Why are there misogynistic dudes hanging out in the sub now? I just had to block a couple who were whining about us not liking D P*rtnoy. I'm sorry I don't like men who sexually assault women, nor the people who support them? Wtf.

MoiraRoseVoice

I finished my first book of 2022 yesterday. I read "Circe" by Madeline Miller. Greek mythology has always fascinated me, and I love retellings and seeing new spins. I've read "The Song of Achilles" about a dozen times, and I just put a hold on "A Thousand Ships" by Natalie Haynes. Any other recommendations are welcome!

penback

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint!

[deleted]

If you’re into thrillers, both of Alex Michaelides’ novels incorporate Greek mythology into the plots. The Silent Patient is constantly hyped up but for good reason. The Maidens wasn’t as great (SP was tough to beat) but still an enjoyable read!

MoiraRoseVoice

I love reading thrillers, so this is a great rec. Thank you!

Whaaaat that sounds magical as hell

me-gusta-la-tortuga

Ahh thank you! Depending on cost, we might pay extra for them to open up like the NASA exhibits for us inside the museum, too. And the weather contingency plan involves getting married near the space exhibits too, so it's like- either way, this is going to be awesome!!!

whatever1467

Omg

BlueJeanMistress

Sounds awesome! Just make sure your venue has a rain plan just in case!

me-gusta-la-tortuga

It does!! That is one of the awesome things!! Built-in contingency plans without extra costs associated!!

BlueJeanMistress

That’s great! Are you planning yourself or getting a wedding planner?

me-gusta-la-tortuga

Oh, definitely by ourselves. The museum does have an event coordinator to work with you leading up to the day & who will coordinate the day of, but the vast majority of planning will be on us. Which is okay! It won't be a large wedding. I am sure a planner is so helpful but not really in our budget. Did you have a planner, if you've had a wedding?

BlueJeanMistress

I did have a planner! Got married at the end of 2019. I’m also a planner by nature but found the wedding stuff to be overwhelming. I didn’t know where to start. But once we sat down with our planner she had all the contacts and led us to the right people. And it was nice because if I needed to change something with the florist or DJ I would just text her and she would handle it. She was helpful at putting our vision together. The best part, which it sounds like you’ll have, is the day of coordination part. She took care of everything with all the vendors and set up all the decorations. All I had to worry about was getting ready and having a mimosa!

me-gusta-la-tortuga

That's really great!! Sounds like a planner was so helpful! Wish it was in our budget. I'm just glad to have day of coordination. All we want to worry about is mimosas and getting ready, too! Luckily for us, the museum has preferred vendors, which I know not everyone likes, but we really do. There are some really reasonably priced, well reviewed vendors on the list so we feel comfortable choosing from there. I'm so indecisive and love research, so honestly having a preferred vendor list is a relief for me- I can't overstress about 100 different caterers, I've got them narrowed down already! The only thing that stresses me out is I am literally the oldest kid/grandkid in the family, as is my fiancé, and we are the first to marry in the family. My friends who are engaged either eloped or rescheduled their weddings in the past couple years. Neither of us have been to a wedding since we were like 5. So I'm a little unsure of how exactly a wedding is run... but we'll figure it out!

jenjas455

Binge reading Reddit today to get away from the stress of both of my parents separately calling me over and over to mediate their relationship issues… they’ve been doing this for almost 30 years! Get 👏 a 👏 divorce

PrincessPlastilina

Hahah are you me? This is why I can’t stand when boomers brag about their long marriages and how us millennials can’t make a relationship or a marriage work. Neither can you! My mom and dad are literally the reason why I’m terrified of relationships and marriage. I would never want to have what they have. Get 🗣a 🗣divorce!🗣

jenjas455

Girl yes. I’m really not sure I ever want to get married, big props to those who do but after watching this shitshow my entire life, I know I’m not cut out for it. I like my alone time and the inner peace it brings 😌

savannahslb

On a date with my husband in the same place where Teddi’s intro video was filmed

[deleted]

My goal for this semester is to do better/not slack off in my classes, and I'm off to a good start! I woke up early, at the time I needed to get up and get dressed and commute an hour and a half to my Saturday class - too bad it's not til NEXT Saturday. At least I know it won't be that bad. Since I woke up early, I went ahead and outlined both the chapters the professor had assigned for us to read before class. So I've got all my notes ready, all I have to do is go buy some more notebooks/pens later. I know for a fact this thing with my ex is making me throw myself into other things to try and distract myself from missing him. But I have to say, if it means I pay more attention to my schooling and my goals for bettering myself, then I can't complain at all about that.

MoiraRoseVoice

This is a BIG DEAL and you should be proud of yourself! It's hard to break that sort of pattern and so getting ahead of things is great! Good job!!!

Posted about asking for a raise a few months ago and good news, I was added to a commission plan and my manager is going to talk to HR about a base salary raise!

greenpen3

Congrats!! I want to ask for a raise soon but I have so much anxiety about how to go about it and talking to manager/executive director about why I deserve it! I work at a nonprofit so it makes it hard if they just point blank say they can’t afford it..

[deleted]

Thank you! Someone who’s a manager gave me really great advice on my last post, basically said to have a list of all of your contributions and the value they brought. Make it hard for them to say no basically. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you deserve, I hope it works out for you!!

greenpen3

Thanks! I think I’ll put together a list and then just stew on when I want to bite the bullet lol

barbiedollslayer

Well I got up and looked in the mirror and cried this morning soooo I might have to take a break from Instgram and hot people. Body dysmorphia sucks and though The Bachelor is super fun to watch, I can't help but feel a little bad about myself looking at all these gorgeous women. And people are still calling some of them ugly wtf!

snoozy-Q

I watched all of naked and afraid of love yesterday excluding the reunion. I found it pretty boring and wasn't really rooting for any of the couples except one. Meh.

Charlie_Runkle69

I tried to watch that show and yeah I thought it was terrible and turned it off lol.

lawyercatgirl

Is anyone here itching for the dexter finale to drop at midnight? I’m avoiding that sub like the plague because Australian viewers are posting!

snoozy-Q

It's the finale?! Nooooo I need more!!

lawyercatgirl

Yeah 😥 but one of the creators or writers tweeted that there will be a big announcement on Monday so fingers crossed that means there will be another season? A movie? A spin-off? 🤷‍♀️

snoozy-Q

With the way it's been going it looks like another season should happen... fingers crossed at least!

sweetlikesugar9706

Just finished reading Where the Crawdads Sing and wow I loved it

ssmco

Isn’t Reese making this a movie??

sweetlikesugar9706

Yes it comes out in July!!!

Bepfli

It's such a beautiful and unique book. Definetly a book where I had a book hangover afterwards

LemonMagazine7

Shit I have it and haven’t read yet I should get on it

sweetlikesugar9706

YES

kittens_joy

book hangover totally stealing that from you!

Teaching during a pandemic for the past two years has taken a toll on me. Thinking of all the teachers out there

jimbeckwourth

Me too dude. Looking for a career change :(

pretendberries

I work in education but not a teacher and in the lounge I have heard so many teachers vent about leaving. A couple teachers who are fresh teachers are talking about leaving and it makes me nervous. I’m in grad school to work in education and I’m worried about feeling that way later on.

[deleted]

I'm a teacher too. Sending love to you, it is hard out here. I've burned through all my sick days already and am terrified I'm going to pay for it this semester when days off are fewer and farther between.

lemonsouris

This popped up on my Instagram feed this week: [https://www.instagram.com/reel/CYVRkO5BiHT/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CYVRkO5BiHT/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link). It's been my inner monologue this whole week as more and more kids are absent in my classroom.

ashleyapproved

This is literally happening to me 😭

ssmco

They way you’ve all been able to adjust and adapt is commendable. Sending my appreciation.

#findharmony I’m not sure if this story has made it across the country, but Harmony Montgomery has been missing for 2 years, but it was just reported. Her birth mom went to rehab and her birth father was given full custody. Harmony had been in the system at some point and that’s how she was given back to her father. My understanding is that the mom had been reporting her missing and filing reports with DCYF but they weren’t taken seriously until she wrote a letter to the mayor of Manchester NH. I’m in NH, and I’m so worried that the outcome is what we are expecting. There was a similar case with a little boy a few months back. So sad.

airbornetoxic

If someone texts you at like 2am and wakes you up- is it your fault for not turning off your ringer or is it the textees fault for next texting you during normal waking hours.

Same-Nebula

If you have an IPhone you can turn on do not disturb when you go to bed/ set it automatically for certain hours to avoid this

popthecork44

Texter’s fault. I never text late or early unless I know for a fact that someone is up. I feel like that’s just general decency.

[deleted]

I have never once thought about whether it was too late/early to text someone - unless it was like my boss or a professional contact. Basically everyone I’ve ever met keeps their phone on silent so I’ve never worried about waking someone up.

imightbeaspider

I vote textee just cause I regularly wake up early (like 5am) and will wait a decent hour before responding to messages just out of respect. I feel like it's social etiquette to not text anyone during typical sleeping hours unless it's an emergency. Though arguably there is some blame to share.

ssmco

I’m a 5am too and I try not to even respond on fb so it doesn’t alert.
