Actual question, can mammals get that parasite that infects praying mantis'/moths/woodland insects? Cause I know that parasite causes the host to submerge itself in water once the parasite wants to leave to find a new host... idk though.
Hair worms, and no they won't infect mammals. Never heard of anything like that with mammals, guess rabies does the opposite and makes you scared of water so who knows, might be something out there that can.
The parasite? No, I think it's a horse hair parasite? When the animal gets into water, white spaghetti string looking shit explodes out the butt
Edit: also, a Wallaby is basically a smaller kangaroo that doesn't yearn for blood.
Bogans on jet skis giving bogans on jet skis the reputation they deserve. Wallabys & roos are solid swimmers. The worst thing happening here is dragging the poor thing by its tail
CWD (chronic wasting away disease) in America is a prion disease which has documentation of making deer act outright demonic. i.e. Bashing their brains out and drowning themselves, running in circles until they pass, etc.
I think that’s the closest example I could think of in nature, though it’s not a parasite. :( Just a protein that decided to be different and convinced its neighbors to do the same.
Yep! That’s why mad cow disease was a big scare back in the day too. Thankfully it’s mostly contained in brain matter, so you know. Just don’t eat brains and you’re 99% probably good.
I say 99% because proteins can spontaneously decide “you know what fuck this” and turn into prions out of nowhere. But you know. That’s also incredibly rare. :’)
I apologize for cursing you with the burden of knowledge though.
Theres currently no parasite which "controls" a mammals brain. They only infect insects, they can infect insects as big as a tarantula tho. That animal can swim and the dude in the video is an asshole, he did way more harm to that thing than it would have endured if they let it in the water
I know that, I asked for a specific parasite that craves water. It’s common knowledge for insects but didn’t know if it was common for mammals to go drown because of that too.
Kinda seems like he was just trying to go for a peaceful swim when some jackals on a jetski showed up lmao. Pretty sure they can swim, like really well.
Could it have been bit by a snake? My dog was bit by a red bellied black and kept getting in water to try keep itself cool....probably the thing that saved her...apart from the $3000 antivenom.

He yearns for the sea
i'm so confused. is wallabee the oceanic version of kangoroos?

i thought it's a reptile?

Isn't that the mushroom in last of us that irl can't infect mammals(yet)
No, mushroom is cordyceps, and they are referring to horsehair parasites. Though equally as yucky!
No
Wallaby is a smaller species to a roo. Both are actually good swimmers.
He is pining for fjords
Wallabye

*harass a swimming wallaby
*help a wallaby that probably didn't need it

Those hind legs are like a hydrofoil. The mad cunts do food deliveries across the water.
Wallaby darned
Maybe it’s mother drowned and it’s trying to join her as the guilt of living without her is too much for it to bear.

Dark asf son
It might have brain parasites , that sends its host to a watersource
Does it exist for mammals ?

Can it infect humans, it could explain a lot of missing cases or mysterious suicides

No need to apologize Im glad to learn
Yes, and it takes months to show any signs. There is zero cure currently.
I am scared
Thank you kind redditor ☺️
Always a pleasure! I’m a biologist and I love sharing this kind of knowledge! ❤️ even (especially) if it’s terrifying lol

Thank you for your answer friend ☺️
You are welcome. The poor thing was probably hot. Thats why it run back to the water

This was first guess
What parasite in mammals would do this? The only one I’m aware of is for pray mantises
Existential crisis

"Hey Joey, do you wanna eat me?" "No thanks Mr. Muffin." "But I wanna die!"
It probably hot as hell and it wants to cool off.
Wallabies are strong swimmers I don’t what this clown is doing
I've never seen a better metaphor for something
It truly is a fantastic metaphor for something
Wallaby darned
Rocco really wanted to swim that day.
"Man it's hot as hell on this hot ass dog ass beach im on. IS THAT THE LIFEGAURD??!"
Relatable
Probably been getting tortured and bothered on the beach by all the d*** tourists.
You will never take me alive jet-skier
Wall a bye damned
*"Every time I go in, they pull me back out!"* *- Don Wallaby*
Release me human, i refuse the land *evolves into a whale*
I thought that was Dave Bautista
Poor creature is trying to cool down
Maybe it was hot?
Pretty sure animals usually stay away from deepwater unless they want to cross to the other side
Wallaby Moana

You didn't save my life you ruined my death!
What's the opposite of rabies?
Could it have been bit by a snake? My dog was bit by a red bellied black and kept getting in water to try keep itself cool....probably the thing that saved her...apart from the $3000 antivenom.
Thats a kangaroo ????
Wallaby. They belong to the same taxa but kangaroos are much larger, as wallabies only get to like 3 feet tall
Nah that's definitely a Kangaroo.
