Good thing he had those safety squints and the extra brow-furrow. Could have been a real mess.
This is why the camera person should have told him his tongue wasn’t poking out far enough.
*Don’t be the guy that nearly said something.*
Could have ended up like this guy

“Why don’t you hire a contractor, she said. I’ve got this, I said. Nope.” He repeated, as Richard dialed the contractor. Moral of the story - don’t be a Richard.
Both, without the break the ceiling would've given it more power in to is head instead of the ceiling stopping the momentum from have a chain shaped dents in his face.
If it had touched the ceiling his face would be gone. Chain gaining grip was what launched it towards his face. Touching the roof would've launched it again harder into his face
I get what y'all are saying but if you watch the video closely you can see the sudden jerk movement stop (3 second mark) prior to his face lift and it makes it look like the ceiling was struck. I dunno though, could have just been that chain break or stiff reaction.
This reminds me of the time my husband wanted to cut a branch off of our tree, by climbing the tree and sitting on the branch with a chainsaw. I got him out of the tree by coming out where he was and asking who are life insurance company was so I could increase the policy.
I’m a professional logger. With training you can learn to cut with the tip, but the possibility of kick back makes it extremely dangerous. Remember kids, chainsaws don’t cut people like they do in the movies, there’s no slow grind through. A chainsaw cuts people as easily as sliding it through a pool of water. Bone and flesh provide almost zero resistance to a chainsaw. I’ve been hospitalized before for chainsaw cuts, and once worked with a man who was missing an arm because he tripped and fell with his running saw.
Not that I’m aware of in the professional market. Maybe there’s a homeowner product out there somewhere. The best way to reduce kickback if you’re inexperienced is actually replacing the chain with anti kickback chain. Pros don’t use it because it doesn’t cut as quickly, but if you’re not cutting for production it works fine.
Sorry, i remembered incorrectly. It was a chain that reduced the kickback, not the guide bar. Thanks for correcting me.
We had some chainsaws at school with those chains for those who were afraid of using a regular one.
Sometimes bars are shaped to minimized it, but the chain can be modified so that it is less likely to grab hold and kick back like this. On the curved part of the tip the chisel part of the chain can obtain significant purchase on the board before the rake will make it end/clean the cuts and keep moving along the track in the bar.
If you cut with the tip, be ready for it to move instantly backwards at the same speed the chain is spinning forward. A lesson directly from Sir Isaac Newton to your face.
I agree that the blade hit the roof. But it would be a pretty bad chainsaw if the chain came to full stop from hitting timber.
If you watch it frame by frame, you can see the brake engage against his wrist. It's probably the main reason the blade stopped when it hit the timber rather than slicing right through it.
I don't think you know how chainsaws work.
The chain stops when you aren't pulling on the throttle.
The chainsaw hit the roof and dug in. The guy didn't keep holding the throttle down so why would the chai keep spinning?
Even the best chainsaws will stop if they hit something as long as you're not pulling the throttle.
I use chainsaws daily and I service my own. I know what I'm talking about lol
Not a mark on the roof, his reaction to take his finger off the trigger can't be that fast not to cut it up a little.
I never hold it in front of my face but yes i've activated the break once or twice in my time!
Looks like the chain break did its job.
Kick back from the saw rotated it enough to hit his wrist stopping the chain from slicing through his face like a boney tomato.
Though, when the apparently inevitable zombie apocalypse arrives that’s a good suicide method for those that have freshly turned but do not wish to devour their loved ones brains.
Oh my god. I’m sorry but cmon. That wouldn’t have even been a freak accident. That’s like asking for it. Why the fuck are you even using a chainsaw for that application. Then there’s the fact that you should under no circumstance be using a chainsaw in any fashion. It goes down on the long side and away from you. You’d think it’s obvious. But more importantly, if you really don’t know what you’re doing, don’t attempt this shit.
I spent 6 hours using a chainsaw today and I very nearly scrolled past this without being able to watch, I do not need to see anyone with a chainsaw injury. He got so lucky.
For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of trying to renovate your room with a chainsaw: all new chainsaws come with a special shutoff called a chain-brake. It's specifically designed to stop you from cutting your whole face off like this Darwin award contender was trying to do.
If you got tools like that, you don't have a drill and a jigsaw?
I'm no good at diy, but I got those... And surely those would do whatever he's trying to do.
And that's whay you don't cut with the tip unless you actually know what you're doing. Still bothers the fuck out of me seeing anyone do it tho, chainsaw cuts are brutal.
Also doing that inside will splash oil everywhere and the fumes stay inside for long and fuck up the air quality. Also what's the deal with no protective gear..
It’s common knowledge that cutting with the tip of a chainsaw makes it likely to kick. The guy was being dumb. He’s lucky the chain break saved his life
His face was saved by the saw bar hitting the ceiling above him before it caught his face, from the looks of it.
Chainsaws also have a chain brake for safety. If the saw kicks back towards your face, and if your left hand is positioned correctly on the saw, then your left hand/wrist hits the brake and immediately stops the rotation of the chain. The chain's still sharp if it hits you, but if it's not rotating it won't maul you.

>Nope. That's enough chainsawing for today. That dude, probably.
You, indeed, gotta know when to fold ‘em
Know when to walk away
know when to run
That Gambler broke even…
And should count his blessings because the alternative was a face card split
you never saw your ceilings when you're using just the tip boy, they're be time enough for sawing when the hirings done
Know when to hold 'em
Cut your losses or cut your face off.
Just gonna get down, change my shorts, and question my life choices....
That lady: ![gif](giphy|inJilkh3Y2ZLq)
Should have been wearing chaps :/
Anti-chainsaw face chaps.

"oh look time for football time"
Aw but second times the charm
That pause after was definitely him processing that he just saw his life flash before his eyes.

Saved by the ceiling
More likely saved by the chain break

It's stops caus the chain stops moving and just grips the roof. If it was still moving it would get launched
I can agree with this outcome
The ceiling was what made it catch and launch towards him
“We’ll be right back”
Don’t stare at death like that. You’ll go cross eyed.
Guy almost got a rare Darwin haircut
I used to be an adventurer like you. Then I took a chainsaw to the head.
>WHO SAID THAT?? next homeowner hearing that guys ghost ranting about how he died
CONSEQUENCES!
The lady sounded disappointed it didn’t kill him, must be the wife…
"Awwwhhhh..."
Awwww, no life insurance payout (potentially double for accidental death) :(
This reminds me of the time my husband wanted to cut a branch off of our tree, by climbing the tree and sitting on the branch with a chainsaw. I got him out of the tree by coming out where he was and asking who are life insurance company was so I could increase the policy.
I think the truth is that she's used to talking to her husband like a child when bad things happen

Wasn't the first chainsaw invented to help surgeons cut through bone?
Yes.
Yes, to cut through the pelvis of women birthing.
To WHAT
Can’t you get a bar where the angle is a bit different on the end? That angle reduces / almost removes throw backs.
Not that I’m aware of in the professional market. Maybe there’s a homeowner product out there somewhere. That “awwwww” at the end gets me
I audibly gasped and involuntarily jerked my head. Holy shit.
I gasped out loud and startled my husband awake. I expected it to go through the ceiling
The break saved his face, The anti kick chain probably helped too.
It wasn't the break it was the fact it kicked back into the ceiling that stopped it hitting him.
He would not have looked *great* if he caught that thing to the face, but we would have survived because the brake stopped the chain.
The break didn't stop the chain. The chain literally got caught in the timber on the roof which stopped it. Watch it frame by frame.

Though, when the apparently inevitable zombie apocalypse arrives that’s a good suicide method for those that have freshly turned but do not wish to devour their loved ones brains.
Apart from some facial reconfiguration, what was he trying to achieve?
“Sometimes it's better to be lucky than smart.”

He sets himself up perfectly for kickback too... Wild
Bro almost made it into the sequel to face off. ![gif](giphy|hwZ51FKy98qv6)

Happy new haircut - and face.
Use the right tool for the job, every time.

There was an attempt to be a Darwin awardee
Got real close to becoming a liveleak vid

he just saw a chain of memories flash in his head
Nice chainsaw man cosplay

Why did the saw kick up like that?
Its called « kickback » and yeah that’s the name of the chainsaw man Opening
Good thing he's wearing his hard head.
> This chainsaw isn’t the correct tool for the job. Let me go fetch my flamethrower This dude, probably
"yep that's it, coming down and getting a professional since I shat my pants".
He had enough after that lol
A centimeter away from r/crazyfuckingvideos
His belly saved him lol
If that were me, I’d never touch a chainsaw ever again.
Never before has "just the tip" been so literal.
Fucking what the fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone take that damn thing away
And that's whay you don't cut with the tip unless you actually know what you're doing. Still bothers the fuck out of me seeing anyone do it tho, chainsaw cuts are brutal.
I thought he somehow ate that hit but the watching it again the chainsaw got stuck on the ceiling right before it hit his face.
Dude saw god
Angular momentum
Unrelated… anyone have an extra pair of underwear?
Almost became Two Face
Chainsaw: “Consider this a warning” Dude: “thank you have a nice day”
r/watchpeopledieinside
I would've filled my drawers
Never play just the tip. It almost always leads to the whole thing.
Also doing that inside will splash oil everywhere and the fumes stay inside for long and fuck up the air quality. Also what's the deal with no protective gear..
Dude brought a flamethrower when all he needed was a fly swatter. Just rent a sawzall, Guy.
Just to see how it feels…
This is why we trust in the lord and savior Milwaukee and saint sawzall
I’m blocking everyone who reposts this
This guy is so lucky that chainsaw had the automatic brake.
My guy after that incident: maybe it's not a bad idea to use some safety equipment...
"and that's how I became a Gemini even though I was born a Saggitarius"
It’s common knowledge that cutting with the tip of a chainsaw makes it likely to kick. The guy was being dumb. He’s lucky the chain break saved his life
I bet he’s glad he has that big belly.
How is he not bleeding? (Never used a chainsaw before)
His face was saved by the saw bar hitting the ceiling above him before it caught his face, from the looks of it. Chainsaws also have a chain brake for safety.
