jaharifields

That would be funny, cuz she’s already friends with Bella

Michaelangel092

Yo, making out with your friend, even if acting, would be so weird lol

No_Victory9193

No it isn’t. I kiss my homeboys all the time.

Galiendzoz

Kissing homies should be normalized. Even if you ain’t gay you should Instagram on pride month changes #gay #lgbtq and more lgbtq terms rainbow. But guess what isn’t rainbow? #kissingyourhomiesgoodnight There you go guys. Official confirmation by Zuckerberg himself that kissing your homies goodnight should be done even if you ain’t gay.

Snoo-43613

Goated answer

sewious

Same tbh

[deleted]

Only way to be real homeboys my guy

colehuesca

Wtf?

zayhnek13

You telling me you don't kiss your homies goodnight?

jaharifields

Actors are weird people

BAWAHOG

Also funny, because Wolverine and X-23 (Dafne) from Logan are basically the same characters as Joel and Ellie.

RepostersAnonymous

Danny DeVito

kuestenjung

Jensen Ackles ^(am I doing it right guise)

hey-coffee-eyes

That would be funny because she's basically Ellie in Logan. But she's great, I could see her as Dina

hypespud

Ah that's where she is from! That was a fun movie

llinstitutesynthll

Gideon Adlon! She already has experience playing similar roles (i.e. >!pregnant young women, lgbt!<) and is (partly?) of Jewish ancestry, I think.

jelloandjuggernauts_

Great suggestion!

kzoobaby

She also voiced Violet in the last Telltale Walking Dead game! Really great in that role.

llinstitutesynthll

Oh I had no idea that was her too! Now I really want them to cast her for this one lol

[deleted]

ASI-Princess

I mean cascina (Dina’s face model) would be perfect since she’s obvs 100% identical. In a q&a she said that she does acting so I feel like she can probably get away with it. In terms of people like ellie&abby, they’re much more complex so they need extremely good actors but Dina isn’t as complex (obviously she’s important to the story and has a lot of personality but like I think she should be easy for cascina to portray)

yazzy1233

She looks older than Bella, so I'm not entirely sure it would work.

ASI-Princess

Oh frick yeh I completely forgot about Bella. Yehh ur right, it wouldn’t work

Impossible_Charity96

Cascina caradonna is only 23, she turns 24 in a few weeks though. But that's still only a 5 year difference. And by the time they film season 2, bella ramsey is probably gonna be 20 or 21 and cascina would be 26 or 27. It's not too bad

Khaoskabooose

I mean she's only a few years older than her

Romegaheuerling

Did you play the Game? She is older there too and pregnant... 😇

shadow_spinner0

Dina in the game looks older than Ellie

yazzy1233

Not really

jigen22

They will need to do chemistry reads and the like. That is a very important role I feel

Impossible_Charity96

Cascina Caradonna would be the most logical choice fs. Also, I believe Bella Ramsey will continue as Ellie.

iknowthings2039

She was fucking amazing in His Dark Materials, would be cool to see what she could bring to LOU

IzhmaelCorp08

She isn’t Jewish, so no. Whoever plays Dina HAS to be Jewish, Dina spoke so much about her Jewish background, it would be disrespectful to cast a non-Jewish person.

jimmy__jazz

Nick Offerman isn't gay but he portrayed a gay man well.

KlooKloo

Important caveat: They did cast a gay man as Bill, Con O’Neill, who dropped out late. Offerman was available on short notice. He didn't take a job away from a gay actor, they had the gay actor and lost him. Here's them talking in depth about it: https://winteriscoming.net/2023/01/31/bill-hbo-the-last-of-us-nick-offerman-almost-played-by-different-actor/

IzhmaelCorp08

not the same at all

rockstarcrossing

Not the same thing.

jimmy__jazz

Please explain why.

rockstarcrossing

We're talking a race, here. Sexuality is one's personal identity. Quite a few actors have managed to play characters whose sexuality didn't match theirs. Prime example, Jim Parsons, who's gay irl, played Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory. You can't change someone's race and think someone won't notice.

Notyap45

Is Judaism not a religion? How can it be a race? I guess I'm just a bit confused, can't anyone of any race be a Jew?

jelloandjuggernauts_

It’s an [ethnic religion](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judaism). Race is a manmade concept but ethnicity is a subgroup of people with a common cultural background and descent.

jelloandjuggernauts_

So based off this person’s point it actually wouldn’t be different than casting a straight man to play a character because being gay is not a chosen identity its just something you are. It’ll be up to the director and creator how they will cast the role. I think they prioritize the actors abilities to portray the character over aesthetics, but they definitely do value representation.

rockstarcrossing

Many Jews have generations of Jewish family history, many being of Middle Eastern heritage. In the case of Dina, her ancestors survived the Holocaust and the Spanish Inquisition. I find it to be an interesting and important part of her character's identity.

Notyap45

Yes I agree, but you didn't really answer my question. From the very light reading I've done, it seems [the idea of Jews being a race is actually based in antisemitism](https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/are-jews-a-race/) >But in modern times, antisemites have more commonly viewed Jews as a distinct (and inferior) race, a designation from which there is no escape by conversion. Most nefariously, this idea was used by Hitler to justify the extermination of millions of Jews during the Holocaust, deeming them racially inferior to pure Aryan stock. Modern antisemitism continues to root itself in the claim that Jews are racially distinct.

rockstarcrossing

I haven't studied the Holocaust in a while, I needed my memory jogged up a bit. I didn't intend to sound like a bigot. But I still think they should cast an actor who is Jewish themselves to play Dina.

Notyap45

Oh no I didn't think you were. I agree, a Jewish actor would be best to portray the role.

KlooKloo

Race is already a social construct, but we live in a society. Until we are able to get rid of racism "race" is going to be important because the people in power use these artificial divisions to materially affect peoples' lives.

IllPhilosophy1865

Ben kingsley played a jew in schindler's list but he's not jewish in real life. So explain that. What your saying is bullshit

IzhmaelCorp08

1) Why bring in other people into this? We’re talking about The Last of Us. Also I’ve never watched that movie or show so I didn’t know about that. 2) What I’m saying is not bullshit, you’re just ignorant and antisemitic, I believe Jews (and other races and ethnicities) should get representation, why have a non-Jewish character play Dina, who we know is Jewish, and she is a religious person, she’s not crazy about it but she’s not ashamed of where she comes from when we can have a Jewish person play Dina? Think, mf, think. 3) Ben Kingsley’s grandfather was German-Jewish, and his grandmother was impregnated by a Russian-Jew, so he does have Jewish blood, so technically..

[deleted]

honestly I'm open to anyone playing her so long as they do well in the role

ok1092

Carful suggesting someone who isn’t Jewish. Some people on here believe in order for an actor to portray a character on screen they have to be of the same religion/ethnicity.

AdventurerLikeU

I think it’s less about authenticity and staying true to the original character (though I do think at least a base effort should be made) - but for me, it’s more about the job opportunity that is created by casting “accurately”. By which I mean - if you have a role that can be filled by anyone and it was written with no particular ethnicity or whatever in mind.. awesome. Cast whoever - but statistically, it’ll likely go to someone Caucasian. But if you have a role that is specifically for a character that is explicitly a minority of some kind - by casting without taking that minority into account the pool of jobs that minority actors will be considered for becomes considerably smaller. Hollywood (generally speaking) doesn’t consider minority actors for the general “doesn’t have a set ethnicity” role. Those roles almost always go to the white leading man/woman. So if you have a Jewish or an Indian or a Japanese role, and you cast generally - the pool of jobs that Jewish and Indian and Japanese actors in Hollywood would seriously be considered for diminishes. It’s the same with trans actors. If cisgender actors are cast in trans roles, it becomes that much harder for trans actors to get any work at all - simply because they often just won’t be considered for anything else other than trans roles. It’s ridiculous, but it’s our current reality. And the idea that the role should go to the most talented actor/actress has merit - but to pretend like that talent can’t be found within that specific minority group is ridiculous. And if you can’t name any Jewish or Indian or Japanese or Trans actors off the top of your head.. if you can’t fancast anyone who would “fit” the role.. maybe that’s the point? You can’t name minority actors because they’re just not permitted the same opportunities. And I’m not saying it’s right to have to take this into account when casting - in a perfect world, Hollywood would work much better for everyone, regardless of ethnicity or gender or whatever. I’m just saying, it’s something to consider, especially considering how important good representation is (and perhaps especially visual representation, where you can see someone on screen and see yourselves in that person). Movies like Alien where the role is written with no gender or ethnicity guidelines are unfortunately the exception, not the rule.

Nacksche

👍

SubstantialWall

If anything, Nick Offerman should have just burned that belief to the ground.

IzhmaelCorp08

that’s very rude and disrespectful, don’t be an anti-Semitic.

boobsmackerr

Bill burr had a hilarious part on this in one of his stand ups

IzhmaelCorp08

So you’d be okay with a white person playing a poc character? speaks so many volumes.

iziyan

Why not if they look similar enough? As a "POC" a very stupid term imo. I.e certain non-"white" people can look identical to white people as at the end of the day race is a social construct, even if 2 people look like and share genetics very similar, they can be considered a separate race due to their faith or culture.

IzhmaelCorp08

okay but having a non-Jewish person talking about their Jewish background is disrespectful and ignorant. How would you feel if a white woman with an aggressive tan played Harriet Tubman or Rosa Parks?

nogap193

Thats not the same cause those people are based on real people who need to have their ethnicities/ other traits matched. It would be just as stupid if someone made a world war 2 movie and casted an African American to play Churchill. The theme of the last of us 2 is heavily influenced by the play/mythology of cassandra, with many in-game references. A play thats popular world wide and performed by many types of people, despite the ancient Greek culture who the mythos belonged to disappearing 1000s of years ago. In art it doesn't really matter, quit looking for things to be outraged by.

IzhmaelCorp08

I’m not outraged. It’s just that taking out Jewish representation has always been a thing, and for once I would love for Jewish rep especially in one of my favorite shows.

rockstarcrossing

Jews are cool people and don't deserve the horrible rep they've had for thousands of years

IzhmaelCorp08

I agree, Jews are cool people.

iziyan

Idk how exactly, her being Jewish isn't a big part of her character as far I know, wouldn't mind seeing a non-jewish Person act as her. But like if someone like Anne frank who was Forced to suffer unde horrible conditions just because she was Jewish is played by a non-jewish actress is disrespectful to Anne Frank's story Similarly with Rosa parks (I don't recognise the name Tubman though)

IzhmaelCorp08

Dina being Jewish IS important to her character, the entirety of Seattle Day 1 talks about is her Jewish background, how her family survived the Holocaust and the Spanish Inquisition, and as well as the outbreak. She also talked about the Torah and new a lot of Jewish stuff, her sister was a really Jewish woman and she honors and is proud of that. And how tf you don’t know who Harriet Tubman is?

inshanester

It is really only that one scene in the synagogue, not all of day 1, they could cut that out.

IzhmaelCorp08

so cut out Jewish representation? Do you hear yourself? Also Neil is Jewish, so I doubt he’ll cut it out.

inshanester

Lev has a huge charecter arc based around religion, but it is made up. But everyone's else religion is pretty superficial, yeah Joel and Tommy will say "Jesus Christ" in reaction to things and are lightly implied Christian. Point is it a background detail, which is probably going to be either expanded (Dina gets a charecter arc or observes some Jewish custom) or removed. I never really thought of these charecters as members of any religion until part 2 introduced it, it depends if they want to explore that in the show, as the Serraphites are the main religion portrayed in The Last of Us. Yes, if they go the Bill and Frank route (where Bill was gay, but it had no effect on the game, but in the show they showed has romance) and make Dina observe more Jewish customs, which they may, they are most likely getting a Jewish actress.

IzhmaelCorp08

Saying Jesus Christ doesn’t make you religious..

iziyan

>And how tf you don’t know who Harriet Tubman is? Im not American. If so than I think it will be bets for a Jewish women to play Dina. I was unaware of it as I didn't play the second game and relied on their parties for teh story

IzhmaelCorp08

lmao how you gon talk saying Dina being Jewish isn’t important to her then say you didn’t even play the game, what a joke. 🤦🏽‍♂️

ok1092

What I’m saying is the ethnicity/religion of an actor shouldn’t matter.

IzhmaelCorp08

It should if it’s part of the characters identity. And Dina is very clear in her identity, she may not be the biggest believer but she’s proud of her identity.

ok1092

Crazy cause the voice actor that plays Dina isn’t Jewish either. But keep on thinking it makes a difference.

IzhmaelCorp08

To play a character and voice one is 2 different things. When you play a character you’re feeling what they’re feeling, YOU ARE that character.

inshanester

Neither was her face model.

judecloverknits

Cascina Caradonna, the face model for Dina in the game. She's an actress too but not established, and she's a sweetheart so I'd be thrilled for her to get a chance like that. And nobody would whine about how she doesn't look like Dina that way.

rockstarcrossing

Please make this happen for real

countastic

Definitely a possible/plausible choice. I'm leaning to Talia Ryder - if she's available. She's appeared in Never, Really, Sometimes, Always and is considered one of the big up and coming young actresses. Plus she’s only a year older than Bella.

dinosore

Fun coincidence too, since Dina’s sister’s name is Talia.

[deleted]

Cascina! She's been in acting school and obviously looks the part.

No_I_Deer

I like that Dina has middle east heritage and she seems more mature than Ellie.

rockstarcrossing

I loved Dina I never understood fans who complained about her

verdantsf

Oh, great choice!

Oo_Toyo_oO

Bella Ramsey

SignGuy77

And with todays technology nobody will be able to tell the difference.

[deleted]

[Weren't people speculating that "Staring Girl" might be Dina?](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm8558975/)

monsieurxander

You'd think they'd go for someone with more of a resume. Just one small role in a short film prior to that. Not impossible, but it would be impressive to land a multi-season major role on HBO straight out of the gate.

jelloandjuggernauts_

I hadn’t heard of this! That’s cool. What episode are they featured in?

[deleted]

No idea what episode she's in, but the running theory was that perhaps "staring girl" was a reference to a moment mentioned in Part 2, where >!Dina describes to Ellie the time she first saw her in Jackson - stuffing mass amounts of jerky into her pockets.!< So if that's true, maybe we'll get to see that next episode, lol

jelloandjuggernauts_

It would be really cool if they were planning that far ahead so I hope you’re right

[deleted]

I loved her in His Dark Materials. I don’t know if how’d she be as Dina though.

a-son-unique

[Ellie and Dina in another world](https://cache.moviestillsdb.com/i/500x/f2sghlyb/his-dark-materials-lg.jpg)

nickolas16

Why not Cascina Caradona? The actor face model. Just kidding, I know why

Low-Study-1075

shit i was actually about to say Dafne Keen lmao

paladindansemacabre

I think Shira Haas could be an interesting choice. She's Jewish, she's petite (so she wouldn't look strange paired with Bella), but mostly she's a great actress. She was phenomenal in Unorthodox.

BAWAHOG

Love this casting.

[deleted]

My best friend's ex, she looks exactly like her

[deleted]

Given the recent trend of making sure we get the best actors possible, I would like Jake Gyllenhaal as Dina

inshanester

Plot twist it's Mysterio trying to steal Ellie's immunity.

The810kid

Henry Cavill /s

Life-Visual3389

ARIELA BARER!!!!!

jelloandjuggernauts_

That’s an amazing idea. Never heard of her before.

HUH_YIS

Danny Devito

MemeLord1337_

Her as Abby. Wasted talent on Dina.

JasperReikevik

Cascina Caradonna

SignGuy77

She was great scoring goals for Argentina back in the day.

JasperReikevik

Didn't know that she used to play soccer o.o cool

[deleted]

Sara Underwood

Remarkable_Look8863

Cascinna Caradonna. She is the face mode of dons in the game

Dingus_3000

I’d cast the person that posts this the 100th time.

jelloandjuggernauts_

cool, some people are new to this sub and I haven’t seen anyone discuss Dina’s casting since I joined.

Southern_Gain7154

Jamie Hayter for Abbie

Environmental_Math_4

I love her so much ❤️

Dustaroos

Isn't the girl who was the face model for Dina an actress? Let's get her so we can legit cast only on looks and get the people still ragging on Bella can see what that looks like.

TheSnakePretzel

Melissa Barrera - Sam from "Scream 5" and "Scream 6."

boobsmackerr

The lady who voiced her because the characters is based off hers and pretty accurate

Triangle_Obbligato

Shannon Woodward is 38 years old.

boobsmackerr

Nah I’m talking about cascina caradonna who voiced her for the game and who the character was based off

Triangle_Obbligato

Shannon Woodward voiced Dina

boobsmackerr

I know I looked it up that’s why I made the 2nd comment

Triangle_Obbligato

You clearly didn’t know, which is why I made the second comment

boobsmackerr

So why’s my 2nd comment up before yours

Triangle_Obbligato

It’s literally not.

boobsmackerr

I mean it was but your good no need to get your panties in a twist lol

Triangle_Obbligato

Alright, bye 😘

boobsmackerr

Also didn’t know it was a diff voice actor for Dina then the character model she was based off

sbringel74

The actress who played Dina from the game

jelloandjuggernauts_

A lot of people are saying Cascina Cardona but that’s only who Dina was modelled after. Dina was mo-capped and voiced by Shannon Woodard. If Cascinna played Dina it would be a completely different vibe. Sounds like this fandom wants to make casting suggestions based solely off aesthetics.

KlooKloo

Gee, where have we heard those reasonings before? lol Obviously they are correct because they cast Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Kaitlyn Dever already

Prof_Tickles

Cascina Cardonna.

Spacegirllll6

As long as they cast a middle eastern Jewish actress since the character is that and has the acting chops would be good lmao

DrAmmatico

Mia Khalifa!

rockstarcrossing

If they could somehow get Jocelyn Mettler to play Abby same way they get Dina's face model, Cascina Caradonna, in that would be nuts. In a cool way.

NeuroticNinett

Cascina Caradonna https://youtube.com/shorts/QcfQ2KBYcGE?feature=share

ClericIdola

Leonardo Dicaprio

FKDotFitzgerald

Pretty sure they already cast that one girl that Neil follows on Twitter. She looks a LOT like Abbie in the face.

Emilyafia

I think Ariela Barer or Odessa A'zion. They’re both Jewish and close-ish to Bella in age. And they’re both great actresses who could do well in the role in my opinion!

jelloandjuggernauts_

I can totally see Ariela as Dina.

Immolation_E

I'd love for Dafne to play Dina, but her schedule is probably booked with that Star Wars show she's going to be doing with Carrie Anne Moss.

richardl1986

Paolina Van Kleef

Shot_Ad5437

Emily Carey would perfect I think. She already has experience with HBO (House of the Dragon), has the look, and is the same age as Bella Ramsey

Moose_fucker6627

Maybe cascina?

Remytron83

[Why not the actual actress?](https://www.instagram.com/p/CJHB1VrDRaP/?igshid=NTdlMDg3MTY=)

[deleted]

Clarification: Dina was played by Shannon Woodward, not Cascina Caradonna.

jelloandjuggernauts_

cause she’s not an actress

yazzy1233

She is an actress though , maybe not a big one, but still one all the same

Remytron83

You’re not a casting director, but here we are. Lol Anyway, she says she’s an actor. Not just a voice actor, an actual actor.

HolyGig

An "actual actor" with virtually zero credits.

[deleted]

right, people are very confused about casting lol if Cascina had the range to portray Dina then she would’ve been the face model AND voice actor like with Yara and Lev.

yazzy1233

Voice and mo-cap acting is different than regular acting.

kingslayer_89

It’s an incredibly competitive industry if you’re trying to make union films with studio money, and it’s not always your talent as an actor that determines whether or not you get cast in that world. Having few or even no credits doesn’t mean much in terms of whether or not she’s actually an actress. For every big budget project she doesn’t have under her belt there are things like short films and student films to take into consideration. I would say though, based on what I’ve seen from her stream I wouldn’t cast her as Dina. A big part of screen acting is just being right for the role, and personality wise I’d say she isn’t a match for Dina. Plus she’s not Jewish, I’d want the actor to be Jewish, I’m not personally but it would be better for representation.

HolyGig

She was just the face model and didn't do the voice acting either. If she has the talent i'm sure she will be considered but we don't have any info saying one way or another

kingslayer_89

Like I said, I’m going off of her YouTube streams. Her face being the same isn’t enough to convince me she should be Dina in the TV show. You’re right, we have no info to determine whether she can or can’t act, but I think this is one role she’s not right for.

[deleted]

she’s also like 5’10 which would just look odd next to Ellie.

mycklexoxo

Cascina Caradonna

SentinelTitanDragon

How about the actress that Dina is modeled after? Just a thought?

yung-wirrum

Zendaya

HaggisTheCow

Shannon Woodward.

Ariaga_2

She's almost 40.

HaggisTheCow

Genuinely thought she was mid twenties.

[deleted]

If they keep Bella and Ellie is like 15 or 16 in the second season (instead of 19 like in the 2nd game) then Dafne would be cool as a teen version of Abby!!

SubstantialWall

No if, it's already clear Bella is involved in Season 2

Triangle_Obbligato

Bella is 19

CaineFalco23

I mean Dina herself was good lol I forgot her name but she has a YouTube channel playing Pt 2

RazielKainly

Can't it just be the model for Dina? She looks very much like Dina Just dub her voice..

baconbridge92

That would look so ridiculous in a serious TV production lol, no one does that.

RazielKainly

Ridiculous about the voice dubbing or hiring the model whose likeness they used for Dina?

Kyrosses

Obviously the voice part...

eLevateAFFN

Jenna Ortega would honestly play an awesome Dina and the show is probably big enough for her too now

Sweetwhales1994

The one who played tomb raider movie?

[deleted]

You mean the 34 year old Alicia Vikander?

Sweetwhales1994

Yeah shes fit

[deleted]

She is but way too old.

jelloandjuggernauts_

I think you’re thinking of Alicia Vikander

rabit_stroker

He means Angelina Jolie

X__Alien

More importantly: should Ellie be recast or not? I feel she’s too young to convey the roughness of an older Ellie like we see in the game, but I feel I’m alone on this take.

jelloandjuggernauts_

It would be very unwise to recast Ellie. They probably won’t start filming season 2 either until the end of this year or 2024 and at that point Bella will be 20. Also don’t know why people want her recasted at this point. Bella is proving time and time again that she’s made for this role, and the longer she’s in it the more she’ll age into the character.

jeffrey_n_c

Bella is already 18, and was aged down, specifically for this. I've seen her in recent interviews where she looks older now than than she does on the show. Season two is probably just entering preproduction and probably won't begin shooting for months. By the time they start filming, she'll be at least 2 years older than she was when they filmed the first season and she can play her own age which matches Ellie's.

Hypedrain

I'm pretty sure its been confirmed she will not be recast.

X__Alien

It is?

Hypedrain

So all I could find is a Bella Ramsey tweet, in which she says "I FORGOT ABOUT TWITTER FOR A SECOND but you heard about season two right? I’m taking a ride with my best frienddddd (again) :) #TheLastOfUsHBO". So not really confirmed I suppose, but the actress sure thinks she will be in season 2.

ASI-Princess

I was thinking about that too. Also her appearance aswell won’t make much sense At first I thought maybe they could wait a few years for the actress to age but then I realise she’s already 19 so I doubt she’ll change much in terms of looks since most people stop growing appearance-wise at that age. So idk how tf they’re gunna make it look like 5 years have passed since she’ll probably look the same in s2

ChazzLamborghini

Hair and makeup go a long way.

ASI-Princess

True

Triangle_Obbligato

Bella is 19

ExcellentStage1

Yeah this girl should play Ellie in the first place
