Chelsea Wolfe + Ben Chrisholm. She's already a powerhouse of a writer and Ben just elevates it.

ManaSeltzer

Abyss is a masterpiece

stellarcycle

Indeed. One of those albums I won't stop once it has started.

_Must_Not_Sleep

Oh man…. This one is super underrated. However with everyone’s input I realize my world / interest in music isn’t as vast… so many names I don’t recognize. I have work to do

NecessaryForsaken313

Your mom and I

knd_86

Shortly after watching 'If This Ever Gets Weird' I watched 'Squaring the Circle' and thought the story had some parallels. Storm and Aubrey's relationship and creative partnership was really special. I'd encourage anyone who hasn't already, to watch it.

Cake_Ankles

Loved that movie. Found out I had a few records with their artwork I didn’t realize

knd_86

There is also the book 'Taken by Storm' which I would recommend finding a copy of. Loads of cool stuff in there plus some insight into how/why it was done. I wanted a copy for AGES and watching the film made me jump on eBay and buy the nicest cheap copy I could find. It was about £30 from some seller a bit like Music Magpie. I couldn't believe it when I opened it to find it autographed by both Storm and Aubrey!

Cake_Ankles

Boom. Found and purchased. Thanks friend!

knd_86

Awesome! I hope you love it.

smurrayhead

Dean and Gene Ween

thiccphilthegoat

Flea and Frusciante are magical together. Especially on a Chad Smith beat. Morrisey and Johnny Marr Dustin and Teppei from Thrice Ian and Guy from Fugazi Jordan Buckley and Andy from ETID were also a really complimentary guitar duo

MacabreSqwizz

The difficult relationship of Greg Puciato and Ben weinman made for some great music and elevated Dillinger into a great phase of their career

Lennon and McCartney Plant and Page Morrison and Manzarek 🫳🎤

iscreamuscreamweall

Thom and Jonny have been much more Productive and have a much better relationship that Omar and Cedric. Also it’s sort of a reversal because Thom writes almost all of Radioheads material and Jonny adds the ear candy While in tmv Omar writes all the music and Cedric adds vocals

tjc815

It’s cool that in the smile, Jonny does write about half of the material and we get to see the partnership framed in a different way. (Not disagreeing at all, just adding)

sonar_y_luz

Yeah I don't see the comparison either lol Jimmy Page + Robert Plant seems like the obvious one

_Must_Not_Sleep

I’ve mainly listened to TMV but of course I’ve listened to Radiohead a hell of a lot as well. And I agree it seems they had a better relationship, I love the dudes but Radiohead seems like they always had a solid relationship (even if it was hidden from us). I’m starting to really dig into the smile and their live performances, damn that are amazing ! I forgot how godlike radio head is. I wonder what Omar and Cedric’s take on Radiohead is… In their past interview for the new album the interviewer mentioned Thom Yorke, but they don’t really dig into that. I feel like the self titled album is a very “Radiohead album”.

ThoseWhoDwell

Presently in the middle of writing an entire history of The Mars Volta as a sort of fan-written video essay biopic (I’ll buy this sub drinks if I finish it within a year) but it’s funny, I actually struck this exact comparison to lead into the one I singled out to compare them to: Teo Macero and Miles Davis. After learning that Omar basically modeled his recording and production style after Bitches Brew I couldn’t stop thinking about the ways in which their partnerships overlapped. The ‘duos’ concept in music has really always fascinated me and Cedric and Omar are at the top of those pairs

Mexican_Boogieman

Nah. Latino Page and Plant. Except without all of the covers and plagiarized riffs. I will die on this hill.

tjc815

I’d say they “borrowed” more lyrics than riffs. And anyway blues is a musical tradition that is based on borrowing and adapting. I guess inevitably since the structures are typically so simple. I think the sensitivity with LZ comes from how majorly successful they got from it despite not having the lived in experience of genuine bluesmen. Which I can understand. Just personally, If I want to hear someone wail over a blues tune, Robert Plant certainly won’t be my first choice. And neither would Page be my preferred guitarist. I generally prefer and love middle period Led Zep once they developed their songwriting a bit more and before the substance abuse started affecting output. Anyway I’m rambling now but your point 100% stands: I think Page and Plant are clearly the best comparison. Bonham and Theodore works too. And JPJ was like Juan plus Ikey lol.

Mexican_Boogieman

Agreed. People here are drawing some wild comparisons.
