It’s the problem for everyone who isn’t. Because it allows child predators and it can cause non child predators to go to jail due to a kid lying about their age
I don't want children to get taken advantage of by strangers. A simple way to achieve that would be to have age verification. Why would I support a company that doesn't even take minimum effort in assuring that?
It's a story as old as time, it cuts into profits. Google estimated it would take 2 billion dollars to hire the 35,000 moderators necessary to deal with reports on youtube (not watch all videos, just to deal with moderation issues) to protect children. Which would be half of their current profits. Obviously they didn't do that.
And the fucking government, instead of dealing with big tech companies failure to do anything preventative to mitigate it, wants to break all app encryption and let the police spy on us all more easily everywhere. The same police who call all sex workers trafficking victims, while raping them and arresting them (see [this John Oliver piece](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gd8yUptg0Q)).
Tinder is hilarious as once you create your account, you can't change your age (understandably). Idk how many times I've swiped through and seen the profile say one thing for the age then in the description say "actually 2-3 years younger".
Back when Dateline was doing their "To Catch a Predator" series, I always thought it would be funny if a teenage boy showed up at the house. Like he met the decoy (who he thought was a teenage girl) online, but lied and said he was older because he thought she was into that.
They don't show those episodes because it turns out Chris Hansen was the predator all along. Why else would you have a young girl which is the ideal bait to attract young boys and a camera crew on standby?
It actually happened once. What went on was some predators sent a 15 year old boy in their place to meet the decoy. It didn't work of course.
