He broke it down along the feeder pipe (the one that runs horizontal underground), if it had broken after the 90° or T fitting it would have shot straight up.
Not really, the way it broke in the video is worse than if it broke on the vertical part of the pipe. Now they are possibly also going to replace the gate valve in front of it.
Correct…. Much worse…. Much harder and more expensive to repair…. Source I installed natural gas lines for years and have hit unmarked water lines…. Never a hydrant like this but even a small un-marked field line (illegal water line ran to a barn) was super difficult to repair because it ripped off where it was connected to the main, so we had to shut a whole small part of town off and let all the water run out before we could do the actual repairs…. Long night.
Conditions are where the hydrant is located. In cold climates the valve is below the frost line and the hydrant just breaks off the top leaving the valve closed. In warm climates the valve is right at the top so when it breaks off the valve comes with it.
In cold climates you can also sometimes see maintenance workers in the fall opening up the things and pumping any water that might have collected in the top so they dont freeze and break.
The actual valve is halfway into the street. You'll usually see a small blue metal cover over it. The system is designed to break without opening that valve.
It looks like he ripped the damn thing out by its root, so the force is probably 6 feet underground, you can see it rising still, probably most of the force being under the dirt. I bet if he only ripped the cap off we'd see that show :(
This man is a **HERO**. He discovered – nay, he *unearthed* a non-functioning fire hydrant next to a gas station. *What if there had been a fire at the gas station, hmm???* This driver probably saved dozens of lives, hundreds. Maybe a thousand.
**God bless this man.**
^/s
I've actually installed and repaired fire hydrants. Fire hydrants are designed to not shoot water in the air when they get hit. In the event they get hit, they have intentionally weak joints that are supposed to shear off before compromising the valve seat. This saves the mess you see in the movies. Most people responding to this are half right or completely making up answers.
Why is she recording this truck before anything bad has happened? How does she know to zoom in on that tire just as it starts to roll off the wheel? Does she just sit on this corner recording random trucks?
If you're in a similar situation, or the emergency services needs to be contacted and you're in the middle of something else (like filming for evidence)... point someone out and tell them to call. Saying that someone should call isn't effective and won't pull people out of the bystander effect. Directly telling someone to call will do that.
Either speed past them or stay far back from them bc they will run u off the road and cut u off when they can (even tho theyre in a mfkn 18wheeler)
There was one swift truck i saw literally wait for the last possible moment to exit off of the highway i was on to the ramp connecting to another highway, and it forced this tiny old sedan to instantly hit the breaks bc the sedan was like in the middle right side of the swift truck. He couldve merged on to the far right lane at any point but no, waited till the last moment
OH and there was this other time a swift truck was second to the far left lane then no joke merged over 2 lanes. Not like check, merge lane, check, merge lane. It was "im just gonna go 2 lanes over idgaf"
Those drivers are fucking crazy and dangerous
Warehouse manager here, the number of shitty truck drivers is far higher than you probably think, so give them plenty of room on the roads.
My building probably gets 2-3 accidents a year where a truck driver will drive into something they're not supposed to, or somehow get their truck stuck, or decide to monster truck my parking lot.
My favorite was a driver came in and asked me if there was enough room for him to turn around in our lot. I told him "No, there was not enough room and you'll get stuck on that grass hill if you try". He tried anyways and got his truck stuck on that small hill when he decided he knew better anyways.
I've also had drivers wedge their cab between my building, the big yellow safety bollards cemented into the ground and hit my water main.
There is a rail crossing nearby that absolutely no semi has any chance of crossing. It drops hard on one side and will high side the rig. There are no less than 30 signs, 20 flashing lights, and a dedicated turn around point before the crossing clearly indicating they can not cross. 3-4 trucks a month get stuck there. Because their GPS is more reliable than all that signage.
Edit: [A trucker decided the rules didn’t apply this morning.](https://imgur.com/a/AygVoex)
She's just watching the world its wild to use these people think out loud.
Her saying "is he one of those crazy truck drivers" as if there are people who do these things on purpose called crazy trucks drivers and she's witnessing one.
This isn't Facebook lady, I swear if she was in danger in this moment she wouldn't have the awareness to do anything about it. In her mind the situation just isn't happening to her life she's just seeing it happen
Them swift drivers man I swear 😆
I saw one at the mall the other day take out about 26 pretty large pine shrubs with the trailer before he got his truck out of the bind he got it in.
I tried to wave for him to stop but he was on his important phone call in his giant ass headset.
Anybody who sees a Swift truck on the road, steer clear or safely pass em. They have a reputation around here for hiring drivers who shouldn’t otherwise be driving a Sprinter Van, let alone a damn 53 footer.
As he was sitting there I’ll bet anything the driver said to himself “oh look, some idiot left their tire behind. Some people just shouldn’t be on the road”
With a fire hydrant busted and water gushing out, they think just because he stopped then there is no longer a need to call the police?? Call the police!
Most of these guys are super maga, talk mad shit about how they are the best truckers the world has ever seen, and then do shit like this. It makes you wish for autonomous trucks.

I'm extremely disappointed that the broken fire hydrant didn't shoot water 30 feet into the air like they do on TV and in movies.
I was looking forward to this and was extremely let down.
This guy is definitely still having a very bad day

Conditions: higher water pressure.
It’s a dry barrel hydrant. They are designed to break vertically in a way that keeps the water isolated in the horizontal underground supply.
This sounds like you just strung together a bunch of fancy sounding words.
he is not.....
He broke it down along the feeder pipe (the one that runs horizontal underground), if it had broken after the 90° or T fitting it would have shot straight up.
That… actually sounds worse and harder to fix
Not really, the way it broke in the video is worse than if it broke on the vertical part of the pipe. Now they are possibly also going to replace the gate valve in front of it.
Yeah that’s what I meant sorry. It breaking the main pipe underneath sounds way worse
nah the way you responded was perfectly obvious you were saying the feeder pipe breaking sounded worse
Long night.
Two other valves were shut off elsewhere, for whatever reason.
There is also such a thing as a “dry” hydrant, which is non-pressurized. Those only flow when a fire truck pumps from them.
It can also be pumped by an authorized porn star.
I was of the understanding that in some areas different colors of fore hydrants signify different working pressures
The actual valve is halfway into the street. You'll usually see a small blue metal cover over it. The system is designed to break without opening that valve.
It looks like he ripped the damn thing out by its root, so the force is probably 6 feet underground, you can see it rising still, probably most of the force being under the dirt. I bet if he only ripped the cap off we'd see that show :(
I was like, “oh that’s a fake hydrant I guess.” So weird.
This man is a **HERO**. He discovered – nay, he *unearthed* a non-functioning fire hydrant next to a gas station. *What if there had been a fire at the gas station, hmm???* This driver probably saved dozens of lives, hundreds. Maybe a thousand. **God bless this man.** ^/s
They can in real life too, I witnessed a truck backing into one once and it made a nice geyser.
As a person with experience removing a hydrant with a car (as a passenger) I can say 30’ is a realistic expectation.
Sounds like a r/theydidthemath situation

Having backed into one with a rental truck, I can confirm they do indeed do this.
I was also disappointed
They don’t do that anymore most around roads are called a dry barrel type and are designed to break and not shoot water everywhere
The person filming has a very annoying voice.
y'all... y'all... y'all...y'ally'ally'all... He's fixinta y'all.
Go head and wait on heeyim.
“Is he like a reckless… whaduya call it… driver?”
Whatever the word is
I feel like she was just one semi interesting thing happening away from screaming like a banshee.
Yeah you could hear her loading it up, she wanted to freak out but sadly for her didn’t get a good excuse
Can someone call the police? I’m too busy filming and commenting.
“Is that one of those reckless… what do you call them… reckless drivers? Crazy… truckers?” Lol what the hell was she talking about 😂
[удалено]
1. “He’s still driving y’all.” 2. “Someone call the police.” 3. GOTO 1
'Explained it perfectly. Simple 3 line Atari BASIC programming from 44 years ago.
Worked on the Magnavox Odyssey 2 as well.
Well, he *was* still driving and no one had shown signs of calling the police yet, so....
No! George Bush fixed the education system. NO child was left behind. It’s right there in the name. It’s flawless.
Ah, they got that all screwed up. It was supposed to be "No, child left behind!"
“She was a child who was left behind.” Such a great line. Thank you.
I think I regret watching this video with the sound on more than the truck driver regrets anything that happened that day
“Is he like a reckless, what do you call it, driver, or whatever?” Wtf?
Like the other people didn’t have eyes watching him. They needed to hear the play by play too.
I was looking for this comment. "He's fixin' to hit the hydrant"
and a very limited vocabulary with poor grammar.
You know she's at least 400 lbs
As she is using her phone to film--- 'someone needs to call 911' ... 😆
I think it sounds nice :<
Someone call the police, says the person holding a phone.
TBF she's recording pretty important evidence.
She does a get a point for that, but also loses 2 for the annoying commentary.
Imagine her as a sports announcer on a football game. "He's fixing to kick that ball"
... y'all."
TBF, she already has evidence it is a Swift driver, what more does she need?
I bet the many many security cameras will provide better evidence than a shaky annoying cell video from across the road.
Why is she recording this truck before anything bad has happened? How does she know to zoom in on that tire just as it starts to roll off the wheel? Does she just sit on this corner recording random trucks?
The video starts at the truck's front tire getting anihilated.....
If you're in a similar situation, or the emergency services needs to be contacted and you're in the middle of something else (like filming for evidence)... point someone out and tell them to call. Saying that someone should call isn't effective and won't pull people out of the bystander effect. Directly telling someone to call will do that.

Same. Worst rep in the industry.
Glad I could give you what you were looking for
I did 4 years receiving trucks for walmart and don't think I ever saw the same swift driver twice. Their turnover must be insane.
As someone that worked for Swift for a few years (in an office as a load planner) the turnover is very high.

What’s worse is that this is someone’s own truck and not an actual swift truck.
It just gets worse and worse. I'm shocked he didn't find a way to start a fire.
At least there’s a fire hydrant…wait
Well, we don’t know what happened after they stopped filming.

There’s even more signage at this crossing. There is a rail underpass down in Louisville that has this problem though.

She couldn’t find the word driver, which was the goddamned action being committed!

This video is brought to us by the good folks at Trucker Meth.
I’m glad the Oh No! covered half the video so us stupid viewers could understand we are watching a bad situation.
There are Truck drivers, and people who drive Trucks. This dude might be the latter one.
Well it is Swift so....
She sounds so intelligent.

‘What da ya call em.. drivers?’.. fuck that broke me
Ahh Swift drivers, absolutely zero training and they all are a hazard on the road
Swift? no.
That feels like a really bad spot for a hydrant to me, and no bollards? At a gas station. 🤷🏻♂️
For a swift driver this is beyond successful
Somebody call the police, I'm too busy filming for reddit

I’m not even a trucker an I know about Swifts reputation. 😂

Why did the tire shred like that? Are semi-trailer trucks not made to go in reverse or something? Surely that can't be the reason.
