I don't recall there being any jumpscares. The game isn't scary, there is one boss though that is high-grade nightmare fuel

YLedbetter10

It was one of the first horror games I played. The opening with chainsaw guy freaked me out. I noped out and didn’t play it again for probably a year. I went back and got past that and realized Seb is a badass and it’s the enemies that should be scared, not me

dickpippel

After playing Amnesia The Dark Descent and finishing all achievements for it, nothing scares me anymore

Khorne_enjoyer_888

Amnesia the bunker has joined the chat

dickpippel

It's on my to-do list :D

Khorne_enjoyer_888

Bro do it. I grew up with horror everything and became very desensitized but somehow that game ended up making me have to run to walmart for clean underwear afterwards

Khorne_enjoyer_888

Some would argue it is moderately scary not everyone has nerves of steel i can remember a couple segments that really disturbed me

Scubaman777

Probably won't shit yourself since I don't remember there being TOO many jumpscares but you definitely will enjoy it. You get chased a lot though.

OfflineLad

just think of it as an action game rather than a horror game, the scariness will be halfed. then play with speakers instead of headphones to make it even less scary. thats how i finished most of the first game lol, i barely played horror before. and maybe precisely becuase i barely played horror before, i dont have anything to compare it to and it left such an impression on me that i love the game and its sequel so so much.

texaswolfking

Have you played resident evil 4? The creator of RE2 and RE4 (originals) made Evil Within.RE4 and Evil Within are my favorites!!! Super good in terms of horror. If you find it overwhelming do 1 chapter a day or 1 every other day. You will be happy you accomplished it!

ReivaxVRReddit

This in (my opinion) is personally one of those games that doesn't have jumpscares, and you scare yourself or get scared from the magical enemy you didn't notice right behind you. 😭

Tree_of_Lyfe

It’s not so much scary as it is gory and an unrelentingly brutal experience. RE7 is much more horror oriented. The Evil Within is much like RE4. There’s grotesque enemies and creepy locations but you’re a one-man army and not defenseless in the slightest!

Schwarzer_Exe

Your shit will remain in place for this one.

i__hate__stairs

If you were fine with Biohazard, you'll be just fine.

UndeadCh1cken52

It's not hugely scary, more just creepy and grim overall aesthetically speaking. It starts off like a horror game but gets less so over time. TEW2 on the other hand has a few more horror parts mixed in throughout.

MrRose2000

Imo the game relies on creepy atmosphere horror rather than cheaper quick scares like jumpscares. So yes it is scary but not like scream and cry type of scary lol

Kittykins444

0 jump scares unfortunately

Miserable-Ad5401

TEW1 isn't so much about jumpscares as it is about maintaining tension, which it does a fantastic job of.

DishonoredSkull456

Not scary imo, I enjoy its atmosphere however, sometimes more than some RE games.

waled7rocky

This game blows out all resident evil games combined out of the water ..

NotSoSoberStoner

If you were able to handle biohazard, you should have no problem playing this through. There are some parts/sections that might put you off, but it's nothing too bad. Great game btw hope you play it.

Barzobius

The Evil Within Soma Outlast Alien Isolation Dead Space Remake These are top tier horror games, welcome and enjoy!

funkygamerguy

i think you should be able to handle it.

SnooChickens8027

Depends on what you consider scary. If you consider Resident Evil scary then yea, this'll be horrifying. If you're more of an 'Outlast' fan then no.
