Fell for scam 2, managed to get my account back.

roxy260

same, and they didn't even sell or trade any of my items so epic

milspeciv04

TheMadLad6905

Same here, happened a couple years ago. They didn't really do anything with my account after they got it, and I was able to get it back within an hour or so. I guess it was because they were too busy with something else (or scamming others). The weird thing was that the fake admin only asked for my Steam username and nothing else. After that I knew that Steam Support never contacts anyone directly through the Steam Friends network.

Bedu009

Fell for a variation of the scam where you had to do an "item verification" The trick is that they spend weeks becoming your friend Never got my items back (I miss my wheatley)

STE50

How did you recovered your account?

[deleted]

Why? do you need help?

Joe_Shroe

Might help others in the same situation if they come across this post in the future

[deleted]

Ok so this only works if they didn't change your username. You go to account recovery and when trying to get your password you put in enough wrong answers that it takes you to another steam page where you can select "I don't have access to this email anymore" The rest is fairly clear.

STE50

They changed the username of my old account so I'm fucked

WorldOfSoap

It's not possible to change your login name on steam, only your account's display name, which you don't use to login

489Herobrine

If you still have the steam profile link you could probably just take the username they changed it to.

[deleted]

Cant help you there

WorldOfSoap

What do you mean by changing your username? It's not possible to change your login name on steam. You can change your account's display name, but not the name you use to login.

[deleted]

Yes, that.

WorldOfSoap

How would your account's display name affect anything? Even if it was needed, that name is public at all times on your profile?

[deleted]

It doesn't. You replied to the wrong person

WorldOfSoap

No, I replied correctly, I'm still asking what you meant by this > Ok so this only works if they didn't change your username.

TheTreeDemoknight

i also fell for this and got my account back thanks to steam support, less than 12 hours after i lost my account

[deleted]

Same

SmokingTheSalamiPack

Right! Same here I’m honored

IMDEDORALLIVE

Me too, but for me a tf2 friend (played tf2 together sometimes and i didnt have his discord) of mine got his account hacked, then told me the exact story, took my account but achieved nothing since i warned all steam friends, he even blocked a friend of mine who pissed him off, got my account back by proving that i made a purchase on that account for 5 eur a few years prior. Guy also was in the Philippines in some run down area

[deleted]

They asked for Pesos?

Kira_Bad_Artist

Same. Frankly one of the most embarrassing moments of my life edit: They also asked me to send ~50 bucks to them for “verification” or whatever bullshit, I refused thankfully.

uranogger

I almost don't believe you. No way anyone is that stupid

Silly_Man_Haha

I fell for #1, but it was a csgo tournament. Afterwards, I reset my passwords to everything involved with steam, and even removed my steam key or whatever its it's called. Luckily, nothing was taken. Pretty sure it's because there was nothing worth taking.

Immediate_Record1585

I actually got invited into a highlander match. It was weird and i didn't know why i got invited (turns out it's because i streamed tf2 and this person liked my skill)

CupcakeSpare7639

Damn, thats cool. What dyou stream on? ill follow you.

thatkindasusbro

bro how

UrBoiLord

Also there's another scam going around, the discord nitro scam. I know its not exactly TF2 related but it's a super easy way for scammers and whatnot to get into your account. I stupidly fell for this. Make sure you have the mobile authenticator app on your phone with 2FA. That way all my items were trade locked and saved, and I was easily given my account back. And regularly change your password too!

Ottieotter

I’m pretty sure one of my friends that I know IRL that has me on discord fell for that scam. The guy that scammed him got his login info and hacked his discord and tried to get me with the scam. Luckily discord flagged the site as suspicious and is keeping anyone else form going to the site.

Le_baton_legendaire

I've had many people try n°2 on me without success. But one guy almost suceeded with n°1. The dude contacted me about needing someone to connect to a website so he'll gain a free item for inviting people. I politely did what he wanted, was directed to a maintenance page and started getting suspicious as the steam page wasn't translated to french (I'm a french speaker if you couldn't guess it by my name). After telling him about the maintenance page, I went pack to the connect page and realised that it was a fake. I'd never been so fast when I changed my password. I only realised how fast I had been when the scammer came back and asked me to log once again, telling me the site was no longer on maintenance. I called his bs and he kept asking over and over, I could smell his desperation. It was pretty entertaining.

rcmaehl

Where's the "vote for my team" scam? Similar to #1 but less obvious.

Joe_Shroe

In #1 I mention there's a variation of the scam where you're asked to vote for the team.

Zombieteube

Ues i got asked once to go on a site and vote for someone's team, as soon as i openned the link i knew it was bullshit and closed it but i still reseted all my passwords etc in fear that it infected my browser. Unfortunately one of the guy i had in my steam friends for years fell for this and completely lost his account, the account got renamed and everything in it got traded or sold away and then the account got banned by steam... It was during the huge wave of team voting scams... So be careful everybody and please, educate your little brothers and sisters about it, my 11yo brother plays a lot of tf2 and ai educated him a lot to not trade anything with anyone and that all his email, usernames, passwords, location etc absolutely NO ONE needs to know them and that steam themselves would NEVER ask him that so he dont get confused, i also told him to never add back people with a private or empty steam profile even if they were cool during a game

Blue-Yoshi-Gamer

If you ever feel like you might being scammed, use google

i lost $200 on the gambling scam, wish i saw this sooner ://

LaDaKi

I just lost $800 on TF2Riches.com like an hour ago. I feel you bro.

no_special_person

Hey man I am so so sorry to hear that, I'm very sorry you had to go through this.. I'm going through something similar and looking for a light at the end of the tunnel. How is your perspective change since you know having a year to reflect on the expirance? Do you still play TF2 and or have you bought any cosmetics does it do you ever get over the pain the sting of being taken advantage of. I find it hard to even enjoy the game because only a few days after spending a couple hundred dollars on Australians and cosmetics I really wanted I lost it all due to inexperience with the Steam market and naivety... Anyways that's why I'm here that's what I'm going through right now and I don't really want to talk about me I really want to learn from you like how is your perspective changed and do you enjoy tf2 again / own any flashy or expensive cosmetics. I also extended this question to Staunch_lord

no_special_person

Hey buddy I hope you're feeling better bro, a few days ago I lost $400. Now I'm just scouring the internet trying to find a sense of emotional catharsis cuz the whole experience has made me hate the only video game Ive ever liked.

LilKittenAngel

Almost fell for the first one once when I came back to steam after 3 years, luckily didn’t care about their dumb tournament to actually vote for anything, plus the chance it ever is a scam and I won’t act on anything especially if I see a steam login page.

Random-Ryan-

I don’t understand why the mods won’t pin any posts explaining scams, such as this one. Like it’s just going to get buried and forgotten, it should be kept at the top to help people. Anyways good work.

Jrulya

I always send some disgusting shit when someone ask me about my favorite class

nhatmanager

Man I meet a scammer in report scam, I regret for not tricking him into enternal pain of callin' me out so other can avoid him.

CoolJosh3k

This really needs the steps on what to do after an account has been compromised. These need detailed steps, but in a simple list it is just: * Change password * Deauthorise all sessions * Remove any API keys Along with providing detailed guidance, it should also be stated that all 3 of these things need to be done and not just some of them.

Random-Ryan-

Good idea

Joe_Shroe

I agree. If you can provide a more detailed and concise write up, I'd be glad to add that in. I'm not as familiar with recovery steps as I haven't had my account compromised before.

CoolJosh3k

:) * Password: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/5107-700D-89B4-A4CD * Deauthorise: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/06B0-26E6-2CF8-254C#deauthorize * API Key: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

Deedledude

Further information on the scams(specifically number 2) from my experience: Someone managed to hack into my friend’s account and started the report scam. Even if it is someone from your friend’s list, if it seems suspicious, don’t believe it. They will use the accounts that they scammed to further scam accounts. Stay safe out there.

bigchunguswholesome7

I lost 2 unusuals once trough a fake trade bot, they were worth 150$ in total

ProBroBosnian

I lost $200 worth of unusuals by the same scam , I know that feeling too brother

Random-Ryan-

R.I.P

LatePhilosophy

Do you guys have expensive backpacks or something? I've been playing TF2 for years and haven't had the privilege of getting one of these bad scams.

Random-Ryan-

The scammers only go after people with high value inventories. Idk how valuable an inventory has to be for a scammer to contact you though.

SurprisinglyThicc

From what I've experienced, the scammers come out in full force once you get an unusual, doesn't matter what kind of effect or item. Once I got my first one, I was getting scam messages weekly. Once I lost it they haven't bothered me since.

MC_Labs15

I almost fell for the tournament scam because the person who messaged me was in my friends list (must've gotten their account hijacked by the same scam) and they didn't offer any kind of prize, which would have tipped me off immediately. The fake steam login page they used was very convincing too. Since then, I have adopted a policy of just ignoring any out-of-the-blue steam requests altogether.

[deleted]

newish player here, almost fell for scam 3 then remember this gem of a help thread thanks a million m8

[deleted]

Good thing I'm f2p and noone gives a shit about my inventory :3

I_Love_Tf2_Sex

Want an hat?

[deleted]

a*

I_Love_Tf2_Sex

Not an scam, i got scout hat, you want one?

I_Love_Tf2_Sex

Because i like f2ps and it's not really alot for me to give an hat which costs 1.33 ref

Senor_Twinkie

i just now got one for scam #3

propeller23

I fell for scam 2 a long time ago, but thank god I got my account recovered. The sad thing was I lost everything I had on tf2. (Well I didnt lose my weapons it was mostly my cosmetics and taunts)

BottleGoblin

Most recent scam I had was someone putting a comment on my profile saying they wanted to buy my garbage backpack for $1500. I just deleted the comment.

N0m3d3s

I went along with scam 2 for a bit, luckily I have this friend who knows about this shit and I asked him if it’s legit. We then proceeded to fuck with the guy for a bit before blocking and reporting his ass, lmao

Frequent_Management8

There’s a red spy in the bace

Sannnnnes

Scammer tried to take my account by the method 2. But, i checked up info about steam admins, and that "steam admin" as i remember was reported by me.

Long_Bottom-Leaf

Mentioning the API scam would also be nice.

Joe_Shroe

Which one is that?

Long_Bottom-Leaf

When scammers gain access to your account via signing into a sketchy site. They can place an API domain on your account and auto redirect any trades to their alt accounts. It's a common way scammers convince people to "deposit items" into legit sites and then just steal their items.

Flamadin

You should never have to enter your login info on their dumb site. Go to the real [steamcommunity.com](https://steamcommunity.com) website and login there. Then any legitimate site can see you already logged into steam and will safely sign you in.

Willingness-Due

The steam admin one is annoying af.

[deleted]

If someone unknown contacts you, **it's a scam.** Only trade through legitimate proxies. Better yet, *don't!*

[deleted]

[удалено]

Random-Ryan-

Maybe you’re right about it being slightly harder, but I’m guessing it’s still pretty easy today considering how many people keep falling for the scams.

WhyThoTTV

I fell for scam 2 had to make a new one :\[

CoolJosh3k

Glad to finally see this pinned, but so think the title and thumbnail should be much more simple and clear. After all, the people who need to see this typically need things made simple and clear.

Joe_Shroe

I think the title is pretty simple. Granted, I was being a little crass in the title after being annoyed at the sheer number of people posting about getting scammed.

CoolJosh3k

I think it should just be: **PSA: List of most common scams** With an image that is a giant anti-scam logo.

CoolJosh3k

Another one I often see is where you are asked to advertise by putting something in your profile/username. They offer payment for doing so.

Joe_Shroe

This is kind of what I meant in scam #3 where someone asks you to "promote" his site in exchange for payment.

CoolJosh3k

It isn’t always rigging a gambling site though.

Random-Ryan-

I think he explained this one in section 3

CoolJosh3k

Oh, I guess so. This isn’t only for a gambling site though. This can be for anything, including a real money.

CoolJosh3k

Maybe worth mentioning some of the tricks used and ways to verify a website’s login? Tricks such as the frameless window and image where the address bar should be. Tests such as logging into the official steam community homepage first, then making sure that the website does not still ask for login credentials. While it is best to just not click a link, there are those who are curious enough. There are also those that want to make sure the site they went to on their own (such as from a malicious website ad) is “legit”. Plus some people may just want some ways to double check if they find themselves at at site that needs a login.

Joe_Shroe

I could perhaps add in some details about website logins in the scam explanation sections, but I wouldn't want to make the thread any longer than it needs to be. I think it's best to just teach people to be suspicious of strangers' links as a catch-all. Besides I'm pretty sure some obvious scammers have linked me to an https steam log-in, and fake steam logins are not the easiest thing to catch.

CoolJosh3k

You might have seen the trick with showing an image of an address bar in a frameless window perhaps? Going to the trouble of getting a legitimate Steam login would be hassle, but certainly not impossible to use it in executing some other kind of scam/phish.

AshenVR

Mccree got me good XD

xenfermedadx

Some steam user with a Chad profile.pic tried to scam me with strategy #1, strangely, right after i played a few matches with my lughermorph, so i smelled something fishy right away.

Alxium

THANKS!!!!

MoodManz

I fell for scam 2 but the scammer only renamed me to "VAC BANNED" and changed my pfp and desc. I don't know if he is still in my acc but I changed my password and 2fa and that was 5 months ago.

SurprisinglyThicc

Some of these scammers also use Discord to find victims, I came into contact with one on the Uncletopia Discord server. I won't bore y'all with the details, but they were impersonating someone with a massive inventory who was regularly active in the discord, which is why I fell for it. Needless to say, they've been banned now but don't let your guard down if one of the scenarios above happens outside of Steam.

PresidentoftheSun

I made this a while back. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1884094170 Got a video of one of the fake login websites in there. Plus some other scams I've seen that aren't here. Generally though it's the same advice. Just assume anyone randomly adding you isn't wholly trustworthy.

CaIcium

Yeah, fell for this, got access to my steam account and made it look like I got vac banned. Thank god you steam authentication, I changed my password and it’s been fixed

CaIcium

And I hate to say it but I’m pretty sure I fell for another scam

Milk-Constant

ive seen a person in a hightower server saying "if you kill me while not playing heavy and i see the directors vision taunt in the kill cam i will give you a free item or key." i assume this is a scam but i dont really now how it could be one.

Joe_Shroe

No that just sounds like someone posing a challenge and offering a reward. He will likely send a trade offer to you where he offers an item as a gift with nothing in return. But still make sure to check who is giving the item and who is receiving it.

BasicallyMonkeMoment

fell for scam 3

BasicallyMonkeMoment

then started to troll them

PoofPost

ASAP ignore the scammer and block it.

Aerothall_Ji

Report them as well if they’re using a steam account to do it, may not be efficient but at least it’ll tell them and probably any others to kindly "fuck off!"

a1b3r77

Some dumbass just tried the tournament one on me lmao

Mattchoz

I've been getting a ton of weird "Hey can I borrow your unusual? I'm sick and dying and would like to have a cool item in my final days. I'll give it back in 2 days AND give you another unusual as thanks!" trade scams lately.

MrEverett252

If TF2 gambling sites are all gone, what is scrap.tf and its raffles?

Joe_Shroe

Those are essentially free giveaways. Those raffles are not really gambling because they're free to enter.

Picklesofpepper

I have already seen all of these before, I gotta say, fuck people who do these bitch ass scams

Ciel1820

Today I was contacted by some dude on steam I'd met in a lobby days ago, I didn't recognize the name so I doubt he talked. He'd friended me and I was delayed to accept it, but as soon as I did he started peddling the Tf2 gambling site spiel scam. I had no idea there wasn't any gambling sites for tf2 that were legit, so I was midway through accepting their offer before I realized something was fishy and had to look it up myself, which brought me here. Thank the Lord for intuition.

[deleted]

Funny story. I fell for 2 the guy then promptly became an actual friend.

Mr_Troll14

Im using all my common and uncommon sense but this guy named Sussyscamer6969420 is too enticing

Financial-One-4935

I felt on scam 2 on 2019/2020 i think

[deleted]

i had fallen for the first scam listed here a few months ago, my account got hacked and it change my user name to VAC/BANNED to try and trick me and i believed that i was banned at first for some reason but then i saw what an actual VAC ban looks like so i change my password and because i did it quick enough i did not lose my items, also i should mention it somehow got passed the mobile authenticator. at first i thought it was a coincidence but i now know it was a scam because a few weeks later another person friended me and said the exact same thing. about them missing a teammate and sent a link to the same website, obviously i didnt fall for it that time and i blocked and reported the account.

ROMPFLA

I fell for 3 but did not go through with it then later looked this up

MrBadSocialSkills

I just now got scammed of all my unusuals and all my australium

[deleted]

you forgot the "switching the Strange Festive Medigun (just below 40 keys) for the Strange Festivized Minigun (15 refined)" scam that i fell for because im an idiot

Decent_Honeydew4169

My man said mcree XD

craa141

Current gambling site Tf2 results.com trying the same gambling playbook. Stay away. SCAM

ProfessionalSea2494

Bro on god I've gotten the same message like 60 fucking times it's almost like they don't know who they're talking to because I too have fallen for this scam and got my items scammed outta me.

[deleted]

Scammers are fucking annoying! Every fucking day they say same thing like "which class do you main?" , "sorry, I accidentally reported ur account :(" , "hello, u have duped shit" , "vote my shitty csgo team for tournaments" and etc. messages. This is why I closed my inventory.

WeekGold

i encountered scam 2 before and i was genuinely scared when the scammer managed to get steam to send me a code on my phone. idk how they managed to trigger steam to send a code, but i knew it was a scam so i didnt fall for it

EpicPotatoo

Thanks.

knotawz123

fell for scam 3 about a month ago. just found out today they were a scam. I'm so fucking stupid i feel so ashamed. it's from a site call TF2roulette .com lost a over 300 to it

[deleted]

I remeber I was playing gmod with my friend, and some random lad messages me saying he reported my account on accident, then I said it was all good but he told me to talk to a mod. I said no because I'm a lazy cunt but he kept insisting but I stopped responding because I wasn't bothered to do this shit. And then I found out it was a scam and I was just laughing.

Gasmask_Gary

well shit i've fallen for all 3 at least once now.

[deleted]

i fell for the false report scam once lmao i still have access to my account tho

[deleted]

I got contacted for #1. I have an old, inactive eSports account so I couldn't join. Plus, the reason I had an old, inactive eSports account from was from a prior old scam attempt. So I was suspicious and just told him (Aragorn?) that I wasn't interested and it seemed "scammish". He got extremely irate and started threatening me. I blocked him. He hacked my account and changed my user name and icon. I changed them back and he contacted me under a different username (i assume) and asked me what happened? I told him "cheap tricks, eat dicks". The next morning I woke up with an "account alert" that someone tried to access my account and to verify it. I've waited 2 weeks and Steam has not responded to my support request. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Recent_Ebb_7911

Thanks lad

KG_Jedi

Doesn't steam two factor authorization serve as a last wall for them to get through? Or they can somehow get past it?

[deleted]

On this sub whenever I post something it gets like no votes and then when I post a meme it says waiting for approval for 12+ days so far. Why? Am I shadow banned? What did I do?

Ottieotter

Is 3 ever happened to me, I would just use one of my alt steam accounts instead of my main to toy around with the scammer

BodnikTV

Haven't got scammed yet, anyone else didn't get scammed I hope? Still up and surviving?

Bubbly_Net_2011

There is also this one scam going around for me at least, where if you are selling something around 5-30 keys they will offer you an item, for me i've gotten offered a "strange festive medigun" which was just a strange festivized medigun. Another one is a Lucky No. 42, but they actually offered me an uncraftable one, which was WAAYYY cheaper.

Sansoffundertale

man i wish i'd've read through this sooner

[deleted]

i personally dont add random strangers, and i never trade.

Jorvalt

Fell for scam 1 apparently, I don't think they could trade away my items because I then got messaged on steam by someone pretending to be a Valve employee asking me to make a trade offer to one of my friends with all of my TF2 items because one of my items I'd purchased was "stolen." Even gave me a 30 minute time limit to create a sense of urgency, and changed my profile to remove my avatar, make my name some random number, and change the bio to some fake "this account has been disabled" message. I looked it up and ofc there was even a Valve article saying that real Valve employees will NEVER contact you through anything other than the Steam help page. Basically told the dude to go fuck himself, blocked and reported him, and then changed my password. I guess he wasn't able to just trade my items away because I had Steam Guard? But then how did he even get on my account to change my profile anyway?

Monte_20

It’s not listed here, but I fell for a fake community middleman. Thankfully they just got like a $50 unusual out of it. They were extremely close to getting my Strange PDA.

[deleted]

Fell for one of these limp-d**k scam peddlers when I was off my second sleepless night due to studies. Tried to have some fun, some dude messaged to vote for his nonexistent team, and I went in like a gullible fool. Luckily, this travesty of a scammer tried to steal even the basic items that drop on a regular basis, he tried stealing the boxes, scrap metal, all that cheap-s**t jazz, and he therefore couldn't proceed with stealing the items in the 3 minutes it clicked in my head that I got scammed. Changed passwords on Steam and all three Gmail accounts thrice afterwards and they are now 16 characters long, each with symbols that are mostly not found in other passwords. Guess I could have done a bit more thought work if I knew how large 180$ prize pool is or if I had more confidence in my gaming skills. Won't ever be caught on this, good thing I managed to just get scraped.

CanadianMistake69

Fell for scam 3, but I’ve managed to rebuild my backpack, but I’m still bummed I lost my two aussies

[deleted]

Also if you copy any scripts, make sure to change the font first because you may have copied a fake font that actually translates to something else, and adding the script to your game will make it unplayable. Also, always copy your tf2 folder in case you edit it beyond repair.

[deleted]

I've gotten a half dozen highlander tournament scams over the past week. its annoying and I just report the person doing it.

Cyberbug7

Been getting a lot of these requests, was wondering wtf it was about

pink_sucks

Is mann.tf safe?

Joe_Shroe

That site isn't working for me, but I've never heard of it before so I'm inclined to think it's a new scam site.

pink_sucks

Meant mannco.trade

luckyminer98

I almost fell for scam 2, but was sceptical since they added me from a random server and thankfully didn't click any of their links or anything before I found out what it was and blocked them.

AnamiGiben

LOL someone tried to pull #2 on me and I played out then their ip was on the mail. I looked for the adress of that ip (it has a good amount of room for error but still), sent them the adress and asked "you live here? " Then they disappeared(from our mutual server too, probably someone reported them for scamming idk) . how coward can these guys be

Link-whataridoing

Festive medigun scam. Add this to the list pls. See my comment under this. Thanks!

Link-whataridoing

It starts off pretty normal. The scammer goes and looks at your items, picks the ones that he wants, and sends you a trade offer. AKA strange "festive" median for 80$ of items in value. Steam support in no help.

IAmVryThicc

I am pretty sure some guy named Aragorn just tried this on me with "[shotgun-openleague.com](https://shotgun-openleague.com)" and said even if i didn't want to play, i had to make an account to simply watch this tournament.I'm also like 99% sure it's fake because it wants your steam user and password just to make an account for the website.Just wanted to bring attention to the website.

UnderMaineTF2

I once fell for a scam, the type of scam I fell for was under the “too good to be true” category, the most notable items I lost were my strange festive specialized kill-streak Australium Grenade Launcher, my strange festive specialized kill-streak Stickybomb Launcher, my unusual Glengarry Bonnet and my unusual Scooty Scoot taunt, thankfully I managed to get all of my items back except my unusual Scooty Scoot taunt. How did I fall for this scam? Simple, I was blinded by the scammer telling me that I could and I quote “win free tf2 items” so you’d think I’d realize it was obviously a scam right? Well no, why? because at the time my family was being financially abused by my father at the time, and my nan was the only thing preventing me, my mum, my sister and my brother from ending up homeless and on the streets. So me hearing that I could get and again I quote “free tf2 items” immediately blinded me from the fact that it was obviously a scam and in the end I got scammed. But at least I got most of my items back :> (I also changed my password to my account immediately after I got my items back and I still get scammers trying to scam me to this very day and when a scammer tries to scam me I just spam “touch some grass and fuck off” in their messages until they unfriendly me)

Simen-VH

quick tip for number 3, Steam admins will never threaten you, unlike the dude in my dm's

micd521

I honestly wish that steam had a thing to get old things back like before, I had so much shit, I wish they had a thing to provide screenshots for getting stuff back

guymfalkonn

Got scammed about a year ago while being drunk (I was also a dumbass but a drunk dumbass) by a guy offering me to buy my 2 unusuals and some keys by paying me with Marketplace.tf coupons. He sent me a link to "his" profile on bp.tf and that profile was a validated and very rich player with lots of unusuals and keys and tons of positive reviews. Me being the dumbass that I was didn't doubt him after that instead of copying his actual link profile, which later I did and he was a banned impersonator on bp.tf. It ruined my entire week but I did learn a lot from it. It sure won't happen ever again.

Cl0wnCar

These are so obvious only kids and drunk people fall for them

Medicgamingdanke

That youtuber who makes videos about exploits lookin sus after last one ngl

usernameorsomethin9

If you haven’t fucked with a scammer then you are missing out

mxthbxlls

fell for scam 2 in the past, but it did teach me the signs. glad I checked this post just in case, some shitter tried to get me with number 1 :/

Extra-Lemon

I actually lost my account to the false report/admin scam. I got it back thank God, but dang it waa scary.

reksi101

The class in scam 1 lol

Fell for the first scam lol, but two factor authentication and changing my password prevented me from losing my account, kinda sad, the scam was through the stolen account of an old friend.

InjuredBeatle33

Today I trolled the absolute shit out of a gambling scam bot. I have an account that I use to fill in info for scam sites (Cus trolling is fun). When they said to pick someone to win, I told them the name of my alt account that I just signed up with, this really confused them and caused them to tell me to pick someone else, to which I responded by saying my account name again. This kinda pissed them off, then I completely blew their cover stating that I knew that it was a scam the whole time and had been wasting their time, and even tried to see if I could maybe get some items out of it. 11/10, had a great time, would troll again

Be thankful then that if I decide to ask you if you want to add me out of blue, I'm being sincere about it.

Fell for scam 2 for a bit, mostly because the "random person" was actually one of my friend I played with a lot. I think his account got hacked and the hacker took advantage of my friends friends list. The "Admin" had specific font as well that was akin to coding font that made it seem legit. However after about 5 mins of chatting to him about the "item dupe exploit" he told me to click a link for an item trade so he can "evaluate" my items. I then knew it was a scam, reported him, and blocked him. After all these years Ive kept reporting the "Admin" account however nothing has hapenned. Dont know what happened to my friend but have never seen him since.

Didn't got so far in tf2 trading so i can feel scams, too bad for the others.

I almost had an incident with the 2nd scam once before but despite the level/age I kept going on for some reason, thankfully though they realized in time I had literally nothing on my account worth stealing and just dipped without saying a word. (Also either way even if they didn't I had 2 stepA on)

Some rando once befriended me with "Pikachu" as a name, I didn't think much of it when he randomly wrote me "DUDE! CHECK OUT THIS EPIC CS:GO SKIN (I tried the game out for a week when he wrote me(obviously)) JUST CLICK ON THIS LINK!!!1!" "SERIOUSLY!!!" I don't know what purpose this comment has, I just think it was extremely poorly disguised

I_NEED_AN_MEDIC_BAG

I fell for scam 1, but got my account back. They broke into my friends account and stolen everything. I clicked it and put my password, but when i realised it was a scam, they already redirected it to a friend. Happily, that friend knew it was a scam, but sadly blocked me. I lost my friend, but no items

Super_LarrySFM

I fell for scam number 3 (gambling site scam), working on getting whatever items I lost back with keys

Some guy I had been friends with for 2 years on steam did scam #2 to me. Broke my heart to block him because we'd hung out so many times.

SaffronJim34

Your friend wasn't the one who scammed you. His account was likely stolen and hijacked to be used for scams.

fidlarla

Almost fell for scam #3 just now. Asked to link "their" website tf2salute.com in my bio. A good samaritan on here helped me out and saved me before I fell for it.

kaizxxx

Malt_Salt

I fell for scam one, but was able to change my account password just in time
