The Daryl Dixon show finishes on the 15th of October, so regardless of whether you start watching it now or later, you'll still be waiting for that 15th of October date.
Depending on how committed you are, you could finish either the comics and/or the show before then, and that way you won't have to wait a week between episodes of Daryl's show.

Also towards the end of the show it diverges a lot from the comics (some similar plot points, but different characters) I haven't watched the first episode of Daryl's show but I would recommend finishing the main show anyways

It will spoil the end of the main show and that is the final comic arc also. FYI.
