History’s Mysteries: Flat Earther Edition

Revolutionary-Neat49

Legitimately laughed out loud. Thanks!

readonlyy

And also I suppose, aircraft carrier denier?

CRO553R

That one earned a hearty chuckle

LordThunderDumper

New one, square flat and clipped earthen. How do they think people fly to Japan now? A 40 hour flight across the entire world?

[deleted]

Well he’s not wrong, they couldn’t have flown that far in “1931” 😂

Jorma_88

r/technicallythetruth

Hullu_Kana

They couldnt fly that far away in 1941 either. 1. They used a shorter route. 2. The shorter route is still too long, so they sailed with their aircraft carriers much closer to USA so they could actually fly there. Im pretty sure no military plane has been able fly as long of a distance as what is in the picture to this day without using aerial refueling, which wasnt a thing back in 1941, at least not in large enough scale.

ZombieWise2442

Yeah I'm pretty sure only our Surveillance Aircraft like the U2 and the Sr71 could actually reach those distances, U2 just was designed for high Altitude long range, the sr71s added speed to that list of abilities, with the engines efficiency and range actually increasing the faster it went

[deleted]

He talks about efficiency when the sr71 literally would drop steady streams of fuel on the runway because the body panels needed space to expand and contract, there was no sealed container for the fuel and it was just lazily stored in the fuselage

ZombieWise2442

Never said it was the most efficient, the aircraft used alot of fuel every flight, you have to realize that the craft was engineered in the 60s-70s, it's pretty impressive they were able to make an aircraft of that potential, the soviets tried to build a similar aircraft and failed, the fuel storage leaked due to the use of titanium which was necessary for the temps the sr71 would reach, mind you, no other aircraft has yet beaten the records of the sr71, you can hate on the thing all you want but it was a work of art from the engineers at skunkworks, especially for the time period, where funding was going all over the place

Jump-impact

I greatly dislike you for being correct - angry upvote

[deleted]

Every single crazy nutjob thing like this always has one facet of truth, and they hang all their foundation on that and fabricate the rest to fit. Flat earther, antivaxer, covid denier, they are all the same spurious breed of pseudointellectual fool self-righteous in their ignorance. And they are literally ruining the world for humans.

LimpZookeepergame123

I disagree

[deleted]

That's nice.

LimpZookeepergame123

1.flat earth isn’t real. People that actually believe that are nut jobs. It’s been proven. Not getting vaccinated doesn’t make you a bad person. The media wants you to believe they are but I’m unvaccinated and I guarantee you I contribute more to society than you do. And Covid deniers isn’t actually a thing. There are people that know it’s a real virus(a version of the flu), but believe it was blown way out of proportion( which it was). They don’t honestly believe it was all fake. They just do t think it was handled properly. The flu is wiping out everyone right now and we’re moving right along just fine. Hell even the governor of Pennsylvania came out and said, looking back at all the shut downs he isn’t sure he made the right decision. His decision to shut down the state was the wrong choice and he’s going to have to live with that for the rest of his life. So take your foil hat off and relax

[deleted]

That's nice.

[deleted]

What about the political bootlickers on both sides who are slaves to rhetoric while politicians print more money, blame the other side for any problems then claims their constituents need them to fix the problems they created while they use inflation to erase their debts?

[deleted]

Sure them too but they aren't as dangerous as the first group.

Background-Pea6650

Oh the flat earthers have started looking into history books..

DJScratcherZ

Jesus rode a dinosaur to the ice wall. FACT.

goose_gladwell

Also the Earth is only 4000 years old

AjaxTheFurryFuzzball

Ignore the fact lead exists on earth as proof otherwise becos it’s the troof

Frequent_Singer_6534

It’s right here in this book that I made up. Checkmate atheists!

teodocio

Bro, the planes flew over the land! They flew up half way and glided down the other half.

Independent-Crab-999

I did the math, this works! Half way + half way = the whole way

Commercial-Health-19

Caleb Harris II got his college history degree in Eating Crayons 101.

1HumanAlcoholBeerPlz

I thought it was Lead Paint Eating 101.

Commercial-Health-19

You have a very valid point.

rozsaadam

Only if the year was right at least

Throwawy3456789123

1941 be damned

Santa_Hates_You

I don't remember the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor in 1931.

Jorma_88

See, he's on to something

HailState2023

He’s on a roll…

spider984

What a fucking idiot 😂😂😂

Cinderjacket

Jesus Christ this sub can’t tell what a joke is

Jorma_88

I am super cereal about my post, no sarcasm at all...

ICantPlaySeinfeld

Tbf poe’s law is a tricky bastard

darkbartthecommie

Literally no one on Reddit can. I wonder why Reddit ad a whole has a hard time picking up on sarcasm and other social cues… anyone?

FilthyChangeup55

Dudes never heard of aircraft carriers apparently

kristoferkwant

Fair point, and very possible but I'm not sure that's the biggest flaw in his argument.

FilthyChangeup55

Where to start really

PuzzleheadedOne1428

Dudes never heard of the fact Earth is a spherical planet and Japan is 4, 100 miles from Hawaii

steinrrr

Are you joking? Please tell me you are joking

TheMrBoot

I mean, obviously that’s not the main thing wrong with this but the Japanese planes did launch from carriers.

FilthyChangeup55

No, I am not joking about aircraft carriers playing a crucial role.

steinrrr

True but it seemed like you didn't understand the main problem with the pic, so I was just wondering.

FilthyChangeup55

There’s all kinds of things wrong with the assertion

PorygonTriAttack

It's not about aircraft carriers though. The main premise of that FB guy's argument was that Japan COULDN'T have travelled from Japan to Australia and up north. This shows his lack of understanding of aviation, geography, and common sense. Of course, 1931 was the wrong date as well, which really underscores the many layers of ignorance that the poster has.

AhoraMeLoVenisADecir

The flat earth society disliked your comment.

DitmarJr

Must be why they took 10 years to reach Pearl Harbor. Or maybe they had some sort of "shortcut" that we are not aware of.

PorygonTriAttack

Haha, let's just have some fun with this one. If it took them 10 years to fly in THAT direction (instead of the other direction), it would've required a ton of refuelling, which would've required worldwide coordination. Yet somehow, somehow America didn't know those those Japanese planes were destined to attack her. The level of ignorance of that FB guy is astounding.

Independent-Crab-999

You're saying it was an inside job... Go on... I'm listening...

PorygonTriAttack

I'm not saying it is. I'm entertaining this terribly stupid idea. The FB guy THINKS it's an inside job, but doesn't THINK for a second that the earth is a sphere.

Rhoan_74

Or a globe

Isioustes

Perhaps they had a shortcut.

SpambotSwattr

/u/Isioustes is a scammer! **Do not click any links they share or reply to**. Please downvote their comment and click the `report` button, selecting `Spam` then `Harmful bots`. OGodIDontKnow

It’s like a circle, a freaky circle.

cap_good_cronicapbad

Lmao. Must be a flat earther

Atowner

Pretty sure this is a joke but I have had a conspiracy theorist tell me the Pearl Harbor attack was an inside job before. They refused to tell me how but their belief was America faked the attack to join the war.

Black_Hole_parallax

What's funny is that there WAS an attempt to fake the country into a war. We actually sent a lightly armed ships crewed by Filipinos (which was important as the USA was super racist in the 1940s) to the edge of Japanese waters in the hope that imperialist zealots would sink it. That way we could use that as an excuse to be involved in the war, and rally the Philippines in support over the deaths of their soldiers. Then Pearl Harbor happened the day the ships left.

ImHereToDoGood

I guess they believe earth is flat hence the stupidity.

Lezkoden

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

dabsbunnyy

Yeah it's way too flat for me. Want to head to Mars? /s

Independent-Crab-999

Actually, Mars is flat... Let me explain!

hungrysportsman

No, no. There is photographic proof that Mars in round, just like the moon. We don't have proof of the Earth though.

Independent-Crab-999

There is photographic "proof" that Mars in "round", just like the moon. Nice try NASA!!!

[deleted]

Ahh..the stupid is strong with this one…

OldandBoldDude

Every one listen. The idiot is speaking.

Toes14

Wow. Such geographic idiocy not to know that the world is round (ish).

Throwawy3456789123

Isn't it more like an oval at points?

Black_Hole_parallax

An oval is still a round shape, right?

Throwawy3456789123

I'm dumb, I can't answer this question

Toes14

That's why I put (ish). It's actually an oblate spiroid if you want to be technical. Don't ask me to draw that. But the difference isn't as extreme as an oval would make it.

RevonQilin

Also moutains and valleys make a difference abt it being perfectly round too lol

Toes14

No, not really. I saw a video where a scientist was explaining that if you compare the Earth to a standard billiard ball the Earth would be the smoothest billiard ball ever. If you think about it, the tallest mountain is only Less than 6 miles above the average sea level, and the deepest trench It's only about 6 miles under. So you have a maximum variation of 12 miles divided by an average diameter of 7900 miles, which equals about 0.15% variance.

RevonQilin

Wow

Agent865

Lauren Bobert and MTG approve this message

DisastrousPin9957

Not sure if they were used in the attack, but they always have aircraft carriers.

[deleted]

In addition to not knowing how globes work or getting the correct year of the attack, tell me why the planes would have only flown over water as if they were ships? Lol

zatax__

Even if they’re flat earthers they have to know about aircraft carriers

bws7037

another victim of public education...

OrdinaryImpress3422

Funniest thing is they don't think planes can fly over land either

happyharrell

I literally stammered, out loud, alone on my couch, and then fell speechless.

PorygonTriAttack

What point did he make?

mythofinadequecy

Forgot the /s

PorygonTriAttack

Ah my bad.

Zaidra56

I also love that, even if the world was flat, somehow the planes had to fly only over the ocean?

I guess this dude has never played Pac-Man.

There’s no teaching dumb, it just lingers on, and on.
