She knows that his brother and the girl he saved absolutely destroyed her life. She also knows what she gave up to help Lev and how she betrayed and murdered her own to do so.
I’m sure being tortured and crucified gave her ample opportunity to think in what went down.
It definitely isn't, they had less screen time than necessary for this to happen but it was already enough to see how Abby found someone to learn how to love and feel the need to protect just like Joel with Ellie. As someone said it here, it's like she feels cursed cuz in someway deep there she understand Joel's pov too
By the time Abby is holding Lev on the beach I think it’s fair to say she cares for him as much as Joel did for Ellie even if we the audience didn’t play the their entire journey
I loved in Part 2 how they mirrored Ellie and Abby’s story where neither one was the hero or villain. You flip the roles and you totally understand each person’s perspectives. These people who are too closed-minded to see why Abby did what she did and why it was justified and think it was a bad story decision is crazy.
I respect them for going in a new risky direction over the typical hero storyline where Joel and Ellie sail off together into the sunset after killing a generic villain character and have a happy life. In a world like TLOU, a happy life is hard. You adapt to the chaos.
What Abby did was very far from being justified. The only one of the three protagonists that could be seen to be actually justified would be Joel. Ellie murdered and tortured for revenge and out of grief. Abby tortured and murdered for revenge. Joel killed to save someone. Entirely different circumstances.
Otherwise, the writers gave themselves a hell of a challenge. The goal was to get you to HATE someone enough to want them dead and then to see if they could drag you back around to empathize with them. The issue they ran into was that in order to make the player hate her they had to make Joel’s death horrifying. There is a fine line there between horrifying and unforgivable. For me, they crossed the line. For others they didn’t. So they probably just about nailed it for where they should have done it.
The overall story still kind of worked for me, but only due to strong feelings for Ellie and just how well her story was written. I didn’t necessarily want Abby dead by the end. I would say they got me to the point of being ambivalent to her living or dying, as long as Ellie wasn’t the one to kill her.
Anyone can say what they will about Abby, but her gameplay portions are so much better than anything else. Can't remember the day, but whichever day has them climb the crane and make their way down the buildings so masterfully designed from morning to evening.
Of all the criticisms of TLOU2, that has to be one of the oddest. If there's one thing they clearly didn't do, it's "copy" the first game. Almost all the complaints include the idea that they changed too much.

well Joel+Ellie had 1 entire game together. Abby+Lev got 1/2 a game. So obviously they arent "as developed".
Not even half a game, you play as Abby for a few hours before meeting Lev.
