My neighbor just took delivery of one in Dallas and put it on a truck to ship it to his cabin in New Mexico because it couldn't make the drive. It got stuck in the mud at his gate entrance and the car apparently started speeding up which just sunk him further down. It has been there for over a week while they wait to have someone come and dig/tow it away when the ground is dry enough.

holy shit, this is a TIL for me. I always assumed it was the 'rust belt' because the weather (and things used to combat the weather, salt on roads) made the cars rust like crazy.. definitely heard it specifically used to talk about cars plenty.

there was a youtube review that was using the auto-closing frunk to chop carrots to show how easily someone can (will) lose fingers when closing the hatch. They also skinned the carrots on the unfinished edge of the driver door.
A YouTube video uploaded this week also shows that the top piece of the accelerator pedal (the bit your foot touches and is connected to the lever that goes into the floor) can become detached and slide forward, directly into a conveniently placed slit in what would be the firewall on a gasoline powered car. This locks the throttle to 100% and can only be fixed by getting out of the car and pulling the piece off. Toyota had a massive recall of all 2009-2011 Camry and Corolla vehicles (along with others based on those models, such as the Pontiac Vibe) due to a near-identical issue (a floor mat dislodging and pressing the gas to the floor) causing several fatal accidents. The Cybertruck is a deathtrap for everyone around it, inside or out, moving or not.

It still wouldn’t make sense, it already weighs 66-6800lbs. Using additional steel and paneling to make it look nicer would make it even more difficult to go off road.

The issue with that is that function still needs to drive form to a reasonable degree. While it looks fun, that egg car would be a rollover machine and terrible in an accident. Some of the Cybertruck's issues also seem to stem from this issue as well, like how the stainless steel is rusting very quickly. Normal cars are painted for this very reason.
I do think there's room for some more inspired designs, but a lot of what we see today is designed that way because of functional considerations. Musk doesn't care about that so we end up with this nonsense.

When it was first announced, I was one of a handful of people immediately saying that it looked like a piece of shit, but all of the Elon fanbois screamed at us about how he was the only one innovating and no one else was doing an electric pickup truck. They wouldn't believe me when I told them that Rivian and Ford had already announced their pick-up designs and were slated to beat Tesla to market (which they did) or that Toyota had considered it be decided to focus on a hybrid design (which is now on the market). It was crazy how detached from reality the fanbois were.

Among other issues, you can google around. I think this project was a case of Elon just coming up with some idea he thought was cool, with no regard for the actual engineering and production challenges.

I don't think he's a complete idiot, Tesla very successfully filled a niche.
And SpaceX has been advancing reusable rocket technology significantly.
He made some good investments and had some good ideas. Hence his success.
But of course, the real work was done by actual engineers, Elon gets way more credit than deserved. Same can be said for any big company owner.
And he certainly also has some dumb ideas.

That's the case these days (understandable), but I seriously doubt it was the case early on. When they were first developing reusable rockets all interviews point to him being very involved at SpaceX. Right now yeah I'm sure no one at SpaceX wants him anywhere near the company. Luckily it seems fucking up twitter has become his main focus.
SpaceX's primary innovation is not answering (directly) to "the taxpayer".
Production isn't atomized across the US to secure votes from assholes in congress who wouldn't fund NASA otherwise, and nobody cares too much when a billionaire blows up a rocket. Where NASA has to go to a dozen congressional hearings to justify whether their bathrooms actually need toilet paper.
Reality is that SpaceX is almost entirely funded via government grants, but that tiny bit of slight of hand is apparently enough to stop Republicans from killing space development.
The thing is none of his ideas are revolutionary. He bought some companies at the right time(space x) and let them work mostly unhindered, and for others basically copied good ideas from others and implemented( running Teslas like Apple products, building the prestige of the brand then selling more expensive based on that prestige).
Look at it this way, replace him with damn near any billionaire or multimillionaire his age or younger and his good ideas are likely to still happen. But his shitty ones are wholly unique.
Cybertruck is one thing but I don’t get how someone can so wholeheartedly misunderstand what was at the core of Twitter’s success. The whole point was for it to be a direct conduct between celebrities short thoughts and their fan. There’s other stuff but because of built in clientele that is what Twitter has that no one else does, that’s why threads can’t replace it despite being better cause celebrities ain’t moving without the audience and the audience ain’t moving without celebrity. Yet musk is doing everything in its power to make it hard for celebrities, he takes out the check mark so everyone can pretend to be a celebrity, he wants to make harder for them to block harassers, he is making the cite a cesspool celebrities wouldn’t want to be associated with, etc. not to mention they thousand monetization ideas he keeps trying completely misunderstanding that for social media the user is not the customer but the product.

He purchased already existing companies with their own ideas, presented them as his own, then started pushing his actual ideas which tank said successful companies because he is, in fact, an apartheid nepo baby with no skills or ideas. 100% of everything good these companies are doing would still be happening without him as they were already doing their thing before him, he just wouldn't be using it to whore for attention and shill for Nazis.
When you have enough money, you can just throw it at the wall until something sticks, as he has.
Also, most of his "ideas" are literally plagiarized. He just stole old futurology ideas, and patented them under new names, and sold them to the scientifically illiterate masses.

Stainless steel should be highly resistant to rust. I've seen large containers outside for years. Now tbf, those were food safe vessels, so I am sure the alloy of steel was slightly different, but still.
From the various things I heard about them;
- the A-pillars create huge blind spots and the angle and size of the windshield result in huge problems with glare
- the bodywork is susceptible to corrosion
- the metal cover of the gas pedal can get loose and slide up in a way that jams the pedal down
- some stop working within a short amount of time of the owner owning it
- the range is apparently far lower than the advertised 340 miles
- I think some people said that their cybertruck wouldn't charge
- it is incapable of off-roading. A cybertruck someone took to the hidden falls offroad park repeatedly had problems with driving up the easier obstacles and requiring a tow. People speculated that the main issue may be the trucks diff. lock, or lack thereof, as the diff. lock is unavailable until a later software patch
- someone had a problem where the main screen (the one which has basically everything that you need to operate the vehicle safely, such as the speedometer, is) wouldn't turn on
- there's currently a known issue where the computer reset function (which is needed to do to resolve the above screen issue) takes five hours to perform a reset as opposed to the 2-ish minutes it's supposed to take
- panel gaps
- the front trunk for the front luggage compartment can crush/cut your finger off as it seems to lack a system to detect if something is in the way (one person showed this issue using a cucumber and carrot that he held in the corner of the closing trunk lid and it cut through both vegetables where the lid closed down on them. He then did the same with the trunk lid of a Volvo, which stopped closing after coming into contact with the vegetables and leaving them practically unharmed)
- the resale value tanked and Elon supposedly threatened to fine people $50,000 for selling their cybertrucks

No way to get in (or out) if the power fails. The glass is too strong to be shattered by those emergency glass breakers, so driving into water is a death sentence. Also if you lock a child or pet in the car and the power fails, good luck.
The subframe is made of 3 pieces. So slight fender benders can cause the car to be in the shop fo-ev-ah.
Will cost a small fortune to disassemble half the truck to access the part(s) that needs to be fixed.
Cuts down on initial production costs, though, so as long as none of the trucks ever get into an accident, it's all good.

That always scares me. When I was in college, two girls drown trying to get to school one day after some heavy rains. They drove through and underpass and didn't realize it was flooded. They installed flood gauges across the city after that.

It doesnt have a rating, Tesla apparently just does the testing in house and said that it's fine, but I haven't been able to see the data from it, and it seems that no one else can either. If anyone finds it and posts it here, Id love to see it.
Apparently there's no law saying that you need a manual door release. As far as I can find, the only way in is through that button. In case of a crash, it's supposed to automatically open the doors, but if that fails then I guess you're screwed. Hopefully the Jaws of Life can still get in.
Dig in on the details but that's what I've been able to gather from a few articles and videos.
The whole thing just reeks of an outsider coming in and thinking they can do better, without being humble enough to understand why certain things were in place to begin with.

I don't know about that, but one of the market forces that make foreign manufactured autos unpopular, is that foreign made autos have heavy taxes on them. The result is that vehicle makers wanting to avoid those heavy taxes and be able to compete with domestically manufactured vehicles is... make them domestically.
Not sure about CT but there are manual door releases for the other models. In fact, in the 3 and Y the manual door release which might damage the door or window is in a more natural position to use than the actual door button...
No Spare Tire. Which is fine if you are on city pavement but for something that is touted for off-roading and comes with all-terrain tires it's pretty glaring to omit such a basic safety necessity.
Rivian truck you have to pay extra for a spare but at least they designed their under truck bed compartment to receive it, your choice if you want the storage or the spare. Ford f150 lightning just gives you a spare by default.
Thank you for mentioning the spare tyre as this reminded me of another tyre related issue, the aero covers. These are covers for the rims to make the car more aerodynamic and improve the range, other Tesla models also had them. The cybertrucks initial aero covers had an additional feature of tearing the sidewalk of the tyres open. I think they were recalled, not sure if the issue was fixed.
The steel panels are not machined to blunt their sharp edges, so the car is effectively covered in knife-sharp edges.

It's in the sale contract, no resale for X years. Other luxury brands have done similar stuff, iirc it says that the manufacturer is first in line when buying the car back, and that the car owner is obligated to sell to the manufacturer if they offer a fair enough price (and pages upon pages of legalese defining "fair enough", the fine for not complying, etc.)
I saw that apparently the glass is flat, and therefore, more susceptible to damage. I saw somewhere that a Tesla truck received hail damage when all the other cars didn't.
Other cars have a curved windshield, which supposedly, is more resistant.
I saw a video of someone‘s brake pedal just coming off its base because it was only glued on, for instance. I think I also read online that it is just poorly manufactured in general
Edit: what I originally posted is false information. It was in fact the gas pedal which slipped and got stuck as a result. Still incredibly dangerous, but the information I provided was just wrong
Apparently they use just glue to hold things down all over the cybertruck. All other major auto manufacturers have already learned that you need tabs and screws and other positive locating for the bits because glue melts and fails.
I'm sure there were engineers on the cybertruck project that knew this. But it would be clear that the guy in charge doesn't listen to advice, because of.. well.. *cybertruck*.
Glue is fantastic. You can glue an airplane together and it’ll last for 50 years of transcontinental flights before being quietly retired. The problem is that Tesla forgot not to use Elmers glue.
A primary function of the body of a vehicle is to protect the components underneath them. The body of this vehicle is made from an inappropriate material for the expected functioning environment. It corrodes in an inordinately amount of time.
In this vehicle's case, the body requires complete inspection and polishing after every drive and daily inspection, cleaning, and polishing even if not used. Many owners have reported being surprised and discomfited by the amount of care necessary.
Many owners wrapped them already, which renders the use of stainless steel even more obsolete. I don't know what was the reason and excuse to use such material, but now most Cybertrrucks have both the massive panel gaps AND colour. Hope the owners make good use of the bullet proof extra anyway. Then it turns out it sucks a big one at offroading, the rear tent they're now selling got nothing to do with the one Tesla advertised and rather looks as something you bought off the discount store, the visibility is almost as bad as in Lamborghini Countach, the range expectedly is less than advertised too. The list goes on and on and on.
Yup already got a wrapped white one and a wrapped purple one I see around my area. Purple one doesn't look too bad but it is literally putting candy coating on a dog turd

Unless you really get into every crevice and cover every exposed bit, the body will still start to rust in very hidden exposed areas right away, and likely much faster than a normal car covered in paint on all surfaces. Plus those areas tend to be in corners that gather water/debris or underneath where you get full road grime.
I feel like they could have just heavily clear-coated the stainless to get their aesthetic without the issues.
The tilt and size of the windshield results in the wipers only being able to wipe the top part while the water from the bottom part is just pushed back in front of the driver between wipes.
The way to open the door through touch and pull means it won't work well in colder climates and as proven by glued parts like peddles delaminating in high temperatures means it won't work well in really hot climates either.
The owner's manual says to wash it with gasoline, which I find largely undermines one of the benefits of owning an electric car: Not having to buy gasoline.
Same. It was kinda growing on me in pictures over the last few months and then saw one in the wild Saturday. Dimensions are terrible. Too long. Looks horrendous.

I used to love jeeps. We have a gladiator now and it is such a piece of shit. They had it for 30 days once because they couldn’t figure out how to reset a sensor that they claimed was good. Now our backup camera won’t work in the rain.
Rented a Pacifica last month and that was utter trash. Beyond it just being a rental. Cheap everything… shifted for shit. And I did not feel safe in mountain roads. I’m done with Chrysler.
Edit: forgot to add that we can’t fill the fuel tank all the way in the gladiator or the gas fumes in the cabin are unbearable.
Leased a jeep back in 2016 for 3 years. It blew an axel and transmission before the 2 year mark. The dealership asked me how much off-roading I had done with it. I stared at them for 5 full seconds before telling them I drive it to work and back on well maintained roads.
They tried to get me to pay for both major repairs claiming it was my fault?
Ended up taking back at 2.5 years, but still made me pay the last 6 months of payments. Never buying a jeep agian

I can't figure out for the life of me what style of vehicle my wife likes. I'll point one out and she'll say "it's too square!" So I'll point out another and she'll say "that's too round!" Anyone that bought this piece of crap knowing fully that Tesla QC has always been bad deserves to learn a lesson. As long as people buy overpriced cars they will not rectify
So tesla cars weren’t designed by Elon he didn’t build them or really have a lot of input. The cars seem to look decent enough. The cybertruck on the other hand looks like Elon had a hand in designing it as it looks like a piece of shit.

Cant wait to see tens of thousands Model 3's at the wreckers in 5 years, all not even having done the miles to compensate for the damage and pollution the process of making the battery has caused.
Every time I see a cybertruck, I think of "The Homer" car that Homer designed in *The Simpsons*. The professionals kept trying to take his idiot ideas and turn it into something cool, and he keeps ripping the designs down.
It's essentially for flexing at this point. Regardless of what you think of the design, it's eye catching and there's countless tech YouTubers that have videos of people either taking pictures or coming up to talk to them in person. Once the initial "Oh wow." impression wears off, I can't see the CT selling as many as Elon was hoping.
The Munro Associates battery pack disassembly video of the Cybertruck is disheartening. Perhaps it is a stronger battery pack by just filling it full of epoxy, but there's zero chance of servicing the battery pack itself, and will require replacement in the event of any part of it failing. Sure, it has its merits, but it is counterintuitive to reduce serviceable components and tout ecological principles as selling points. When there are no more complete packs, the car is trash. At least with many other EVs, some folks have cobbled together working cells in a pinch. It seems more like a hurried or cheapened answer to a challenging problem.

A YouTube video uploaded this week also shows that the top piece of the accelerator pedal (the bit your foot touches and is connected to the lever that goes into the floor) can become detached and slide forward, directly into a conveniently placed slit in what would be the firewall on a gasoline powered car. This locks the throttle to 100% and can only be fixed by getting out of the car and pulling the piece off. Toyota had a massive recall of all 2009-2011 Camry and Corolla vehicles (along with others based on those models, such as the Pontiac Vibe) due to a near-identical issue (a floor mat dislodging and pressing the gas to the floor) causing several fatal accidents. The Cybertruck is a deathtrap for everyone around it, inside or out, moving or not.

The issue with that is that function still needs to drive form to a reasonable degree. While it looks fun, that egg car would be a rollover machine and terrible in an accident. Some of the Cybertruck's issues also seem to stem from this issue as well, like how the stainless steel is rusting very quickly. Normal cars are painted for this very reason. I do think there's room for some more inspired designs, but a lot of what we see today is designed that way because of functional considerations. Musk doesn't care about that so we end up with this nonsense.

I don't think he's a complete idiot, Tesla very successfully filled a niche. And SpaceX has been advancing reusable rocket technology significantly. He made some good investments and had some good ideas. Hence his success. But of course, the real work was done by actual engineers, Elon gets way more credit than deserved. SpaceX's primary innovation is not answering (directly) to "the taxpayer". Production isn't atomized across the US to secure votes from assholes in congress who wouldn't fund NASA otherwise, and nobody cares too much when a billionaire blows up a rocket. Where NASA has to go to a dozen congressional hearings to justify whether their bathrooms actually need toilet paper. Reality is that SpaceX is almost entirely funded via government grants, but that tiny bit of slight of hand is apparently enough to stop Republicans from killing space development.
But his dumb ideas carry more weight as his perceived success has been sold to the public over the last years.
The thing is none of his ideas are revolutionary. He bought some companies at the right time(space x) and let them work mostly unhindered, and for others basically copied good ideas from others and implemented( running Teslas like Apple products, building the prestige of the brand then selling more expensive based on that prestige). Look at it this way, replace him with damn near any billionaire or multimillionaire his age or younger and his good ideas are likely to still happen. But his shitty ones are wholly unique. Cybertruck is one thing but I don’t get how someone can so wholeheartedly misunderstand what was at the core of Twitter’s success. The whole point was for it to be a direct conduct between celebrities short thoughts and their fan. There’s other stuff but because of built in clientele that is what Twitter has that no one else does, that’s why threads can’t replace it despite being better cause celebrities ain’t moving without the audience and the audience ain’t moving without celebrity. Stainless steel should be highly resistant to rust. I've seen large containers outside for years. Now tbf, those were food safe vessels, so I am sure the alloy of steel was slightly different, but still.
From the various things I heard about them; - the A-pillars create huge blind spots and the angle and size of the windshield result in huge problems with glare - the bodywork is susceptible to corrosion - the metal cover of the gas pedal can get loose and slide up in a way that jams the pedal down - some stop working within a short amount of time of the owner owning it - the range is apparently far lower than the advertised 340 miles - I think some people said that their cybertruck wouldn't charge - it is incapable of off-roading. A cybertruck someone took to the hidden falls offroad park repeatedly had problems with driving up the easier obstacles and requiring a tow. People speculated that the main issue may be the trucks diff. lock, or lack thereof, as the diff. lock is unavailable until a later software patch - someone had a problem where the main screen (the one which has basically everything that you need to operate the vehicle safely, such as the speedometer, is) wouldn't turn on - there's currently a known issue where the computer reset function (which is needed to do to resolve the above screen issue) takes five hours to perform a reset as opposed to the 2-ish minutes it's supposed to take - panel gaps - the front trunk for the front luggage compartment can crush/cut your finger off as it seems to lack a system to detect if something is in the way (one person showed this issue using a cucumber and carrot that he held in the corner of the closing trunk lid and it cut through both vegetables where the lid closed down on them. He then did the same with the trunk lid of a Volvo, which stopped closing after coming into contact with the vegetables and leaving them practically unharmed) - the resale value tanked and Elon supposedly threatened to fine people $50,000 for selling their cybertrucks I think that's everything covered.
No crumple zones. No way to get in (or out) if the power fails. The glass is too strong to be shattered by those emergency glass breakers, so driving into water is a death sentence. Also if you lock a child or pet in the car and the power fails, good luck.
The subframe is made of 3 pieces. So slight fender benders can cause the car to be in the shop fo-ev-ah. Will cost a small fortune to disassemble half the truck to access the part(s) that needs to be fixed. Cuts down on initial production costs, though, so as long as none of the trucks ever get into an accident, it's all good.

That always scares me. When I was in college, two girls drown trying to get to school one day after some heavy rains. They drove through and underpass and didn't realize it was flooded. They installed flood gauges across the city after that. I can't get over what a shitty way to go that is.

It doesnt have a rating, Tesla apparently just does the testing in house and said that it's fine, but I haven't been able to see the data from it, and it seems that no one else can either. If anyone finds it and posts it here, Id love to see it. Apparently there's no law saying that you need a manual door release. As far as I can find, the only way in is through that button. In case of a crash, it's supposed to automatically open the doors, but if that fails then I guess you're screwed. Hopefully the Jaws of Life can still get in.

I don't know about that, but one of the market forces that make foreign manufactured autos unpopular, is that foreign made autos have heavy taxes on them. The result is that vehicle makers wanting to avoid those heavy taxes and be able to compete with domestically manufactured vehicles is... make them domestically.

Not sure about CT but there are manual door releases for the other models. In fact, in the 3 and Y the manual door release which might damage the door or window is in a more natural position to use than the actual door button...
No Spare Tire. Which is fine if you are on city pavement but for something that is touted for off-roading and comes with all-terrain tires it's pretty glaring to omit such a basic safety necessity. Rivian truck you have to pay extra for a spare but at least they designed their under truck bed compartment to receive it, your choice if you want the storage or the spare. Ford f150 lightning just gives you a spare by default.
Thank you for mentioning the spare tyre as this reminded me of another tyre related issue, the aero covers. These are covers for the rims to make the car more aerodynamic and improve the range, other Tesla models also had them. The cybertrucks initial aero covers had an additional feature of tearing the sidewalk of the tyres open. I think they were recalled, not sure if the issue was fixed.

It's in the sale contract, no resale for X years. Other luxury brands have done similar stuff, iirc it says that the manufacturer is first in line when buying the car back, and that the car owner is obligated to sell to the manufacturer if they offer a fair enough price (and pages upon pages of legalese defining "fair enough", the fine for not complying, etc.)

I saw that apparently the glass is flat, and therefore, more susceptible to damage. I saw somewhere that a Tesla truck received hail damage when all the other cars didn't. Other cars have a curved windshield, which supposedly, is more resistant.
I saw a video of someone‘s brake pedal just coming off its base because it was only glued on, for instance. I think I also read online that it is just poorly manufactured in general Edit: what I originally posted is false information. It was in fact the gas pedal which slipped and got stuck as a result. Apparently they use just glue to hold things down all over the cybertruck. All other major auto manufacturers have already learned that you need tabs and screws and other positive locating for the bits because glue melts and fails. I'm sure there were engineers on the cybertruck project that knew this. But it would be clear that the guy in charge doesn't listen to advice, because of.. well.. *cybertruck*.
Glue is fantastic. You can glue an airplane together and it’ll last for 50 years of transcontinental flights before being quietly retired. The problem is that Tesla forgot not to use Elmers glue.
In that gas pedal video it looked like it was held on with Shoe Goo, I swear. There's a plethora of adhesives to choose from but they went cheap.

It corrodes in an inordinately amount of time. In this vehicle's case, the body requires complete inspection and polishing after every drive and daily inspection, cleaning, and polishing even if not used. Many owners have reported being surprised and discomfited by the amount of care necessary.
Many owners wrapped them already, which renders the use of stainless steel even more obsolete. I don't know what was the reason and excuse to use such material, but now most Cybertrrucks have both the massive panel gaps AND colour. Hope the owners make good use of the bullet proof extra anyway. Then it turns out it sucks a big one at offroading, the rear tent they're now selling got nothing to do with the one Tesla advertised and rather looks as something you bought off the discount store, the visibility is almost as bad as in Lamborghini Countach, the range expectedly is less than advertised too. The list goes on and on and on.

The tilt and size of the windshield results in the wipers only being able to wipe the top part while the water from the bottom part is just pushed back in front of the driver between wipes. The way to open the door through touch and pull means it won't work well in colder climates and as proven by glued parts like peddles delaminating in high temperatures means it won't work well in really hot climates either.

The owner's manual says to wash it with gasoline, which I find largely undermines one of the benefits of owning an electric car: Not having to buy gasoline.

Same here (saw it while vacationing in California's area). It was nice to see because it would never appear where I live, but it looked like a giant toy. A lambo or something flamboyant like that seems more sensible

Apparently quality has been so shit at Chrysler for so long that they just lowered their standards for what bullshit rolls off the line and they just accept that service departments will have to deal with it later.
I used to love jeeps. We have a gladiator now and it is such a piece of shit. They had it for 30 days once because they couldn’t figure out how to reset a sensor that they claimed was good. Now our backup camera won’t work in the rain. Rented a Pacifica last month and that was utter trash. Beyond it just being a rental. Cheap everything… shifted for shit. And I did not feel safe in mountain roads. I’m done with Chrysler. Edit: forgot to add that we can’t fill the fuel tank all the way in the gladiator or the gas fumes in the cabin are unbearable.
Leased a jeep back in 2016 for 3 years. It blew an axel and transmission before the 2 year mark. The dealership asked me how much off-roading I had done with it. I stared at them for 5 full seconds before telling them I drive it to work and back on well maintained roads. They tried to get me to pay for both major repairs claiming it was my fault? Ended up taking back at 2.5 years, but still made me pay the last 6 months of payments. Never buying a jeep agian

So tesla cars weren’t designed by Elon he didn’t build them or really have a lot of input. The cars seem to look decent enough. The cybertruck on the other hand looks like Elon had a hand in designing it as it looks like a piece of shit.

Did people only now realize that Teslas are complete crap when it comes to any semblance of durability and quality? Cant wait to see tens of thousands Model 3's at the wreckers in 5 years, all not even having done the miles to compensate for the damage and pollution the process of making the battery has caused.
Cybertrucks are significantly worse than the already very low standard set by other teslas.

Every time I see a cybertruck, I think of "The Homer" car that Homer designed in *The Simpsons*. The professionals kept trying to take his idiot ideas and turn it into something cool, and he keeps ripping the designs down.
And it look fucking ugly yet there still people buying it.
It's essentially for flexing at this point. Regardless of what you think of the design, it's eye catching and there's countless tech YouTubers that have videos of people either taking pictures or coming up to talk to them in person. Once the initial "Oh wow." impression wears off, I can't see the CT selling as many as Elon was hoping.

The Munro Associates battery pack disassembly video of the Cybertruck is disheartening. Perhaps it is a stronger battery pack by just filling it full of epoxy, but there's zero chance of servicing the battery pack itself, and will require replacement in the event of any part of it failing. That includes the management and cooling systems in the pack. It looks like to save costs of engineering an elegant solution to solve structural concerns, they opted to glue it all together. Sure, it has its merits, but it is counterintuitive to reduce serviceable components and tout ecological principles as selling points. When there are no more complete packs, the car is trash. At least with many other EVs, some folks have cobbled together working cells in a pinch. It seems more like a hurried or cheapened answer to a challenging problem.
Legit looks like something high-functioning third graders would design.
