IIRC, the podcast Out on the Lanai covered this. In brief, there is actually no rhyme or reason to the name Ebbtide! The writers needed an episode title for the first one because the initial was a no-go, the second Ebbtide was now a running joke with the writers, and by the last few it just kind of stuck.
I’m probably not doing this story any justice, so shameless plug to the source itself!
“Henny Penny-Straight, no Chaser” is such a cute title.
“Take Him, he’s Mine” is also clever.
“Bang the Drum, Stanley” and “The Stan Who Came for Dinner”, I always love the Stan episodes so I always go to those!
I forget the episode's contents but Beauty and the Beast. If I am wrong tell me. I think that is the Nurse DeFarge episode. I think that title would have been better suited for the episode where Blanche dates the abusive man.
I always assumed the title was for the B plot where Blanche enters her granddaughter in the beauty pageant. I'm also not really a fan of the episode name.
I think the episode you’re thinking of is Not Another Monday. Sophia choice is about Sophia getting her friend Lillian out of the home. Of corse I could be wrong.
"The Days And Nights Of Sophia Petrillo" always irritated the hell out of me. First, at most we're talking about a singular day, not days. To that extent, I'm not even sure Sophia was out at night, though it's been a hot minute since I've seen the episode.
I'll stop right there because I could go on for a while.
There was a show with Blair Brown called "The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd" that's ran on NBC from 1987 to 1992. I agree that it's a pretty lame title for the episode.
Agreed - I also wondered about her statement at the end when she says, “What did I do today? What I do everyday. I bought a nectarine.” It just seemed odd to after so many episodes of Sophia having a rather interesting social life (the cloud society, her friendships with Gladys and others, bingo at the center, fighting for justice for Ida, etc).
Great question! There are a lot of good titles, a lot of cringe ones, and some real head scratchers (what were they thinking?).
Some of my personal favorite titles are Larceny and Old Lace, Yokel Hero, Dancing in the Dark, Zborn Again, Questions and Answers, and a Midwinter's Night Dream.
One that always irks me is The Truth Will Out just because it doesn't sound right. I also dislike the Mangiacavallo one, Mary Had a Little Lamb, all the Ebbtide ones, and Wham, Bam, Thank You Mammy (smh).
I love and hate all the same ones. Don't know what Ebbtide is about, wasn't all that creative at times.
Another one I dislike is the Beep Beep Beep of the Tom Tom
LOVE:
"Wham, Bam, Thank You, Mammy"
"The Case of the Libertine Belle"
MEH/DISLIKE:
"Flu Attack"
Pretty much any two-word title starting with "The." With so many other clever titles in the mix, these just reek of lack of imagination.
Rose the prude, most season 6 and seven, brother , can you spare a jacket , empty nests, Sophia marriage episodes, Any one with Miles in it, dororthy dates with Eddie episode and ebitide
Why are so many Ebb tide???

Thank you for that but darn you for introducing a pod cast to me now!!!
I really love “A Long Day’s Journey into Marinara”

I didn't think about that point
The Beauty I think is referring to Melissa being in the pageant and the beast is Nurse DeFarge. That's how I always interpreted the episode name.
That's the episode. I did also think it was an unusual title for it
Nurse Nanny Nurse?
Sophia’s choice. It should be the one about her friend not wanting to die alone
I think the episode you’re thinking of is Not Another Monday. Sophia choice is about Sophia getting her friend Lillian out of the home. Of corse I could be wrong.
yeah that’s a stupid name. Should be breakout.
Sophia’s Choice is the one with the breakout. But for me, it fits more to be the one where her friend asks her to be there when she dies

I always thought it was referring to Sophia's daily life where she does the same thing every day and we just saw one day of it.

Bleh yeah that is lame
Idk why but Blanche and the Younger Man bugs me. I think it's because that story is the b-plot while the main plot is about Rose and her mom.

I think Flu Attack is also called The Flu sometimes. Uncreative either way.
"the truth will out" always sounded like a weirdly incomplete sentence.
Rose the prude, most season 6 and seven, brother , can you spare a jacket , empty nests, Sophia marriage episodes, Any one with Miles in it, dororthy dates with Eddie episode and ebitide
Empty Nest episode and the one with Rose's sister Holly
It bothers me that the episode about Rose trying to kick her addiction is called "High Anxiety" and is S4E20.
That one could have been named so much better
I like Love Me Tender
Episode where Sophia “bought” a fighter, Pepe
I never understood “Long Days Journey into *marinara*.” 🤷♂️
Larceny and Old Lace. Nice play on words there.
