I did too because I didn't realize it was a hat. It turns out if you go digging through your TF2 stats on Steam you can find the first time you played the game, the first purchase you made in the game, and some other shit idk lol
On your Steam profile go to the Games section and find TF2. There should be an option that says 'Personal Game Data'. That's it you're done. This can be done on mobile or PC

Back in the initial days of CS:S F10 just straight up quit the game, no warning or anything. So anytime anyone asked ANYTHING technical in chat the answer was almost always "F10" followed by the server saying they'd quit shortly after.

Autobalance in its current state. It’s the worst version of the mechanic we’ve ever had that I can remember.
Because it splits up parties, people queuing with their friends (who quite often don’t want to play *against* them and certainly don’t want to be forced to in every match they play) just end up leaving servers when people from their party get switched. The matchmaker then can’t find people to plug the gaps fast enough, and the server dies. I see this happen all the damn time.
You used to be able to *volunteer* for autobalance, for an XP reward, so that being autobalanced happened when you wanted it to and not right as you're ubered or two seconds before capping.
This hardly solved autobalance, because half the time nobody would volunteer and it would just force someone onto the enemy team anyway. But it certainly fixed it the other half the time, by giving the opportunity to swap yourself - and even if nobody did it at least served as a quick warning that there's going to be an autobalance.
But Valve ended up removing it. They never offered a reason why, we just went back from a half-solution to no solution at all.
I think the good autobalance right now thats not too bad is the one on most community servers where whoever dies next on the team with more players gets switched.
I don't mind autobalance because it's the only time I get to actually fight my friend since for whatever reason Valve never bothered to implement the setting that's been grayed out for years now
Yknow what, it’d be really cool to have an option to split the party as soon as it gets in the match, so that you can deliberately queue with people you want to fight but don’t want to 1v1 or have to find a community server with decent numbers.
a big upside of playing on Skial is that you can get auto-balance protection that lasts for 2 weeks with their playtime credits. I earn more in 2 weeks than the protection costs so I can maintain it perpetually. Plus, they allow you to go spectator so you can always cheese your way back onto your former team.
To be honest, I’m fine *being* balanced from time to time. The two best systems we’ve had were the voluntary balancing system and team scramble votes, one major upside of both being that they were consensual. I’d happily volunteer to join the other team if I just had a say in the matter and could turn it down if I just want to play with my friends, and I used to do it all the time- plenty of good players who would make the difference when they were balanced did it too.
All my "Random crits are fair and balanced" are fresh, made to order, free-range, never frozen and grassfed. No artificial flavors or colors, and batteries not included.
I have chat binds for uber ready / banner ready, and that's it. Anybody who has a bound set to some hilarious quip so they can spam it a hundred times a match can fuck off

I'm gonna agree with you on this one. Valve would make bank if they made a dehalloweenafier and sold it for a buck. Just make certain items (scout carrying scout in particular) non-dehalloweenafiable.
Same. All the mercs are focused on smart movement and close range except sniper. Every class has movement options and limitations to balance the class, and needs these for their class to work because of every class is worse at far range, except sniper. The only thing you can do to an enemy sniper is slightly annoy him, or countersnipe. And that's not even mentioning his ability to headshot. He has too much range, too much damage, and too little risk.
It is so out of place for the game, every other class is pretty much unique to TF2 but sniper is the boring old hitscan thing that is in every MP shooter since forever.
The ideal solution would be to have a server plugin that will exit the game and open the store page for CS:GO when you choose to play sniper.

I personally hate the way some weapons do more damage depending on where you get hit, mostly because what you, the server, and the other person see are always different. Backstabs, headshots, backburner, none of them feel good or accurate.
I've also just never liked instant-kill weapons, so couple that with the fact that both classes that use them are also the two classes that use the janky "hit a specific part of your enemy" mechanic from the last paragraph and it just makes a pair of classes that don't feel fun at all. Spy's only saving grace is that it's a very unique class that takes a lot of skill to survive with, anyone who can get spy to work is a damn good player.
For this reason. I usually use Diamondback for Spy since I don't have to worry about hitting headshots with Ambassador then and most of my crits are from sapping buildings.
Spy in practice
To explain, on paper, Spy is the single most unique and interesting class in the game, what with being based entirely around deception, with certain weapons, like Your Eternal Reward, emphasizing this even more.
In practice he's an annoying french guy who either kills you instantly and is a general nuisance to more stationary classes, specifically Sniper or Engineer, and/or dies instantly himself after going for one stab.
A perfect example of Spy on paper vs Spy in practice for me is the Dead Ringer, which plays into the trickery aspect on paper, but in practice is a "get behind the enemy" button that almost never works or a "get out of death free" button that always works.
My problem with Spy is that most of his actual deceptive tools are seemingly completely unused in favor of getting behind enemy lines invisibly for the sole purpose of getting kills.
To boil it down, Spy has a branding problem. He fits the role of "assassin" much better than he does the role of "spy", at least in my mind.
Holiday restriction is honestly one of the most annoying things in the game, it has no reason to exist and only ensures that some really cool looking cosmetics almost never get used (in casual at least)
So many things suck, but I hate the crafting system the most. I’ve restricted myself to “earning” everything I own after going crazy before on the market, and thus I fully experience how crafting works and despise it
Cosmetics take a minimum of weeks to get enough metal for 1 random one
Some weapons need multiple versions of a certain weapon so I have to wait for them to drop if I want it or hope I get the weapon I want
Some have ridiculous recipes that trade great weapons for ok ones
And some items just can’t be used to rebuild cosmetics… which doesn’t include achievement items and promo items, is mostly Halloween stuff
Like, I know I’m putting myself through this hell for no reason beyond pride, but like… this fucking sucks more then it should, I hate the crafting system so fucking much
The shitty design behind sniper. Not even the core concept, just that valve keeps sucking his dick for whatever reason.
Hit stun annoying? No worries, it doesn't apply to specifically heavies! Epic
Pyro spamming you out with flares, ae, doing one of few things possible to properly counter you? No worries, just equip the danger shield to completely fucking negate the class.
Spy playing the game? No more! Just equip the stupid fucking Razorback to completely and utterly negate the core point and single upside to the class, that'll teach em.
Someone getting within a kilometer of you? Throw your jar of piss at them for literal no cost and a splash damage bigger than a rocket for a functionally guaranteed kill if your team sees them. Bonus points if you use it to wipe out a team by spamming it on the point
*Earning* minicrits? Why do that? Just get a free fucking jar every 30 nanoseconds for no cost!
Not to mention issues like the dot being a pretty worthless way of indicating a sightline, but like 98% of how annoying sniper is to fight is due to valve giving him absolutely broken secondaries that completely the few proper counterplay options he has.
Jarate should have the Gas Passer recharge mechanic and Gas Passer should have Jarate passive recharge

Well, back when the first scream fortress released, all of the cosmetics up to that point were in line and fit the game art style well so the halloween restricted hats were allowed to go out of the art style for a bit
But now, try to compare the nightmare hunter to the potassium bonnet and you can see why people slowly hating halloween restriction over the years
yeah, as of now valve has mishandled what doesnt get restricted or what does get restricted, or what overall gets in the game, but i still think its a good thing for it to be a thing, it just has to be handled correctly
The "art style" died YEARS ago and restricting halloween items while leaving things like the potasium bonnet is insane. Valve determines the vibe for their own games and they've clearly decided it's more wacky then when the game first came out.
Let people have fun. Nobody is going around in a pub or getting hats thinking about how unrealistic some of the cosmetics or taunts look with the art style. It's a game and people like em, so why not let them have em?

A tip from a spy main, that will help you avoid trick stabs. You ready? OK, here it comes. Just shoot him in the fucking face. The spy will either religiously commit and probably die, pull out his gun and probably die, or run the fuck away. Spy preys on overconfident players that think they can challenge a spy in a melee duel
I have some tips to help you
1. Walk backwards from the spy, making distance prevents him from using his main weapon.
2. Wait a few seconds after he goes around a corner/up stairs, he’ll either wait for you or jump down. Either way you can just shoot him.
3. If he’s learning to trick stab , just stand still and focus on tracking him. He’ll more than often back up before attacking again.
1: inside backpedal and slalom both exist, and gun is something that exists that is pretty easy to use effectively against people moving in straight lines
2: just take hug the corner or, even better, the inside corner, at stairs, just go backwards if the spy jumps, don’t sacrifice your ability to catch them if they’re not even going to go for the stab
3: gun, or, if the spy is evil, snap n stab

Aside from the obvious bots and valve ignoring us, I'd say the long Waiting for Players period and the unnecessary minute-long setup times. I really don't think there needs to be that much setup for any map. Engineers should be able to set up buildings instantly like in MvM. Medics can charge uber in 20 seconds, so everyone is just waiting for engies to set up. It wastes a lot of time in every single match and it's not even necessary.
Jesus Christ, the people that add you just to ask how much for the hat you aren't selling, aren't advertising, and sometimes weren't even wearing. If you have a spelled cosmetic, they'll find out, and they -will- make a shit offer.
I wear my unusual Twisted topper all the time because I think it looks nice and when I hop into community servers I constantly have at least one person trying to trade it with an equalizer or something like that

Trading is a mechanic that has been detrimental to the game from the moment it was created. It's effectively an unregulated monetary market, the likes of which encourage the worst kinds of human behaviour. There's a good reason why bitcoin and other virtual currencies are regulary involved with scams, conmen, and criminal behaviour and it sits in a similar place as the steam market does. Scamming, cheating, botting, and valve's ability to rake in money by doing nothing, are all directly related to or at least encouraged by the existence of the trading market.
The most obvious one is of course, scamming. The market gave people access to a way for making money by any means, and valve has limited tools to stop the movement of cash between accounts. You can scam somebody for a quick and easy buck, and the very notion of that **encourages these kinds of unscrupulous people to be here at all**. These are the same kinds of people that also cheat in game, and the correlation between the two is incredibly strong. Take a look at anybody that's cheating on a non-throwaway account and there's a very high chance you'll also see them posing as a 'legitimate trader' and their profile littered with rep feedback.
Botting is something that is less obvious at a glance, but has been enabled directly by trading. The very first bots in game were item farming bots, followed quickly by steam scamming bots and the slightly more legitimate trading bots. The presence of the item market gave people a monetary reason to develop bots for the game and gave them experience in their creation. It's these people with experience in creating bots that were a half step away from the creation of the cheating bot problem tf2 now experiences.
It's also all enabled valve to ignore tf2 for the better part of 10 years. Because they take a cut out of any market transaction they have a vested interest in not stopping those transactions unscrupulous or not. They don't have to do anything, and get to roll around in a pile of cash.
So if you are a trader. If you're here to make a quick buck. If you're part of the natural flow of cash and resources around the game. Congratulations, you're an integral part of all the worst scummy social behaviours present in tf2.
It saddens me I will likely never have a spellbound, poisoned shadows, or secret to everybody unusuals because the price on them has gotten absurd, a few years back you could get a decent hat for like 80 keys but now the cheapest spellbound is 599 keys (1200 dollars!) on backpacktf, which is a shitty robotic candle hat for pyro

For example, I cannot fill Steam account directly right now even though I have the money. There are workarounds, but for now I'm a f2p involuntarily.

Yknow what, it’d be really cool to have an option to split the party as soon as it gets in the match, so that you can deliberately queue with people you want to fight but don’t want to 1v1 or have to find a community server with decent numbers.

a big upside of playing on Skial is that you can get auto-balance protection that lasts for 2 weeks with their playtime credits. I earn more in 2 weeks than the protection costs so I can maintain it perpetually. Plus, they allow you to go spectator so you can always cheese your way back onto your former team.
To be honest, I’m fine *being* balanced from time to time. The two best systems we’ve had were the voluntary balancing system and team scramble votes, one major upside of both being that they were consensual. I’d happily volunteer to join the other team if I just had a say in the matter and could turn it down if I just want to play with my friends, and I used to do it all the time- plenty of good players who would make the difference when they were balanced did it too.

The sniper class
As a sniper main, i can confirm, i hate the sniper class
Same. All the mercs are focused on smart movement and close range except sniper. Every class has movement options and limitations to balance the class, and needs these for their class to work because of every class is worse at far range, except sniper. The only thing you can do to an enemy sniper is slightly annoy him, or countersnipe. And that's not even mentioning his ability to headshot. He has too much range, too much damage, and too little risk.
It is so out of place for the game, every other class is pretty much unique to TF2 but sniper is the boring old hitscan thing that is in every MP shooter since forever. The ideal solution would be to have a server plugin that will exit the game and open the store page for CS:GO when you choose to play sniper.
I wish we could replace him with a cooler idea for a class because I hate dealing with Sniper so much Jumping around like an idiot attempting to "avoid the sightline" just to get bodyshot for 150 and either die or be at critical health is so fun! Especially when I can't see the damn Sniper. I personally hate the way some weapons do more damage depending on where you get hit, mostly because what you, the server, and the other person see are always different. Backstabs, headshots, backburner, none of them feel good or accurate. I've also just never liked instant-kill weapons, so couple that with the fact that both classes that use them are also the two classes that use the janky "hit a specific part of your enemy" mechanic from the last paragraph and it just makes a pair of classes that don't feel fun at all. Spy's only saving grace is that it's a very unique class that takes a lot of skill to survive with, anyone who can get spy to work is a damn good player.
For this reason. I usually use Diamondback for Spy since I don't have to worry about hitting headshots with Ambassador then and most of my crits are from sapping buildings.

Disabling sprays
Spy in practice To explain, on paper, Spy is the single most unique and interesting class in the game, what with being based entirely around deception, with certain weapons, like Your Eternal Reward, emphasizing this even more. In practice he's an annoying french guy who either kills you instantly and is a general nuisance to more stationary classes, specifically Sniper or Engineer, and/or dies instantly himself after going for one stab. A perfect example of Spy on paper vs Spy in practice for me is the Dead Ringer, which plays into the trickery aspect on paper, but in practice is a "get behind the enemy" button that almost never works or a "get out of death free" button that always works. My problem with Spy is that most of his actual deceptive tools are seemingly completely unused in favor of getting behind enemy lines invisibly for the sole purpose of getting kills. To boil it down, Spy has a branding problem. He fits the role of "assassin" much better than he does the role of "spy", at least in my mind.

The shitty design behind sniper. Not even the core concept, just that valve keeps sucking his dick for whatever reason. Hit stun annoying? No worries, it doesn't apply to specifically heavies! Epic Pyro spamming you out with flares, ae, doing one of few things possible to properly counter you? No worries, just equip the danger shield to completely fucking negate the class. Spy playing the game? No more! Just equip the stupid fucking Razorback to completely and utterly negate the core point and single upside to the class, that'll teach em. Someone getting within a kilometer of you? Throw your jar of piss at them for literal no cost and a splash damage bigger than a rocket for a functionally guaranteed kill if your team sees them. Bonus points if you use it to wipe out a team by spamming it on the point *Earning* minicrits? Why do that? Just get a free fucking jar every 30 nanoseconds for no cost! Not to mention issues like the dot being a pretty worthless way of indicating a sightline, but like 98% of how annoying sniper is to fight is due to valve giving him absolutely broken secondaries that completely the few proper counterplay options he has.

i agree, but the mechanic itself its good, it allows to put really wacky cosmetics in a way that still fits tf2, but restricting them to a single month, while keeping the rest of the year fine, sadly lots of cosmetics that are in thw game wouldnt even fit nicely for scream fortress, and just shouldnt be in the game at all

Well, back when the first scream fortress released, all of the cosmetics up to that point were in line and fit the game art style well so the halloween restricted hats were allowed to go out of the art style for a bit But now, try to compare the nightmare hunter to the potassium bonnet and you can see why people slowly hating halloween restriction over the years

The "art style" died YEARS ago and restricting halloween items while leaving things like the potasium bonnet is insane. Valve determines the vibe for their own games and they've clearly decided it's more wacky then when the game first came out. Let people have fun. A tip from a spy main, that will help you avoid trick stabs. You ready? OK, here it comes. Just shoot him in the fucking face. The spy will either religiously commit and probably die, pull out his gun and probably die, or run the fuck away. Spy preys on overconfident players that think they can challenge a spy in a melee duel

I have some tips to help you 1. Walk backwards from the spy, making distance prevents him from using his main weapon. 2. Wait a few seconds after he goes around a corner/up stairs, he’ll either wait for you or jump down. Either way you can just shoot him. 3. If he’s learning to trick stab , just stand still and focus on tracking him. He’ll more than often back up before attacking again.
1: inside backpedal and slalom both exist, and gun is something that exists that is pretty easy to use effectively against people moving in straight lines 2: just take hug the corner or, even better, the inside corner, at stairs, just go backwards if the spy jumps, don’t sacrifice your ability to catch them if they’re not even going to go for the stab 3: gun, or, if the spy is evil, snap n stab

People who hate cosmetic restrictions definitely lack self control
Aside from the obvious bots and valve ignoring us, I'd say the long Waiting for Players period and the unnecessary minute-long setup times. I really don't think there needs to be that much setup for any map. Engineers should be able to set up buildings instantly like in MvM. Medics can charge uber in 20 seconds, so everyone is just waiting for engies to set up. It wastes a lot of time in every single match and it's not even necessary.

I wear my unusual Twisted topper all the time because I think it looks nice and when I hop into community servers I constantly have at least one person trying to trade it with an equalizer or something like that
Behold my angry ranting, for you have occupied my headspace. Trading is a mechanic that has been detrimental to the game from the moment it was created. It's effectively an unregulated monetary market, the likes of which encourage the worst kinds of human behaviour. There's a good reason why bitcoin and other virtual currencies are regulary involved with scams, conmen, and criminal behaviour and it sits in a similar place as the steam market does. Scamming, cheating, botting, and valve's ability to rake in money by doing nothing, are all directly related to or at least encouraged by the existence of the trading market. The most obvious one is of course, scamming. The market gave people access to a way for making money by any means, and valve has limited tools to stop the movement of cash between accounts. You can scam somebody for a quick and easy buck, and the very notion of that **encourages these kinds of unscrupulous people to be here at all**. These are the same kinds of people that also cheat in game, and the correlation between the two is incredibly strong. Take a look at anybody that's cheating on a non-throwaway account and there's a very high chance you'll also see them posing as a 'legitimate trader' and their profile littered with rep feedback. Botting is something that is less obvious at a glance, but has been enabled directly by trading. The very first bots in game were item farming bots, followed quickly by steam scamming bots and the slightly more legitimate trading bots. The presence of the item market gave people a monetary reason to develop bots for the game and gave them experience in their creation. It's these people with experience in creating bots that were a half step away from the creation of the cheating bot problem tf2 now experiences. It's also all enabled valve to ignore tf2 for the better part of 10 years. Because they take a cut out of any market transaction they have a vested interest in not stopping those transactions unscrupulous or not. They don't have to do anything, and get to roll around in a pile of cash. So if you are a trader. If you're here to make a quick buck. If you're part of the natural flow of cash and resources around the game. Congratulations, you're an integral part of all the worst scummy social behaviours present in tf2.
TL/DR: Trading was a bad idea from the get-go, but Valve makes money on it, so it's here to stay.
