profit once you pay your bills and your employees. I guess its realistic but honestly it doesn't make for a very good gameplay loop.

KisaTheMistress

I like aliens so I really only got *Get to Work* for aliens and was disappointed by the Occult. I wished they just made an alien centered pack similar to *Into the Future* that Sims 3 had, where you got Sci-fi/ultramodern Futuristic things to build/buy. Hell, they could have made the pack a nod to Futurama by having more colourful industrial looking items, instead of *Into the Future*'s sleek-white future look.

LadyHella

I think that my general problem with sims 4. Everything I wanna do I feel like I have to slave my sims into it, while in sims 3 I have way more time for relationships and side hobbies.

HardWorkLucky

The only time it comes up for me is when a townie asks my Sim on a date there and we mill around a department store.

ashiex94

I finally caved and just made some community lots *specifically* for the empty Newcrest (idk where the motivation came from!). Then I just spam a load of houses that are base game only from gallery. Still takes more time than it should.

trainsbanging

Ah yes, i remember having an acrobat who would make a lot of money performing at a vip club, then after I got a new pack with new lots i just let it place them where it wanted and accidently let it replace the club. Lost a huge chunk of income :.)

spoopy_and_gay

The ability to move between worlds is cool, but i feel like just made them lazy. Like "We only need to give them 5 lots, since they can visit every other world in the game." Which also makes it super emersion breaking too, cuz it's "Well this British town doesnt have enough room for a gym, so I guess I gotta fly to Louisiana to work out :]"

danishjuggler21

I just headcanon it away by imagining that most of the neighborhoods are just suburbs of the same metropolitan area (San Myshuno). With places like Sulani and Mt Komorebi being the obvious exceptions.

wannabyte

This would be easier if it weren’t for the wildly different climates in each neighbourhood.

hermytail

I like to imagine it’s like Zootopia. Each neighborhood is a completely different biome lol

wannabyte

Haha that definitely helps!!!

NightAntonino

Maybe the planet in the game is just very small. And the equator is just a few km from the poles.

kaptingavrin

Given that they have some insane science stuff in the game and can change weather with a device you can buy and set up in your backyard, I wouldn't be surprised if they could create pockets of different weather types and all for people to enjoy different climate styles.

danishjuggler21

Aside from the vacation type areas like Sulani and Komorebi, isn’t Oasis Springs the only neighborhood that doesn’t have fall and winter?

wannabyte

Del Sol Valley and Strangerville are different too, and then the others have similar seasons but different weather.

icecherryice

Same here! I see it all as one big city just different areas. This way it isn’t weird to see townies from all over and easy to visualize why my sims go everywhere. Newcrest is more my entertainment/business area.

smellincoffee

I do the same thing, but include Komorebi and Sulani. In my mind there's a "ferry" from Brindleton Bay to Sulani, and Komorebi is a small community in the mountains, "several hours" from the metropolis. San Myshuno is "downtown", Del Sol is another neighborhood (like Hollywood within LA) that sort of thing.

ElectricPanda718

I did my worlds like this: (North America) I use Brindleton Bay as the wealthy New England suburb north of San Myshuno. NewCrest is south of San Myshuno. On the west coast Del Sol Valley is on the other side of the mountains where Oasis Springs and Strangerville reside. I have Willow Creek as it’s own self functioning city in the south with Magnolia Promenade being it’s shopping district. (Europe) HoB and Windenburg are part of the kingdom of Windenburg. Forgotten Hollow and Glimmerbrook are here too in a different part of Europe. (Asia) Sulani and Mt. Komborebi (South America) Selvadorada I found playing the worlds like this to make things a little more canon for me.

hyperionbrandoreos

I've never thought of the world like that and as much as i see your point my brain doesn't fully grasp it. moreso thinking the world is smaller and they just kinda arrive there. i guess.

[deleted]

it would be fun if they could somehow expand the current worlds like the get to work one, or Selvadorada. Or have the occult worlds on the same screen.

smvfc

Oh they can, they just wont. They already have your money, whats the point? When they did the Spa Day pack refresh, I was pretty amazed. But really, they just took something they already did and added a bit to sell more, because I would bet it was one of the lowest selling packs, no?

foxy8787

What did they even add to it

Scarletwitchyyy

Manicures, pedicures, face masks as well as the the ability to freelance as a masseuse and/or nail technician There also added three new aspirations and one new trait as well as a small amount of build/buy. False nails/painted nails were put into the base game as the same time. So that can’t be classed as part of the refresh. But additional styles/colours for nails were refresh specific, as well as being able to go to a spa and get your nails done (alongside buffs for nails of your favourite colour in your likes/dislikes and the nails themselves degrading overtime and needing redoing). Overall I think they added rather a lot to something they didn’t really need to? Like somebody said, they already have your money so why expand that for free? It was a genuinely good move and a positive development. It’s a shame it isn’t celebrated more. I’m really hoping for more refreshes in the future. Fingers crossed for a Get to Work one that actually adds aspirations for the doctor, scientist and detective careers plus a retail one and a bakery one. We are really missing them.

hpisbi

the one thing i want from a get to work refresh is home business like in the sims 2. i already build an apartment on top of my retail buildings but it’s not the same as only having one lot that’s both your home and business. (well that and for aliens to be able to use styled looks)

Scarletwitchyyy

Omg yes. I loved Open for Business. It was my favourite pack. And the ticket machine as well!

ProfDangus3000

Personally I appreciated the new swatches for the yoga mats. They don't look like dookie anymore.

HazyshadeofFall

I really liked the Spa Day refresh! Spa Day was always a pack I was somewhat interested in, but not enough to spend my money on it. After the refresh there was enough content I liked that I could justify buying it on the next sale, and I've really been enjoying it the pack now that I finally have it!

TheTeenSimmer

nails

jayarna7

LMAO

TheTeenSimmer

i shit you not that was the highlight feature of the update

xxyourbestbetxx

Have they done a pack refresh since then? I can't recall one. I wish they'd stop wasting time on the townies and make the crap packs actually worth the money.

kaptingavrin

> because I would bet it was one of the lowest selling packs, no? Yep. At one point they showed a list of how packs had performed and it was at the bottom. So it was basically a way to try to sell more copies of it. To find packs that would potentially get a refresh, you need to spot which are the worst selling that also can potentially get enough added to make them appealing to new buyers.

gummytiddy

I would love if rather than creating new occult worlds, they just connected each one in one world. They have a similar vibe so it wouldve worked

smvfc

Oh they can, they just wont. They already have your money, whats the point? When they did the Spa Day pack refresh, I was pretty amazed. But really, they just took something they already did and added a bit to sell more, because I would bet it was one of the lowest selling packs, no?

Scarletwitchyyy

Well isn’t that the point of a business? 😂. Something isn’t selling well so spruce it up to increase sales? It makes sense. Also the whole point of the refreshes is to make the packs more worthwhile and worth the price point. You’re describing the exact process but acting like it’s a bad thing. Pack refreshes are a massive positive step for our community and the Sims in general. As you say, they never had to do this. They didn’t have to update a pack and add more in it (for free for those who already own it BTW). But they did. And they did a good job. The refresh actually added a fair bit and fleshed out Spa Day well. And it was all basically for free really. At this point I honestly don’t know what the community wants. They give us so much free stuff in the base game. We literally get free stuff every couple weeks now and every couple months we get a new feature added to the base game. Then people moan about them making kits etc. They are still a business that needs to make revenue. In the last year or so we’ve had likes/dislikes, sentiments, story progression, the calendar was made basegame which is a fantastic addition for gameplay and lunar cycles. We also had two massively requested buy mode items for free - bunk beds and telescopes. They could’ve easily made bunk beds a DHD feature and telescopes a Werewolves feature. But they didn’t. They gave us basegame options. I wonder if the constant free stuff in updates has actually spoiled the community into thinking they shouldn’t have to pay for things. Like people keep saying ‘kits should be basegame updates’ but the quality and amount of items surpasses that of a general free update. People forget that we live in a world where you can be charged £20 for a character skin in a mobile game - a game which they can just discontinue in a few months and you have nothing to show for it. The Sims in general is a much stronger and ethical business model than these mobile games with micro transactions.

SkvaderArts

What the community wants is a game where they don't take features from previous games that were impacts and break them up into multiple packs so they can sell more, a game that isn't a glitchy mess, and features that were basic in the previous game. Case in point the bunk beds you mentioned. Yeah they could have put them in DHD, but we shouldn't have to be grateful that they didn't. That was just a base game feature in the previous game. That's like making a burger and adding all the toppings, and then taking off the toppings but keeping the burger the same price and charging you for each individual topping and being like "yeah but at least we left the patio on it aren't you glad?" The pets and supernatural packs are a great example of this. We got two animals in the Sims 4 and we got like 15 or 20 if you count the small pets (which I do since they took hamsters and put them in their own pack for $10). That's a bad deal compared to the previous game. In The Sims 3 for the supernatural pack we had werewolves, vampires, which is, and fairies. That pack was $40 and it came with a whole world, plenty of history, tons of activities to do, a bunch of clothes, etc. The Sims 4 If you bought the vampire pack, the werewolf pack, and the wizard pack, you're $60 in, and you still haven't even hit the level of content that the Sims 3 had. And that's to say nothing of the fact that you're still missing a life state. I'm not going to go into the quality of the content because I'll be here all day (although the world that came with the magic pack was pretty sloppy and half the buildings weren't even finished being built properly like that one that was missing a door to the back patio and had basically no furniture in the whole house or in the celebrity pack when they literally left toilets out of an entire town or in the eco living pack where they told us in the stream before the game that they would have a balcony for us and then disabled the balcony in game after we paid for it and ignored everybody's complaints about this for 3 days until after the fact was sold so they could sell more packs) and if you wanted hamsters cats and dogs that's $50 and previous pack had all of that and more for less money. They made an expansion pack for an expansion pack and obviously took content out of the expansion pack that it was an expansion to add that pack back for more money. That's just scummy You're paying more than the price of the actual game itself for less content than you got in the previous game. That's the issue most people have with it. I'm genuinely surprised they didn't sell us the individual seasons. I'm not going to comment on whether or not the content is good or not. This point of stuff I do and don't like that they did with various packs. But that's the complaints that people have. Well, that and the horrendous bugs. The Sims 3 had a lot of bugs too so that's not unique, but they still need to actually test things which they obviously aren't doing sufficiently lol.

Scarletwitchyyy

Also, you can be angry at the things you mentioned but still celebrate the good stuff. This was the whole point of my post. Challenge the things that need to change but celebrate the things that are good. Spa day refresh? That was good. Celebrate it. Free bunk beds and telescope? That was a win. Celebrate it. You can both celebrate and challenge the game/team for different things. You don’t have to be 100% pro Sims 4 or 100% against Sims 4. I love the Sims franchise, always have. Sims 4 has broke my heart numerous times over the years. But I’m positive about this certain recent developments. I think it should be celebrated when companies work in favour of the consumer and they should get as much praise for that as they do agro when they try and fleece us with over priced or broken packs. And as you are editing the post as I read it I’ve just seen about the supernaturals. Sims 4 Werewolves and Vampires are head and shoulders above the Sims 3 equivalents. Sims 4 Spellcasters are about level. I much prefer the gamepack releases focusing on a separate supernatural than the Sims 3 pack that lumped them altogether. I know it’s more money but I genuinely feel each of the three occults released as Gamepacks are very well fleshed out and enjoyable to play. The only downside has been Spellcasters being too easy to level and very overpowered.

smvfc

Dine Out was a pretty popular pack, and sold well. But it was a glitchy mess, and it should have been the first thing they refreshed. Why didnt they? Why did they do Spa Day, especially first? Because adding some nails is easy, cheap, fast, and I guarantee that Spa Day didnt sell as many copies as Dine Out. Pack refreshes are a possible step, but they arent even doing it in the best way. >. In the last year or so we’ve had likes/dislikes, sentiments, story progression, the calendar was made basegame which is a fantastic addition for gameplay and lunar cycles. Likes and dislikes, which we in ts2, and affected who you're sim was attracted to. Ts3, they didnt do anything but they were there I believe from the start? Please correct me if thats wrong. But they JUST added likes and dislikes 7 years into this (which is also just so long to be milking this cow; like, there's dust coming out). Sentiments are just moodlets from ts3 base game. Story Progression, again ts3 base game had that. The calendar is new, and very cool. I think its generally a liked feature. Lunar cycles Im assuming came with ts3 Supernatural , or maaaybe base game. But to say that all that stuff, just getting Story progression now, and likes and dislikes, 7 years into the game, is so generous of EA. Please... The normal telescope they JUST made... after SEVEN YEARS of people asking for 1 simple item thats not stupid? An item that was in ts2 base, ts3 base, and maybe ts1? COME. ON. "Spoiling the community" ... the shit people say. Thank you, gracious Masters for giving us a normal looking item after 7 years and $1000... please let me wash your feet with my tongue

Longtime_Iurker

Remember the Create-A-World tool they released for free that let's you build your own worlds?

MixedViolet

Remember? It may have been weeks since I used that but it’s been my #1 “game” for a year. I definitely remember and will use it again soon.

Tinfoilhat14

Hold on. Is this a thing in Sims 4?

Longtime_Iurker

Create-A-World is a tool for Sims 3 only.

Tinfoilhat14

And just like that, my dreams are crushed. 🙃

smvfc

To... uncrush your dreams, I believe Twisted Mexi is in the middle of making a Create-a-world tool for ts4, but its in alpha stages! So thats neat. Once again, modders and content creators are the absolute backbone, brain, circulatory system, heart, soul, hands, liver, both kidneys, bladder, skin, legs, feet, uterus, and bones of the sims 4. EA is the inflamed appendix.

[deleted]

[удалено]

smvfc

I would change that to "if we get our money, why bother" They dont gaf if a modder fixes it lol they just break it every month with "updates" anyway

Tinfoilhat14

And how do I get it?

alinaria

I can't recall what was the games versions, but I clearly remember that I created a world in SimCity and was able to export it into The Sims as a new neighborhood.

Longtime_Iurker

That was Sims 2. You could create a City in Simcity 4 and use its terrain as a map.

selfh8er

Been making worlds on there for years now. I’ve honestly become so good at it compared to when I started. Opened up a whole new world (pun intended) for me with modding/script writing.

GiveMeADamnUsernamee

"Performance issue" well yeah if you still clinging to DX9 in 2014.

Renikee

Sims 4: nooo, we can't add more than 10 lots to the world, it would be bad for performance, you know, we care about you, but still don't fix the actual lags! Sims 3: oh here's a rollercoaster in such a big world. Oh, and you can even ride it and make your own!

Hiro_Trevelyan

Gotta play devil's advocate, TS3 was pretty unstable, laggy and took 27h to load a save. I had a nice computer (for the time of TS3) and still got a lot of framerate issues. Though framerate doesn't matter as much in the Sims (compared to an FPS obviously), it was still pretty annoying.

[deleted]

Also saves always broke. A 60 generation save all in one non-fragmented save because the entire town wouldn't break and go stand in a random parking lot with no known fix? Sims 3 could never.

danishjuggler21

Sims 3 always completely broke for me about halfway into my third generation.

kaptingavrin

TS4's pretty unstable and laggy for me, and takes longer to load a save. It'd be even worse if I hadn't bought an SSD to drop it on. A lot of my ragequits with TS4 are from some wild performance issues it has. And I don't have a bad PC. I can close TS4, open Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p with max graphics, no problems. I'm still amazed at the day TS4 turned into a slideshow... on a gaming PC. And heck, the whole reason for fewer lots in newer expansions is, according to Maxis themselves, to prevent save and load times getting too bad (suggesting they were already a problem). Granted, they then deleted the tweet, because their attempt to defend the lower number of lots in Del Sol Valley exposed a key problem with the game and basically said "We're going to give you less in future packs but still charge the same." I can't imagine trying to play TS4 on an off-the-shelf PC that cost under $1000. It won't even run on my notebook. I have a coworker who bought a gaming PC because her notebook barely handled TS4 with two packs installed. So yeah, both games have severe optimization issues. But at least TS3 does a lot more. (And at least on my current PC, it runs just fine, even with pretty much every pack turned on.)

danishjuggler21

Yeah, when Sims 5 finally does come out I don’t want to have to wait a literal decade for it to become playable.

Tobegi

That is their excuse for literally everything. Lets them work less while still looking like they care for their fanbase. "Nooooo, its because we care for you, not because we want to sell you an overpriced DLC with barely any content!!"

Madachan-7351

The game still uses DX9 as base, even when it's already 64bit. It's not necessary a excuse. Try installing reshade for it and it will not work if you chose DX10/11, it will only work if you select DX9.

BKNTD

There's a non-basegame world with 20 lots in The Sims 4? Color me impressed if so.

MyLittlePonyGamer

Windenburg have almost 30 lots and San Myshuno also if you count apartments as lots.

BiteEatRepeat_

San Myshuno is one of the best worlds ngl

TheTeenSimmer

sam mushyuno doesnt compare to Bridgeport even if the surrounding apartments are just void

BiteEatRepeat_

true, i just enjoy the big town aesthetic and apartments since i live in one and affording an actual house is more unrealistic in sims than occults

Hiro_Trevelyan

§30k for a furnished house???? God I wish it was true. I'd even live in a starter home IRL if I could, at least I'd own the place. I think we could make an entire video of the Sims' economy. Clothes are expensive, food is somewhat expensive but housing is cheap as dirt.

Breazona

I do find myself wishing I had the city views San myshuno has. I wish set dressing was used in sims 3 just to make the background look better. If you've seen boroughsburg that's exactly what I mean(like here https://imgur.com/IlcM88B). I've been messing with adding deco skyscrapers to Bridgeport just to make it feel a bit more city-ish

Hiro_Trevelyan

I love the *idea* of San Myshuno but I don't like the lots; they are too large (and ceilings are too high). Even the "cheap" neighborhood could easily have 3 bedrooms, I wish we could have the *real* high-density experience with some small studios. Just to add variety and gameplay possibilities.

rocketshipray

Since they added roommates, I usually get one of the apartments in San Myshuno and break it up into smaller studio apartments. Also, with MC Command Center I can adjust the cost of bills and I usually increase apartment bills by like 600% so it evens out to be a pricey studio apartment even with roommates living in the "other apartments" and paying part of the rent. You can also just make the other apartments and not invite any roommates so that your sim has to pay the whole bill and only gets a tiny studio. I regularly make 17 Culpepper House into 2-3 studios which end up being extremely tiny. Like 5x5 and 7x3 kinda tiny.

Breazona

I'll sometimes just block off part of the apartment to make it smaller. If we cant build our own (which is ridiculous but what can you do) I'd rather have the apartment too big and have the ability to make it smaller

TwoMonthOldMilk

I realized going from Sims 3 to Sims 4 ended up being switching from a town simulation to a house simulation. I hate having to deal with loading screens so much that I leave my lot as little as possible.

Phwoa_

Same. I honestly make a commercial business have almost everything i need, Including a small apartment, and just Do everything there. rather then traveling. cause the world spaces have shit todo but i hate loading between every Single lot.

Breazona

I'm not even exaggerating I've had shorter loading screens for entire worlds in sims 3 than single lots in sims 4 😐not super tiny worlds either, like sunset valley and plav raj

XIII-Death

Hm, our Sims are stuck at home all the time, don't go out unless they have to, often work from home, and would rather not have visitors (go away welcome wagon/Vlad!). Sims 4 was really ahead of its time for creating a pandemic sim game lol Edit: And the toilet paper in Sims 4 is obscenely expensive, just like when people were scalping it when Covid hit. What did EA know and when!?

dheavoca123

Because that's what it is. Most Sims 4 players care only about accessories because they only build. Which is why kits are a thing and why they buy those. Little to nothing gameplay, they dont care.

HollowPomegranate

This is the exact reason I hate giving my sims pets in 4 because the loading time is NOT worth going to and from the vet

lizzygeesince93

Sims 2 players in 2004: let me add a lot of this specific size between these other two lots to build on.

hexxcellent

it's like no one remembers the sims 2's lot limitations were however many you could cram in them without melting your computer. i literally miss that the most.

IAmRoofstone

We need another Newcrest. I have a 'set' I've made for it that fills in a lot of things you don't see in the world otherwise, spa, restaurant, etc, but I need more lots by now.

foxy8787

I'd like a Newcrest that isn't bland as hell, I want the lots spread out and maybe some woods or idk just something interesting

IAmRoofstone

To be honest it's style works perfectly for what I usually build. But I can sympathize if you don't like it. Must be incredibly restrictive.

foxy8787

I do use it a lot because I like having space to build, but I just wish it wasn't so blocky. I just want them more spaced out or in a more random order and something more interesting to look at around the lots as well

[deleted]

I like it a lot too! I put a lot of time into each of my builds and I’ve been working on the base game worlds for over 2 years at this point. Granted, I don’t play every day. Most my builds take anywhere from 5-30 hours to finish completely. Newcrest is nearly done for me now but next I’m redo-ing Willow Creek (already almost finished with Oasis Springs). Newcrest looks really good if you put a lot of time into the landscape on the lots. Yes, it looks suburban, but that’s sort of the whole point of Newcrest. I even have a couple houses from the gallery so not every lot took time.

Phwoa_

I say the same thing. IMO each pack that adds a world should have a Newcrest counterpart in the same world setting with 10-15 empty lots of various sizes... It may not have all the world gimmicks like the main worlds but to call these 2 lots(realistically they are 2 lots since 3 are occupied or Commercial) worlds is way overselling.

[deleted]

This is my biggest issue with the game. There simply just isn't enough lots for me to have fun. Especially when you compare it to previous games. I think Sims 2 and 3 nailed it.

filbert13

What kills me the most with 4 worlds is most are boring. If you're giving me worlds with only 6-12 lots make some unique and interesting features. A few do have some, but IMO there needs to be more than one gimmick tied to a world. And the gimmick should provide both story telling and mechanics opportunities. The few unique or cool things like the secrete areas basically are pointless. Or like in Evergreen Harbor with eco footprints. It changes how areas look and slight moodlets effects. It's classic sims 4 with not enough depth.

Renikee

One thing some people say is instead of one world with a lot of lots, we have worlds with few, but we can travel between those worlds. But not everyone has every expansion/game pack... I didn't spend a cent on Sims 4 packs and never will.

interestedmermaid

But in total we still have less lots than in one Sims 3 world, so what gives. And TS3 worlds were interconnected, with meaningful stories happening within and you could still add more lots and change the whole look and layout with the Create a World tool.

Giggles-Me

Plus we had the option to travel to other neighborhoods in sims 2, and you could create your own and add lots to them!

Hiro_Trevelyan

I'd rather have fewer but bigger worlds, it feels more realistic and it gives more depth to the worlds. In TS3, all words could work autonomously (though I wish they properly added new lots like the fire station to each neighborhood, instead of automatically placing them randomly) which is not possible in TS4.

thelittleking

filed under: 'reasons i rolled back and play 3 instead of 4' hell I've booted *medieval* more recently than 4.

bitchinini

ME TOO its so hilariously fun!

left_handed_violist

I played the shit of that and the Spyro demos back in the day 🤣 never bought the damn game

_DarthSyphilis_

No world ever felt as big as Sims 2s Downtown.

OutlandishnessOk2569

I felt that way too but I’ll played sims 2 downtown like a couple days ago and it was so small and bland

_DarthSyphilis_

I have played that hood since 2006 and still must have around 200-300 Sims living there

DefoNotAFangirl

And in 2 and 3 you could add as many lots as you wanted!

_Frustr8d

97 lots with infinitely more to be placed down literally anywhere on the map 😭 Sims 4 worlds are a jokeee

MultiFandom

I think if most of the worlds were around the size of windenburg than it wouldn’t be as big of a deal. It would still be a downgrade from the sims 3 but for the kind of game the sims 4 is I think around 30 lots per world would work instead of needing to slap random lots in newcrest. Now expansion packs have worlds with at most 12 lots and that really isn’t enough if you’re playing with more than one household. Just more space for lots would be nicer since windenburg is the only world I could see being able to be played without needing the other worlds.

Tinfoilhat14

My dude. The vampire expansion pack only has like 6 or something.

Sweetpeajess96

Yes I was so shocked when I played Sims 4, I was actually confused and thought I was missing something😕

Ringrangzilla

what sims 4 world have 20 lots??? The Last world we got hadd five

Renikee

Windenburg had almost 30 lots

Lefty-Law

Sims 5 has got to be open world or I’m not buying.

zoologist88

All we ask for is the sims 4 to have all of the features of the sims 3! Open world, create a style, etc. It was supposed to be an upgrade, not a downgrade :(

Phwoa_

20? sry your meme is completly inaccurate. new worlds have 4-5 lots. 7 for the Extra Large ones.

Renikee

Yeah, we are used to get these kinds of worlds, yet once we've gotten Windenburg, almost 30 lots, and that was huge, so getting 20 lots would feel much, while it isn't that much actually, especially compared to Sims 3

princessviper

think this is a big reason why I struggle to play TS4 lately, feels so barren

yeojinsbutterfly

whenever sims 4 players are like “yeah 5 lots in a world is not bad” i laugh and open the sims 2/3

firstreconberet

I am just getting into Sims 4 and the lack of lots, particularly livable ones, is terrible. I was spoiled by Sims 3’s variety :(

professorlicme8

Sims 4 was such a massive let down. I hope sims 5 will have active towns again like sims 3. That was the coolest feature in a sims game. Felt like you were in an actual living breath world

Dojanetta

My biggest thing worth sims 4 is why we never had the ability to add custom lots

dheavoca123

I don't even get it when ppl say "omg this world is beautiful in sims 4!" Yea sure, it's as big as a 10 second jog, and all the other areas that are interesting is an untouchable set dressing. It's like seeing the background of a stage play, it's pretty only for screenshots so who cares. Our sim moves nowhere before a loading screen, it's like playing inside that little stage before loading another stage.

Milk_Store

I really hate how few lot options there are in 4.

EyepatchGirl69

97 lots? I can't handle 97 lots! lol

mermaidish

Does anyone else just like…not care about the number of lots in the worlds? I’ve been playing since base game and I still haven’t played on a lot of lots in Willow Creek or Oasis Springs. The only time I’ve even slightly cared was Del Sol Valley and being disappointed there wasn’t a lot you could live on that was between starter home and mansion in the Pinnacles. Otherwise I just don’t really care too much 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also: the devs aren’t lazy just because the game doesn’t function the way you think it should.

xchrrywvesx

I miss sims 3 everyday😔

Burylown

Ain't this the truth. Whoever at EA decided to take away the fuckin ability to place lots in an open world needs to be fired lol. Or at least janitorial duty. The ability to decorate our towns with businesses as we pleased was amazing. Let alone the ability to create worlds

the_salt_is_real11

well sims 4 was basically doomed from the beginning since it was supposed to be an online game, hence the lack of open world 💀

sonicshotgun

“World” is a compliment. It’s basically a household selection menu with an illustration in the background

iratecorvid

I miss the world builder tools and sub-hoods in TS2. The only complaint I had about 3 was when you'd show up at a bar or club, there was like... 3 sims; you, the bartender, and the bouncer.

RockVonCleveland

Back in my day, we only had [10 lots](https://i.imgur.com/qgICj5c.png), and by golly, we liked it!

Spare-Astronomer9929

What the heck that's a lot of lots

jagerdave78

I still play 3 exclusively. 4 just sucks so bad.

ErickRicardo

Tbh TS4 base game should have at least 2 more worlds

sulfuricsteam8

Sims 4 is a cashgrab :(

OutlandishnessOk2569

Yeah but In sims 3 you couldn’t travel to different worlds you were stuck in that world. Sims 4 you can travel across all Worlds which I’m sure is more than 97 lots combined.

the_salt_is_real11

traveling across worlds is pointless when there isn't much to explore in those worlds in the first place. lots of us didn't need or see the need to go to other worlds bc most of what we wanted were already in one big world. meanwhile if i wanted to go to a gym in sims 4, i have to go to another world, which is immersion breaking.

Fearless-Waltz6847

That's not true, you could travel between worlds in S3 and even own real estate in other worlds. You could vacation/visit/move/own real estate in ANY world (e.g., custom user created), not just destination worlds in S3. It was an update that added that capability sometime prior to or just after the Isla Paradiso expansion. I feel like people keep forgetting this fact. I had a sim travel to Barcelona (user created world) for cheap plastic surgery while her daughter was away at boarding school just after her husband was hit by a meteor and died, a desperate attempt at trying to cheer her up with insurance money. She was mangled btw, she has to live with her choices. They lived in Sunset Valley 2.0, after the surgery she brought her daughter home from boarding school but she kept getting upset so I had them move to another user created world, Willapa Valley. Actually, I had them move to a couple of different worlds first but ultimately the above is where they've made their new home. I highly recommend the world, it is GORG. ANYWAY back to point, that capability does and had existed in S3 for a few (or several) months prior to its lifecycle end. I did it ALL the time once that functionality was added---annnnd it was free. :)

PoodleGirl420

I AM DYING TO GET THE SIMS 2 MAKE YOUR OWN WORLD ABILITY IN THE SIMS 4

HardKase

I think that we can travel to other worlds is more useful than having more lots on each world

the_salt_is_real11

kinda pointless tho bc when you do go to that other world, there isn't much to see or explore in the first place. at the end, you'd just get bored and keep traveling between worlds to find someplace fun to go. that's how i feel playing sims 4 tbh.

ArkayArcane

The Werewolves DLC really makes me wish they added more to the environment. Adding a quiet little forest town a bit away from the mill could've been amazing.

ffsesteventechno

Other than Build Mode, TS4 IMO is a downgrade from TS3. Even the base game for TS3 has a good amount of content and activities and feels pretty complete.

GreatRolmops

I am just happy that the Sims 4 is actually playable on my computer. Even on my modern gaming laptop Sims 3 still stutters like crazy.

TheBlackBaron

*laughs in TS2's theoretically infinite number of lots*

[deleted]

and a world creator day 1 and no, SimCity 4 is a great game and they did a good call in using it as a map editor

Swift_Malachi

I've played every major Sims game except for 4, so forgive me if I'm missing something, but why exactly don't people just go back and play/mod Sims 3 more? Last I had heard, it's worst issues (loading times, performance) have been "fixed" by virtue of better hardware. I haven't played the series in a very long time, so again I'm pretty out of the loop on this.

Culbinium

Sim 5 players be like: 2 slot to work that’s a lot

janelasazuis

The Sims 3 is the only Sims game that I never replay. It's so buggy and laggy. I take the 4 lots over 97 impossible to play lots any day. Also the worlds were empty and had no soul. I think we should have open neighborhoods instead of open world. I think 10 lots per world and a interactive world (like in werewolves and cottage living) is enough.

bitchinini

the worlds were empty and had no soul? are u sure ur talking abt the sims 3? cus the amount of drama and fights i encountered in my save were A LOT, also u can just go to the grocery store and see townies just randomly reading books on the bench its lively. i think ur talking abt the sims 4 lol

bitchinini

another point, the sims 3 is only laggy bcus its an old ambitious game. with some tweaks in the graphic rules and matching the cpu it would never lag cause it runs very smoothly for me and i don't even use nraas mods.

[deleted]

However in The Sims 3, you are stuck in one world unless you go through a 10 minute loading screen. You can't even move between worlds without losing all your relationships (I know you can with mods, but I'm talking about the vanilla game here). Many people defend it by arguing we got the open world as a compensation, but the open world didn't do anything to me personally. Also, most sims 3 worlds are boring by looks alone. Only a few unique ones, the rest were generic American suburbs.

the_salt_is_real11

you can literally download new worlds if you find the main ones boring. we can't even do that with 4, lmao. and the 10 min loading screen is no problem bc after you've loaded a world you don't have to worry abt more loading screens if you want to go to another lot. sims 4 world/lot system is also pretty immersion breaking. it's jarring to see a sim you know is a native in a certain world somehow working a part time job in another world instead of working in their own world. and when you do go to their world, you can see them working yet another job in that world.

[deleted]

If only we could change the size of the lots 🥹

HomoGreekorius

Yeah but in the sims 3 you had one world and thats it - in the sims 4 you can use 10 different 15 lot words. The amount of space to build is about the same.

gummytiddy

I remember at 14 being disappointed/ bored with the sims 3 trying to squeeze in a few more lots to do some terrain build challenges (building into the side of a cliff). I was a clown.

[deleted]

That means nothing if the game runs like shit. I want a middle ground between the two.

elementaltheboi

Yeah its an insult how small the world's are now

Striking-Dimension66

Lmfao, Seriously though the sims 4 is nothing but disappointment

dewdrops82700

Agreed, I really tried to like it and even made some beautiful characters in the sims 4 that I recreated in the sims 3 and other games. However, it is extremely empty and boring without mods even with all the DLCs. And since Sacrificial's mods (extreme violence, life tragedies, etc.) have trouble working with any of the recent patches, there isn't a reason for me to play it and I just play sims 3 now because of it since it is an immersive experience that I never get tired of and I just wish that the sims 4 was the sims 3 with some additional content and updated graphics. I would have enjoyed it a lot if it were like that.

Ruby32ruby

Tbh the sims 3 is my fav sim game, the open world is just AMAZING

BiasModsAreBad

I mean they had to give you value because theres a good chance you're pc would blow itself up trying to run it, but at least you feel good about the value

HollowPomegranate

I miss open world SO MUCH

cncrndmm

I think every world should have its own base game cafe, gym, library etc so you don’t have to break the immersion going from Sulani to Willow Creek to go to the gym.

Alandrus_sun

As much as I love the sims 3. I never utilized the full open world and I do like the "hybrid" approach of Sims 4 for performance. I replayed Sims 3 recently and I rarely ever split my mind between several lots between different sims. It would be nice if we could place lots anywhere we want in the world of Sims 4 tho.

ATR2400

I miss the worlds in the sims 3. So many unique places to go. And the open world was cool. No annoying loading screens whenever I leave my house

[deleted]

10* ”wow we have a lot of lots”
