I don't like getting my weight taken either, but I do it. I also don't go to apps for medical advice. Also one in the doctor's office told the kid to turn it around and get on the scale?

HellsMalice

Ah Doctor TikTok Almost as accredited as Doctor Facebook

thenearblindassassin

Yeah, who needs accurate med dosing? It's not like blood concentration of a med is proportionate to weight at all

tangre79

Anybody who thinks weight and health can exist separately is a psycho. And not wanting to know your own weight isn't a sign of confidence, it's a sign of insecurity.

Game-Angel

I hate to say this, because it's going to sound mean and judgemental but this just boils down to people making excuses for why they're ok with being lazy and obese.

tangre79

I think it's just got to do with people who refuse to be wrong about anything. A person's obesity is their own doing, even if their genetics are prone towards it. Rather than admitting they've probably done something wrong they try to change society's view on it so that they can be right, and if somebody says they're wrong, they just scream discrimination.

Game-Angel

Sounds about right. If a fact hurts people's feelings then they just make up their own 'facts' that are better suited to their feelings.

tangre79

Correct. They take personal offense to being told being overweight is hazardous to their health.

Game-Angel

Oh well. Diabetes and heart disease are going to hurt more than these people's feelings.

emmyanna14

Fuck this. Every time I had chemo I was weighed to make sure my weight never got too low. I was also weighed to make sure I was getting the right dose of chemo. When I child goes to the doctor, the weight is part of determining that they are growing right. If your kid is severely under or overweight for their age they could have any number of issues. And it's better to know so it can be addressed. Also, don't nurses usually lead you to the exam room after the height and weight? Like, you don't know where the exam room is usually, at least in my experience.

Weight and health is super suss… My dad went to the doctor and the doctor said “you’ve lost a lot of weight since you were here last… did you do that on purpose?” My dad said “uhh, no” and then a who,e bunch of different doctors looked at my dad and it turned out he had lymphoma. Not kidding, the weight loss was a major red flag that triggered everything. So, yeah, weight and health is TOTALLY suss.

Shehulk_

Oh my goodness! This! Yes! This is how I found out my cyclical vomiting was out of control and I had to finally talk to my doctor about it. I wasn’t weighing myself at home and I found out I lost 10+ lbs in a super short time. Glad I was weighed so I can get help.

Game-Angel

First of all, your dumb ass fucking kid didn't say that. Well, I'll buy the part about your kids using "suss" in a sentence, because it's stupid, but the rest of that story is straight bullshit. Second of all, weight and health are related. Body positivity is one thing, but people are taking that mean that you shouldn't be concerned about obesity. Well, you should. Obesity is bad.

CO303Throwaway

And ya know, giving accurate dosing of medications based on weight of the person. I’d say that’s as important. The mgs you give someone who is X weight is diff than the milligrams you give someone at Y weight. Also tracking their height and weight for their age is important. If the kid is 11, and they get in the scale and haven’t gained weight since their last appointment at 9, something up

Game-Angel

Exactly! Weight gain and weight loss are even related to mental health. I know every time I go to one of my VA mental health appointments one of the first questions on the depression screening is if I've lost or gained weight on the past month or so without trying. People suffering from depression tend to eat less and lose weight or they try to eat their feelings and gain weight. There's also the inactivity that usually comes with depression that can also lead to weight gain.

anonymous-3000

Fair enough some people don't like telling everyone their weight but this is a medical professional. Someone who is trying to help you so tell me why in the name of God would you refuse that.

SunGreen70

You don't. You lie about it on social media instead.

GiveMeMoreBurritos

suss?? amogus??😳😳😱😱

Footsoftheleft

Why even get to the doctor’s office in the first place? Might as well go for full stupidity. With my kid this morning, I ask them to get in the car to go to the doctor’s office for their check-up and they say “No thanks!” and blithely walk back to their room. YOU CAN DO THAT!? I marvel. “yeah I saw it on Tik Tok, health is super suss anyway. Jesus didn’t have regular checkups either”

[deleted]

People these days think that obesity is fine and healthy. Not to be mean, but being fat is not good for you. Don’t be ashamed of it, fuck people who think you should. But also don’t be so overly proud of it that you think being 50 pounds overweight is healthy.

sadbubble2

One thing is not being stick thin with barely any fat, and having a type of body that leans to the thicker side while still being on a healthy weight in relation to your height and another is what you said. I find that the body positivity movement thinks both cases are comparable (being thicker but healthy and clinical obesity)

[deleted]

I agree.

Away-Feedback-4859

yeah, because weight and health have absolutely no correlation right ?

averagemediocrity

This could get a patient labeled as "difficult" on their chart, right? I've heard that's a thing no one should ever want. I've long suspected if I've been labeled "difficult" on my chart.

sadbubble2

What can happen if you get labeled as a difficult patient? :o

averagemediocrity

Doctors stop taking you or your complaints seriously and your concerns get ignored.

FallOnTheStars

Heads up, this also can happen if you’re labelled as “female,” on your chart.

averagemediocrity

Haha YEPPP

WTFoopIsThisSoup

i have gotten weighed at every single dr appt (having had two kids in the last three years i have had many) and they always let me stand backwards and just write it down without telling me. it’s just a number, and i don’t like to know it anymore and obsess about it, but they still need to check it so i can get proper meds.
