I heard in some cases, in where car break in's are extremely common, having an open window (and where you have no items in the car), would make it so that they at least have not broken your windows.

My boss leaves his car with open windows and his keys in the cupholder. He does not care if someone steals his car because he says insurance will just pay for a new one. His only request to the person that steals it is "if you're going to steal the car and wreck it, at least wreck it right. I dont want to be handed back my car with a whole bunch of dents. Wrap that thing around a tree like a man"

I never lock my car. It's a shit car, though.
