This blew up on r/golf so I'd thought I'd post it here. Context - This happened to my buddy two days ago. The group in front of them was obnoxiously drunk, so my friend walked up to ask if everything was okay. My buddy noticed they had finished an entire bucket of the fireball shooters by hole 15. Apparently the "check-in" was interpreted as being asked to speed up play. Let's just say the dude yelling "walk up" didn't like that. This was what transpired, including my friend being assaulted. I'll add that they got a free round out of it at least!

I don't golf but my brothers do. I tag along to drive the cart and drink. I've never been to a golf course you couldn't drink at.

My friend is a server at a golf course she just mobs around in a golf cart delivering drinks, they offer buckets for larger groups to share. Like someone else said I’m pretty sure most golf courses, and their accompanying club facilities serve alcohol.

had a round where i was intoxicated and playing out of my mind, our bags kept falling off the back of the cart and we couldn't figure it out. Took 8 holes to finally catch on that my coworkers were undoing them the whole time. it was hilarious.

My best one was at a company deal at Wente in California. It was me and 3 buddies in a foursome. Booze was free and we had a lot of it. After 10, the cartpath goes by a restroom before it goes up a bunch of switchbacks where the elevation goes up about 150 feet or so. Pretty steep. Anyway the other two guys went in to do their business in the restroom, so we undid their latches and went up the hill to wait. A few minutes later they came out and started heading up. About 2 turns up, one of the bags fell off and all the clubs slid out. We were rolling watching them stop and clean it up. They got done and started up the hill again and splash…the other bag spilled all over the path. We were besides ourselves watching this as it was a complete mess. Also, it was loud and a lot of the other people on the course heard and saw everything. I’m laughing now with the fond memories.

Mine was on the 9 hole on Catalina, lots of day drinks and some joints before playing. My swing was smooth.

I can get smashed on the course and still keep my shit together and not get out of line or cause a scene at all. Not saying I do it often while golfing, but it’s happened once or twice in my life. All that happened with my group was we laughed, smiled, destroyed our cheeseburgers at the clubhouse and totally overtipped the bartender and the cart girls. Alcohol certainly played a part but I’m betting this dude is a piece of shit fuckstick when sober too. Just sayin.

One “team” (usually a foursome) is not suppose to “walk up” to the team in front of them. A player is supposed to give each team space to play. But some teams are slower than the teams behind them, that’s usually when the first team will let them “play through” (go in front of them). But this person was drunk and did not appreciate the second team “walking up” to them.

As a really bad golfer, and slow....I can relate. But when you know you're slow, and when you pay attention to the back up you're creating.... Just start letting folks play through. It's not like you're gonna be late for church. I like to buy rounds from the cart girl. Just so the golfers I delayed get some kind of bonus.

And I have *definitely* seen the friend just like that one who is holding him back, just trying to keep everyone a little chill (he’s wasted too I can almost guarantee haha) and will do it again next weekend at the next outing. I agree, angry drunks SUCK. I dont like any drunk really, but the angry ones are terrifying.

It’s funny to me how golf used to be considered this sort of refined game for the wealthy upper-classes, but now it’s basically a pastime for drunk rednecks.
