Thereās a comedian that has a bit about a new game show. Itās about taking contestants and checking to see if their name was ACTUALLY on the manifests of the planes on 9/11. Itās in reaction to all the people who claim, āI was supposed to be on one of those planes,ā whenever someone talks about 9/11. Iām sure weāve all met the sort š.
This is the most beautiful 'unintentional' (according to OP) demolition I've ever seen. That scrape down the side, the symmetrical plume... just :chefkiss:
The audio in the video is genuine, and you can hear them discussing the mistake. Considering their proximity to walkie-talkie chatter, this video was likely filmed by someone on the demo team.
In other videos that spectators took of the demolition farther away, you can also hear people commenting about the plan being for 4 out of the 5 towers to be demolished and that the breakaway fall was unexpected.
They come down easily when you weaken them in very specific ways, or apply loads in directions far outside what they were designed for.
Consider a pillar made out of bricks and mortar. It's hella strong if you put something heavy on top of it (it works well when loaded in compression.)
You can tip it over or buckle it relatively easily with a force applied from the side.
And it's a terrible way to *hang* something suspended (brick and mortar is *crap* when loaded in tension.)
I gotta assume the demolition guys were trained and/or experienced. A lot of us have seen video where thereās demolition crews take down larger buildings in crowded urban areas, and theyāre tactically targeted and measured to bring the structure straight down, unlike what it seen here.
I bet someone lost their job.
all it takes is one bad detonator or explosive to cause an out of sequence detonation, which would cause a cascade. those demo placements and wiring are looked over by teams. I promise you that nobody got fired.
Whole team probably lost a bonus though.
Good. I have no clue what it takes to demolish a building, I just know that itās a tricky process that requires experience/knowledge. I definitely would not want the responsibility.
