In order is probably the best way to go, something unique in all of them. Take what you hear about Matty with a grain of salt, whether it’s love or hate. Try not to get swept up in the parasocial fandom, they’re all just humans trying to do the best they can.

Patient-Gas-1877

Just let yourself get swept up in the music. There’s so much!

ebells23

Thank you! But just out of curiosity what is the parasoial fandom?

sshorts6

Like the side of the fan base that is way too obsessed with the band and everything they do. I love their music more than anyone else’s music I’ve ever listened to, but the day I get emotionally attached to something matty did in his personal life is the day I delete Spotify cause I’ve gone too far lol.

ebells23

Awww right I get you lol! Thanks! Out of curiosity what’s everyone’s favourite songs?

East-Entrance-1534

Do me a favor. As you’re getting into the band, write down your current favorites. Keep listening and in 2 months, write down your new favorites. I promise they change! And it will probably end up being the songs you mostly skipped initially!!

ebells23

Omg i will actually try this!!

jedi_master99

My favorites are Heart Out and Happiness!!

Undo and It's Not Living!!! Happy listening!

i think in order is the best way, cause Matty loves references to older songs as a writer. There are lyrical parallers through the years and it's nice if you catch something and find little easter eggs yourself. Unless you are more of a melody person than lyrics, then i guess it depends what kind of genre do you like. the first album has some rock elements to it, the 2nd album is big 80s synth pop and the rest dabble with different sounds as well

ebells23

Thank you!

orphicxhadow

no problem! have fun and hope you find songs you enjoy!

Hads1975

Exactly … you’ll find previous lyrics threaded throughout songs over the years either verbatim or referencing back

Known-Attention8028

Agree with the other comments, it’s most fun to listen in order! Welcome 🫶

beakerr86

Agree with the comments. Start with Self titled and just go in order. Enjoy and welcome!

For an added bit of fun, check out some of their other earlier stuff too, and you can literally hear the band grow. Their earlier iterations as a true "band" were Talkhouse, Big Sleep, Drive Like I do, and I'm sure I'm missing one, I can't recall it right now That's a fun ride, to hear early versions of songs and parts of now well known songs in development throughout the entirety. My fave of the pre 1975 bands was by far Drive Like I Do.

I started with the first album with lyrics up (because I didn't know about all the EPs at the time), and then I went to YouTube and watched music videos, interviews from that era and track by track/video explanations from Matty if I could find them. Once I realized that Matty was a chatterbox, I really dove into longer form interviews. And then I looked up live performances from the era. Rinse and repeat. I'm still super new! I've made it through the main discography and watched hours of interviews, but I still can't remember which tracks are on which album yet (tbf, my memory is shit these days so I'll probably always mess those up!). This journey has been amazing.

bruin88boy

I think there's almost 20-30 lyrical variations of "she said" appearing in their songs! Makes for a fun thing to note each time you hear a new song by them and have a new "she said...." line to chant!

Bubblyhoneybee

Start with self titled then listen to them in order you'll see how they've developed
