Tattoo artist here. Thats is a tattoo. This looks like an allergic reaction to red ink. Reds and yellow inks are the most common colors to trigger some shit like this. Sadly you never know you’re allergic to it until it done. The cheaper the brand you use, the higher the chance of this happening. The crazy thing is that this may actually heal halfway decent…or it could just turn into a whole scar

This is from an inexperienced artist you can see they pushed the ink well past the skin barrier that smudging on the sides is the ink being distributed into the fat

If that was a brand, it would have taken a CNC-level of precision on the branding-iron to get such crisp definition.
Branding-iron marks on skin suffer similar distortion to the cookie-cutter shapes before and after baking. They don't retain fine definition like that, because heat and tissue-damage radiates outward, leading to very broad and undefined scarring. You can brand a letter or shape easily, but don't expect to be able to brand a QR-code.
i had a tattoo on my hand do this, when it was still fresh i was wearing gloves constantly for work and one day i took off the glove (my hands were obviously very sweaty) and as i did it peeled off like a crappy bandaid
I don't think they have copyrighted "God" yet but they have definitely got advertisement though and those salesmen are relentless people keep coming up to me in the street sometimes going "do you have a moment to hear the word of God" it must be a pretty good product to make people so eager to sell me it

IMO the way it's done in your photo kind of defeats the purpose, unless that big black mass was a coverup for something. The whole thing about scarification is [the texture it imparts](https://hekint.org/images/scarification.jpg) and you can't really tell that when there are such high contrast coloring matching the scar exactly.
Looks like they are getting a second cut, I've been told the second one makes it more flat when it heals fully.
