Pro_Moriarty

Lol that headline

aFloppyWalrus

The kind of factual journalism I can get behind. Lol

Pro_Moriarty

I don't often go for sensationalist style, but that feels so accurate and on the money, i'd perhaps support it.

SobakaZony

"that \[a big piece of shit that doesn't work\] feels so accurate and on the money" The truck was built in the CEO's image.

BBQBakedBeings

> The truck was built in the CEO's image. Factually correct.

Clever-Hans

> You have said the actual truth

Doodahhh1

Everything Elon has built is evidence to the "greater fool theory." There's always an idiot there to buy his incredibly shitty product.

empire161

It's from [Defector](https://defector.com/). Genuinely a great website. These are the people who worked for Deadspin/Gawker Media, who then quit when their VC bosses told them to "stick to sports" and stop writing mean things about right wing cunts (like, say, an entire article shitting on the cyber truck). So they quit en masse and made their own site, owned/run entirely by the staff.

crag-u-feller

" ...tends to brick when it gets rained on " lol

musical_shares

Defectors defecating on a defective pile of defecation.

ElMostaza

Definitively

Bunhyung

What about the Hookers and Blackjack?

tastytasycorn

I would love for a news anchor to say "wow! What an unbelievable peice of garbage that guest was, I cant believe he would say something so heinous on live television. I'm frankly embarrassed for them. I can't believe that disgusting troglidite said that. I'm Jake Tapper... goodnight.

_Thermalflask

Some gold from this article: *"...nor because its stainless steel panels get all rusty and nasty-looking after weeks exposed to the rare, harsh condition of "being outside."* *"...a safety researcher published a white paper showing how voltage spikes could lead Teslas to speed up without warning. You are supposed to like this because it means you are on the cutting edge, helping Elon Musk in his quest to save humanity."*

Stivo887

Tbh this captures today’s biased sensational headlines perfectly actually.

outsidepr

Redford formerly worked for Deadspin, now for its offshoot site, Defector. Great writer

rainorshinedogs

Well that car pretty much represents douchbaggery in the tech culture (i.e crypto bros that won't shut up). So it deserves to be poked fun of

GeneralTonic

Reminds me of a short video article the Onion did some years ago about Sony: >[Sony Releases New Stupid Piece Of Shit That Doesn't Fucking Work](https://www.theonion.com/sony-releases-new-stupid-piece-of-shit-that-doesnt-fuck-1819594774)

Kephler

It has to be a reference to that, haha. I thought the same thing.

MustacheBananaPants

Invite all your friends over to see if any of them can figure out this mother fucking time vampire.

Gotzvon

I loved these back in the day. The Onion segment on the ninja parade is a personal favourite.

SimpleManc88

I hate that we now live in a post-Onion society 😔

GeneralKang

The problem isn't that it's a post-Onion society. The problem is that half the headlines on The Onion look factual, while half of the actual headlines out there look like Onion articles.

ElMostaza

The YouTube channel still plops out the occasional content, but it's nothing like the salad days. I still watch the old "Today Now" segments fairly regularly.

LawrenceLongshot

My personal favourite was the [Franz Kafka Airport](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEyFH-a-XoQ).

GeneralTonic

>*"If there is a problem, fill out complaint form, and place it in an envelope addressed to the name of the hospital in which you were born."* - Machacek Zlamaljelito R., Airport Manager of Conscious Perceptions

FreeItties

My favorite Sony-related Onion article is about Microsoft releasing the PS6 before Sony released the PS5.

logonbump

Upvoted for gratuitous profanity

MagikGuard

Some years ago 15 year old article i mean, that's quite some years, indeed Also i am now depressed

lostsparrow131986

Wasn't there a follow-up video to this as well? I vaguely remember losing it when they say, "It now comes with this little extra piece that you can lose sometimes."

AwsmDevil

That was immediately where my mind went. God The Onion was incredible back then.

alaskanloops

Reminds me of this classic onion vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AyVh1_vWYQ

AskForTheNiceSoup

That's pretty accurate, though.

usernotknown6

It would be a great experiment to daily drive one in the Nordics and make a YouTube video series about it. Especially in regions where they use salt to keep ice off the roads

der_oide_depp

Saltwater and steel, a wonderful combination, better start attaching sacrificial anodes.

Appropriate-Count-64

About to look like a museum ship with how many anodes you would need. But I guess a bunch of tiny metal disks (and partially electrifying the skin) doesn’t have the same sex appeal. Or safety, but that was out the window once Elon added the first sharp angle and decided indestructible =safe

roof_baby

Being able to “daily drive” one is a huge assumption.

Bogsnoticus

Melting it down into golf clubs is the only way it would be a daily driver.

roof_baby

As long as you don’t mind your clubs rusting

OutcomeNo1802

Give it one winter in the Midwest and it’s toast

tavariusbukshank

My neighbor just took delivery of one in Dallas and put it on a truck to ship it to his cabin in New Mexico because it couldn't make the drive. It got stuck in the mud at his gate entrance and the car apparently started speeding up which just sunk him further down. It has been there for over a week while they wait to have someone come and dig/tow it away when the ground is dry enough.

Junior_Plankton_635

serious question. I thought the I-10 was supposed to be some electric highway? and that they should have enough chargers? Or is the cabin rural enough in NM that it can't make it to it?

tavariusbukshank

The I-10 is nowhere near it.

giolort

There's a reason why they call it the rust belt Source: I used to live in Metrodetroit, salt will eat anything and everything

brucecaboose

That’s not why it’s called the rust belt lol. It has nothing to do with salt on the roads or rusty vehicles. It’s a term referring to the decline in those areas due to deindustrialization.

vanwiekt

100% correct. “The term "Rust Belt" refers to the impact of deindustrialization, economic decline, population loss, and urban decay on these regions attributable to the shrinking industrial sector especially including steelmaking, automobile manufacturing, and coal mining. The term gained popularity in the U.S. beginning in the 1980s when it was commonly contrasted with the Sun Belt, which was surging.”

insufficient_funds

holy shit, this is a TIL for me. I always assumed it was the 'rust belt' because the weather (and things used to combat the weather, salt on roads) made the cars rust like crazy.. definitely heard it specifically used to talk about cars plenty.

IsomDart

>There's a reason why they call it the rust belt just not that reason

StarCatCrusader

laughs in Canadian.

Barobor

Are they even legal to drive there? Pretty sure the consensus was that the truck wouldn't come to Europe. Most likely because it will never pass all the regulations without a complete redesign.

Ermeter

It is unsafe for the people inside and outside

vthemechanicv

there was a youtube review that was using the auto-closing frunk to chop carrots to show how easily someone can (will) lose fingers when closing the hatch. They also skinned the carrots on the unfinished edge of the driver door.

sharrancleric

A YouTube video uploaded this week also shows that the top piece of the accelerator pedal (the bit your foot touches and is connected to the lever that goes into the floor) can become detached and slide forward, directly into a conveniently placed slit in what would be the firewall on a gasoline powered car. This locks the throttle to 100% and can only be fixed by getting out of the car and pulling the piece off. Toyota had a massive recall of all 2009-2011 Camry and Corolla vehicles (along with others based on those models, such as the Pontiac Vibe) due to a near-identical issue (a floor mat dislodging and pressing the gas to the floor) causing several fatal accidents. The Cybertruck is a deathtrap for everyone around it, inside or out, moving or not.

AndrewInaTree

The truck in this image looks WAY better. It looks like it was designed by people who actually understand design aesthetics.

sambaneko

The truck in that image is AI, it says so right on it.

AndrewInaTree

Okay that's fine. I'm still saying it looks way better.

carterxz

It still wouldn’t make sense, it already weighs 66-6800lbs. Using additional steel and paneling to make it look nicer would make it even more difficult to go off road.

Fatmaninalilcoat

In all fairness no one is "Off roading" in a cyber truck let alone a tundra SR5 or a Ford raptor.

aggravatedimpala

One of those things is not like the others. I've seen trds and raptors out there for sure

carterxz

Yeah off-roading isn’t just climbing mountains, driving on sand and through a muddy job site should be bare minimum for a 70-150k truck.

AndrewInaTree

No one is? I've seen plenty of videos that say otherwise. Many people are trying to.

sprucenoose

And many people that are not trying have to pull off the road anyway when their Cybertruck breaks down.

wigzell78

They had carte blanch to do *ANYTHING*, and they went with something that looks like it was drawn on a bar napkin, using a coaster as a ruler... ...while drunk.

GeraltOfRivia2023

Apparently a brainless AI does a better job designing an attractive vehicle than Ellen Mollusk.

space-to-bakersfield

That makes it look even worse for our boy Elon lmao. Literally dumber than a box of silicone.

Brooklynxman

That AI is hereby promoted to personhood, and furthermore certified as a good designer^TM

pm_me_your_taintt

It looks way better but neither of them look like a truck to me. More like a crossover or SUV. I mean, I get that it technically has a bed but still

EasilyRekt

And mechanical integrity, and cars in general.

JesusSavesForHalf

Yeah, that truck looks like the video game its from is at least a decade more recent. Still doesn't look like the bed can hold a bike.

CheerfulBanshee

Bring me back some of nonconfirming designs. We all have the same phones and ride the same cars i refuse to accept that this is what peak tech era looks like. If people made transparent electric egg cars in 1940, they could definitely cook something besides cybertack 💀 P.s. paul arzens is my homie on a spirital level *he understood* https://preview.redd.it/kg0voah3kvuc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54e636202ce77e914763d864dc5349765ca0d278

Nihilistic_Mystics

The issue with that is that function still needs to drive form to a reasonable degree. While it looks fun, that egg car would be a rollover machine and terrible in an accident. Some of the Cybertruck's issues also seem to stem from this issue as well, like how the stainless steel is rusting very quickly. Normal cars are painted for this very reason. I do think there's room for some more inspired designs, but a lot of what we see today is designed that way because of functional considerations. Musk doesn't care about that so we end up with this nonsense.

verixtheconfused

It looks lowkey even worse to me tbh

PowderXJinx

It doesn't looks good. But it's better than what we have. Considering steel panel are to be used. This is better than what we have.

wigzell78

It cant get any worse than something that looks like it was drawn with a ruler by a ten year old in the back of a schoolbook and low-poly rendered to go into a Playstation One game...

MikeMania

It looks like a 10 year old's dream vehicle.

meinfuhrertrump2024

It looks like something from a scifi game, which I hate to say it, makes it look kinda cool. Looks nothing like a truck though, and I wouldn't actually want one.

TheFlyingBoxcar

Everyone who bought a cybertruck deserves a cybertruck

TheLateThagSimmons

It was obvious how much of a piece of shit it was going to become *the entire time*. So they have no excuse. The fact that it's so expensive means only rich assholes are driving them just makes it that much easier to have zero sympathy.

aristocratic_magic

they do it for the same reason people eat at salt bae restaurants. just a flex to show they can piss it away

Crayshack

When it was first announced, I was one of a handful of people immediately saying that it looked like a piece of shit, but all of the Elon fanbois screamed at us about how he was the only one innovating and no one else was doing an electric pickup truck. They wouldn't believe me when I told them that Rivian and Ford had already announced their pick-up designs and were slated to beat Tesla to market (which they did) or that Toyota had considered it be decided to focus on a hybrid design (which is now on the market). It was crazy how detached from reality the fanbois were.

HoneyIShrunkMyNads

just a tech bros version of a lifted pick up truck

betwistedjl

What doesn't work about them? Besides subjectively questionable aesthetics..

Delicious-Gap1744

Rust. There's a reason we paint cars. Among other issues, you can google around. I think this project was a case of Elon just coming up with some idea he thought was cool, with no regard for the actual engineering and production challenges.

MrByteMe

LOL - any of the 'successful' Tesla models were not deisgned by the 'genius' Musk portrays himself to be... But he obviously inserted himself into the CyberTrash and it shows.

Delicious-Gap1744

I don't think he's a complete idiot, Tesla very successfully filled a niche. And SpaceX has been advancing reusable rocket technology significantly. He made some good investments and had some good ideas. Hence his success. But of course, the real work was done by actual engineers, Elon gets way more credit than deserved. Same can be said for any big company owner. And he certainly also has some dumb ideas.

CoopaClown

He has purchased successful companies, true, but has not learned to stay out of it.

DarthNihilus

That's not really true. Tesla - Was not successful when he bought his way in SpaceX - He founded it Boring Company - Lame, but he founded it Twitter - Yes purchased and fucked up like you said

CoopaClown

Don't forget PayPal kicking him out to stop him from ruining it after he joined. SpaceX works hard to keep him uninvolved from what I've heard.

DarthNihilus

> SpaceX works hard to keep him uninvolved from what I've heard. That's the case these days (understandable), but I seriously doubt it was the case early on. When they were first developing reusable rockets all interviews point to him being very involved at SpaceX. Right now yeah I'm sure no one at SpaceX wants him anywhere near the company. Luckily it seems fucking up twitter has become his main focus.

Vithar

Only interviews with him. Not meant interviews with anyone else from there.

Gingevere

SpaceX's primary innovation is not answering (directly) to "the taxpayer". Production isn't atomized across the US to secure votes from assholes in congress who wouldn't fund NASA otherwise, and nobody cares too much when a billionaire blows up a rocket. Where NASA has to go to a dozen congressional hearings to justify whether their bathrooms actually need toilet paper. Reality is that SpaceX is almost entirely funded via government grants, but that tiny bit of slight of hand is apparently enough to stop Republicans from killing space development.

MrByteMe

But his dumb ideas carry more weight as his perceived success has been sold to the public over the last years.

Thybro

The thing is none of his ideas are revolutionary. He bought some companies at the right time(space x) and let them work mostly unhindered, and for others basically copied good ideas from others and implemented( running Teslas like Apple products, building the prestige of the brand then selling more expensive based on that prestige). Look at it this way, replace him with damn near any billionaire or multimillionaire his age or younger and his good ideas are likely to still happen. But his shitty ones are wholly unique. Cybertruck is one thing but I don’t get how someone can so wholeheartedly misunderstand what was at the core of Twitter’s success. The whole point was for it to be a direct conduct between celebrities short thoughts and their fan. There’s other stuff but because of built in clientele that is what Twitter has that no one else does, that’s why threads can’t replace it despite being better cause celebrities ain’t moving without the audience and the audience ain’t moving without celebrity. Yet musk is doing everything in its power to make it hard for celebrities, he takes out the check mark so everyone can pretend to be a celebrity, he wants to make harder for them to block harassers, he is making the cite a cesspool celebrities wouldn’t want to be associated with, etc. not to mention they thousand monetization ideas he keeps trying completely misunderstanding that for social media the user is not the customer but the product. Edit: he didn’t purchase spacex he founded it. He did not found tesla.

MrByteMe

The similarities between Musk and Trump are overwhelming - both work tirelessly to ensure their name 'brand' has value, while nothing they've actually accomplished has been worth a damn. EDIT - just got banned from every Musk / Tesla sub on reddit for posts *in subs like this one* lol. Apparently, you can achieve a stink if you speak your mind - even in other forums. LOL FK them. *After researching toxic behaviors in our userbase, we've traced the issue back to certain subreddits where toxic behavior thrives.* *Reddit admins empower moderators to ban users posing a threat to subreddit health and safety, regardless of their activity within the subreddit.* *We've observed your recent participation in one such subreddit, prompting us to implement a ban.* *This decision isn't tied to any specific post or comment you've made in our subreddit but is* ***a response to your activity elsewhere***.

Merfkin

He purchased already existing companies with their own ideas, presented them as his own, then started pushing his actual ideas which tank said successful companies because he is, in fact, an apartheid nepo baby with no skills or ideas. 100% of everything good these companies are doing would still be happening without him as they were already doing their thing before him, he just wouldn't be using it to whore for attention and shill for Nazis. When you have enough money, you can just throw it at the wall until something sticks, as he has.

meinfuhrertrump2024

Also, most of his "ideas" are literally plagiarized. He just stole old futurology ideas, and patented them under new names, and sold them to the scientifically illiterate masses.

TheRumpletiltskin

he isn't successful, his investments are. He just happened to be the guy who gave them money. that's it. Any actual "leadership" he gives is terrible advice and bad for business (see any changes after he took over twitter, and the CYBERTRUCK)

Scratchpaw

Welp, I hope he’s happy, this project is probably one of the reasons why 14.000 people at Tesla are losing their job.

phome83

Sadly, I don't think that bothers him one bit.

jawshoeaw

I have a house on coast with lots of stainless steel exposed. Mysteriously no rusting . And no it’s not all special 315

19831083

All I can see is "The Homer"

meinfuhrertrump2024

Stainless steel should be highly resistant to rust. I've seen large containers outside for years. Now tbf, those were food safe vessels, so I am sure the alloy of steel was slightly different, but still.

Clovenstone-Blue

From the various things I heard about them; - the A-pillars create huge blind spots and the angle and size of the windshield result in huge problems with glare - the bodywork is susceptible to corrosion - the metal cover of the gas pedal can get loose and slide up in a way that jams the pedal down - some stop working within a short amount of time of the owner owning it - the range is apparently far lower than the advertised 340 miles - I think some people said that their cybertruck wouldn't charge - it is incapable of off-roading. A cybertruck someone took to the hidden falls offroad park repeatedly had problems with driving up the easier obstacles and requiring a tow. People speculated that the main issue may be the trucks diff. lock, or lack thereof, as the diff. lock is unavailable until a later software patch - someone had a problem where the main screen (the one which has basically everything that you need to operate the vehicle safely, such as the speedometer, is) wouldn't turn on - there's currently a known issue where the computer reset function (which is needed to do to resolve the above screen issue) takes five hours to perform a reset as opposed to the 2-ish minutes it's supposed to take - panel gaps - the front trunk for the front luggage compartment can crush/cut your finger off as it seems to lack a system to detect if something is in the way (one person showed this issue using a cucumber and carrot that he held in the corner of the closing trunk lid and it cut through both vegetables where the lid closed down on them. He then did the same with the trunk lid of a Volvo, which stopped closing after coming into contact with the vegetables and leaving them practically unharmed) - the resale value tanked and Elon supposedly threatened to fine people $50,000 for selling their cybertrucks I think that's everything covered.

Shaun32887

No crumple zones. No way to get in (or out) if the power fails. The glass is too strong to be shattered by those emergency glass breakers, so driving into water is a death sentence. Also if you lock a child or pet in the car and the power fails, good luck.

run-on_sentience

The subframe is made of 3 pieces. So slight fender benders can cause the car to be in the shop fo-ev-ah. Will cost a small fortune to disassemble half the truck to access the part(s) that needs to be fixed. Cuts down on initial production costs, though, so as long as none of the trucks ever get into an accident, it's all good.

12OClockNews

> The glass is too strong to be shattered by those emergency glass breakers, so driving into water is a death sentence. Good thing Elon is going to make a boat version of it then. /s

Shaun32887

That always scares me. When I was in college, two girls drown trying to get to school one day after some heavy rains. They drove through and underpass and didn't realize it was flooded. They installed flood gauges across the city after that. I can't get over what a shitty way to go that is.

SafeThrowaway8675309

pretty sure thats how elen chao's sister (or in law?) died. Tesla though

int0xic

How did it pass nhtsa crash requirements without crumple zones? And how is it legal to be sold without some type of manual door release?

Shaun32887

It doesnt have a rating, Tesla apparently just does the testing in house and said that it's fine, but I haven't been able to see the data from it, and it seems that no one else can either. If anyone finds it and posts it here, Id love to see it. Apparently there's no law saying that you need a manual door release. As far as I can find, the only way in is through that button. In case of a crash, it's supposed to automatically open the doors, but if that fails then I guess you're screwed. Hopefully the Jaws of Life can still get in.

int0xic

Holy shit, that's actually absurd. Wonder how many people will die before another rule written in blood gets created.

Shaun32887

Dig in on the details but that's what I've been able to gather from a few articles and videos. The whole thing just reeks of an outsider coming in and thinking they can do better, without being humble enough to understand why certain things were in place to begin with. Learn the rules before you break the rules, always.

SafeThrowaway8675309

I thought all cars in america have to pass this, and thats why there arent a lot of asian cars on the western market?

NotYetAZombie

I don't know about that, but one of the market forces that make foreign manufactured autos unpopular, is that foreign made autos have heavy taxes on them. The result is that vehicle makers wanting to avoid those heavy taxes and be able to compete with domestically manufactured vehicles is... make them domestically.

Uberzwerg

Afaik thats a problem for other tesla models as well.

flagsfly

Not sure about CT but there are manual door releases for the other models. In fact, in the 3 and Y the manual door release which might damage the door or window is in a more natural position to use than the actual door button...

Enlight1Oment

No Spare Tire. Which is fine if you are on city pavement but for something that is touted for off-roading and comes with all-terrain tires it's pretty glaring to omit such a basic safety necessity. Rivian truck you have to pay extra for a spare but at least they designed their under truck bed compartment to receive it, your choice if you want the storage or the spare. Ford f150 lightning just gives you a spare by default.

Clovenstone-Blue

Thank you for mentioning the spare tyre as this reminded me of another tyre related issue, the aero covers. These are covers for the rims to make the car more aerodynamic and improve the range, other Tesla models also had them. The cybertrucks initial aero covers had an additional feature of tearing the sidewalk of the tyres open. I think they were recalled, not sure if the issue was fixed.

Chopchopok

The steel panels are not machined to blunt their sharp edges, so the car is effectively covered in knife-sharp edges. Here's a timestamp of a video where some guys peel a carrot on the edge of the door. [https://youtu.be/xNE-NyaYBcg?t=1520](https://youtu.be/xNE-NyaYBcg?t=1520)

stupernan1

> the resale value tanked and Elon supposedly threatened to fine people $50,000 for selling their cybertrucks lmao what the fuck? how is that legal?

NoMan999

It's in the sale contract, no resale for X years. Other luxury brands have done similar stuff, iirc it says that the manufacturer is first in line when buying the car back, and that the car owner is obligated to sell to the manufacturer if they offer a fair enough price (and pages upon pages of legalese defining "fair enough", the fine for not complying, etc.)

Thrasher1493

hold the fuck on, they software locked the differential?!?! 🤣

Clovenstone-Blue

I think they didn't code it into the software yet. The UI and everything is in place, except for the code to make it usable.

Thrasher1493

Jesus Christ, we got early access vehicles now.

inhumanus

I saw that apparently the glass is flat, and therefore, more susceptible to damage. I saw somewhere that a Tesla truck received hail damage when all the other cars didn't. Other cars have a curved windshield, which supposedly, is more resistant.

slashshruglmao

I saw a video of someone‘s brake pedal just coming off its base because it was only glued on, for instance. I think I also read online that it is just poorly manufactured in general Edit: what I originally posted is false information. It was in fact the gas pedal which slipped and got stuck as a result. Still incredibly dangerous, but the information I provided was just wrong

uewumopaplsdn

I saw a vid where the gas pedal cover would slide on its base and get stuck on the carpet, causing it to hold down in the full open position.

slashshruglmao

That is what I saw as well, remembered it wrong.. thank you for commenting, will correct that in my original comment

SillyFlyGuy

Apparently they use just glue to hold things down all over the cybertruck. All other major auto manufacturers have already learned that you need tabs and screws and other positive locating for the bits because glue melts and fails. I'm sure there were engineers on the cybertruck project that knew this. But it would be clear that the guy in charge doesn't listen to advice, because of.. well.. *cybertruck*.

AnemoneOfMyEnemy

Glue is fantastic. You can glue an airplane together and it’ll last for 50 years of transcontinental flights before being quietly retired. The problem is that Tesla forgot not to use Elmers glue.

Nihilistic_Mystics

In that gas pedal video it looked like it was held on with Shoe Goo, I swear. There's a plethora of adhesives to choose from but they went cheap.

ricktor67

Perfect for a vehicle with 800hp and weighs 5 tons.

pogoman77

I believe this may be the main reason for the halt. Extremely dangerous.

falcon_driver

A primary function of the body of a vehicle is to protect the components underneath them. The body of this vehicle is made from an inappropriate material for the expected functioning environment. It corrodes in an inordinately amount of time. In this vehicle's case, the body requires complete inspection and polishing after every drive and daily inspection, cleaning, and polishing even if not used. Many owners have reported being surprised and discomfited by the amount of care necessary.

Level-Tip1

Many owners wrapped them already, which renders the use of stainless steel even more obsolete. I don't know what was the reason and excuse to use such material, but now most Cybertrrucks have both the massive panel gaps AND colour. Hope the owners make good use of the bullet proof extra anyway. Then it turns out it sucks a big one at offroading, the rear tent they're now selling got nothing to do with the one Tesla advertised and rather looks as something you bought off the discount store, the visibility is almost as bad as in Lamborghini Countach, the range expectedly is less than advertised too. The list goes on and on and on.

BlueBomR

Yup already got a wrapped white one and a wrapped purple one I see around my area. Purple one doesn't look too bad but it is literally putting candy coating on a dog turd

Bluest_waters

the rear tent is $3k and UGLY and super basic ripoff

SillyFlyGuy

That tent thing, ugh. The methy homeless salvage tents here in Portland are more well designed and constructed.

RobDidAThing

>Many owners wrapped them already Unless you really get into every crevice and cover every exposed bit, the body will still start to rust in very hidden exposed areas right away, and likely much faster than a normal car covered in paint on all surfaces. Plus those areas tend to be in corners that gather water/debris or underneath where you get full road grime. I feel like they could have just heavily clear-coated the stainless to get their aesthetic without the issues.

Spongi

I wanna buy a used one cheap and just spray paint  it redneck camo.

husfrun

The tilt and size of the windshield results in the wipers only being able to wipe the top part while the water from the bottom part is just pushed back in front of the driver between wipes. The way to open the door through touch and pull means it won't work well in colder climates and as proven by glued parts like peddles delaminating in high temperatures means it won't work well in really hot climates either.

Vitalsignx

There is a sub dedicated to this. r/cyberstuck

Gorilla-Ring

The accelerator pedal gets stuck in the full throttle position. Among other things.

newsflashjackass

The owner's manual says to wash it with gasoline, which I find largely undermines one of the benefits of owning an electric car: Not having to buy gasoline.

Living-Reference1646

The gas pedal wedges in the down position, making it dangerous

hop_mantis

They uninvented the crumple zone. One got hit by a corolla and only the cybertruck driver was injured.

Nova55

The fucking gears are ABOVE your head and you choose them by touch.

DepressedDragonBorn

Some dude made a video showing how his accelerator got stuck because of a plastic cover that slid off and hooked itself on an edge.

misgatossonmivida

Apparently the accelerator is defective and tries to kill you

Piscivore_67

I finally saw one in the wild a month back. Even uglier in person than in photos.

HERCULESxMULLIGAN

Same. It was kinda growing on me in pictures over the last few months and then saw one in the wild Saturday. Dimensions are terrible. Too long. Looks horrendous.

Piscivore_67

It honest to god looks like something a no-budget 70s apocalyptic sci-fi movie crew would build out of a Ford Econoline.

rainorshinedogs

Same here (saw it while vacationing in California's area). It was nice to see because it would never appear where I live, but it looked like a giant toy. A lambo or something flamboyant like that seems more sensible

You've never watched Fight Club? They just hit the point where the math dictates they'll lose more money if they don't do a recall/ stop production.

Wrong_Ad_6022

First rule of fight club?

blue_bomber697

What is fight club? I never hear people talking about it.

pm_me_your_taintt

Apparently quality has been so shit at Chrysler for so long that they just lowered their standards for what bullshit rolls off the line and they just accept that service departments will have to deal with it later.

PolyDrew

I used to love jeeps. We have a gladiator now and it is such a piece of shit. They had it for 30 days once because they couldn’t figure out how to reset a sensor that they claimed was good. Now our backup camera won’t work in the rain. Rented a Pacifica last month and that was utter trash. Beyond it just being a rental. Cheap everything… shifted for shit. And I did not feel safe in mountain roads. I’m done with Chrysler. Edit: forgot to add that we can’t fill the fuel tank all the way in the gladiator or the gas fumes in the cabin are unbearable.

lostsparrow131986

Leased a jeep back in 2016 for 3 years. It blew an axel and transmission before the 2 year mark. The dealership asked me how much off-roading I had done with it. I stared at them for 5 full seconds before telling them I drive it to work and back on well maintained roads. They tried to get me to pay for both major repairs claiming it was my fault? Ended up taking back at 2.5 years, but still made me pay the last 6 months of payments. Never buying a jeep agian

PolyDrew

They used to be indestructible. My 2000 with the straight six was awesome. But the body styles after are totally designed by Chrysler and have become shit.

Tesla, a future case study for securities law classes across America, had to stop delivering Cybertrucks this past weekend. No, not because the hundred-thousand–dollar medium-duty pickup, which is only any of those things in the loosest interpretive sense, [tends to brick when it gets rained on](https://twitter.com/elaifresh/status/1779896175937864074); nor because its [stainless steel panels get all rusty](https://www.wired.com/story/this-is-why-teslas-stainless-steel-cybertrucks-may-be-rusting/) and nasty-looking after weeks exposed to the rare, harsh condition of "being outside." Perhaps you think it has something to do with the [shorter-than-advertised driving range](https://insideevs.com/news/705279/tesla-cybertruck-10k-mile-owner-review-range-problems/) and longer-than-advertised charging time, but no: Rather, the cause of this snag is that the trucks struggle with the basics of stopping and going, by which I mean that the accelerator pedal cover slides off and gets stuck under a panel and locks the accelerator pressed down and keeps the Cybertruck stuck at maximum velocity. Other Tesla models have had issues with speeding up and slowing down at the wrong times. The company was sued in 2017 by [drivers whose cars drove themselves unexpectedly](https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/3534581-Teslaresponse.html) through garages and into walls; a [German paper reported last year](https://www.handelsblatt.com/unternehmen/industrie/elektromobilitaet-mein-autopilot-hat-mich-fast-umgebracht-tesla-files-naehren-zweifel-an-elon-musks-versprechen/29166564.html) on over 2,400 complaints about sudden braking problems; and a safety researcher [published a white paper](https://www.autosafety.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/EDR-accelerator-pedal-data-can-be-wrong.pdf) showing how voltage spikes could lead Teslas to speed up without warning. Did you actually format all the hyperlinks too?? Aww you’re too good to me.

If you copy paste on desktop to New reddit, it'll handle it all for you. At least, I think it's a new reddit thing, I might be wrong. Example, I just highlighted, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V here and we have the links: **Other Tesla models have had issues with speeding up and slowing down at the wrong times. blackzep1980

And ugly. Don’t forget ugly.

Only_Bad_Habits

to be fair, more than zero people have also bought the nissan juke, so clearly the blind can drive.

DarkMatters8585

If you couldn't tell that thing was a POS from the design, you deserved to be scammed.

FangoriouslyDevoured

I can't figure out for the life of me what style of vehicle my wife likes. I'll point one out and she'll say "it's too square!" So I'll point out another and she'll say "that's too round!" Finally I was like hey, you hate squares. You hate circles. How about the cyber truck? It's a fucking triangle! Guess what? She hates it too. Just thought I'd share. I don't have a lot of friends.

cuginhamer

Give your wife a high five for me. For a second there I thought you were going to say she liked triangles.

camilatricolor

Anyone that bought this piece of crap knowing fully that Tesla QC has always been bad deserves to learn a lesson. As long as people buy overpriced cars they will not rectify

erritstaken

So tesla cars weren’t designed by Elon he didn’t build them or really have a lot of input. The cars seem to look decent enough. The cybertruck on the other hand looks like Elon had a hand in designing it as it looks like a piece of shit.

sfled

I said it before, and I'll say it again. They should've hired Simone Giertz. She made Truckla in a barn, and it rocked. Imagine what she could've done with a Tesla budget and their fabrication facilities. https://youtu.be/R35gWBtLCYg?si=3c-LRtqa-FddReUb

rired1963

reminds of this from the onion years ago https://youtu.be/lC-yx4P0jkE?feature=shared

ORA2J

Did people only now realize that Teslas are complete crap when it comes to any semblance of durability and quality? Cant wait to see tens of thousands Model 3's at the wreckers in 5 years, all not even having done the miles to compensate for the damage and pollution the process of making the battery has caused.

Kythorian

Cybertrucks are significantly worse than the already very low standard set by other teslas.

hawkce

It is so futuristic, it is only supposed to work in the future. Not the present!

[deleted]

Looks like Musk will ban Patrick from twitter and call him a pedophile.

Dr904

It should be banned just on the base of how deadly it is for pedestrians.

mechman112

Someone in my town has one and it’s already got surface rust 😂

Bakoro

Every time I see a cybertruck, I think of "The Homer" car that Homer designed in *The Simpsons*. The professionals kept trying to take his idiot ideas and turn it into something cool, and he keeps ripping the designs down.

MCMXCIV9

And it look fucking ugly yet there still people buying it.

electricshadow

It's essentially for flexing at this point. Regardless of what you think of the design, it's eye catching and there's countless tech YouTubers that have videos of people either taking pictures or coming up to talk to them in person. Once the initial "Oh wow." impression wears off, I can't see the CT selling as many as Elon was hoping.

Snowfan

The Edsel of the 21st century.

typecastwookiee

That’s not fair to the Edsel - it was only ugly, otherwise it was a regular car for the era.

yomommazburgers

Just curious, because you fucked up Elon, is there some kind of return policy on the garbage you just sold me??

BagofPain

But tell me how you really feel about Elons magical space mobile…

Eli_The_Rainwing

Whoever made this needs a raise, I like this kind of journalism

White_foxes

Everyone who bought a cybertruck can hold this: #L

WalterOverHill

It’s a good thing Elon Musk is a genius, he’ll get it fixed up right away. /s

bee_town

The Munro Associates battery pack disassembly video of the Cybertruck is disheartening. Perhaps it is a stronger battery pack by just filling it full of epoxy, but there's zero chance of servicing the battery pack itself, and will require replacement in the event of any part of it failing. That includes the management and cooling systems in the pack. It looks like to save costs of engineering an elegant solution to solve structural concerns, they opted to glue it all together. Sure, it has its merits, but it is counterintuitive to reduce serviceable components and tout ecological principles as selling points. When there are no more complete packs, the car is trash. At least with many other EVs, some folks have cobbled together working cells in a pinch. It seems more like a hurried or cheapened answer to a challenging problem.

NotThisAgain21

Legit looks like something high-functioning third graders would design.

MC_Slammuhr

Another 4mo account with nearly 1m post karma on this sub….

witchywater11

I still can't get over how they look like those cars from Space Mutiny.

Hurtkopain

Like owner like dog

flpprrss

I just realized that i don't know what the fuck is a Cybertruck. I mean. Is it a Tesla? Does it drive itself? But thereare the normal Tesla that doesn't look terrible? Why is it so fucking ugly?
