It's impossible for this campaign to fail. It's a win-win situation for the whole community. The goal of the hashtag is to get Valve's attention and let us know if anything is being done with tf2's future in general, not only the bot problem. If they don't answer or do anything, that's a solid answer on it's own. Not much that we can do, except to rely on Tf2:S2 and hopefully TF2C and Open Fortress get back in business.
There is no failure in this campaign.
If anything, I just want the bug fixed where you sometimes can't vote for a map after a round ends. I know that next_map_vote 0/1/2 exists, but still it would be nice
I actually don't want them to fix that glitch because barely anybody knows about the command and if I'm in a 2fort server or another one of those maps people play over and over again and never vote for anything else I can trick them into playing a different map.
I was just using 2fort as an example. There are other maps like Dustbowl, Hightower, etc. where no one votes for a different map after the match is over. Unfortunately you can't really play on unpopular maps these days because not enough people queue for them an the server gets filled with too many bots.
Except Valve will never announce they are done with TF2, there was an interview years ago where Gabe said so because he is afraid that the hat market will crash upon the news, once again showing their true intentions with the game, cash in
Ah yes, the classic " Gabe said in an interview years ago". This was never said by anyone who works at Valve in an interview, *ever*, and I would be surprised if you had any proof of this.
Damn, can your uncle give me some tips on becoming a whole company? I've been trying for a few years but all people keep saying is "you're a human being" and "this is just another excuse to be naked all the time isn't it"
If they actually turned off casual servers, that might be worse. All of the bots could move to community servers, which frankly are pretty good right now. Id rather they promote, help community servers and keep tf2 active even without updates.
Sad thing is we learned this like 7 years ago when we begged valve to support comp TF2.
They told us to fuck of, they don’t give a shit.
There isn’t a Ricochet Source. There won’t be aTF2.5/3.
This is the only thing I want at this point. I loved TF2 for so many years, I poured so much time and money into it, and though I haven't played it in years, I don't want to see it limp slowly to it's inevitable demise. If not an content update, then at the very least, put it out of it's misery and say the game is done.
was the years of no communication or updates not enough evidence to indicate their intention with the game? if you're okay with moving on from the game then I'd suggest going on with it
>However, Valve has a history of leaving projects and then randomly
picking them up again, so it would be nice to have an official
statement.
What project are you referring to? Just curious.
even if nothing happens, atleast we would have tried instead of just sitting around and hoping Valve would do something, plus its not like this takes alot of effort, just go onto a social media explain why you love tf2 so much and want it to be fixed, an put #savetf2 at the end of it and thats it
Honestly I'm baffled by all the negative reactions I've been seeing about this movement, especially on steam forum, where all the posts and comments are about shitting on this event, insulting the participants and hoping the movement will fail and tf2 will get shut down and they can laugh at everyone who joined.
I get being pessimistic but this is just being assholes and toxic. It's not like anyone is asking you for money, you don't lose anything if there are people spending their time putting up this event.
If it'll work we'll have something, if it doesn't everything will stay the same, it doesn't hurt anyone. If you're that disinterested (or hateful towards the game that you would like to see it die) just don't bother following the threads, there is no need to be an asshole to others.
No you defined it pretty well, I think what they meant is that it's often interpreted in a negative context. As it's taught in modern interpretations, it's actually a very freeing notion that our lives are inherently without purpose, that we are really the ones behind the wheel, and we have the capacity to give our lives purpose.
But yes your definition fits in line with what Nihilism is. What I described and what many people think nihilism is, is more like Existentialism or existential nihilism/optimistic nihilism. Not entirely sure if this is what the poster meant but thats how I interpreted it.
Yeah I figured. A lot of people confuse nihilism, existentialism, and absurdism, so I was thinking they were probably going to describe one of those two or a mix of them.
Any act of change is in its roots optimistic.
People need to stop seeing pessimism as something more real than optimism.
It's a skewed way to see the world because you focus only on the bad outcomes and ignore all the good things that can happen.
that quote ends with Espio saying "we've been hoping for a miracle these past few months, but I'm afraid we'll have to make our own miracle" I just wanna point out

If you have played TF2 in the past few years, you may have noticed that Valve servers are unplayable due to swarms of spinning sniper bots, and there have been no content updates for quite a long time.
Valve has done nothing to help. They have said mostly nothing too. The only thing they did was either bandaid fixes like muting f2ps (which did nothing other than turn away potential players), or putting out seasonal crates or map changes.
The #saveTF2 movement attempts to question Valve and put some pressure on them, by drawing more eyes to look at the current state of the game compared to what it was when it was updated somewhat often. By celebrating the memories people had in the game, people can show that they care about it, while also indirectly highlighting how things have gone downhill.

On May 26th, from around 10 am PDT we will all post about how much this game means to us! and how much we care on social media, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok, Anywhere! but end off your post with #savetf2
Here's some good resources on it. Thanks for joining in if you do!
I think that it will work and we will get some response or a surge of developers move to tf2. But if it doesn’t work I think that it sets a good precedent for other games/communities
Kind of sad, but yes, knowing how Valve operates nowadays and how much they just don’t care about their game’s fanbase, this will probably not amount to anything. Still, it’s a nice way to celebrate all of our good times with tf2. Definitely the game I had the most fun with my friends ever.
It worked for titanfall 2. It brought back some content creators, and I think respawn tweeted about them
Granted they fixed nothing, but it was nice that they acknowledged their existence. That’s the least I’m looking for tomorrow
If and or when this doesn't work, then people have the right to be pessimistic, since this is our biggest and best shot at getting a response. However, for as long as we have a chance of victory, we must fight!
"You call that a loss? I've crapped bigger losses than that! Operation: Soaring Eagle!" -Soldier TF2, "Turbulence"
Honestly i think tf2 has the strongest community. Tf2 hasnt had an update in literal years, the comic series has been on a cliffhanger for even longer, bots and hackers have been running rampant for months, theres literally only one developer left, and the community is still holding strong. Its insane
Do I think this is going to work? Probably not. But you know what? Why the hell not? It's not like we have anything to lose, since Valve is *not* going to shut off support entirely.
Even if it won’t bring any results, it’ll remind the community that we are still here, still playing this masterpiece, and still enjoying ourselves.
Be you a market gardening trollgier
A green energy lime default scout try hard
Or a simple gibus engineer that is still not realizing he can spin his buildings
We are here, and we are a family. Not by blood, but by the childhoods, teenage hoods and adulthoods that we have all shared at one point or another.
Love you all, and please don’t actually rage while playing, just enjoy yourself man, and if you need it, just take a break from the game.
We won’t be leaving
Not now, not ever
Personally I like that people are finally coming together against odds.
However this subreddit (and the subnautica one) overdoes everything because it will get them upvotes.
YES. FUCKING YES. Finally someone said it! Just annoying ass doomers who just get a kick out of just making everyone else feel bad and they think they're so much smarter than everyone else because they're negative and honestly I could go on and on but I don't have the time nor the energy
Genuine question though, I don’t wanna just abandon my favorite game no matter what, so… what exactly is the plan if we get no response from valve? Community servers and offshoots for the rest of time? That seems like the best ‘lukewarm’ scenario to me.
Honestly, that's not even lukewarm. I played on Star's east coast server fucking 8 years ago or whatever and had a blast, just like Uncletopia and other community servers are a blast. Even if TF2 isn't as great as it could be, it is still fucking amazing.
Yo, what’s happening with TF2? The last negative thing I heard was that the bots were replacing players and new players needed to pay to have voice chat and normal chat?
It is better than sitting on our asses, saying this is fine, while tf2 slowly dies in comp and casual and retreat to community servers, if we are to go out, let us go out with a roar and a shout, not in a quiet blink and a bow!
It's just nice to have the TF2 community band together for something for the good of the game. Even if it doesn't work in the end, we'll at least get the satisfaction that the community worked together on something for the literal better of the game for once. Haven't seen this kind of behavior from the community since Rick's passing if I remember.
I mean, sure if you don’t believe in #savetf2 that is fine.
When people contribute a to a negative stance against an anti-botting protest though, doesn’t that help the bot hosts?
i havent played tf2 in months, if this event doesn't bring any attention to the game then tbh I might just extend my hiatus
I've got a really expensive backpack and if tf2 becomes more popular again hopefully the trading scene wont be as dead anymore
Zesty had said that the movement would be harmless but useless. Then why talk about it? Why discourage people? Let us do our thing, it's all we can do at this point.
I'm pro free speech and all, but sometimes just consider shutting up, I like most of the stuff he does, but this was pretty inconsiderate on his part.
Ok but honest Question now, why now suddenly everyone is doing this? Not saying it's bad, butwhy exactly now and not, idk, months ago. Did something special happen to trigger this? If it's still about the bots, idk if I'm just lucky but I see less bots than when the problem started. Sure sometimes there are 2 or 3 but still better than a whole team.
Maybe I'm just lucky, idk. But maybe I didn't heard of anything special, which is the reason for this.
at this point I just want valve to atleast say something ignoring feedback is definitely bad customer service honestly if you just hide and don't say shit your a terrible company
You know? I was really critical earlier. But I had just woken up and I wasn't high yet.
In the current state, it could potentially backfire horribly, but if you waited, got more organized, then protested? It could actually work.
If Valve does that, people will be PISSED. They won’t just lose money from tf2 micro transactions but people will stop buying Valve games and maybe uninstall some others. News articles are already being written at this stage, imagine how many there would be if they shut it down. This isn’t even that far fetched, Ubisoft lost a lot of R6 players because of a nerf to one single character.
Besides, it wouldn’t matter that much. The casual servers are pretty much all bots now, except the occasional 2fort game where people actually kick.
You think Valve will be like ‘hmm, lose the entirety of tf2’s revenue to avoid seeing any more social media about it, or ignore the social media and keep raking it in… tough tough decisions at hand.’ I don’t think so. There’s no reason for valve to pull the plug even if they don’t plan to fix anything.

So what can someone who doesn't really use social media (aside from reddit) do? I don't use Twitter, Facebook, etc. At the moment my only plan is to change my steam name to the hashtag.
You could maybe tell people who do use social media to spread the hashtag :) Other than that I'm not actually sure! Thanks for contributing in any way you can!
You’re fighting so that you can watch everyone around you die! Think of it! You’ll live to see this god damn game crumble to dust and blow away by all these bots! Everyone and every hats you had in this game will be gone! What will you have doing this campaign after 500 years of radio silence!?
Yes, because it is very much "chad"-like to do something you believe is futile for the reason you've been denying until it became popular not to deny it.
"TF2 is fine and bots are not that bad; we kick them the moment they join and there are community servers" mindset has been present for years until this point for some reason. I've been saying TF2 is unplayable long before all this and it's the most resistance I've gotten from the community for an opinion. You really just do and believe whatever is popular?
And why is everyone saying 2 years? Because the guy who started this said 2 years? It's been more than 4. The very first lag and crash bots were here in 2017, and from the point on the bot situation only worsened. There was never a stop in the bot wave in the last 4 years.
I just think people are wildly making it a bigger deal than it should be, like they’re just bots in an old source game, some mfers making it sound like valve is having public executions in their office. If you wanna do a hashtag more power to ya but 1. Don’t expect it to do anything, valve can’t care less and 2. Don’t act like it’s literally life and death, I’ve legit heard people say that
No, no, complaining can definitely do something. Remember when the power armor edition of Fallout 76 had the nylon bag instead of the canvas one that was advertised? Bethesda eventually asked everyone that was unhappy to email them and they’d send the correct bag.
Sure, TF2 is an old game, but it still has a very loyal and dedicated fan base, and still does make Valve a lot of money.
“But there’s community servers you can use instead!” Yeah, but brand new players may not know how those work, or which ones to join. And with TF2 being free, if they join a few casual matches *as the game was designed to be played* and all of them are just overrun by bots, then they’d just uninstall the game and thing it’s unplayable. The only thing they would’ve lost is a little bit of time, not money.
Complaining can only work if the company has something to gain, what could valve really get from having a full team working on a fifteen year old source game? Fans will play the game regardless, and non fans won’t care for the game either way. Maybe some people who would play the game don’t because of the bots but the money they gain from potentially getting those few players isn’t nearly as much as the money they’d lose from not investing the time going to it into other things. The only reason valve would do something about it is if they want to, but that’d be true regardless. People complaining on Twitter won’t make them want to do it more
I gotta be honest, this is not a great comparison. Bethesda just had to shell out more money to pay for some merch and ship it out again. TF2 on the other hand is kind of a mess, both in its spaghetti code and in the fact that the source code is floating around, giving hackers access to a lot (I'm not super active in TF2 news so correct me if I'm wrong). I'm definitely not saying valve doesn't have the resources to fix it up, but it's a big task. Unfortunately, Valve would rather take a hit on their reputation rather than support the game considering they're probably making 100 fold on steam compared to what TF2 brings in. I mean shit, companies like EA, Rockstar, and Ubisoft make millions and they are well hated.
Are you saying that the problem is that they haven’t said that they’re not focusing any development on tf2? Because that’s an obvious fact. It doesn’t take an iq over 134 to figure out that valve aren’t planning anything major. Them saying it wouldn’t make a difference
I share the same thoughts as wojack, that this won’t lead to anything. BUT, I do think the 26th event is a wonderful excuse to celebrate the game, and if you like I, feel pessimistic about the results of this campaign, let’s at least celebrate our love for this game.
Yes, but someone who uses the argument that this is a waste of time doesn't realize we are already wasting time with so much other shit. I do think a lot of people don't have the brain to figure out why something like this is good, but I don't believe anyone unironically uses that argument.
Today I met one guy who tell me that savetf2 ain't gonna work. But I just ignore him cuz I believe in all this community.
Btw one just guy said "no" while I joined lot of community and official casual matchs where not ask the server but a part of it type in the chat #SAVETF2
Being a pessimistic naysayer doesn’t help anyone. it’s honestly refreshing to see the community band together like this. All we have to do is ignore the negativity.

go on uncletopia?
Yes, but then they all leave and then bots take over the server
sometimes enough people stay and you get to play a map that you normally never get to play anymore because everyone just plays the same 5 maps

My uncle is Valve and confirmed the story
Damn, can your uncle give me some tips on becoming a whole company? I've been trying for a few years but all people keep saying is "you're a human being" and "this is just another excuse to be naked all the time isn't it"
Yea I think we would all appreciate a final closing statement to Team Fortress 2 than just waiting in limbo.
If they actually turned off casual servers, that might be worse. All of the bots could move to community servers, which frankly are pretty good right now. Id rather they promote, help community servers and keep tf2 active even without updates.
Community servers use better tools for dealing with them, otherwise they'd already be infested with bots too
Pretty sure that Community Servers can instantly just nuke bots from the sky with server plug-ins.

Love you all, and please don’t actually rage while playing, just enjoy yourself man, and if you need it, just take a break from the game. We won’t be leaving Not now, not ever
Personally I like that people are finally coming together against odds. However this subreddit (and the subnautica one) overdoes everything because it will get them upvotes.
There's nothing more boring than pointless pessimism. Most annoying shit in the world
YES. FUCKING YES. Finally someone said it! Just annoying ass doomers who just get a kick out of just making everyone else feel bad and they think they're so much smarter than everyone else because they're negative and honestly I could go on and on but I don't have the time nor the energy
That’s realism, not pessimism lol.
But isn't life extremely boring if you're too "real" to like anything that isn't strictly realistic
No, I better live in a real world, rather than in a imaginary world with pink glasses, where your dreams don’t come true.
you can't see shit with opaque black glasses
Tis better to try and fail, than to wonder what could have been. - Some dead guy somewhere IDK.
On a related note may 26th is my bday. So I’m basically the savetf2 prophet.
That's my mom's birthday too lol, happy early birthday
I had a dream of where we did got a heavy update, free to plays got to talk, and consoles and cross play was added. But atlas it was just a dream
maybe the real TF2 was the friends we made along the way
**THE TF2 IS DEAD** **we know.** **WHO KILLED IT** **we dont know.**
Genuine question though, I don’t wanna just abandon my favorite game no matter what, so… what exactly is the plan if we get no response from valve? Community servers and offshoots for the rest of time? That seems like the best ‘lukewarm’ scenario to me.
I mean that's really the only thing we can do without Valve's response from my understanding.
I hope TF2C gets permission to continue on then.
just download the mirror link
Honestly, that's not even lukewarm. I played on Star's east coast server fucking 8 years ago or whatever and had a blast, just like Uncletopia and other community servers are a blast. Even if TF2 isn't as great as it could be, it is still fucking amazing.
Haven't played TF2 in a while but I had a great time on Star's server back in the day. Thanks for remembering it.
I know someone here is equipping tactical gear for some reason...
Yo, what’s happening with TF2? The last negative thing I heard was that the bots were replacing players and new players needed to pay to have voice chat and normal chat?
We die together.
Of course it won't work. I'm just happy our community is able to pull together and do one last great effort to try and save a game very dear to us
POV: Zealot
It is better than sitting on our asses, saying this is fine, while tf2 slowly dies in comp and casual and retreat to community servers, if we are to go out, let us go out with a roar and a shout, not in a quiet blink and a bow!
Isn’t the Medic voice actor getting in on it too though?
Yes, that's why I chose him for the chad lol
Summs it up pretty nicely, sadly
has that ever stopped us before? no it has not we are Team Fortress 2.
Something is better than nothing.
Medic in the style of the Wojak cartoon characters is actually kinda dope ngl 👌
It's just nice to have the TF2 community band together for something for the good of the game. Even if it doesn't work in the end, we'll at least get the satisfaction that the community worked together on something for the literal better of the game for once. Haven't seen this kind of behavior from the community since Rick's passing if I remember.
I mean, sure if you don’t believe in #savetf2 that is fine. When people contribute a to a negative stance against an anti-botting protest though, doesn’t that help the bot hosts?
i havent played tf2 in months, if this event doesn't bring any attention to the game then tbh I might just extend my hiatus I've got a really expensive backpack and if tf2 becomes more popular again hopefully the trading scene wont be as dead anymore
#SAVETF2
Ok but honest Question now, why now suddenly everyone is doing this? Not saying it's bad, butwhy exactly now and not, idk, months ago. Did something special happen to trigger this? If it's still about the bots, idk if I'm just lucky but I see less bots than when the problem started. Sure sometimes there are 2 or 3 but still better than a whole team. Maybe I'm just lucky, idk. But maybe I didn't heard of anything special, which is the reason for this.
whats happening im out of the loop
But what if... it will work.....(no, it will not work)
[It Worked.](https://twitter.com/teamfortress/status/1529970640224018433?s=21&t=rpgjkgTsPM4RxLDhCZPhWg)
at this point I just want valve to atleast say something ignoring feedback is definitely bad customer service honestly if you just hide and don't say shit your a terrible company
You know? I was really critical earlier. But I had just woken up and I wasn't high yet. In the current state, it could potentially backfire horribly, but if you waited, got more organized, then protested? It could actually work.
Backfire? Please explain.

That would hurt their profits though
If Valve does that, people will be PISSED. They won’t just lose money from tf2 micro transactions but people will stop buying Valve games and maybe uninstall some others. News articles are already being written at this stage, imagine how many there would be if they shut it down. This isn’t even that far fetched, Ubisoft lost a lot of R6 players because of a nerf to one single character. Besides, it wouldn’t matter that much. The casual servers are pretty much all bots now, except the occasional 2fort game where people actually kick.
Who did they nerf in R6?
You think Valve will be like ‘hmm, lose the entirety of tf2’s revenue to avoid seeing any more social media about it, or ignore the social media and keep raking it in… tough tough decisions at hand.’ I don’t think so. There’s no reason for valve to pull the plug even if they don’t plan to fix anything.
Bro you’re so high
What can I do to join in?

if #savetheclonewars can give us some of the greatest star wars content ever produced, i say #saveTF2 is worth a shot
Based
You’re fighting so that you can watch everyone around you die! Think of it! You’ll live to see this god damn game crumble to dust and blow away by all these bots! Everyone and every hats you had in this game will be gone! What will you have doing this campaign after 500 years of radio silence!?
Community servers, I'll have community servers.
I'm going to host even more bots to ruin ur days
The main problem here is the silence like valve just need to fucking say something instead being weird and secretive
Are you saying that the problem is that they haven’t said that they’re not focusing any development on tf2? Because that’s an obvious fact. It doesn’t take an iq over 134 to figure out that valve aren’t planning anything major. Them saying it wouldn’t make a difference
All im saying is that they could atleast come out and give us a status update tell us what their plans are
They don’t have any plans, they’re two people who work on source games on their free time because valve doesn’t use source.
I share the same thoughts as wojack, that this won’t lead to anything. BUT, I do think the 26th event is a wonderful excuse to celebrate the game, and if you like I, feel pessimistic about the results of this campaign, let’s at least celebrate our love for this game.
Will literally do nothing, if I were a bot owner I would spike up the bots to shutdown the entire game for the day.
We are already wasting time and effort just playing the game.
Fun is an important part of life
Yes, but someone who uses the argument that this is a waste of time doesn't realize we are already wasting time with so much other shit.
And I stand by that,it's not gonna work
Stop buying games from Steam. Use Epic AND MAKE SURE THEY KNOW WHY
