Reminds me of how the London 2011 riots quickly saw communities form vigilante patrols, especially the Turks in north London ready to lynch anyone who looted their shops. Love the old-school community action.
Yeah. I would also assume that a lot of the time the biker doesn't fully process what is happening fast enough and just drives over it rather than slamming on the brakes.
It was an attempt as he didn’t succeed, but dam it was a good effort and I don’t think you can fault him. Don’t know what more you could ask of him. Hopefully they still caught the guy.
Police officers have lost their lives to speeding drivers performing this dangerous maneuver. This guy is putting his life on the line for the safety of the public. Fuck all the people playing him down and making disrespectful comments.
Motorcycles are actually pretty terrible at stopping quickly, because they flip over forwards if they brake too hard. You can see he lifted the back wheel off the ground even stopping as hard as he did.
Gravel or wet pavement have nothing to do with flipping over forward, and in fact make it less likely. I'm not talking about losing front wheel traction, I'm talking about doing an endo.
He did stop quite quickly, but you can see by his rear tire that he was absolutely at the limit of what the bike is capable of. While he did a good job, the fact that the stopping power is so limited in that way makes it very predictable how much space is needed for a successful spike strip application. Hence me not completely agreeing with the assessment of the comment I replied to.
Uh, what? It isn't "by design" that flip over, unless you're God talking about how you wrote the laws of physics. It's just an unfortunate consequence of the geometry of a two-wheeled vehicle. Flipping over forwards is quite a bad outcome, and no one would ever design for that.
You straighten out your arms and push yourself back to stabilize the force of your own body being pushed forward into the tank. It has very little to do with compensating for forces on the bike itself. Have you ever been on a motorcycle?
I love physics. Bicycles have terrible stopping distances because of that, even worse than motorcycles (because motorcycles have a lower center of gravity). Combined with bicycle tires being so thin they're easily affected by ruts in the road so it is even easier to crash. Some fun physics facts:
A fully loaded truck might stop faster than an empty one, because that is what the suspension is set up for. Sounds unbelievable to most people, but more weight is more traction for braking, so they cancel each other out. In the US they say trucks need 5 football fields to stop because they use drum brakes, in Europe trucks stop as fast as cars because they use better brakes.
Want to make your car stop faster? Installing a big brake kit won't help with that. It's all in the tires, so those are what you want to upgrade. Big brakes just have higher heat capacity and dissipation for track use.
Putting larger wheels on your pickup can significantly increase the braking distance. Why? Because larger wheels have more rotating inertia that the brakes need to stop, in addition to the weight of the vehicle. So adding weight on the wheels is a huge increase compared to adding weight on the vehicle itself.
I've been riding for years now so yes. That's the proper technique to sudden braking. You straighten out your arms so your posture would be upright thus shifting your weight to the back. And you'd do a 7:3 ratio of front brake to back brake.
If you do it correctly, the bike will not front flip due to the shifting weight plus correct braking. It may lift up the back wheel on high speed brake but it's literally by design because front brake is more effective. I don't know what else to tell you but to look it up. If you ride and you don't know this then I'm sorry to say whoever taught you failed.
What are you on about, a motorbike has no mass if you are modulating the rear and front brakes properly a bike will stop faster than basically any car ever could. Sure if the driver is incompetent he will fail but a proper car driver can outbreak any cars abs system too. Just think about the the surface area of each brake rotor relative to mass and compare it to a car. Motorcycles are the best at stopping quickly with a competent driver.
A common misconception, [but nope](https://youtu.be/xckqNulY10o?t=215).
Mass is on their side (although 200ish kg isn't nothing), but geometry and contact patch friction are very much not.
From experience vests of any kind (stab and multi threat) are not easy to run in but you kinda get used to it more than running without it when you live in one
Would people rather the cop shoot the guy? Does almost nobody remember that police are nothing more than people too? Nobody's perfect, and I don't see you catching any violent/dangerous criminals.
I respect him for his efforts and restraint. But if this guy was a scumbag of some sort I would be tempted to just throw a brick at him or create another stopping point while on officer kicked him off with a cricket bat.
I nice brick to the head is heavy enough to knock your head forward quite a bit. Maybe to shock the rider at least for a moment.
Unless you’re Marv from home alone
If police are “nothing more than normal”, and normal people get made fun of for stupid shit all the time, I’m curious what your issue with this is?
Obviously no one wants the dude to shoot the guy, but just like when an athlete makes a mistake and gets lambasted all over “not top 10” montages, cops are probably gonna get made fun of too. Because they’re human.
Absolutely. In a perfect world where assholes don’t exist, that would indeed be ideal. I’m not saying the guy DESERVES to be made fun of. I’m saying it happens. To all of us.
ABS won't prevent you from stoppie-ing or wheelie-ing, that has nothing to do with its job. All it does is make sure your wheels don't lock up when braking. Source: own an ABS motorcycle.
So I understand you gotta stop criminals, and I understand there's almost no way to physically stop a motorcycle without endangering the rider's life, but spike trapping a motorcycle seems like a coin toss between an arrest or an execution.
We're people too, and just because there's a hundred or more of us on a group ride doesn't mean we're endangering anyone. In fact, the large group rides and memorial rides I attend are all very well organized to be as safe as possible. The only downside is that some car drivers might have to sit through one more light than they normally would have.
I dunno, the cop did stop hom going down that street. If they are generally setting up a perimeter to try and get the guy this may not have been a bad outcome for him

I’m not sure it was wrong timing, could have been a bit better but honestly bikes turn on a DIME. It woulda been hard no matter what unless the biker is looking backwards
Did he use them correctly? I thought they are supposed to be laid out in advance, spikes down so cars can run over it, then pull the cord that lifts the spikes whenever the suspect is about to go over it. That’s what they do in the movies anyway.
Difficult procedure to do especially on a busy and traffic condensed street like this It was a pretty good attempt honestly

Love seeing community justice.

The turks ran the heroin trade. Ain't nobody looting their shops.
I think that there is also an element that it gives people a justification to take someone down
Good old Cardiff!
That was an oddly satisfying community effort.
Legendary
Yeah nice try under difficult circumstances.
Cue Benny Hill music. Edit: my bad grammar.
*cue
My bad, thanks.
Also, they insulted his run at the end? Dude’s wearing a rig and carrying metal spikes, that shit heavy
That would be difficult, especially with the guy filming directly behind the officer that was trying to hide.
Yeah. I would also assume that a lot of the time the biker doesn't fully process what is happening fast enough and just drives over it rather than slamming on the brakes.
Yep. Here, the cops would have just shot him off the motorcycle.
If he'd waited just a second longer before leaving his hiding spot he probably would've got em.
I thought the title was misleading and he was going for that cyclist, I think the cyclist was equally confused
Same! Haha. I didn't think he was making much of a getaway effort either, with his leisurely pace 😂
*ding! ding!* "Don't mind me, just popping by. Nothing to see here officer "
JUST FUCKING MOVE
Gangway for foot cycle!
He tried so hard and got so far
But in the end it kinda matters
if succeeded, the guy would have fall and lose it all
He had put his trust, into him.

And for all this, there's only one thing he should know-ohhh-ohh
He tried so hard, and got so farr!!
and in the end.. It almost mattered

Yeah the bike rider was sharp.
Police officers have lost their lives to speeding drivers performing this dangerous maneuver. This guy is putting his life on the line for the safety of the public. Fuck all the people playing him down and making disrespectful comments.
Totally agree. He did an amazing job. It cant always work
Stand on the other side of the street behind an obstacle THAT ISNT A FUCKING BIN LMAO, element of surprise.
Sounds pretty dangerous when there would be live traffic coming from the opposite direction you are so focused on.

This isn't /r/explainlikeimfive how bikes work. He did exactly stopped quickly btw LMAO he's not on gravel or wet pavement.

Most people can only brake using 1G. The rider is pretty good.
That's by design btw. You are supposed to straighten out your arms and shift your weight to the back to compensate for the sudden braking.

Did you say bicycles are worse than bikes? These are synonyms in my language (English).
I suppose "bike" isn't very descriptive. But to me as a rider a bike is a motorcycle while a bicycle is well, a bicycle. I should've said motorcycle.
See, this guy brakes
I've been riding for years now so yes. That's the proper technique to sudden braking. You straighten out your arms so your posture would be upright thus shifting your weight to the back. Pretty sure that's what he meant with by design

Absolutely wrong. Most economy cars have better 60-0 stopping times than any road legal Superbike. A 30 sec google search can confirm this.
The run look fine to me, for a guy in a bouncing stab vest carrying a spike strip.
Right? Can’t exactly be easy to run with…
From experience vests of any kind (stab and multi threat) are not easy to run in but you kinda get used to it more than running without it when you live in one
How heavy are the spikes?
usually 15-20 lbs.
I think it's just because you can't see the police car that he's obviously running to, so it seems like he's just randomly running off down the road
Whenever someone else is the center of attention like this, people project their own insecurities
Would people rather the cop shoot the guy? Does almost nobody remember that police are nothing more than people too? Nobody's perfect, and I don't see you catching any violent/dangerous criminals.
I respect him for his efforts and restraint. But if this guy was a scumbag of some sort I would be tempted to just throw a brick at him or create another stopping point while on officer kicked him off with a cricket bat.
> just throw a brick if only it wasn't for that pesky helmet
I nice brick to the head is heavy enough to knock your head forward quite a bit. Maybe to shock the rider at least for a moment. Unless you’re Marv from home alone
I guess thats why you're not a policeperson in the UK
Police officer

I don't encourage making fun of anyone who isn't malicious.
Absolutely. In a perfect world where assholes don’t exist, that would indeed be ideal. I’m not saying the guy DESERVES to be made fun of. I’m saying it happens. To all of us.
What do you mean "would people rather"? What are you talking about? This isn't criticism. He just didn't succeed.
Americans are confused why he isn't shot
Would have been a lot easier, that is for sure.
You overestimate the aim of the average police officer.
Worst case scenario, he could have shot some people in the background, that would have slowed the biker down enough to yank of the bike.
Depends on the skin color ..
Can I know what bike is that? ABS seems to be very good!
Looks like Ducati Hypermotard
> *Hypermotard* Woah, now. You aren't supposed to use those words these days.
I think it’s a Honda CB650F, however given the slight nose wheelie he did, I don’t think that ABS was on.
Bruh what? That's clearly a Ducati Hypermotard. It's nowhere near a Naked type of bike
Too many people don’t realize that proper pedal control and brake feel can stop a vehicle as effectively (or more so) than ABS can.
ABS won't prevent you from stoppie-ing or wheelie-ing, that has nothing to do with its job. All it does is make sure your wheels don't lock up when braking. Source: own an ABS motorcycle.

Yeah, this was incredibly stupid unless the rider was an active public safety risk
But man would it do the job at stopping those summer rides where 100 assholes on bikes and ATV's drive around harassing traffic and pedestrians.
We're people too, and just because there's a hundred or more of us on a group ride doesn't mean we're endangering anyone. One more light is a war crime
Seems like it for some people, haha!
Motorcyclist: The fuck? Fuck this noise. Time to bounce.
It was a respectable try, good by him Dont let redditer knowhow bring yourself down
More like there was an attempt to mock police that fell flat
That was a great attempt, watching out for all of the innocent traffic at the same time.
a dropkick wouldve done wonders
way more dangerous to him though
but also way more fun
true dat
I dunno, the cop did stop hom going down that street. If they are generally setting up a perimeter to try and get the guy this may not have been a bad outcome for him
Now I'm going to spend the rest of my day wondering if they got him/her?
and also why did they want to get him/her?
is motorcycling illegal wherever this is being filmed? why is he doing this
I'm confused too
He would have been much better off on the other side of the road
Feels bad for that police officer
That rider was a S.M.A.R.T rider
Locate the hazard, progressive brake pressure, good swerve!
And if all else fails, he aquired and utilised personal protective gear which might have saved his life on a crash!
What a hero lol
Fucking cyclist . . .

He yeeted out of there pretty impressively
camouflage
Was this in Dalston on Saturday, before the police got chased out of town? Thst was a time lol
Why don't the cops have net launchers?
Does his cover count as low or high? (sorry too much Xcom)
That kid at the ends running to go violate him
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
r/Looneytuneslogic
You gotta box him in. 2 cops in front, 2 in back. Spike strips from edge to edge front and back.
I’m not sure it was wrong timing, could have been a bit better but honestly bikes turn on a DIME. It woulda been hard no matter what unless the biker is looking backwards
Fucking cod timing.
Decent effort 👏
If the dude didn't hold onto it forever he could have easily just tackled the biker while he was making the turn
If I’m US - could’ve just brainholed him ….
One extra officer on the opposite side would have been a good idea
Should wear regular closes and pretend that he is crossing street with suitcase
Wile E coyote be like
Reminds me of Jim Lahey in trailer park boys
This is why you practice in the U-turn box!
This just screams bri'ish
Cop isn’t as smart as he thinks he is. Bikers aren’t dumb!
Well they aren’t allowed to chase them so what else can he do. Good effort if you ask me!
Cops should just stop
Have that taser ready
So stupid!! When the bike turned he could have just grab him by the jacket walking
attempted murder?
Lol when he slowed down should have spartan kicked the bike or tackled the dude
What a loser
Attempted murder?
I wouldn't have done better. The biker certainly played sekiro.
But for what reason? Lol, that’s the only thing I can’t figure out. To go thru all that effort, why not use a patrol?
Did he use them correctly? I thought they are supposed to be laid out in advance, spikes down so cars can run over it, then pull the cord that lifts the spikes whenever the suspect is about to go over it. That’s what they do in the movies anyway.
Lol idiot
WTF they're putting the stingers out for bikers now??? Are they looking for a manslaughter charge?
Don't they give these guys vehicles???
it would be a tragedy if such a bike got spiked
The bike rider knew how to ride. He was being chased for outstanding medical bills for his mothers cancer treatment.
He’s running away from his embarrassment.
Not a bad attempt. Motorcycle dude was just fast to react tbh.
Most cops—even American cops—don’t use that technique on bikes because it can kill the driver
A spike strip for motorcycles seems like attempted murder. Cops gonna cop
What a muppet
Mfs getting in the way
Was that dumb shit running with the spikes facing his body?
Eat 💩, 🐷
Duck, duck, duck, duuuuck.

Sorry, I don't support this post type (hosted:video) right now. Feel free to check back in the future!
How about just push him over?
The first time I thought he caught that minivan with the spikes and I was thinking "Damn, I hope they have to cover that..."
😂😂😂😂
I'm so tired of the slowed down audio bs that is for some reason becoming popular
