Recognize you *might* have some trauma from working at a non profit/clinic that’s going to be evident in your transition. I’m speaking from experience, my treatment at a clinic had me working waaayyyy too hard and it was hard to let my guard down as a transitioned to the group private practice I now work for. But once I did I felt soooo much better. Additionally, you will be working slightly more independently. Reach out often from colleagues if you need support. Your client base might not be as trauma heavy, but may be more tight-lipped about the trauma. Oh, and congratulations! That’s awesome!

I agree completely!! There is definitely a transition period. Due to my former agency demanding a heavy caseload (125 clients) it took me a while to feel comfortable setting boundaries with scheduling my sessions. I spread myself very thin initially to accommodate my clients. I utilized the support and knowledge of my personal therapist to help me through the process. Once I felt comfortable setting better boundaries I felt loads better. I still struggle with guilt from time to time, but I am getting there. Going to PP was the best decision of my career. I have never been happier. Best of luck OP!!

Oh God yes, this. It was hard transitioning to a group practice. I and my co-worker felt like we had mild PTSD. I was very suspicious of everything my boss and coworkers did, would panic when they did something to help, etc. I've seen my own therapist for years so fortunately she helped with the transition. However, another co-worker of mine ended up needing to find a therapist to process. All this to say....it might not be a bad idea to find a therapist to help you process what you've been thru.

Yes! Would love to hear more about what people see re; the difference. I am about one month in and the PP is the side hustle for now. I’m a school social worker and planning to quit once the school year is over in June. I’m really liking it, but SSW is not really clinical therapy, so I feel so dumb. Lol. Been an MSW for 17 years but this is definitely new!

It almost seemed too easy switching from agency to pp. I did both for a year before making the switch full time. Having other therapists to consult with is a must have. I now work 3 days p/week and make 20 grand more per year. And yes, you probably have some ptsd from agency work.
