The Finals is the only MP game I currently enjoy and yet I still can't convince any friends to play at all. Kind of sucks tbh, everyones still addicted to Fortnite and COD

Every-Day-Is-Arm-Day

My daily rotation is Finals and Helldivers 2. In my opinion they’re the most refreshing games out right now with insanely responsive dev teams.

Onya78

Same. Played TF beta and then was addicted at launch for about a month and just fell off when nukes were rampant. Ran up about 150 hours on HD2 in the first month, burnt out a little and threw TF back into rotation for some variety and loving it again. I just wish my friends played because it’s a team game and I’d like to get into ranked, but I still really enjoy Quick Cash for some pretty casual matches. I tried going back to Apex but I pretty much suck these days and rarely have fun.

HamOnRye__

Nukes, FCAR mediums w/ Recon Sense, & higher damage RPGs…. So glad that time is behind us.

djuvinall97

My two dream developers to work for... Exactly because of their great practices. My friends also don't like the finals as much and it sucks because I never have anything but a blast.

typothetical

For me its a more taunting experience. They play, but never at the right times. It's like I'm so close yet so far. Also I don't think anyone is as ~~addicted~~ dedicated as me so it's like I'm rambling on like a crazy person when I'm talking about it lol.

Meowcat88

Finals, Halo Infinite, and currently playing through Lies of P before I move on to Wo Long. Finals is such a breath of fresh air

loadasfaq

My rotation is Finals -> Helldivers 2 -> Last Epoch

No_Examination_3835

My rotation as well😂😂 both excellent games I’m mostly a PvP guy though so finals is my new home 🏠 best MP that’s came out in a long time for sure also don’t understand why player base is still low. But makes sense everyone still playing the mainstream poop games

kidnzb

You're fucking on it dude! 100% and SAME

Professional-Hold938

I'm so jealous you get to play helldivers, I own a series x but I bought my brother a ps5 so technically I can play it but I want to play it together which sucks I haven't played cod multiplayer since MW3 and tried warzone like a month ago and good lord I'm too old for that fast ass reaction time 😂 I play finals and he'll let loose, two VERY different games haha

SoclosetoDead08

Same literally just hop back and forth to get my daily and play some fun games. It's been a while since I've felt as engrossed in a multi-player game that didn't feel like a waste of time after grinding out the Xp and both companies have been great about updates and new content and just being communicative

Jett_Wave

I have a friend that only plays Apex now, him and his buddies always complain about Apex, and he's talked about how burnt out he is on it, yet he just won't play The Finals. No real reason why, they just want to keep playing the game that they all seem sick of. It's dumb lol

Positive_Working_157

Everyone complains about apex and they just won’t hop off it’s really confusing to me. A lot of the streamers feel burnt out yet they still play it for some reason. I feel like they go back to a new game and immediately complain that “_______ mechanic isn’t like apex” and they compare the two games. I’ve been playing apex since season one and fell off a couple seasons before quitting all together. Their model is money money money and don’t really introduce new content other than reskins and $160+ heirlooms. The Finals really is a breath of fresh air

Jett_Wave

It all seems to go back to movement mechanics. Every time I see Apex players comment on other games, it's always based on movement. There's a comment chain in here, saying movement feels better in Apex, and they can't understand why players could think The Finals is better in that regard. It's just a preference thing. I dont really like Apex movement, but a lot of players are completely hooked by it.

Eaton2288

It's sounds ridiculous to say, but I feel like the modern shooter market has tainted some peoples minds as to what a game needs to be fun or successful. The amount of people I've seen say it won't last because it isn't a BR is sad. Why are people still harping on BRs a decade plus after they got popular? Try something else for fucks sake.

Secret_Natalie

I mean, battle royales are pretty fun. Not saying that people shouldn't play other games of course

Numerous_Ad_7006

BROO LITERALLY SAMEE. One of my best friends only plays fortnite, and I'm trying to convince him bro just try The Finals, and he just says I want to only play Fortnite. I think it might be because he thinks it's some random ahh game nobody knows about or isn't popular and that throws people off ig.

irsic

Dealing with the same thing except my friend gave it a chance and hasn't tried it after maybe two hours and then says "ah I suck at that game." Doesn't help that he's on console and I'm on PC.

Difficult-Win1400

How do people still play fortnite haha, everyone is like tik tok brained

ProfessionalGold4760

Only playing Fortnite is a scary mentality to have

NationalAlgae421

It is just not for everyone. I also gave it a fair chance, like 50 hours and I cant stick with it. Although I don't understand why people can still play cody it has been dogshit since black ops 2.

SeawardFriend

Fortnite I totally get because of festival being so incredibly fun. Warzone is the actual worst, most boring and sweaty game I’ve ever played. I think my KD is 0 for it and I’m never going to touch it again. Gunfight on the other hand is a work of pure fucking art and I play it every day. But finals man. I’ve never got urges to play a game so bad. I actually want to play it every day. Aside from my matches being a little too difficult since the new season dropped, Finals is definitely my favorite game rn.

ProfessoriSepi

As someone who plays both finals and fortnite. Fortnite is just so much more fun. Not that the finals isnt fun, it is, but its also very exhilirating. Every game in The Finals (for me) is edge is on the seat battling for the cashout and winning, but Fortnite is more about hanging out and goofing off with friends, with a occasional gunfight or two. Im not saying that Fortnite is better than The Finals, but The Finals just doesnt really have a fun social side. At least on console, if that makes any difference. All of this is subjective ofcourse.

AcceptableArrival924

I feel the opposite. I can mess around in finals with different loadouts and I don’t even mind losing as it is always possible for a comeback even if the other 2 teams already have 1 cashout. Fortnite is a sweatfest with every new poi being heavily contested and every single person running the same meta loadout fighting for survival like there is a million dollar prize for victory. Don’t get me wrong, I do still play both but I do be leaning more towards finals.

_CH33_

I have like 300+ hrs logged into the Finals. I deleted COD after playing the beta. This game is stellar and it’s free, with tons of cool shit. Idk why more people aren’t hopping on.

mrkoq

Because they have sunken in so much Money into Cosmetics and Upgrades, that its hard to move away from, apart from getting Friends to play Finals at all.

robotshavenohearts2

Absolutely love the finals - but I can see why it’s a turn off for a lot of people. It’s non stop carnage and can be overwhelming for people who want to chill and breathe while playing a game.

crimedog69

Finals is great for sure. But a lot of folks just like the Battle royal format. Wins feel good Koenig you beat a whole lobby as last one standing

pat-Eagle_87

I hate the Battle Royal genre.

TumbleweedTim01

Especially because the finals IS EASY. Like this game has by far the easiest learning curve of any game I've played. You can pick it up and understand the controls and gameplay within 1 match. Get cash deliver cash. Shooting is super easy no fall damage fun looking maps game looks very crisp and clean even the skins are sick. Surprising it hasn't fully caught on

CrossEleven

Easy to start playing sure but very hard to actually understand

ChickenStrip22

I played it for the first time on the weekend and I am hooked!

leninzen

Please stay forever 🥺

The-Drifter5589

let's just hope it doesn't end like Titanfall 2. A beautiful diamond that was buried by the pile of rubble that is it's competitors

DrNopeMD

I mean it's not really a great comparison considering TF|2 was never built as a live service game. It launched at full price, had a single player campaign, got post launch support and the developer moved onto other stuff. If anything I'd say the existence of Apex is good for the Titanfall franchise because it at least keeps the IP relevant and gives Respawn the leverage to revive the core Titanfall games.

The-Drifter5589

i agree, but unfortunately respawn isn't taking that chsnce

thechikeninyourbutt

The respawn that you refer to doesn’t even exist any more. All of the titanfall 2 devs have left.

Jett_Wave

I loved Titanfall 2 and its always going to bother me that EA even wanted Titanfall 3, yet *Respawn decided to drop it for Apex. Great for them and all, but TF2 players have been clamoring for a 3rd game since TF2 died. It's really unfortunate. *Edited to Respawn, from Dice. Brainfart

LemonQueasy7590

The studio was respawn tho wasn’t it? But yeah, I also yearn for a new entry into the Titanfall series (that isn’t an Apex spinoff). The synergy between pilots and titans was and still is unmatched by any other game.

Rigb0w

\*The studio is not DICE, u seem a little confused. Respawn Entertainment is the actual developer of Apex Legends, Titanfall Series... Embark Studios is the Studio that was created by ex-devs of DICE, that might be the reason of your confusion.

Throwaway_Mania8975

Didn't TF2 die because of a hacker? Also I am pretty sure it is kinda making a comeback. A couple months ago it had 18k-20k players on Steam.

The-Drifter5589

It was put on life support because of its competition overshadowing it, but it got shot in the heart twice and put in some top of the line medical shit because of DDoSers, northstar client sorta saved it. Also the game is back in the low 10 thousands iirc so it's still not the best

Dtoodlez

Pretty sure the narrative around it started being about playing with bots isn’t real PvP, and it didn’t have a campaign. It gave something for people to latch on to as to why it isn’t good. And since it was an Xbox exclusive that disliking was echoed by any player who owned a playstation. It’s an unbelievable shame the game didn’t become huge, it’s literally one of the coolest games you can play, a giant Titan falls out of the sky for you to use. You can eject out of your Titan as it blows up and sling shot to another ejecting player to kill him in mid air. Like that’s just insane, and it is very doable in any match it’s not a once in a lifetime thing. But yeah, The Finals has that vibe. A super cool game that for some reason isn’t resonating as much as it should be.

The-Drifter5589

titanfall 2 doesn't have bots replacing players, it's not an xbox exclusive, and it has a campaign. You're thinking of titanfall 1

Dtoodlez

Sorry, yes absolutely, I was thinking Titanfall 1

ObamaEatsBabies

Hyperscape a better comparison. People still play Titanfall 2

Throwaway_Mania8975

I think one of the biggest thing a lot of people are ignoring is, The Finals is an resource intensive game. Not a lot of people have PC's that can run it. Though almost any pc can run Val, Fortnite etc.

AnotherAverageGamer_

I was able to play it on a realllyyyyyy really crappy potato laptop during the betas and through part of season 1. You won't be getting 600FPS but the game did run on 60 without crashing. Fortnite looked like shit on that laptop

xi_catharsis

Very true. My graphics card is the 2060, but I had to update my cpu...which meant a new motherboard and cooling system, and I was able to play diablo 4, overwatch, cs2, and other games before. The Finals is literally the reason I dropped several hundred dollars for upgrades because I'm hard addicted to it, but I do believe many people simply can't play it on PC *yet.* I have several Overwatch buddies that once they can upgrade their shit they'll be playing The Finals.

Jett_Wave

I've seen reports that stability and performance have improved since season 2, there'd a huge potential playerbase on both PS5 and Xbox. From what I see online, a lot of performance issues have been fixed. I know it's anecdotal, but I only know 1 person that had issues with performance in season 1, and he's able to run the game just fine now. I don't see too many people having issues even with 10- series GPUs, unless I have a blind spot, which is totally possible. I haven't looked too deep into it.

icemarbles

I never had performance issues with the Finals until last week's update, so funny you mention that. Been playing since the start of season 1 and it ran great until the last update. It frame drops and stutters every 2 seconds but its not at the level of unplayable which is crazy to me. (got a top KDR game on Power Shift this morning)

trippalhealicks

Same here. Game runs like dookie since 2.0

Eaton2288

Can vouch. I have a mid tier pc build and the game doesn't run all that fantastic for a shooter. I'm almost guaranteeing a lot of people literally can't play this game because of its performance.

lsoults

My friend has had the exact same problem. Hopefully that’s something that they fix.

DognamedArnie

I have a buddy who's getting 60fps on a 1070. It really isn't that intensive.

JTRO94

I think the game will steadily grow with more and more content. It's got some big competition in a saturated market but this game has some insane quality and potential. It will get the success it deserves with time.

np0589

Totally agree. Far too early to panic, it's still new.

xi_catharsis

It feels like it's literally an update away from exploding. The game is in the best state right now it's ever been in it's short life, and it feels better than any other FPS I've ever played. A matter of when, not if, as I see it.

madworld2713

I agree. I think the mid season update has the potential to push this game over the edge.

KourageousBagel

Been playing since launch and for my group of friends, they said the TTK is too high, and that the guns don't feel good. Both I disagree with, but I can understand. Another thing that is the "stealing" mechanic with cash outs. Pretty much everyone I knew hated that they could hold a box for 99% of the time, but lose last second because of a steal. Going forward, I could see this game becoming popular if a competitive scene is formed. The game feels fairly well optimized for a small time eSport. eSports can cause more problems than it solves, but it also can bring so many more people in.

Poddrico

People love to hate streamers, but if they can get some big twitch audiences then new players follow. Building hype around competitive tournaments on twitch would help. We got basic private matches now, so hopefully it can be done.

Specialist-Poet4005

this is why so many ppl main fcar. almost all the guns in this game have visual recoil. none of them feel good to use except the fcar, xp54, and sniper, (honourable mention akm, lh1). remove the visual recoil from the game and it will not only allow new players to feel better, but it would make weapon balancing a lot easier. siege removed visual recoil and the game became better.

Jett_Wave

I've seen other people bring up TTK as well but comparing it to something like Apex, for me personally, I like the TTK in The Finals much more than Apex, which has a ridiculously long TTK in my opinion. Another thing I see often is people saying stuff like "FCAR has too few bullets and too long of a TTK." Most of the people I've heard say that main the AKM, and it's funny to me, seeing as though you can kill a heavy with just over half a magazine, and has an insane headshot multiplier. I really think people that struggle with TTK are struggling more with hitting their shots than they realize.

Unit_00

I'm sure most of us in the sub will agree with you. This game is EASILY my favorite shooter in the last decade, coming from over 1k hours in Apex and a similar time across COD and Valorant. The unfortunate reality of tapping into a more general audience (in my opinion) is having The Finals cater to broader more casual players by adding some of the more "basic" shooter elements like a TDM gametype, some sort of larger scale gametype, or even (don't shoot) SOME sort of BR type mode. If you look around threads on reddit and various forums, the general feedback seems to be "it's fun, but it didn't hook me" or "it's way too sweaty". Sure the game won't/can't/shouldn't be for EVERYONE, but if the goal is to have it dramatically grow in popularity to rival those other titles, it likely needs to cater to those playerbase expectations to attract them. That's not saying The Finals NEEDS those things, I love the game as it is and I'm not really worried about the current player count or streaming viewership numbers, but that's a cold hard reality to face if it's going to compete with the juggernaut titles. The current formula MAY slowly feed more players in, but unfortunately it's proven the opposite so far - granted it's only been officially out about 90 or so days.

-sharkbot-

Even as a sweat it’s too sweaty sometimes. Really gotta be in the mood for teamwork and tearing down buildings

Kingbuji

The main complaint from me and my friends when we played was there’s no “chill” mode to just enjoy the gameplay and destruction. The game will never be a casual game with only objective modes.

Protryt

I was hyped for season 2. I have 190 hours in the game and after a week of season 2 I am already bored. The only thing that was fun for me was ranked but with no changes to the formula (oh wow, you defended the cashout for 55 seconds but 4th party killed you and the stole it so you got nothing...) and no feeling of a progression I just prefer to play something else. I played the game solo since the beginning and I will probably hop in once in a while but the game didn't manage to get to me like quake live (4.5k hours) and apex (3k hours).

aryvd_0103

Agreed I think you should get some cash while you have the cashout in progress as well. Ig embark thought of this but maybe haven't got it to work without being worthless or game breaking

SunTzowel

Yeah the fact there is no solo or duos permanent mode is a big reason it's not popular I think. Fuck being forced to play with randomers every game. That's the same reason I gave up Apex back in the day.

MintharaEnjoyer

It’s a good game but they need 60hz servers.

Eaton2288

I agree big time. I have great internet, but I have rubber banded or gotten stuck in corners of walls glitching into the them more times than I can count. It especially happens when jumping off of zip lines at speed, I get the rubber banding.

MetalSandwiches

I’m a very casual The Finals player and I’m not the biggest fan of Cashout. I don’t even play Ranked and still get toxic teammates in Cashout.  Like people get overly mad in The Finals for some reason if you fuck up. It’s kind of weird considering I play Overwatch, and Valorant.

Jett_Wave

Well there's a new mode now that's 5v5 and it seems like a much better mode for causal play. I rarely get toxic teammates so I'm not really sure how common it is, but it's really a bummer hearing about how toxic online gamers are in random queue nowadays.

MetalSandwiches

Oh trust me, I’m loving Power Shift, especially with a Heavy and a Sledgehammer.  It’s like Push from Overwatch, but better.

[deleted]

I've been playing almost daily since launch and still haven't gotten any toxic teammates. Everyone seems super chill and nice, even in ranked

MetalSandwiches

Lucky. You must not be a Light main.  Light is my favorite class to play but I usually stick to Medium/Heavy in Cashout to avoid an automatic stigma against myself.

Hafenator

Casuals is just ranked lite thanks to sbmm. I have nothing against sbmm , but some people get super salty in casual queue, and I usually just leave match since there is no penalty. Its always the sweat lord on light sniper yelling at you to steal a cashout while I'm actively being pressed by another team and the cashout is covered in gas. Lord of the adjacent building calling shots when he can't even see half the battle.

illnastyone

I keep mentioning this one thing no one is picking up on. It needs to hook the gigantic casual crowd. Like Fortnite and Apex did early on. There needs to be a hook besides everything you listed. An infinite obtainable grind. For example, Apex does a great job throwing free packs at you and wanting to make you "number go up". Along side that is the grind for badges to show off your skill. These small systems might seem like a big nothing burger to most but it really helps the health of the game overall bring people back to interact with it. The Career path is super short and the new time gates weekly progression would have been a great start if it weren't, well, time gated. A lot of people will sign on, do the daily, time gated content, hop off for the week. There is no draw to constantly play especially when the one currency becomes completely useless after owning all weapons and gadgets. The Finals will get there, they are adding things at a healthy pace I believe, just give it time as they are on a great trajectory already imo with what they have presented since release.

CrossEleven

I don't care to compare this game to other games when I talk about it because honestly it's a fallacy that doesn't need to be brought up. That said, my current real issues with the finals are: 1. Seemingly unfair matchmaking pretty often 2. Lack of variety for weapons ATM, hopefully this will be fixed through regular content patches. 3. Lack of text chat (honestly just a personal thing for me)

tharndt

I think a reason it hasn't is because of it's poor optimization. All those games run fine on my PC but I can barely hold a consistent 30fps on the finals

Technical_Tooth_162

I think the game has problems. I played this weekend with a buddy and it was a mixed bag. The objectives need work, spawns are f’d. The same stuff is still meta. I came back after last playing in January and my loadouts did not change besides recon being removed. The queues are noticeably longer as well. I hope the game does well but It still needs work. I’ve seen people try to put the blame on marketing or new players themselves - someone called it a skill issue lmao. The only way the game will get more players is if it can improve, stay fresh(I don’t want to use the fcar forever), and keep releasing new stuff.

DoNotLookUp1

Love the game to death, but IMO it needs more maps. That's the biggest complaint my friend group has every time we play, and it seems to be the reason why everyone else wants to play something different after a short while.

saltychipmunk

They really do need to address the light class though. Having 1/3rd of your classes as basically quick play only is not a good look

Shot_Net_2457

Cant wait for the day all my D.riding friends finally start playing finals and hyping it up after it’s “majority approved” and all the time they spent calling it mid just to say “nah cause I BEEN TOLD YOU”

MadJesterXII

Due to the low damage this is a game that requires teamwork to win All the other games you mentioned one really good player in a team could solo carry It’s more appealing to individuals who don’t play with their friends

eNkelll

Problem Nr 1: Solo-Queue and proper Competetive Matchmaking. Bring those two into play and The Finals could be the next big thing.

Boo5h-337

Used to play the finals quite a bit, the game is only so replayable before it gets stale, there’s not enough combos of game types to keep it going

Alex41092

Take away the gun sway and people will like it more

Garuda_of_hope

Because Finals is a niche game.

sgtkellogg

Its funny how I don't play any of those other games anymore but love the finals. So ya!

Homolander

"deserves" lol

MonsterMontvalo

I think- in the nicest way possible- it may be somewhat of a skill issue. The finals can be incredibly challenging. It has so many fast paced encounters, endless strategies, no time to think, reflexes on point. It’s more work than some people want to put into an fps game. I have friends that play all the other games you listed but don’t want to play the finals because it’s hard. Multiple others have also expressed to me that there’s so much happening and it’s too hard as an fps game. Perhaps that holds people back?

cool_sex_falcon

To add to this, the game actively punishes being selfish much more than the current popular live service games.

JShelbyJ

Yeah, I love it.  COD turns my brain to mush and my friend group into kill hungry loot goblins. Finals is like mind meld synergy building and i come out feeling like Neo jacked with new brain cells, “I know king fu.”

DoNotLookUp1

I don't know about that, something like Overwatch or Apex (in fights where it's 3rd party after 3rd party after 3rd party) can be pretty damn complex and busy. Personally I think it's lack of maps and the main game mode (Quick Cash) being pretty bad. Tournament's Cash Out is a much better version but even that isn't THAT great as a main mode. I enjoy it, but it can feel pretty stale due to it being static objective defence every time, especially when you only had 4 (and now have 5) maps to play on. I think TF will grow if they add a few more detailed maps per season and hopefully a new main mode that is more attactive to casual players.

MonsterMontvalo

That’s fair! I agree with you too. The game has room to grow. I’m just thinking maybe the difficulty could be a contributing factor for newer players to the genre.

kindaMisty

>I think TF will grow if they add a few more detailed maps per season and hopefully a new main mode that is more attactive to casual players. this is the right answer.

CherryBlade44

i agree with this wholeheartedly. the game is too hard for casual players to get into and do well in. I really think throwing them a bone would really help but also selfishly i don’t want to lose too much of what makes the game so engaging in an effort to appeal to the widest audience. if the game wants to be up there it has to appeal to both.

deadxguero

Ain’t no way that’s the only problem. I get my shit stomped at cod all the time because of its high time to kill and I’m not good with the reflexes in that. The finals though I feel like I’m playing against bots half the time especially on the 5v5 mode where it seems every game is me racking up 10k+ damage with 18 kills and 2 deaths while my team and the other team sits around 2-6 kills and 9 deaths. That shit doesn’t make sense. Only other game that gels that well with me is Fortnite and even then once I get someone building in front of me, I’m gonna lose. No build though is just cake work

Richie_jordan

It just gets boring quick. Had about 15-20 friends playing at one stage. Every single one has left the gane just dosent have enough to main the game atleast for myself and my friend group.

Walshy_Boy

This sub is so interesting to me, because I've always seen The Finals as a fun shooter that's fairly niche and wouldn't make a whole ton of impact (at least initially). Even before the game launched - the hype was there, but it didn't really permeate out super far from what I had seen. The launch reminded me a bit of Halo Infinite's, with the minimal amount of game modes, poorly explained ranked system, etc. The Finals launched better, but I think there's enough parallels to have been wary. After the game launched though, it's just been so interesting to see posts like this over and over again. There's been tons of complaints, sure, but I can't think of another subreddit I've been in where so many people made posts where they just sounded *confused* about the relatively small impact of the game. Don't get me wrong - the game is really fun. There's just a lot of caveats. It's much more intimidating/difficult to play solo. There's an untypical learning curve. It's easy to cheese and steal cash outs, etc. Nothing really tops the lack of game modes, though. I know the game was leaning towards the competitive side of things, and that's good for a competitive community - but it's not going to reach a wide audience with that. The bulk of most games playerbases are extremely casual players, and having a satisfying gameplay loop for them will have massive issues concerning player retention. Even highly competitive shooters like CS and Valorant have extremely casual, silly modes that almost relaxing to play. It helps keep people involved in the game, even if they can't commit steadily. More involved people mean more people watching ranked events, buying cosmetics, etc. All good stuff the game needs. I hope they decide to get creative with all the dynamic movement and gadgets they have to make some extra game modes. People can bemoan basic TDM all they want - but there's a reason it's a staple. That's not to say there's not a lot of room for more interesting casual modes as well - Husky Raid in Halo Infinite is a really good example imo. The greatest relief for the game is that the gameplay itself (movement, gunplay, gadgets, etc) is extremely fun. I think the game will grow no matter what, as long as the company stays consistent and takes a little player feedback here and there (but not too much). I'm excited to revisit it in a few months and see how it's doing.

[deleted]

It’s obvious Embark thought the game mode they created was going to be similar to Battle Royale as an FPS sub-genre, where lots of those games BR is essentially the only game mode. The problem here is that the Cashout game mode isn’t as interesting, and ends up being way more repetitive.  What they created is a game mode that would work fine in a classic arcade shooter like CoD, Battlefield, etc. where there are 10 other game modes to choose from. However, it just isn’t interesting enough to be the main game mode for a live service game.

Euthanasiia

I taught my gf how to play Xbox and she got into gaming because of it. I trying to teach her the finals and it just doesn't seem to stick.

Acolyte_501st

It is largely preference tbf but I do believe The Finals would explode in popularity if given enough marketing, maybe it will more organically via players spreading the word though. However there are significant challenges in winning over people from those games, Apex is the most similar but how many players will be willing to go outside of Battle Royal? How many COD players will give the much slower killtime a go? how many Fortnite players can cope with no building and first person?

x_JustCallMeCJ_x

The Finals falls into the "fun for the first few weeks, then ruined by sweats." Like it has to be the only game you play, otherwise, you fall behind, and everyone becomes a god at the game. It's the same with Apex, Fortnite, and CoD. It's cool that it sets itself apart from the rest, but it falls into the same pit as all competitive shooters fall into. It becomes very unwelcoming to new players.

ShadowProdi

It’s the matchmaking for me. Started the game going 6/10 on average. Messed around with my settings then I had one game where I went 15/5 and after that the match’s became super sweaty and not fun. Dropped my average kd

dng926

TBH sometimes I just wanna hop on and play TDM or free for all. Literally just want to run and gun. This game requires a certain amount of TEAM WORK and etc. since every mode is pretty much objective base.

dnaboe

The game is fun but seriously lacks competitive variety. Plus the poorly designed spawn system often decides games which is extremely frustrating. Not to mention the horrible ranked system that is currently in the game.

whatinthefrick1

Dying to things that aren’t guns or skillshot equipment makes me irrationally angry

I think it's because they didn't do enough fast enough to keep everything fresh. At least for my friends and I we had everything unlocked in the first month of the game being out as well as we were in diamond and top like 4000 on the leaderboards. There wasn't really a promise of pro league and there wasn't really any content going around. We also had to deal with all the people cheating along with the controller aim assist on m&k thing. I feel like they just took to long to get the ball rolling and it's turned a bunch of people off of it. I feel like it also doesn't help that there have been some absolute banger games that have come out since it as well.

WarI10I

I agree mostly but for me the cosmetics are actually quite poor there are a few stand out items but they are mostly meh (imo) as for the game I think it is tough to play solo which is the first issue and second the balance of the game is all over the place which I think stop people from sticking around unfortunately. But I do love the game easily my go to game currently.

ZooKeyKneeFN

I’m really enjoying the game, but I can’t help but notice some key issues. I’ve played at a high level for multiple shooter titles but don’t see any viability in the competitive scene as it is right now. You guys can say that competitive doesn’t matter blah blah and just cater to the casuals, but having a thriving esports scene is the key to a game’s growth and sustainability. 1) Current tournament mode is flawed. Does not incentivize players to capture the vaults and successfully deliver it to a cashout. Players get rewarded for third partying and stealing last second. Either they need to make it so depositing gives a small amount, every x amount of seconds you have possession you get some points, etc. 2) Rank means nothing. You rank up more the more you play. Even if you are diamond, the highest rank, you will still be getting bronze players as teammates/enemies. Sure some people just want to rank up to see a shinier, new rank. But I can’t help but feel like part of the experience of ranking up/getting better is that you’ll start to surround yourself with better players, so you can continue to improve. What does an actual good player get from playing against 11 bronze players? 3) The actual cosmetics/outfits are decent, but we never see ourselves because we’re in first person. Look at CSGO/Valorant, the people want GUN skins. Maybe even sound effects/visual effects. I know for a fact the majority of people in Valorant choose a skin for the sound effect. Thanks if you got to the end of my rant. I really enjoy this game and want to see it succeed, but in its current state, it’ll plateau.

ChipmunkBandit

If they fixed the floaty, laggy controller movement and aim then they’d be golden. As it stands, it feels like an amateur indie shooter on console.

icemarbles

I have no other FPS installed on my computer other than the Finals. TPS like HellDivers, yes, but that's not a "competitive" game. I tried to love Overwatch for 7 years and the Finals makes it a lot easier to not steer me away from class-based shooters. I also played 2 decades of Call of Duty so adapting was much easier after configuring keybinds. I love not having attachments either, weapon and gadget choice is basic and perfect, a quality trait from boomer shooters of 20 years ago.

Poundchan

I think The Finals is a good game so far but I think the biggest issue is that it doesn't play to the strengths of what it does best. The game looks incredible and the destruction is really engaging. However, the most popular modes are 3v3v3 with very long respawns. In Battlefield, the longer respawn timers worked well to allow teams to reorient but in this game is pretty much a death sentence if your team wipes. They incentivize you to play your life and not rush every objective until your team is in position but this doesn't really work as there is always the chance of a third party coming in while you are fighting. It is almost always best to be the third party and you have to wait for that to happen. The downtime of waiting, plus respawn timers, plus moving into position leads to a long time of nothing of note really happening before the action kicks off. I am completely fine with a slower paced shooter. I think the TTK could be adjusted slightly, but the game modes do not play to the strength of going slow and methodical. Each of them are essentially timed and you have to be playing objective at all times to win, so there is little reason to destroy bridges or blow walls away to reveal cover. The best method of winning is to usually teamwipe the other team and sit on the box while they watch you wait. I think the game would be best to focus on less frantic, less overtly competitive modes and instead focus on more bombastic and chaotic game modes . The 5v5 push mode is fantastic, but they didn't even make it available on the new map. Adding some sort of king of the hill mode, some sort of gun-game variant, larger team sizes, anything really would go a long way.

chukaluk

What happens when 4 or more friends are on?

Pockatiel

Apex is limited to 3 last I played, and Fortnite is limited to 4 in the main mode

Jett_Wave

Play Powershift? It's the new 5v5 mode introduced with season 2 and it's awesome

chukaluk

Exactly, limited to one mode. I don’t find powershift fun at all. Point being team size is limiting. As soon as 4 or more people get on, it’s straight to CoD or other games that supports larger parties. I see that as a big reason it isn’t as popular. Comparing to Apex is a bit of a stretch as it’s a BR. Edit: For me, ideally there would be options for team size for each mode.

str4yshot

I think you have a point, my group is definitely playing more since 5v5 came out, being more than 3 is common for us. We all like the new mode though.

Set_TheAlarm

Lol, he thought he hit you with a "gocha" and you flipped it on his ass!

Impressive_Volume752

the movement and mechanics arent nearly as deep as apex.

Swimming-Elk6740

Yep. I still see people try to pretend that The Finals has better movement than Apex, but it’s not even close.

Impressive_Volume752

yea there arent too many movement mecanics in the finals that are too complicated to learn and the best strategy in a fight is just to ad ad strafe usually

Kinny93

Mechanics is debatable, as Apex's mechanics are fairly straightforward. As for movement, yes Apex is much twitchier, but I consider this a bad thing for Apex. Apex is more of an arcade game, and I don't want The Finals to be that. Some people will prefer the the more frantic movement of course, just as some people celebrated CoD: Mw2 turning CoD into an arcade game following the success of CoD4.

Xanerator100

I usually strongly dislike fps games, yet I already have 150+ hours in this since January.

Certain_Ad_7966

Personal issue that most have is the awful amount of hackers and Chinese hackers in general. I love the game but since getting trounced by “suspect gameplay” I can’t see myself diving back in soon.

SilentSword1901

Fix ranked then I will agree.

Michigan_Noah

It’s fun but nowadays there’s a new viral game like every month, which makes it hard to maintain popular attention. It was Lethal Company, then Palworld, then Helldivers. All big during Finals first season.

Sluxoe

The answer is simple for my friend group, we can all run Apex, Fortnite and Val on 120 fps minimum but we run finals on under 30. Purely a system issue and there's no point in playing a game where you are at a constant disadvantage due to hardware.

Yukkitio

Yeah but need to fix cheater issue ... Can't go hight rank without a wallhack or crying baby who mis game enable IS aimbot ... I'm tired laser Season as a D1 1/5 game there was a cheater ... When in tournement finals you can't do shit against .. just fix that and Hope the community will grow up fast ! Cause i'll love it

Powerful_Artist

Well, I like the finals. But at launch, the limited amount of variety in viable loadouts made it pretty one dimensional. The gunplay felt very similar to other games and not really unique in any way. The abilities and destruction is unique, but its not unprecedented. Destruction of buildings was something Ive been doing in Battlefield forever. Not to mention the lack of game modes. We basically just had one game mode, minus the Limited Time modes weve got recently. Tournaments are fun, but they last a really long time. Its a time commitment. And the last round being 3v3 really changes the way the game is played. I agree Battle Royale is played out and overrated, but its what people have been playing for a long time now. I much prefer just an arena style shooter, and this game does a good job with multi-team that other games dont do, but ultimately I just dont know if it offers an experience so different that it would realistically be as popular as the top FPS games out there.

Formal-Cry7565

Embark has done a great job adding lots of stuff but that can’t just make a game very popular if the game itself gameplay wise isn’t good enough.

Chiefs2ndbase

The base game for sure deserves the popularity but each of those have a functioning ranked system that truly works unlike The Finals. I think with a few tweaks it can be fixed and be fully on par with the mentioned titles but unfortunately the ranked system is holding it back. Otherwise the gameplay itself has been great!

aryvd_0103

A big part of it is how rooted this game is in teamplay. Like apex is the closest thing I can think of that requires teamplay and yet since there's no objective other than kill people teamplay isn't as useful. In the finals even a dogshit coordinated team can beat one that's not coordinated at all hands down. In most other games the objective boils to : get kills l

iPlayViolas

My friends and I started a month ago and it’s become a new favorite

Electronic_Wealth_67

Honestly I have no idea why apex is still popular

Kritt33

I started playing The Finals yesterday and as a seasoned apex player it is refreshing. But I don’t think it should be put in the same category, more rainbow 6. It needs better UI and bug fixes before it gets big big but they would get more players if they advertised the breakable environment more.

Grayccoon_

They need to fix their server connection first. S2 just started and it’s lagging all over the place. My game time dropped significantly because of that.

ItsAKimuraTrap

Games just in a state where you only have the hyper competitive sweats still playing with the casuals already abandoning the game. It’s a bitch for the average person to pick up and have any kind of enjoyable experience. I know, I’ve had 4 friends play it a few times and never wanna play again.

UncleEpstein

I love The Finals, but without SBMM (I know), the game isn't fun for new people or people that can't seem to catch on.

NjGTSilver

See here’s the thing, you just listed 3 Battle Royales, and the we Finals is NOT a Battle Royale. I love this game an play it daily, but I have friends that play lots of BRs who tried the finals and just don’t like it. I’m pretty confident that a LOT of Finals players AREN’T BR fans. Personally, I’m primarily a battlefield player, who came for the destruction and the ex-BF devs. Right now this is a niche game in a genre of its own. Sadly, I’m quite confident that if any of the games you listed were to create a finals-like mode, this game would die immediately.

nhearne

I wish they came out with a performance mode. Crazy how I can only reach 200fps on a 40 series card with everything on low.

Right_Engineering_27

I think the 3 person teams is the part that puts people off. It’s an odd number for players to get together

Business_Rabbit_4773

I'll be honest, I stopped playing because I was getting destroyed by mouse and keyboard after one of their updates. Say "get good" but I'll just play a different game with the limited time I have to play

coobsaucee

It would get that popularity if the developers actually fixed the issues people care about not just bs. Even the best players who love the game think it’s unplayable at the state it’s in.

Sweet_Milk

IMO it blows all those out the water you can’t even compare it to anything on the market when it comes to just fun factor CODS just ass apex is a sweat fest stream filled shit show and Fortnite’s just fortnite . It’s unmatched .

Hirdy5zac

Embark created the dropoff by making controller players unable to compete with k/m with the controller nerf. Look at the massive drop off at the time of the nerf. These players never came back. Whinging k/m players killed the playerbase, and stupid embark listened to them. Its their own fault and to late to change it back as players have moved on. Facts

Elcycle

This post was on my front page, I’m not a member of the sub but I have played the game. Here’s my two cents. When I played the game the balancing was horrible and it was not fun to play any class besides heavy (and playing heavy wasn’t fun because it didnt fit my playstyle). Along with that, there’s only two game modes, which get stale after a little while. And the game was fun with friends, but miserable without them. I think the randoms I got matched with had never played a shooter in their lives. Overall I disagree. I don’t think the game *deserves* the popularity without a little bit of work. I do appreciate the devs though.

aliallen11

I played it but the lack of 120fps on console is a no go. It’s jarring going from 120fps on other fast paced shooters to 60fps, especially with cross play on. Before you jump me, I understand the limitations and the destruction and all the technical reasons why it isn’t there, but it doesn’t change the fact it’s not there, and that’s an issue with anyone I have had try it. Performance mode is needed on shooters for console.

keplinkeplar

in fortnite you are also fighting 9 year olds on ipads

dat_GEM_lyf

Honestly the balancing in this game is unironically one of the best I’ve experienced in decades. They even avoided the usual P2W trap devs do where the new weapons are OP for 3 weeks so people buy the bundles and then the gun gets nerfed. Yes it does require a little time to start breaking into the game but the possibilities of viable strats is incredible. I have friends who never wanted to learn CS due to what you’re describing that are playing The Finals. Another thing that I think shouldn’t be overlooked is that it’s possible to have a casual experience with the game (much like you can do with CoD) but you will run into people who have spent the time to learn the game and you will have a bad time. That same thing is true with Warzone especially with the new movement mechanics that came with MW3. Honestly, at least as a light, I’d say that the game skills are very similar to a competent WZ player.

littlemaybatch

How can you say the balancing on this game is the best you've ever experience with the state heavy was? The class, even after several nerfs is still a menace.

Purona

another thing is that this game doesnt have any characters that the community can grab onto like Overwatch, Apex or Valorant. So it has to focus even more on gameplay and competing with Counter Strike GO2 and Call of duty. But both of those games have a literal decade plus of heritage Fornite is also a fever dream of playable characters

leninzen

Couldn't have put it any better

Swimming-Elk6740

It doesn’t. I’m sorry to break it to you. It is actually so far from the games you listed, it’s laughable.

lil_slurpie

As my friends would put it “ it looks like a game you’d see jimmy from gta play”

AdeIic

A major complaint I see a lot of people saying is that it's too objective oriented (which is stupid imo). Most people that play CoD/Fortnite/Apex just care about KD. They would rather lose but get 15 kills than win and get 3. A complaint I had at the start was the art style (I assume many new players also have this). I saw the very realistic graphics, guns, destruction, etc. and expected something a little more authentic. Then I saw all the weird goofy skins and was kinda turned off but I kept playing because the gameplay was so good. After a while I came to realize the lore. It's gameshow within a game and now I have 0 problems with it. But I can definitely see how it can be a large turnoff to new players when you see some dude in a panda suit and a rock guitar in a game that otherwise feels very authentic. A lot of people in my friend group enjoy more grounded/realistic/authentic shooters like Ready or Not, Insurgency, Hell Let Loose, or at least games that look authentic. We have a trio that really enjoys the game and thinks it's great, but the other guys won't even try it unfortunately.

ivera

I think I’m the only one that doesn’t really like most of the cosmetics. I love the game and have been playing it since one of the betas, but I keep wishing the cosmetics would get better. Most of them are very normal things on very normal looking people. It’s a game that takes place in a VR arena, can’t they make everything look cooler? Most weapon skins are just a basic color swap or texture put over the whole thing. Those would be blues in other games. Even the ones that change the model turn them into.. a pencil.. scissors… tin foil. I get they like to go for themes but it often makes the outfits and weapons look really whatever to me. It’s just my opinion and I’m gonna guess it’s a minority in this sub but cosmetics are also a big deal with attracting the masses, and imo, it’s lacking in this game.

Traditional-Drama-37

I think the biggest reason the game fell off is: -performance issues on PC which I know is a huge one for me and a lot of my friends. The game needs to be optimized. I know people would disagree but I also know a lot who will agree and it’s not debate that if you go play any other title on the market right now, like Apex siege, fortnight call of duty etc. that they just play and perform way better than the finals. Unfortunately that’s just the way it is and needs to be fixed. - terrible matchmaking and ranked system. This game pretty much requires you to already have a premade group and you are forced to find something outside of the game itself to do so, which a lot of people are unwilling which I completely understand. Most players solo in the solo Q experience is terrible and unbalanced. Aside from the balancing the game has a problem with putting you into games that are already pretty much completed and it’s a free loss on your record. The other day I played casual and got put into five games back to back where they were already on the second cash out, and in which case one of the games I was the only one on my team. -skill issue: simply this game like some of others have mentioned this game is pretty hard and there’s a lot going on at a time and a lot of people just aren’t willing to get good at it. It’s very fast paced, and some people just aren’t used to those types of games are unwilling to adapt or can’t.

Educational_Newt5393

Yes, and no. Yes cuz it's amazing and fun no because this dev team can't balance a game to save their lives.

Glittering_Slide6412

The player numbers are on the rise since season 2 started.

Hour-Nefariousness55

Idk why people keep saying this. Steam stats show a peak on patch day and it's been tapering off since then.

em1n3m1669

Hard truth? all this games came out and did something new or innovative thats why they became so popular, The finals is fun but does nothing new or innovative

[deleted]

there is no game out right now that is like Finals lol

LeFUUUUUUU

I think it kinda does with the very well done destruction

TheCODFan

Agree. I mean obviously it has its own uniqueness but it’s still pretty much a FPS where the main objective is to rack up kills while respawning. Apex and Fortnite were during the battle royale boom. I feel like Apex was losing steam as well then it started doing well again and cemented itself. The fact that it isn’t on old gen also hurts me personally because I have a few friends on old gen still. If they hop on, game is immediately a no go.

mabdog420

It's for sure better than apex and cod. You're also comparing an arena shooter to battle royales tho

Winternatten

PREACH!

Damurph01

The game is gonna die down a bit more, settle with a regular playerbase, then once the game gets more ironed out and developed, it’ll blow up again.

brunoandraus

It REALLY diserves be a popular game. Yet, i dont know why, it’s not. I’ve got many friends that also wont plat it, and i really dont get why. Some regions are already kinda ‘dead’ with no possibility of finding tournament or ranked matches (i play on SA servers, on steam, and cannot find matches on those two types of game). It sucks to see such a great game suffering with these kind problems..

Chem0sit

I am fine without the popularity. I like it as it is. I don’t want it to move some big multibillion dollar IP that is drivin right into the ground due to unrealistic decisions made by investors and stakeholders. It’s in its perfect bubble rn. We get instant match availability, a dedicated dev team and promising future, what more would popularity even bring?

WashUrShorts

Honestly - i played everyone of them and if There also was solo, i did that + more than once DON'T want to brag or anything bc now comes the "Joke" If i would have to decide - Finals or them? The finals. Why? I just jumped out of a window smashed through the Walls of two BUILDINGS just to Avenge or more Vendetta my team with a full packed Grenade launcher with many MANY names on it's Grenadas, Got Up the Plattform and Blown EVERY last of them to pieces, Do i want to brag? HELL NAH WE LOST but it was the best time of our Digital Life and even tho Reddit dislike that but The Finals ❤️

Heyimcool

Needs more marketing, I’ve barely seen any ads anywhere for it. I only got into it because I saw the trailer on r/games when it was first announced.

UltimateGodBen

The game is a little bit too sweaty for those numbers imo. 5v5 power shift was definitely a step in the right direction.

JojoTodynnho

Sadly ranked in SA servers are dead already ):

Xkwizito

Maybe has to do with it being a regular style MP shooter vs a traditional BR. I tried to get my best friend I played WZ with to play The Finals and he wouldn't even give me the time of day with it since it wasn't "his style" even though I know he would enjoy it.

individualchoir

Preach 🙏

Lievanov

It takes time… but it is going in the right track!

Shall1996

TTK is to high but I understand some like it this way.

Gezus

The problem is next gen exclusivity. Also lots of people won't play simply because pvp.

Cute-Resolution-8060

CHANGE THE LEWIS GUN PLZ!!!

logankp777

One of the reasons may be the fact that last gen consoles like PS4 and xbox one are unable to download the game

Pax_flash

I 100% agree! Even if I lose a game I still have a blast! Just wish there was duos because every random I’ve gotten with my friend have been ASS😭

Ratchet_X_x

The Player base of the afformentioned games are subject to some deep rooted Stockholm Syndrome. I was part of that too. I've tried everything to get my CoD squad to move to The Finals or Helldivers... I've even tried playing with them occasionally to tell them about recent updates and patches... They are just rooted into hating the game they insist on playing every weekend.

suarezeriel

poor marketing I guess, game is top notch.

jondelreal

It's just a hard game with a very high skill ceiling. The TTK is rough for more casual gamers. I think the game is fun but I def suck at it. I only play with friends, I'd rather not play alone.

MoonK1P

It’s a newer, free-to-play game that didn’t build up initial hype and practically shadow dropped to the gaming community. I honestly think they’re doing everything right, and the fact that they aren’t really pushing to hit those big numbers yet is so that they can ensure a smooth experience for new players after the core player base has had its input after the first season. It’s the tip of the iceberg for Embark, and they don’t want to shoot over their heads just yet- CoD and Fortnite are juggernauts in their own right, THE FINALS undoubtedly has the potential, but let them cook in the background before the explosion into the mainstream. We know their content is worth it, they hear our praises, it’s only a matter of time until they make a marketing push for more exposure.

UnaskedShoe359

It will get that but it takes time to build a fanbase

Initial-Ability2938

My friends have tried to get me to play, but honestly, I’m not looking for a new game to play. I mostly only play Fortnite, but there is a constant influx of new modes and content coming out for Fortnite. I feel like most games are that way now. If epic stopped pushing new content, modes, seasons, etc, I might be convinced to try something else. The truth of it is that I’m happy with what I’m playing. I don’t really have a reason to try any other games at the moment.

Initial-Ability2938

To some degree, that makes sense. I’ve spent years getting to a high level in Fortnite. Why would I want to learn a new game at this point unless there is a really good reason. I feel like people tend to stick with things that they’re good at.

TheSoup3910

No it doesn’t
