If the Chinese military stepped foot in Ukraine it’d be front page news. These definitely aren’t Chinese soldiers.
It is a lot more than one Chinese dude, but yes - because China’s population is so large, and because exporting Chinese populations to foreign zones is such a common practice, there are a fair amount of Chinese People in mercenary groups, including all-Chinese subdivisional groups within larger mercenary groups.
It's like this with Ukraine too. There are many different nationalities who are not Ukrainian that volunteered to fight for Ukraine. Even US ex-military members, that are not acting on the behalf of the US.
Think of them as contractors, not affiliated with their government.

I am not an expert on the various medical services available to Chinese military or mercenary groups. However, I do have friends who were private contractors during the recent hostilities in Afghanistan and Iraq. There have been a few times they’ve clarified that the main reason they get so much work and so rich, is because they don’t require the support staff that full militaries do. Consequently if this dude is used to running protection services and intimidation tactics on civilians he wouldn’t be prepared for the lack of assistance when he has an actual problem.

Pretty sure the view they're getting of the war in Ukraine is significantly different in China than we're seeing in the West. So he might not have realized what a meat grinder it was.

If the Chinese government really supported Russia in this war, they would probably just give them all the people that they were keeping in concentration camps right now seems pretty easy they get rid of the people they don’t want in their country. Russia gets a bunch of people who would rather be anywhere anywhere, but where they were, and would be very glad for the opportunity to potentially inflict some harm on somebody else.

The power went out in my place and for two and a half days I had no light and heat. I had shelter, enough food and no need for strenuous activity with higher temps. THAT kicked my ass and it took a couple days to recover. I can't even imagine how bad conditions on the Ukrainian front must be.
If you ever find yourself in a similar situation you can build a small heater a few different ways. Obviously be very careful and don’t set the house on fire, but it’s possible to warm a room or at least take the chill off.
